[0:00:43 – 0:00:45] Adam: Save that for the post party.
[0:00:45 – 0:00:46] SPEAKER_00: We’ll go chill them.
[0:00:46 – 0:00:49] Adam: Yeah, we gotta chill those buttery nipples.
[0:00:49 – 0:00:51] SPEAKER_00: Put those on ice.
[0:01:26 – 0:01:34] Erik: The Boundary Waters Podcast.

[0:01:42 – 0:01:50] Adam: Francois Lecastre sitting here live in Studio K. This episode is brought to you by Jolly Jolly.
[0:01:50 – 0:01:51] Erik: Brought to you by Jolly Jolly.
[0:01:51 – 0:01:51] Erik: Ooh.
[0:01:53 – 0:02:01] Erik: Yeah, a thing that I did not know existed, and I’m not 100% sure if I’m happy that it does exist.
[0:02:01 – 0:02:02] Adam: I’m not sure it does exist.
[0:02:02 – 0:02:06] Adam: It may have been a figment of our imagination.
[0:02:07 – 0:02:09] Erik: It may very well be.
[0:02:10 – 0:02:18] Erik: Yeah, this is Holy Moly Hot Diggity Dog Episode 1-0-0.
[0:02:18 – 0:02:20] Erik: Holy Moly Hot Dog.
[0:02:21 – 0:02:21] Erik: Do you remember?
[0:02:22 – 0:02:36] Erik: Just a little over two years ago when I came in all alone and squeaky-nosed saying 001 and the reason… You sounded like a frog in a tin can.
[0:02:36 – 0:02:36] Erik: Yeah.
[0:02:37 – 0:02:43] Erik: Alone by myself in cabin seven talking about how I put that extra zero on there because we were going for 1,000.
[0:02:44 – 0:02:47] Erik: And it’s been two years and we’re at 100.
[0:02:47 – 0:02:47] Erik: Yeah.
[0:02:49 – 0:02:53] SPEAKER_00: pew pew pew pew pew pew pew pew but
[0:02:54 – 0:02:57] Adam: I’ve had a little extra pep in my step all day just thinking about this.
[0:02:58 – 0:02:59] Erik: Yeah, it’s one of those things.
[0:02:59 – 0:03:00] Erik: It’s pretty cool.
[0:03:02 – 0:03:08] Erik: We are sponsored this week and for the last year and however many weeks that has been.
[0:03:08 – 0:03:12] Erik: I don’t know how many weeks or any year, but… A couple hundred at least.
[0:03:12 – 0:03:12] Erik: A couple hundred weeks.
[0:03:12 – 0:03:17] Erik: We have been sponsored by our fine, fine, fine friends on Patreon.
[0:03:18 – 0:03:22] Erik: Look forward to next week for an update.
[0:03:22 – 0:03:25] Erik: on what Patreon is going to look like and what we hope to do with it.
[0:03:27 – 0:03:36] Erik: Also this week sponsored by previous contributor in many ways, the Ron Schera calendar.
[0:03:38 – 0:03:38] SPEAKER_00: Speaking of.
[0:03:38 – 0:03:39] Erik: Speaking of.
[0:03:39 – 0:03:41] Erik: Where is that Ron Schera calendar?
[0:03:41 – 0:03:42] Adam: Back here under the art supplies.
[0:03:44 – 0:03:44] UNKNOWN: Matt.
[0:03:44 – 0:03:45] Erik: Matt.
[0:03:46 – 0:03:53] Erik: has sent us another very, very nice letter congratulating us on 100.
[0:03:54 – 0:03:59] Erik: And he does not trust the USPS.
[0:04:01 – 0:04:06] Erik: So he’s just straight up sent us cash to buy a bottle of Glenlivet.
[0:04:07 – 0:04:10] Erik: And that is not what we are sponsored by this show because…
[0:04:11 – 0:04:36] Erik: we haven’t uh we’re planning on taking it out with us transferring it from the glass to the plastic and coming out on the water with us next week when we are in the field where it will be much more appreciated is that even legal is it better to put it into like a uh hydro flask like probably something metal yeah a metal bottle yeah that you shouldn’t put that in the plastic but i don’t know if it really matters
[0:04:37 – 0:04:42] Adam: If you’re going to enjoy it in the next day or two, I’m not sure it matters, but maybe it does.
[0:04:42 – 0:04:45] Adam: Probably the Glenn Leavitt fans are out there.
[0:04:45 – 0:04:46] Erik: Turning their noses up.
[0:04:46 – 0:04:46] Adam: They are.
[0:04:46 – 0:04:50] Adam: He’s befouling it.
[0:04:51 – 0:04:51] Adam: Yeah.
[0:04:51 – 0:04:52] Adam: We’re excited.
[0:04:52 – 0:04:53] Erik: That’s happening.
[0:04:55 – 0:04:58] Adam: Cash is my favorite form of poetry, as we all know.
[0:04:59 – 0:04:59] Erik: It doesn’t have to rhyme.
[0:05:00 – 0:05:01] Erik: It just has to stink and be green.
[0:05:01 – 0:05:02] Adam: It doesn’t have to be cash.
[0:05:03 – 0:05:07] Adam: The Ron Shera’s outdoor calendar fact of the day.
[0:05:08 – 0:05:10] Adam: Today is the 22nd of May.
[0:05:11 – 0:05:14] Adam: My favorite day every year month is the 22nd.
[0:05:14 – 0:05:17] Adam: It is the new moon today, Eric.
[0:05:17 – 0:05:17] Adam: Did you know that?
[0:05:18 – 0:05:19] Adam: I was not aware.
[0:05:19 – 0:05:22] Adam: That’s why everybody’s behaving so strangely today.
[0:05:22 – 0:05:25] Adam: It was the full moon that caused that.
[0:05:25 – 0:05:29] Adam: I hate to report this, but there is no fact of the day today.
[0:05:29 – 0:05:30] Erik: Just the new moon.
[0:05:31 – 0:05:31] Adam: It’s the new moon.
[0:05:31 – 0:05:33] Adam: That’s a fact in its own right.
[0:05:33 – 0:05:39] Adam: So sunset tonight is at 8.44 p.m. And, yeah, that’s your fact of the day.
[0:05:39 – 0:05:41] Adam: Tomorrow is Bass Opener, though.
[0:05:41 – 0:05:42] Erik: Keep your eyes peeled for that.
[0:05:43 – 0:05:44] Erik: For the majority of the state.
[0:05:44 – 0:05:45] Erik: It’s been open up here since Opener.
[0:05:46 – 0:05:46] Adam: Right.
[0:05:46 – 0:05:48] Erik: Because we are north and east of Highway 53.
[0:05:49 – 0:05:52] Erik: That’s some hot information coming to you.
[0:05:52 – 0:05:53] Adam: Fish, bass all year round up here.
[0:05:54 – 0:05:54] Adam: Yes.
[0:05:55 – 0:05:55] Erik: Do whatever you want.
[0:05:56 – 0:06:00] Erik: We are also sponsored by Mystery Drop-Off.
[0:06:00 – 0:06:16] Erik: So if you’re following along at home, you know that Clearwater has, you know, we’ve kind of implemented some things to still do business as safely as possible during these trying times.
[0:06:17 – 0:06:21] Erik: I feel like that could be a drinking game these days during fill-in-the-blank times.
[0:06:21 – 0:06:23] Adam: Yeah.
[0:06:23 – 0:06:25] Adam: So we’re just doing business here.
[0:06:25 – 0:06:27] Adam: My favorite is that these are strange times.
[0:06:27 – 0:06:29] Erik: Strange times, my man.
[0:06:30 – 0:06:30] Adam: Yeah.
[0:06:31 – 0:06:31] Adam: Troubled.
[0:06:32 – 0:06:33] Adam: These are some troubling times.
[0:06:33 – 0:06:35] Erik: I just like calling it the troubles.
[0:06:36 – 0:06:37] Erik: Remember the troubles?
[0:06:37 – 0:06:37] Erik: Yeah.
[0:06:38 – 0:06:43] Erik: So anyway, we’re doing business at Clearwater through the window next to the front door on the lodge.
[0:06:43 – 0:06:45] Adam: Eric’s got a George Foreman grill rigged up.
[0:06:45 – 0:06:49] Adam: He’s selling hot biters and corndogs out the window.
[0:06:50 – 0:06:53] Erik: Yeah, it’s set up to… How many biters do you want?
[0:06:53 – 0:06:53] Adam: One?
[0:06:54 – 0:06:54] Adam: Ten?
[0:06:54 – 0:06:55] Erik: I’m in my element now.
[0:06:55 – 0:06:56] Erik: I just got a recliner.
[0:06:56 – 0:07:01] Erik: I got a lazy boy there, and I’m just tending to a George Foreman with grilled cheeses.
[0:07:02 – 0:07:03] Adam: Here’s a cabin key and a corndog.
[0:07:04 – 0:07:04] Adam: Stay out of trouble.
[0:07:05 – 0:07:05] Erik: Yep.
[0:07:05 – 0:07:06] Erik: Stay out of trouble.
[0:07:08 – 0:07:16] Erik: And no, the day we opened on the 18th with the window service only, we were away for a moment.
[0:07:17 – 0:07:24] Erik: And literally within the first four hours that Clearwater was open, a mystery bag of beer appeared.
[0:07:25 – 0:07:25] Erik: Ah.
[0:07:26 – 0:07:43] Erik: And I apologize to whoever this is from because I’m sure it’s out there in the ether of conversations, whether that’s on email, Facebook, probably not Instagram because then you would know.
[0:07:43 – 0:07:50] Erik: But I have a feeling that this did come to me in a message somewhere, but it’s so hard to keep track on top of everything else.
[0:07:50 – 0:07:58] Adam: I would bet at least three sets of jacks and one wooden horse that it was from George.
[0:08:00 – 0:08:00] Erik: Our good friend, George.
[0:08:00 – 0:08:02] Erik: Oh, our four-year sponsor.
[0:08:02 – 0:08:03] Erik: Thanks, George.
[0:08:03 – 0:08:08] Erik: No, it just was a paper bag, a big paper bag from Woodman’s.
[0:08:09 – 0:08:10] Erik: A couple of Wisconsin boys, I’m sure.
[0:08:11 – 0:08:17] Erik: But just dropped off, and all it said was Eric and Adam for Tumble Home, which is perfectly appropriate.
[0:08:17 – 0:08:18] Adam: Oh, man, I miss Woodman’s.
[0:08:18 – 0:08:22] Adam: They have the greatest selection of string cheese you’ve ever seen in your whole life.
[0:08:23 – 0:08:24] Adam: Smoked, unsmoked.
[0:08:25 – 0:08:26] Adam: Super salty.
[0:08:26 – 0:08:26] Adam: Super salty.
[0:08:26 – 0:08:31] Adam: Straight string cheese, kind of twisted, like weird string cheeses.
[0:08:31 – 0:08:31] Erik: Yeah?
[0:08:32 – 0:08:32] Adam: Mm-hmm.
[0:08:32 – 0:08:33] Erik: All right.
[0:08:35 – 0:08:37] Adam: Can we just be sponsored by Woodman’s now, too?
[0:08:37 – 0:08:41] Adam: Because their liquor store is bigger than all the grocery stores in Grand Marais put together.
[0:08:42 – 0:08:42] Erik: This is true.
[0:08:43 – 0:08:47] Erik: Well, I’ll let you broach that topic with the Woodman’s board of directors.
[0:08:47 – 0:08:49] Adam: I’ll have to make sure it’s okay with George.
[0:08:49 – 0:08:50] Erik: Yeah.
[0:08:50 – 0:09:04] Erik: So it wasn’t necessarily meant to be a mystery, but I think it’s kind of fitting that it’s episode 100 and it is mystery beers being dropped off at Clearwater because we are going to crack these.
[0:09:04 – 0:09:08] Erik: And then this episode is devoted to you.
[0:09:09 – 0:09:13] Erik: We’re going to be reading your responses to where you’re heading.
[0:09:14 – 0:09:16] Erik: What are your thoughts on the 2020 season?
[0:09:17 – 0:09:21] Erik: And that is who this show is dedicated to you.
[0:09:21 – 0:09:26] Erik: Whether you are a Patreon participant, supporter at the highest level, at the lowest level.
[0:09:27 – 0:09:32] Erik: Whether this show just brings you joy and you take the time to…
[0:09:33 – 0:09:40] Erik: Literally phone Clearwater to just say thank you for producing and putting out the content that you do with Tumble Home.
[0:09:40 – 0:09:43] Erik: Whether you’ve never been in touch with us, and the show still brings you joy.
[0:09:45 – 0:09:53] Erik: No matter who you are, if you’re a new subscriber to our episode 100, we’ve got a subreddit now, our Tumble Home cast, if you’re on there.
[0:09:54 – 0:09:59] Erik: This show is for the people, by the people, and this episode is for you.
[0:10:00 – 0:10:07] Erik: uh we love you thank you for being there we’re looking forward to another hundred at least do you have anything else
[0:10:09 – 0:10:10] Adam: I’m still shocked that anybody listens to this show.
[0:10:11 – 0:10:12] Adam: Very humbled.
[0:10:13 – 0:10:13] UNKNOWN: Yeah.
[0:10:14 – 0:10:15] Adam: I still can’t believe it.
[0:10:15 – 0:10:21] Adam: I honestly think even halfway through, I still thought maybe this was a hoax that you were just like with the numbers you were telling me of people listening.
[0:10:21 – 0:10:22] Adam: I was like, there’s no way.
[0:10:22 – 0:10:23] Adam: The long con.
[0:10:23 – 0:10:25] Erik: Got him.
[0:10:25 – 0:10:25] Adam: Yeah.
[0:10:26 – 0:10:27] Adam: And I’m not sure about that.
[0:10:27 – 0:10:29] Adam: I mean, but no, it’s great.
[0:10:29 – 0:10:30] Adam: And.
[0:10:30 – 0:10:40] Adam: You know, it’s unbelievable to me that we’re now 100 episodes at least in, plus all the other mini ones.
[0:10:40 – 0:10:40] Erik: Yeah.
[0:10:41 – 0:10:45] Adam: Man, do you remember what the beer sponsor was for episode 001?
[0:10:46 – 0:10:50] Erik: Well, no, we weren’t sponsored until like five or six, and I think it was just PBR.
[0:10:50 – 0:10:52] Erik: And it was super, it was just like pretty jokey.
[0:10:52 – 0:10:53] Erik: It was one of our earliest jokes.
[0:10:54 – 0:10:57] Erik: I also do think Minnesota Gold was one of the first couple too.
[0:10:58 – 0:11:01] Adam: Can you just auto-tune me into episode one?
[0:11:02 – 0:11:03] Adam: It’s weird.
[0:11:04 – 0:11:07] Adam: Although there are other episodes where we’re not in.
[0:11:07 – 0:11:08] Erik: It’s the dynamic.
[0:11:08 – 0:11:09] Adam: There’s a few randoms.
[0:11:09 – 0:11:10] Erik: Yeah.
[0:11:10 – 0:11:17] Erik: So we’re focusing on responses from the listeners because at the end of the day, we wouldn’t be at 100 without you.
[0:11:18 – 0:11:23] Erik: You provide us with so much interaction and content, and we appreciate…
[0:11:23 – 0:11:34] Erik: Um, every bit of it and, um, you know, every email that I get on tumblehomecast at gmail.com, um, is greatly appreciated and I love responding to them.
[0:11:36 – 0:11:45] Erik: And every time somebody says something along the lines of like, you’re still, you know, eliciting like an awe and respect for the wilderness.
[0:11:45 – 0:11:48] Erik: Cause I know we’ve gotten super comfortable in front of the mics these days, um,
[0:11:49 – 0:11:53] Erik: So sometimes we kind of let our true opinions on things come out.
[0:11:53 – 0:12:02] Erik: And if it ever comes to the point where I don’t feel like we’re doing it for the park for all of the best reasons involved, yes, we like to have fun.
[0:12:02 – 0:12:13] Erik: But if the love that we have for the park is no longer shared with the listeners, that’s probably when it’ll make itself apparent that it’s something to stop.
[0:12:13 – 0:12:18] Erik: And I feel like we’re still ââ¬â that connection is still there and it’s because of you.
[0:12:19 – 0:12:25] Erik: So without further ado, let’s get to these sponsors and let’s see where y’all are heading this open water season.
[0:12:27 – 0:12:35] Adam: Yeah, you know, the overnight permits have only been in effect for just a little bit, but it seems like a lot of permits are being sold.
[0:12:35 – 0:12:37] Adam: So it’s good to see people getting back out there.
[0:12:38 – 0:12:38] Adam: Yes.
[0:12:38 – 0:12:39] Adam: What do we have here today?
[0:12:39 – 0:12:41] Erik: Well, yes.
[0:12:41 – 0:12:41] Erik: Yeah.
[0:12:42 – 0:12:43] Erik: This is very nice.
[0:12:43 – 0:12:44] Erik: These have been…
[0:12:47 – 0:12:50] Adam: I see they may have been doctored a little.
[0:12:50 – 0:12:52] Erik: These are a little counterfeited, I think.
[0:12:52 – 0:12:53] Adam: I don’t know.
[0:12:53 – 0:12:57] Adam: These art supplies are suspect, but they look very interesting.
[0:12:57 – 0:12:59] Erik: Yeah, what are we drinking here?
[0:13:00 – 0:13:03] Adam: Looks like we got a Coglins Brewery submission.
[0:13:04 – 0:13:06] Adam: I didn’t even know Coglins was in the brewery game.
[0:13:07 – 0:13:09] Adam: This is exciting and new information to us.
[0:13:10 – 0:13:11] Adam: This is a Coglins submission.
[0:13:12 – 0:13:36] Adam: brewery epic day double india pale ale beers for any adventure and uh it actually appears to be in a pretty solid can none of it has actually leaked out it appears all the beer is still in there so they’ve done pretty good there well let’s see if the mechanism on the top works over just breaks off they both opened too so opened you know the stars are aligning eric cheers adam cheers my good man
[0:13:42 – 0:13:44] Adam: There are eggshells in there, though.
[0:13:44 – 0:13:48] Adam: There are several eggshells in there, but it’s pretty good otherwise.
[0:13:50 – 0:13:53] Erik: Well, we should truly shout out, it is from Eddie Line Brewing.
[0:13:53 – 0:13:55] Adam: And I was joking about the eggshells.
[0:13:55 – 0:13:58] Adam: If anybody was confused on that point.
[0:13:58 – 0:14:06] Erik: The mystery drop-off folks did take the time to cut out a Coghlan’s logo and tape it over the brewery.
[0:14:06 – 0:14:09] Adam: This is one of the better things I’ve seen all month.
[0:14:09 – 0:14:13] Erik: Season, well, yeah, we’re not doing seasons anymore, really.
[0:14:13 – 0:14:14] Adam: Seasons are so corporate.
[0:14:14 – 0:14:16] Adam: We’re year-round now.
[0:14:16 – 0:14:17] Erik: Yeah, we’re year-round.
[0:14:17 – 0:14:20] Erik: Going forward, let’s see your best beer.
[0:14:20 – 0:14:22] Erik: Yeah, doctor those art supplies up.
[0:14:22 – 0:14:24] Erik: Doctor those beer logos up.
[0:14:25 – 0:14:25] Adam: Very good.
[0:14:25 – 0:14:26] Adam: Well struck.
[0:14:26 – 0:14:27] Adam: Well struck.
[0:14:27 – 0:14:28] Adam: Thank you for that.
[0:14:28 – 0:14:30] Erik: We’ll get to the bottom of it.
[0:14:30 – 0:14:33] Erik: Like I said, I know that there’s a message out there somewhere.
[0:14:33 – 0:14:33] Erik: It’s just…
[0:14:35 – 0:14:38] Erik: I get a lot of messages for a lot of different reasons.
[0:14:38 – 0:14:50] Adam: You know, I never thought I would be on Instagram, let alone… We have a ton of people following the account, and we’re following a ton of accounts.
[0:14:50 – 0:14:51] Adam: Instagram’s a lot of fun.
[0:14:52 – 0:14:55] Erik: It can be fun if you’re not using it for just like, hey, look at this…
[0:14:56 – 0:15:01] Adam: I like to be super weird on the Instagram, just odd stuff and stupid panoramas.
[0:15:01 – 0:15:02] Erik: Yeah.
[0:15:02 – 0:15:02] Adam: Yeah.
[0:15:03 – 0:15:08] Erik: It’s different because you scroll long enough and you’re going to just get into this groove of seeing the same pattern of things.
[0:15:08 – 0:15:08] Adam: It is.
[0:15:09 – 0:15:14] Erik: So you can get caught off guard by like, I get caught off guard by more of like the, oh, whoa, what is that?
[0:15:14 – 0:15:19] Erik: Then just like, man, that’s such a pretty picture of a nice sunset gleaming.
[0:15:20 – 0:15:21] Adam: It’s just nuts to me.
[0:15:22 – 0:15:33] Adam: I’d spent a good part of my young adult life and a career in print journalism and to now be a part of a, I guess we’re a successful podcast that we made it to 100.
[0:15:34 – 0:15:39] Adam: I don’t know if it’s actually successful, but it’s been successful to me.
[0:15:39 – 0:15:40] Adam: I feel good about it.
[0:15:40 – 0:15:44] Erik: Yeah, it’s successful to me because I feel good about it as well.
[0:15:44 – 0:15:45] Erik: And that’s really all that matters.
[0:15:46 – 0:15:54] Erik: I don’t really think at the end of the day, like number of followers, number of downloads, we’re interacting with an amazing audience.
[0:15:54 – 0:15:58] Erik: And that’s, you know, you get too big and then all of a sudden you’re like, well…
[0:16:00 – 0:16:28] Adam: thing like everybody likes to go paddling in the boundary waters is generally pretty cool so yeah we’re talking about a fun thing either it attracts fun people that’s i mean why it’s so fun to live up here yeah it’s great just to be out there so all right we’re starting off with digital zuckerberg the og suck he’s real he’s a real human boy zuckerberg and we’re on the tumble home facebook page here
[0:16:29 – 0:16:33] Adam: We got the internet here going in Studio K, and William Johnson is first in.
[0:16:35 – 0:16:36] Adam: I don’t know.
[0:16:36 – 0:16:38] Adam: He’s got seven hearts on this one.
[0:16:39 – 0:16:41] Adam: Currently in my room at Clearwater Lodge.
[0:16:42 – 0:16:45] Adam: Just finished an awesome breakfast, including a scrumptious blueberry scone.
[0:16:46 – 0:16:46] Adam: Is that true?
[0:16:47 – 0:16:48] Adam: You guys have scones?
[0:16:48 – 0:16:49] Adam: We’ve got some scones.
[0:16:49 – 0:17:02] Adam: Tomorrow morning, I hope to be fishing the Space Reef on Mountain Lake, followed by a baked laker in the reflector oven, a week of trout fishing, then home to repack for the month of June, chasing smallies.
[0:17:03 – 0:17:03] Adam: Oh, boy.
[0:17:04 – 0:17:05] Erik: Jeez, that is a month.
[0:17:06 – 0:17:07] Erik: 6-7 through 6-28?
[0:17:08 – 0:17:09] Erik: Just going for smallies.
[0:17:09 – 0:17:10] Erik: Just smallies.
[0:17:10 – 0:17:10] Erik: What’s entry point 37?
[0:17:10 – 0:17:14] Erik: It’s got to be over by Kawishawi.
[0:17:14 – 0:17:15] Adam: I have no idea.
[0:17:16 – 0:17:18] Erik: We’ll fact check that on the fly.
[0:17:18 – 0:17:20] Adam: What’s the most smallies you’ve ever caught in a day?
[0:17:21 – 0:17:21] Adam: I’d love to know.
[0:17:22 – 0:17:25] Erik: Didn’t you and Scott catch 50 each one day?
[0:17:25 – 0:17:26] Adam: Yeah, we went for 100.
[0:17:26 – 0:17:29] Adam: Speaking of 100, shout out to our good friend Scott.
[0:17:29 – 0:17:30] Adam: Yep.
[0:17:30 – 0:17:37] Adam: And remember that day we went on Daniel’s Lake and caught 100 smallies all in one lure, the MEPS number three spinner.
[0:17:38 – 0:17:39] Adam: There’s a fun fact for you.
[0:17:40 – 0:17:41] Adam: I’m going to look up this entry point.
[0:17:41 – 0:17:43] Adam: You got to get the next one.
[0:17:43 – 0:17:51] Erik: I got Dave heading out on Angleworm on Sunday the 24th and up to Crooked to fish the currents for walleyes.
[0:17:51 – 0:17:55] Erik: Then back down to Basswood Falls, my most favorite place on earth.
[0:17:56 – 0:17:59] Erik: Down the Horace River and out through Mudrow on the 2nd.
[0:17:59 – 0:18:02] Erik: And yes, we are doing the epic Mudrow portage.
[0:18:04 – 0:18:22] Erik: i’ve not heard anything about the mudrow portage it’s epic yeah that sounds like a sweet loop though i’ve done the the parts of that um gone in through angleworm over to four town up the horse river but we did not head south into mudrow we continued east um
[0:18:23 – 0:18:23] Adam: Yeah.
[0:18:24 – 0:18:25] Adam: Got a live fact check.
[0:18:25 – 0:18:25] Adam: You’re right.
[0:18:25 – 0:18:28] Adam: Entry point 37 is the Kawishui Lake.
[0:18:28 – 0:18:29] Erik: I nailed it.
[0:18:29 – 0:18:29] Erik: Nailed it.
[0:18:30 – 0:18:33] Erik: I am one with the park.
[0:18:33 – 0:18:37] Erik: You truly did take the red pill.
[0:18:37 – 0:18:37] Adam: Yes.
[0:18:38 – 0:18:44] Adam: Northwood’s Morpheus here in Studio K. Next up on Facebook is our good friend, Josh.
[0:18:45 – 0:18:48] Adam: Head in at Sawbill Friday for the Cherokee Loop.
[0:18:49 – 0:18:54] Adam: Kawishwee to the Malberg area and a couple weeks later Clearwater Loop in July.
[0:18:55 – 0:18:56] Adam: Woodlake in August.
[0:18:56 – 0:19:00] Adam: This will be the most trips and nights I’ve spent in the Boundary Waters.
[0:19:00 – 0:19:01] Adam: I can’t wait to get started.
[0:19:02 – 0:19:03] Adam: Congrats.
[0:19:04 – 0:19:07] Adam: That’s a nice quiver of trips you’ve got lined up there, Josh.
[0:19:07 – 0:19:09] Erik: That’s solid.
[0:19:09 – 0:19:11] Erik: I love looking forward to just one.
[0:19:11 – 0:19:13] Erik: Having a staggered
[0:19:14 – 0:19:20] Adam: Yeah, I can only imagine like a few times where I’ve actually had like multiple trips kind of planned out ahead like that.
[0:19:21 – 0:19:26] Erik: Yeah, we had a lot last year, but they were always like almost last second.
[0:19:26 – 0:19:27] Erik: Like, I don’t know.
[0:19:27 – 0:19:28] Erik: This seems like it can work.
[0:19:29 – 0:19:29] Erik: Let’s do it.
[0:19:29 – 0:19:29] Erik: We’re going.
[0:19:30 – 0:19:31] Adam: Not this year.
[0:19:31 – 0:19:33] Adam: You’ve got to get those permits extra early.
[0:19:34 – 0:19:36] Erik: Yeah, they’re flying.
[0:19:36 – 0:19:39] Erik: The Boundary Waters is the only place you can camp right now.
[0:19:39 – 0:19:40] Erik: It’s a hot ticket.
[0:19:40 – 0:19:43] Erik: Until at least June 1st, and then who knows?
[0:19:43 – 0:19:49] Erik: At that point, some of those campgrounds are going to have to prove that they can test you before they let you in.
[0:19:50 – 0:19:52] Erik: Oh, for real.
[0:19:52 – 0:19:53] Erik: It’s a Boundary Waters year.
[0:19:53 – 0:19:54] Erik: It’s the year of the Boundary Waters.
[0:19:54 – 0:19:58] Erik: It’s the hashtag last campground standing.
[0:19:58 – 0:20:00] Adam: Hashtag dispersed campground.
[0:20:01 – 0:20:07] Erik: Yeah, but I do kind of feel like maybe a few other campgrounds could open up a little bit.
[0:20:07 – 0:20:09] Erik: But anyway, let’s not get down that path too much.
[0:20:10 – 0:20:11] Erik: Alan, trip number one.
[0:20:12 – 0:20:14] Erik: Nina Moose to LLC.
[0:20:14 – 0:20:16] Erik: That’s Lac La Croix in late July.
[0:20:16 – 0:20:18] Erik: Trip two, to be determined.
[0:20:18 – 0:20:22] Erik: But looking very closely at Clearwater to North Fowl and back.
[0:20:23 – 0:20:25] Erik: That will be a late September trip.
[0:20:25 – 0:20:25] Erik: Alan.
[0:20:26 – 0:20:26] Erik: Alan.
[0:20:28 – 0:20:34] Erik: I have had on the ââ¬â there’s always a working list of episodes.
[0:20:34 – 0:20:35] Erik: Yeah.
[0:20:35 – 0:20:38] Erik: It’s always growing and shrinking and kind of morphing.
[0:20:39 – 0:20:43] Erik: One that I’ve always kind of wanted to do was like One Last Trip.
[0:20:44 – 0:20:45] Erik: Like, what’s your one last route?
[0:20:45 – 0:20:46] Erik: Holy moly.
[0:20:46 – 0:20:47] Erik: This is it.
[0:20:47 – 0:20:47] Erik: You’re done.
[0:20:48 – 0:20:53] Erik: Not that you immediately die when you get off the water, but it’s the last one that you ever get to think about.
[0:20:53 – 0:20:57] Erik: And a late fall, like peak fall colors, Clearwater Loop Vento.
[0:20:57 – 0:20:58] Erik: Yeah.
[0:20:59 – 0:21:00] Erik: I mean, that’s up there for me.
[0:21:00 – 0:21:04] Erik: So if you can get that in this fall, Alan, highly recommended.
[0:21:04 – 0:21:05] Adam: Jolly, jolly.
[0:21:05 – 0:21:06] Adam: Jolly, jolly.
[0:21:08 – 0:21:09] Adam: Ted W. is in.
[0:21:09 – 0:21:13] Adam: Going on my first trip ever to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area.
[0:21:13 – 0:21:14] Adam: I’m very excited.
[0:21:15 – 0:21:21] Adam: Plan is for a four-night base camp at Hudson Lake going in June 10, hoping for some good fishing.
[0:21:22 – 0:21:24] Adam: That’s a really good time of year to be fishing, Ted.
[0:21:24 – 0:21:25] Adam: That’s about the best time.
[0:21:25 – 0:21:28] Adam: I can pretty much guarantee you you’re going to catch some fish.
[0:21:28 – 0:21:38] Erik: Although there was a, not to put a negative spin on anything right now, a little bit of a black fly action happening up in the Clearwater parking lot this afternoon.
[0:21:38 – 0:21:40] Adam: The fishing’s going to be all the better.
[0:21:40 – 0:21:43] Adam: The worse the bugs are, the better the fishing is.
[0:21:43 – 0:21:44] Adam: Just think of it that way.
[0:21:45 – 0:21:51] Adam: There’s a positive way, I think, but every time I see bugs, I think, probably pretty good fishing right now.
[0:21:52 – 0:21:54] Erik: Andy, hoping for three chips.
[0:21:55 – 0:21:58] Erik: There’s all kinds of multi-trip deals happening this summer.
[0:21:58 – 0:21:59] Erik: This is incredible.
[0:21:59 – 0:22:00] Adam: I’m working way too much.
[0:22:01 – 0:22:02] Adam: Yeah, right?
[0:22:02 – 0:22:03] Adam: We work way too hard.
[0:22:05 – 0:22:22] Erik: number one i really think about my career choices what are you doing with your life uh my nephew and we were thinking about making our way to tuscarora route tbd another tbd look at all the tbds they can just they’re jumping off the page who knows you might you might end up in thelma
[0:22:23 – 0:22:23] Erik: Yeah.
[0:22:24 – 0:22:25] Erik: More on that later.
[0:22:25 – 0:22:32] Erik: My paddling buddy for at least a five-nighter, that entry and route is also still to be determined.
[0:22:34 – 0:22:35] Erik: We need to see more tab here.
[0:22:35 – 0:22:35] Erik: Get it.
[0:22:36 – 0:22:37] Erik: Oh, yeah.
[0:22:37 – 0:22:39] Erik: It has expanded into a much larger.
[0:22:39 – 0:22:40] Adam: Hold on.
[0:22:41 – 0:22:42] Erik: Ooh, it’s a super common.
[0:22:42 – 0:22:44] Erik: It’s a super common.
[0:22:44 – 0:22:44] Erik: Oh, boy.
[0:22:44 – 0:22:49] Erik: Would like to get to the Clearwater Lake route, or the Clearwater Lake area, sorry.
[0:22:49 – 0:22:56] Erik: We did a trip to Upper Basswood Falls and stayed at the second campsite last year just after Labor Day.
[0:22:56 – 0:22:58] Erik: Seen more bears than people.
[0:23:00 – 0:23:03] Erik: Yeah, that’s pretty notorious in that area for bad bears.
[0:23:04 – 0:23:09] Erik: One of the downsides, but, you know, they’re still just big squirrels to a certain extent.
[0:23:09 – 0:23:10] Adam: Even a bad bear is a good boy at heart.
[0:23:11 – 0:23:12] Erik: Yeah, just a good boy.
[0:23:12 – 0:23:13] Erik: Just looking to sniff.
[0:23:13 – 0:23:14] Adam: Just want to get that honey.
[0:23:15 – 0:23:19] Adam: Trip three will hopefully… That was way creepier than it should have been.
[0:23:19 – 0:23:25] Erik: Yeah, especially since I had already stopped paying attention to you and you said it again.
[0:23:25 – 0:23:29] Erik: Trip three will hopefully be a two-night solo back into Winchell.
[0:23:30 – 0:23:30] Erik: Hey!
[0:23:31 – 0:23:31] Erik: Big winch.
[0:23:32 – 0:23:41] Erik: I went there last year but hit too many weather changes for good fishing, so I want to scout the area better so I can bring a crew up there next year for some fishing.
[0:23:41 – 0:23:43] Erik: Keep up the great work, Eric and Adam.
[0:23:43 – 0:23:43] Adam: We will.
[0:23:43 – 0:23:44] Adam: We plan to.
[0:23:44 – 0:23:48] Adam: You’re putting in the work getting out there scouting routes for the crew.
[0:23:48 – 0:23:48] Erik: Yeah.
[0:23:49 – 0:23:51] Erik: Who’s scouting our routes?
[0:23:51 – 0:23:52] Erik: We’ve got to get some more interns.
[0:23:53 – 0:23:56] Adam: You can apply at Instagram or at Tumblehomecast.
[0:23:56 – 0:23:58] Adam: You just shoot me a message.
[0:23:58 – 0:24:05] Adam: We will give every intern his or her own Bowie knife and a microphone.
[0:24:05 – 0:24:06] Adam: Your own field mic.
[0:24:07 – 0:24:08] Adam: Here’s your field mic.
[0:24:08 – 0:24:09] Adam: Here’s your large knife.
[0:24:10 – 0:24:11] Adam: And go scout some routes.
[0:24:11 – 0:24:13] Erik: That’s a good gig.
[0:24:13 – 0:24:14] Erik: I would do it.
[0:24:15 – 0:24:16] Adam: Maybe I could sign up to be a scout.
[0:24:17 – 0:24:17] Erik: Route scouter.
[0:24:20 – 0:24:21] SPEAKER_00: Route scouters.
[0:24:22 – 0:24:24] Adam: We’re scouting those routes.
[0:24:28 – 0:24:28] Adam: Yes.
[0:24:29 – 0:24:29] Adam: Mark.
[0:24:30 – 0:24:30] Adam: Mark’s in.
[0:24:31 – 0:24:34] Adam: Heading to the Moose River up to Lac La Croix on Tuesday.
[0:24:35 – 0:24:36] Adam: Sawbill in August.
[0:24:36 – 0:24:39] Adam: And TBD in September, October.
[0:24:40 – 0:24:42] Adam: As long as you don’t go up a fire tower.
[0:24:42 – 0:24:43] Adam: Those things are death traps.
[0:24:43 – 0:24:44] Adam: Don’t do that in September.
[0:24:45 – 0:24:46] Erik: Yeah, as long as it’s TBD.
[0:24:47 – 0:24:48] Erik: I love all the TBDs.
[0:24:49 – 0:24:50] Adam: Keeping it open.
[0:24:50 – 0:24:52] Erik: Essentially, that is the world we’re living in.
[0:24:52 – 0:24:56] Adam: Every trip truly is TBD, is it not?
[0:24:56 – 0:24:57] Erik: 2020, TBD.
[0:24:59 – 0:25:00] Erik: Is that the title of this episode?
[0:25:02 – 0:25:04] Adam: No, it’s…
[0:25:04 – 0:25:05] Adam: It’ll speak to us.
[0:25:05 – 0:25:06] Adam: We’ll see.
[0:25:07 – 0:25:11] Erik: Jameson heading into EP 47.
[0:25:11 – 0:25:12] Erik: Round Lake.
[0:25:13 – 0:25:13] Erik: That’s Liz.
[0:25:13 – 0:25:14] Erik: Liz Lake.
[0:25:15 – 0:25:16] Erik: Nailed it.
[0:25:16 – 0:25:19] Erik: In a few weeks for my second BWCA trip.
[0:25:19 – 0:25:22] Erik: Think we’re going to base camp on meads.
[0:25:23 – 0:25:23] Erik: But not sure yet.
[0:25:23 – 0:25:25] Erik: Primarily a fishing and relaxing trip.
[0:25:25 – 0:25:27] Erik: It’ll be my son-in-law’s first trip.
[0:25:27 – 0:25:32] Erik: Those are some solid fishing waters.
[0:25:32 – 0:25:33] Erik: Caribou, horseshoe.
[0:25:34 – 0:25:39] Erik: If you’re not out there with a slip bobber and leeches and you’re going for walleyes, you’re doing something wrong.
[0:25:39 – 0:25:41] Adam: Get yourself a fresh white tube jig.
[0:25:42 – 0:25:43] Adam: Get out there on meads.
[0:25:44 – 0:25:49] Erik: Meads is a pretty good fishing lake, though, too, as well, off of either of those nice island campsites.
[0:25:49 – 0:25:51] Erik: I don’t know what I’m doing, and I caught a fish on meads.
[0:25:52 – 0:25:59] Erik: Weren’t you out there with Vanny one time casting in the midday 90-degree sun, and he picked one up on a Cyclops or something?
[0:25:59 – 0:26:01] Adam: Yeah, like the stupidest combination ever.
[0:26:02 – 0:26:06] Adam: High noon sun, Cyclops like double red eye spoon walleye.
[0:26:06 – 0:26:08] Adam: Just the most aggressive.
[0:26:08 – 0:26:09] Adam: 40 feet of water.
[0:26:09 – 0:26:10] Adam: Yeah.
[0:26:10 – 0:26:12] Adam: Didn’t make any sense on so many levels.
[0:26:12 – 0:26:14] Adam: That was like negative 4G.
[0:26:15 – 0:26:17] Adam: Four dimensions, not 4G.
[0:26:19 – 0:26:19] Adam: 4D?
[0:26:19 – 0:26:20] Adam: 4D.
[0:26:20 – 0:26:21] Adam: That was negative 4D.
[0:26:21 – 0:26:22] Adam: Yeah.
[0:26:22 – 0:26:25] Adam: Yeah, I’m no fan of that Portage to Meads.
[0:26:26 – 0:26:30] Adam: Well, it sounds like he’s got a 47 entry permit, so he can come up through the little river there.
[0:26:30 – 0:26:31] Adam: Yeah, that’s a neat little section.
[0:26:32 – 0:26:32] Adam: I like that spot.
[0:26:32 – 0:26:33] Adam: That’s fun.
[0:26:33 – 0:26:36] Erik: That’s way nicer than coming from Poplar to Meads on that mile line.
[0:26:36 – 0:26:38] Adam: Oh, that Poplar to Meads one, I don’t know why.
[0:26:38 – 0:26:42] Adam: It doesn’t agree with me, so be careful on that one.
[0:26:44 – 0:26:48] Adam: Alex just did her first day trip of the paddling season yesterday.
[0:26:48 – 0:26:51] Adam: Went from Kawishui to Square looking for walleyes.
[0:26:52 – 0:26:56] Adam: No such luck for us, but a beautiful morning for paddle.
[0:26:56 – 0:27:00] Adam: My wife and I will be entering in the Crocodile River this weekend.
[0:27:00 – 0:27:01] Adam: Whoa, whoa, whoa.
[0:27:01 – 0:27:01] Adam: Here we go.
[0:27:02 – 0:27:03] Adam: We’ve got a potential.
[0:27:03 – 0:27:03] Erik: Yeah.
[0:27:04 – 0:27:05] Erik: Oh, yeah.
[0:27:07 – 0:27:13] Adam: My wife and I will be entering at the Crocodile River this weekend to explore Johnson Falls and hopefully find a lake or two.
[0:27:13 – 0:27:17] Adam: All I know for the future of 2020 is that there will be paddling.
[0:27:18 – 0:27:20] Adam: No one knows where it will take us just yet, though.
[0:27:21 – 0:27:22] Adam: Happy paddling, everyone.
[0:27:22 – 0:27:22] Adam: Thank you.
[0:27:23 – 0:27:24] Erik: Nice comment, Alex.
[0:27:24 – 0:27:25] Adam: Yes, well struck, Alex.
[0:27:26 – 0:27:30] Adam: Are you going in proper on the Crocodile River through South Bean?
[0:27:31 – 0:27:32] Adam: Bean and Parsnip?
[0:27:32 – 0:27:36] Adam: Through the backdoor bushwhack into Crocodile River itself?
[0:27:37 – 0:27:40] Erik: Well, there’s portages through there, but they’re pretty bushwhacky.
[0:27:41 – 0:27:42] Adam: They’re very PMA-esque.
[0:27:42 – 0:27:45] Erik: Not straight bushwhack, but pretty tough.
[0:27:45 – 0:27:51] Adam: Me and Tyrader chased a bull moose down from one of those lakes into one of the other ones.
[0:27:52 – 0:28:18] Adam: i think it starts with south bean and then into parsnip into parsnip and then down to the river from there and then into the river from what i remember it was that last one from parsnip down to the river that was um the portage was lost actually it was it wasn’t downloading properly so we just had to kind of go downhill yeah and then uh tie rider never seen a moose before and he chased one down the portage and then we like busted out at the river and it was on the other side and kind of went down a ways beautiful sighting
[0:28:19 – 0:28:40] Erik: nice yeah that is if you’re coming in from the bean parsnip way that is hardcore that is an aggressive attack at johnson falls you might as well go in through rocky and ivory either way the crocodile in june this is uh a good oh whatever end of may early june good time to be in there yeah yeah that’s the far east end of that lake is uh gonzo with walleyes
[0:28:42 – 0:28:43] Adam: I saw a perch in there one time.
[0:28:44 – 0:28:44] Adam: You seen a perch?
[0:28:44 – 0:28:46] Adam: Oh, I seen a perch in there one time, too.
[0:28:46 – 0:28:49] Adam: And it was reading John Steinbeck.
[0:28:50 – 0:28:52] Erik: You saw a perch while reading Steinbeck out on a rock?
[0:28:53 – 0:28:53] Erik: Yeah.
[0:28:53 – 0:28:54] Adam: It’s a peaceful scene.
[0:28:54 – 0:28:55] Adam: Wearing a nice straw hat.
[0:28:55 – 0:28:57] Adam: It was serene.
[0:28:57 – 0:28:58] Adam: Yeah.
[0:28:58 – 0:29:00] Erik: You want to see a dead body?
[0:29:00 – 0:29:01] Erik: All right, Chad.
[0:29:02 – 0:29:05] Erik: Driving up tomorrow to spend a couple of days on Seagull.
[0:29:06 – 0:29:09] Erik: Then coming back up June 16th to spend a week on Knife.
[0:29:09 – 0:29:09] Erik: Yes.
[0:29:10 – 0:29:11] Erik: No, no, no, no, Knife.
[0:29:11 – 0:29:12] Adam: June 16th on Knife.
[0:29:13 – 0:29:13] Adam: Get out of here.
[0:29:14 – 0:29:15] Adam: Get out of here with that trip.
[0:29:15 – 0:29:21] Erik: You better bring cargo shorts because you’re going to need all the room you can possibly handle for walleye fillets.
[0:29:21 – 0:29:25] Adam: You’re going to gain 50 pounds on that trip on pure walleye.
[0:29:26 – 0:29:51] Adam: brian’s up next coming up to clearwater in august east bearskin entry point that’s a good way to get at it taking my seven-year-old son on his first trip and i cannot wait nice yes well love it we have broken the seal we will do uh cold open intros for first timers yeah send us an email tumblehomecast at gmail.com shout outs going all around
[0:29:51 – 0:29:52] Erik: Yep.
[0:29:52 – 0:29:55] Erik: You’re there for us, and we’re there for you.
[0:29:56 – 0:29:57] Erik: Andrew, Clearwater Lodge.
[0:29:57 – 0:29:59] Erik: Wow, there’s a theme here on Facebook.
[0:29:59 – 0:30:01] Erik: It’s almost like I work there.
[0:30:02 – 0:30:08] Erik: Clearwater Lodge, June 20th for three nights, then five days from EP62 with kids and wife.
[0:30:10 – 0:30:11] Erik: Beyond excited.
[0:30:12 – 0:30:12] Erik: It’s happening.
[0:30:12 – 0:30:13] Erik: It is all happening.
[0:30:13 – 0:30:14] Erik: That’s great.
[0:30:15 – 0:30:20] Erik: Andrew sounds like he’s got the three days at the lodge with then five days in the woods.
[0:30:21 – 0:30:25] Erik: I mean, that’s a choice vacation right there.
[0:30:25 – 0:30:26] Adam: It’s real mint.
[0:30:27 – 0:30:30] Adam: Make sure you stop by Eric’s window to get a pizza biter.
[0:30:30 – 0:30:31] Erik: Stop by my window.
[0:30:31 – 0:30:38] Erik: I’m sure by then the beard will be down to my belly button and I will have the corndog machine perfected.
[0:30:38 – 0:30:39] Adam: I’ll tell you what.
[0:30:41 – 0:30:43] Adam: Matthew, thank you, Matthew, for writing.
[0:30:44 – 0:30:47] Adam: June 27th, heading for Knife and Kekakabik.
[0:30:48 – 0:30:54] Adam: We’ll divert to the man chain if border opens and we get our R-A-B-C, which is on hold.
[0:30:55 – 0:30:56] Adam: They always are, aren’t they?
[0:30:57 – 0:31:01] Adam: You can always go up to the border and pester them at the border station.
[0:31:01 – 0:31:01] Adam: They love that.
[0:31:01 – 0:31:05] Erik: I’m sure right now, especially, they would love to just have foreigners.
[0:31:05 – 0:31:06] Adam: Hey, now the border’s closed.
[0:31:06 – 0:31:09] Adam: Yeah, so you got time to issue an R-A-B-C then, I suspect, eh?
[0:31:09 – 0:31:10] Erik: Yeah, exactly.
[0:31:10 – 0:31:11] Erik: Yeah, I believe.
[0:31:11 – 0:31:13] Adam: Well, that would be amazing.
[0:31:13 – 0:31:16] Adam: That would be like a wonderful last second audible on that one.
[0:31:17 – 0:31:18] Adam: That’s a real TBD.
[0:31:19 – 0:31:19] Erik: TBD.
[0:31:19 – 0:31:27] Adam: Yeah, you know, if the border opens and the RABC comes through, I might be able to go up to Otherman and camp on the island, do a little rock jumping.
[0:31:28 – 0:31:28] Erik: Yep.
[0:31:29 – 0:31:31] Erik: Yeah.
[0:31:31 – 0:31:32] Erik: All of that sounds amazing.
[0:31:33 – 0:31:36] Erik: Skewed a little heavily towards Clearwater.
[0:31:37 – 0:31:38] Erik: I don’t know why.
[0:31:39 – 0:31:41] Adam: Because it’s an awesome spot.
[0:31:41 – 0:31:41] Erik: Oh, that’s right.
[0:31:41 – 0:31:42] Adam: Yeah.
[0:31:42 – 0:31:43] Erik: Forgot.
[0:31:43 – 0:31:44] Erik: Yeah.
[0:31:44 – 0:31:45] Adam: So we talk about it constantly.
[0:31:45 – 0:31:47] Adam: We constantly talk about it.
[0:31:47 – 0:31:49] Adam: Everyone should see it, so I’m happy to see that.
[0:31:49 – 0:31:50] Adam: Yeah.
[0:31:50 – 0:31:50] Adam: Make it in there.
[0:31:51 – 0:31:54] Adam: So that’s a real choice EP.
[0:31:54 – 0:31:54] Adam: Yeah.
[0:31:55 – 0:32:04] Erik: Again, I don’t want to bring it down too much, but it’s just in the last few days of being open at the lodge and only having the window service available.
[0:32:04 – 0:32:09] Erik: It does really suck that people can’t come in and see the lodge for all its glory and what it is.
[0:32:10 – 0:32:12] Erik: So I feel kind of bad.
[0:32:12 – 0:32:13] Erik: And it makes me sad.
[0:32:13 – 0:32:14] Erik: They can peek in the windows.
[0:32:14 – 0:32:15] Erik: You can peek in the windows.
[0:32:16 – 0:32:17] Erik: And you can be on the porch, which is the best part.
[0:32:18 – 0:32:20] Erik: Yeah, you still get the porch and you still get the view down the lake.
[0:32:20 – 0:32:22] Adam: To me, the porch is the best part.
[0:32:22 – 0:32:23] Adam: I mean, the fireplace is grand.
[0:32:24 – 0:32:24] Adam: Yes.
[0:32:25 – 0:32:31] Adam: And, you know, if you get upstairs, you can interact with the specters, perhaps.
[0:32:31 – 0:32:33] Adam: But the porch is the nicest part.
[0:32:34 – 0:32:34] Erik: Yeah.
[0:32:35 – 0:32:41] Adam: And especially if you’ve got a nice corndog and a beer, you can overlook the lake and have a nice sit on the rocking chair there.
[0:32:42 – 0:32:43] Adam: Charlie would love it.
[0:32:44 – 0:33:06] Erik: yeah it’s kind of crazy we were talking uh during our staff meeting like we’re obviously everybody’s living in these fill-in-the-blank times the troubles the troubles but it’s like we’re the like the for how old the lodge is it’s crazy that it’s the first it’s the it’s the first pandemic that the lodge has even experienced wasn’t around for 18 huh
[0:33:06 – 0:33:08] Erik: 26 is when it was completed.
[0:33:09 – 0:33:14] Erik: So yeah, it’s the first pandemic season at Clearwater Historic Lodge.
[0:33:14 – 0:33:17] Adam: So you’re saying after this pandemic, we should build a large log structure?
[0:33:18 – 0:33:20] Erik: We should build a sarcophagus over it like Chernobyl.
[0:33:21 – 0:33:24] Erik: And I don’t know why, but to protect it from fires.
[0:33:25 – 0:33:25] Adam: Yes.
[0:33:26 – 0:33:26] Adam: Yes.
[0:33:27 – 0:33:32] Erik: Now, you can still come up and experience Clearwater in all its glory.
[0:33:32 – 0:33:33] Erik: There is just one.
[0:33:34 – 0:33:40] Erik: One of the coolest parts of it is unfortunately closed, but the vast majority of the property is still open and obviously the Bodgewaters.
[0:33:40 – 0:33:41] Adam: Are the Palisades still open?
[0:33:42 – 0:33:43] Erik: The Palisades are still open.
[0:33:44 – 0:33:44] Erik: Perfect.
[0:33:44 – 0:33:53] Erik: Open for exploration, for vista bagging, and for just generally being under them in the shadow of awe.
[0:33:54 – 0:33:55] Erik: Well said.
[0:33:55 – 0:33:56] Erik: Well said.
[0:33:56 – 0:33:57] Erik: Thank you.
[0:33:57 – 0:33:57] Erik: Let’s take a quick break.
[0:33:58 – 0:34:02] Erik: We’re going to finish with our Tumble Homecast.
[0:34:02 – 0:34:03] Erik: Got to get used to saying that.
[0:34:03 – 0:34:06] Adam: First ever question of the week on our Tumble Homecast.
[0:34:07 – 0:34:07] Adam: Yep.
[0:34:07 – 0:34:13] Adam: It’s the hottest new subreddit on the outdoor segment of Reddit in at least the last three days.
[0:34:14 – 0:34:14] Adam: Yeah.
[0:34:14 – 0:34:15] Adam: No doubt about it.
[0:34:15 – 0:34:15] Erik: Yep.
[0:34:16 – 0:34:17] Erik: It’s growing exponentially.
[0:34:18 – 0:34:20] Erik: We’re not trying to flatten any curves on our…
[0:34:20 – 0:34:37] Adam: it’s spiking it’s spiking it’s out of control it’s out of control stay tuned on to the birdhouse do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do
[0:34:37 – 0:34:42] Adam: Yeah, I think at this point you do… Yeah, we just steal some display.
[0:34:42 – 0:34:45] Adam: He would never come after us on episode 100.
[0:34:45 – 0:34:49] Erik: No, not for such a momentous occasion as is episode 100.
[0:34:49 – 0:34:52] Adam: We need some display, for sure.
[0:34:52 – 0:34:54] Adam: So these Coghlan’s beers are 10%, apparently.
[0:34:54 – 0:34:55] Adam: Yes.
[0:34:55 – 0:34:57] Adam: Eric just pointed out this to me in the break.
[0:34:58 – 0:35:01] Erik: During the break, we realized that they were 10%.
[0:35:01 – 0:35:04] Adam: Even Coghlan’s 10% is probably only like a 3%, right?
[0:35:04 – 0:35:05] Adam: Yeah.
[0:35:05 – 0:35:05] Adam: It’s a 3-2.
[0:35:06 – 0:35:07] Erik: Or maybe they really screwed it up.
[0:35:07 – 0:35:08] Erik: It’s a 20.
[0:35:08 – 0:35:09] SPEAKER_00: It’s a barley wine.
[0:35:09 – 0:35:15] Adam: Eric, why don’t you wash your mouth?
[0:35:16 – 0:35:21] Erik: I have very little time in my schedule these days.
[0:35:21 – 0:35:26] Erik: It’s not like the winter where I just get to be hanging out whenever.
[0:35:27 – 0:35:30] Erik: we were talking when I came over, you were like, Hey, maybe we could do this.
[0:35:30 – 0:35:31] Erik: Maybe we could do that.
[0:35:31 – 0:35:33] Erik: And it’s like, Hey, I’m like, I’m working now.
[0:35:33 – 0:35:39] Erik: I know six months of the year, I was always ready to be like working, but I’m the opposite.
[0:35:39 – 0:35:40] Adam: Like way more busy now.
[0:35:40 – 0:35:41] Erik: Hey, you want to hang out?
[0:35:42 – 0:35:42] Erik: Let’s hang out.
[0:35:43 – 0:35:46] Erik: And now it’s the exact opposite where it’s like, all right, it’s, uh,
[0:35:47 – 0:35:51] Erik: Nine o’clock at night and we’re squeezing this in, but we’re doing it.
[0:35:51 – 0:35:52] Erik: On a work night.
[0:35:52 – 0:35:53] Erik: Oh, for me.
[0:35:54 – 0:35:54] Erik: Not for you.
[0:35:55 – 0:35:55] Erik: I worked all day too.
[0:35:56 – 0:35:57] Erik: Well, but you don’t have to work tomorrow.
[0:35:58 – 0:35:58] Adam: Straight up.
[0:35:58 – 0:36:00] Erik: It doesn’t count as a work night if you worked today.
[0:36:02 – 0:36:04] Adam: That’s how the weekends work.
[0:36:04 – 0:36:05] Erik: Yeah, that’s a weekend.
[0:36:06 – 0:36:08] Adam: Anyhow, these things are really going down well.
[0:36:08 – 0:36:12] Adam: Thank you to the anonymous donor on these beers because I’m feeling great.
[0:36:12 – 0:36:20] Erik: Yeah, we need to get through these subreddit responses before it turns into that Dragon’s Milk episode.
[0:36:20 – 0:36:27] Adam: We were joking, like, we better get it in in 55 minutes, because at 111 minutes, I’m not going to be able to handle myself anymore.
[0:36:27 – 0:36:28] Erik: Yeah.
[0:36:28 – 0:36:28] Adam: On to…
[0:36:30 – 0:36:32] Adam: Digital Reddit.
[0:36:33 – 0:36:34] Adam: Our Tumble Home Cast.
[0:36:34 – 0:36:36] Adam: First ever question of the week on Tumble Home Cast.
[0:36:37 – 0:36:37] Erik: Yep.
[0:36:37 – 0:36:40] Adam: This is the greatest subreddit on all of Reddit.
[0:36:40 – 0:36:41] Adam: If you’re not in, get in now.
[0:36:42 – 0:36:43] Adam: Get in now.
[0:36:43 – 0:36:44] Erik: Buy in low.
[0:36:45 – 0:36:45] Erik: Question of the week.
[0:36:46 – 0:36:47] Erik: Hi, hi, hi.
[0:36:47 – 0:36:48] Erik: How’s she going by?
[0:36:48 – 0:36:53] Erik: It seems the BWCA will be opening for overnight camping again here shortly.
[0:36:54 – 0:36:59] Erik: And we wanted to start the open water season off with one of our favorite questions.
[0:37:00 – 0:37:02] Erik: What are your BW plans for 2020?
[0:37:02 – 0:37:03] Erik: Where are you heading?
[0:37:04 – 0:37:05] Erik: What are you thinking?
[0:37:06 – 0:37:07] Erik: What are you excited for?
[0:37:07 – 0:37:08] Erik: How’s she going by?
[0:37:08 – 0:37:10] Erik: How’s she going by?
[0:37:10 – 0:37:12] Erik: Thanks for listening.
[0:37:12 – 0:37:14] Erik: Thanks for being involved in our show.
[0:37:14 – 0:37:15] Erik: Little show, I think I said.
[0:37:16 – 0:37:16] Erik: And happy paddling.
[0:37:16 – 0:37:17] Erik: Happy paddling.
[0:37:18 – 0:37:19] Erik: So we’re going to start.
[0:37:19 – 0:37:22] Erik: You want to read Aldi1’s comment?
[0:37:23 – 0:37:24] Adam: Yeah, sure.
[0:37:24 – 0:37:25] Adam: Give me a tilt.
[0:37:26 – 0:37:28] Adam: Aldi1, good friend of the show.
[0:37:29 – 0:37:30] Adam: Six points.
[0:37:30 – 0:37:34] Adam: I’m heading up to the Gunflint Trail for the first time next week.
[0:37:35 – 0:37:36] Adam: I’ve only gone out the west side.
[0:37:37 – 0:37:41] Adam: The plan is to base camp on Little Sag, maybe spend the final night on Tuscarora.
[0:37:41 – 0:37:44] Adam: By the time this episode comes out, I’ll be paddling back to Round Lake.
[0:37:45 – 0:37:49] Adam: I’m just excited to be able to go up, but especially looking forward to seeing new territory.
[0:37:50 – 0:37:51] Adam: Huzzah, huzzah.
[0:37:51 – 0:37:54] Adam: A goal for this year was to enhance camp cooking.
[0:37:55 – 0:37:58] Adam: I will be dehydrating more of the meals and trying some new recipes.
[0:37:59 – 0:38:02] Adam: Another big goal of mine is to relax more on trips.
[0:38:02 – 0:38:12] Adam: I spend so much time planning and worrying about things before and during, it’s time to let my uncut rona hair down and just enjoy being in the moment.
[0:38:13 – 0:38:16] Adam: Some things to help with that is to organize camp gear more.
[0:38:17 – 0:38:19] Adam: I got a new nifty hanging organizer.
[0:38:20 – 0:38:23] Adam: To lessen the amount of time I’m searching for things or helping others.
[0:38:24 – 0:38:27] Adam: And to bring a book to force myself to slow down.
[0:38:28 – 0:38:31] Adam: I also like the doodle and journal idea.
[0:38:32 – 0:38:34] Adam: Cheers and happy paddling.
[0:38:34 – 0:38:34] Adam: Thank you.
[0:38:36 – 0:38:38] Erik: Happy paddling to you, Aldi1.
[0:38:39 – 0:38:41] Erik: And best of luck out there.
[0:38:44 – 0:38:47] Adam: You’re going to start the trip with no bugs and end it with bugs, I predict.
[0:38:47 – 0:38:48] Adam: End it with bugs.
[0:38:48 – 0:38:49] Adam: Yeah.
[0:38:49 – 0:38:52] Adam: Yeah, well, you know, and it brings… That’s a good time to be out, right?
[0:38:52 – 0:38:53] Adam: The threshold.
[0:38:54 – 0:38:54] Erik: Yes.
[0:38:55 – 0:39:01] Erik: And there’s always a little bit of a first bump before it really gets into the, all right, now the bugs are out.
[0:39:01 – 0:39:12] Erik: But I’ve been thinking, too, on just my trip thoughts, and I like how you put the…
[0:39:14 – 0:39:29] Erik: relaxing more on trips and I don’t necessarily think that I would be called out as somebody who’s not relaxing on trips but it’s more in the headspace like the mental aspect of it and thinking about I gotta get to this place I gotta get here
[0:39:30 – 0:39:31] Erik: Boy, oh boy, the timing of things.
[0:39:31 – 0:39:40] Erik: I just really want to try to go with the flow, especially on this first trip that me and you are taking, which involves a lot of rivers.
[0:39:40 – 0:39:46] Erik: And I feel like it is appropriate that being so river heavy.
[0:39:48 – 0:39:49] Erik: Then I’m just going to go with the flow.
[0:39:50 – 0:39:52] Erik: Yeah, you got to.
[0:39:52 – 0:40:01] Erik: It’s not a heart of the park scenario where we’re looking to get to places and kind of go as fast as we can go.
[0:40:01 – 0:40:08] Erik: I’m just looking to try to fully enjoy the speed at which we travel and where we end up.
[0:40:09 – 0:40:12] Erik: And where we decide to stop is going to end up being fine.
[0:40:12 – 0:40:13] Erik: There’s some places I want to get to and see.
[0:40:14 – 0:40:19] Erik: And I don’t think we’ve been off too much just on a basic rough route that we’ve put in.
[0:40:20 – 0:40:21] Erik: But I like the idea.
[0:40:21 – 0:40:28] Erik: And it is a challenge to try to like relax yourself because it is all built up to like planning.
[0:40:29 – 0:40:30] Erik: Who’s bringing this?
[0:40:30 – 0:40:30] Erik: Who’s bringing that?
[0:40:31 – 0:40:31] Erik: Yeah.
[0:40:31 – 0:40:32] Erik: Route, route, route, route, route.
[0:40:32 – 0:40:33] Erik: You’re looking at all these things.
[0:40:33 – 0:40:34] Adam: If we get here, then we can get to there.
[0:40:35 – 0:40:36] Erik: And then you get out there and that’s all you can think of.
[0:40:37 – 0:40:37] Erik: Yeah.
[0:40:37 – 0:40:43] Erik: So it can be a challenge sometimes to actually relax and let your uncut Rona hair down.
[0:40:44 – 0:40:46] Erik: So thank you, Aldi1, for that.
[0:40:46 – 0:40:50] Erik: And thanks for the voicemail from last week as well.
[0:40:51 – 0:40:52] Adam: Oh, yeah.
[0:40:52 – 0:40:53] Adam: Super shout out.
[0:40:53 – 0:40:55] Adam: Color yellow kayak.
[0:40:55 – 0:40:56] Adam: That’s a nice yellow kayak.
[0:40:57 – 0:40:59] Erik: Cheap underscore dancer.
[0:41:00 – 0:41:01] Erik: Six points.
[0:41:01 – 0:41:09] Erik: 2020 will be a very different canoe season, starting with the obvious question, how many pizza biters can I slip through my mask?
[0:41:11 – 0:41:13] Adam: You got to get a biter vent.
[0:41:13 – 0:41:15] Adam: Yes, you got to get a biter vent.
[0:41:15 – 0:41:16] Adam: Coghlan’s biter vents.
[0:41:16 – 0:41:19] Erik: A biter slider.
[0:41:20 – 0:41:23] Erik: Just a little slides over to the side.
[0:41:24 – 0:41:25] Adam: It’s more like a biter snorkel.
[0:41:26 – 0:41:26] Adam: Yeah.
[0:41:26 – 0:41:28] Adam: It can hold up to 20 biters.
[0:41:28 – 0:41:31] Adam: And then you just kind of hold your thumb over the top and…
[0:41:31 – 0:41:33] Erik: It’s like an inverted PEZ dispenser.
[0:41:33 – 0:41:34] Erik: Exactly.
[0:41:34 – 0:41:35] Adam: It has biters loaded in.
[0:41:35 – 0:41:39] Adam: You just put the plunger down like an old Civil War era rifle.
[0:41:40 – 0:41:42] Adam: Like a Springfield in the field.
[0:41:42 – 0:41:43] Adam: Just… Yep.
[0:41:44 – 0:41:44] Adam: Perfect.
[0:41:44 – 0:41:46] Adam: I think we’ve got this figured out now.
[0:41:46 – 0:41:47] Adam: Biter tubes.
[0:41:47 – 0:41:50] Erik: Coghlan’s brand of biter tubes for the Rona.
[0:41:51 – 0:41:51] Erik: Oh, yeah.
[0:41:51 – 0:41:53] Erik: Could you imagine the Coghlan’s commercial?
[0:41:54 – 0:41:58] Erik: Here at Coghlan’s, your health and safety is always at front of mind.
[0:41:58 – 0:41:59] Adam: Five beers and…
[0:42:00 – 0:42:01] Adam: Biter snorkels.
[0:42:01 – 0:42:09] Erik: We know you’d still love to appreciate our fine, fine products of hot congealed oils and cracker bastes.
[0:42:10 – 0:42:11] Erik: And cheese product.
[0:42:11 – 0:42:12] Erik: And cheese product.
[0:42:12 – 0:42:15] Erik: But we also know a lot of your mouths are covered.
[0:42:15 – 0:42:17] Erik: Introducing the Coglins…
[0:42:19 – 0:42:25] Erik: snorkel for pre-loading and it heats on the go.
[0:42:25 – 0:42:28] Erik: It’s like one of those reflector ovens.
[0:42:28 – 0:42:30] Erik: It’s got a little heater element in it.
[0:42:30 – 0:42:31] Erik: Not a heater element.
[0:42:31 – 0:42:38] Adam: It’s like an on-demand water heater built into a snorkel pre-loaded with biters.
[0:42:39 – 0:42:41] Erik: Or maybe it’s just like two D-cell batteries.
[0:42:41 – 0:42:42] Adam: Or are you saying it could be solar powered?
[0:42:42 – 0:42:44] Adam: I was thinking it could be a solar thing.
[0:42:44 – 0:42:46] Adam: Yeah, just get some panels.
[0:42:46 – 0:42:47] Erik: Yeah, get some panels on it.
[0:42:48 – 0:42:52] Adam: That’s going to really cut down on your swimming dynacism.
[0:42:52 – 0:42:53] Erik: Well, you don’t swim.
[0:42:53 – 0:42:54] Erik: You just, you portage with it.
[0:42:54 – 0:42:57] Adam: You’re like wading while you feast.
[0:42:58 – 0:42:59] Erik: Well, you don’t have to be in the water.
[0:43:00 – 0:43:03] Erik: It’s just a snorkel to also keep the mask on your face.
[0:43:03 – 0:43:04] Erik: Yeah, I guess.
[0:43:04 – 0:43:06] Erik: It’s not so you can eat biters in the water.
[0:43:06 – 0:43:07] Erik: That’s an entirely different invention.
[0:43:07 – 0:43:09] Adam: Well, we could go either way on that one.
[0:43:09 – 0:43:10] Adam: Yeah, we could.
[0:43:10 – 0:43:13] Adam: Duno, 6, 3, 4, 5 points.
[0:43:13 – 0:43:14] Adam: Thanks for trending him.
[0:43:15 – 0:43:19] Adam: Taking the brother-in-law and two nephews on their first trip into the B-Dub.
[0:43:19 – 0:43:26] Adam: Entry is East Bearskin, heading up through Canoe, Pine, Little Boo, Big Boo, Clearwater, and into Mountain.
[0:43:27 – 0:43:27] Adam: Whoa.
[0:43:27 – 0:43:29] Adam: Heading back out through deer and moon.
[0:43:30 – 0:43:31] Adam: That’s a super loop.
[0:43:31 – 0:43:32] Adam: Yeah.
[0:43:32 – 0:43:37] Adam: Trying to catch some fish, find a few nice stories, and have a good time along the way.
[0:43:39 – 0:43:47] Adam: Not sure what’s going to be in the cards for the wife and I after that, but I’m sure we’ll find out way on some random open entry point.
[0:43:47 – 0:44:03] Erik: what did i read that wrong or is that anyways i think we got the gist of it i’m sure we will find out way at some way away we’ll find our way our way yeah yeah just wait and see what’s open make the weekend run tbd tbd tbd 2020 tbd
[0:44:05 – 0:44:07] Adam: Everybody knows I love deer and moon.
[0:44:08 – 0:44:08] Adam: Yeah, I don’t know.
[0:44:08 – 0:44:11] Adam: If you found a way into my heart with that comment.
[0:44:11 – 0:44:12] Erik: If everybody knows that or not.
[0:44:12 – 0:44:13] Adam: I love deer and moon.
[0:44:13 – 0:44:17] Erik: It is kind of a crazy crisscross destruction derby.
[0:44:17 – 0:44:20] Erik: Yeah, it is like driving a bus in reverse.
[0:44:20 – 0:44:20] Erik: Reverse.
[0:44:20 – 0:44:23] Erik: Yeah, it’s like the reverse helix of routes.
[0:44:24 – 0:44:28] Adam: Yeah, it’s kind of like an inverted quantum helix of routes.
[0:44:28 – 0:44:29] Adam: Exactly.
[0:44:29 – 0:44:29] Adam: Well done.
[0:44:30 – 0:44:30] Erik: Yeah.
[0:44:31 – 0:44:31] Erik: Mr. Ghost.
[0:44:32 – 0:44:33] Erik: 6’8″.
[0:44:34 – 0:44:42] Erik: We are planning a trip in early July to enter Fall Lake Entry Point 24 and head to Basswood, then follow the border west to Lac La Croix.
[0:44:43 – 0:44:47] Erik: After that, head south to Agnes, Moose, and leave Entry Point 16.
[0:44:48 – 0:44:49] Erik: Sounds nice.
[0:44:49 – 0:44:50] Erik: Hey, Mr. Ghost, what’s the…
[0:44:52 – 0:44:54] Erik: The shuttling situation there, that’s kind of the…
[0:44:55 – 0:44:59] Erik: I’d like to know more how people put together these trips where they end on vastly different…
[0:45:00 – 0:45:02] Adam: Thumb out, show a little leg.
[0:45:02 – 0:45:03] Erik: Yeah.
[0:45:03 – 0:45:06] Adam: Everybody’s willing to pick up a hitchhiker in the Boundary Waters.
[0:45:06 – 0:45:07] Adam: We all know it.
[0:45:07 – 0:45:08] Adam: It’s always an option.
[0:45:09 – 0:45:10] Adam: Friend of the show, bird dogging it in.
[0:45:10 – 0:45:11] Adam: No.
[0:45:11 – 0:45:11] Adam: Four points.
[0:45:12 – 0:45:13] Erik: I get bird dogging it.
[0:45:13 – 0:45:14] Adam: All right.
[0:45:14 – 0:45:16] Adam: I planned it this way.
[0:45:16 – 0:45:17] Adam: I see what you’ve done here.
[0:45:19 – 0:45:21] Adam: Friend of the show, Boone Quest, four points.
[0:45:22 – 0:45:24] Adam: Taking my first trip ever with five good friends.
[0:45:25 – 0:45:28] Adam: Looking forward to the experiences I hear everyone talk about so much.
[0:45:29 – 0:45:30] Adam: Really hoping the fishing is good.
[0:45:31 – 0:45:32] Adam: Head out June 10th.
[0:45:32 – 0:45:32] Adam: It will be good.
[0:45:33 – 0:45:35] Adam: Yeah, you get nothing to worry about on that fishing front.
[0:45:35 – 0:45:37] Adam: You’re going to probably get the Grand Slam.
[0:45:38 – 0:45:38] Adam: Hell, I’ll go ahead.
[0:45:38 – 0:45:40] Adam: Boone Quest, I’ll guarantee it.
[0:45:40 – 0:45:42] Adam: Grand slam for you and an upvote.
[0:45:42 – 0:45:42] Adam: Take it.
[0:45:42 – 0:45:43] Adam: You got it.
[0:45:43 – 0:45:43] Adam: Thank you.
[0:45:43 – 0:45:44] Adam: You got it.
[0:45:44 – 0:45:45] Erik: Already been taken.
[0:45:45 – 0:45:46] Erik: Already been had.
[0:45:46 – 0:45:49] Erik: I kind of wanted to know where.
[0:45:49 – 0:45:49] Erik: I’m jazzed.
[0:45:50 – 0:45:51] Erik: Yeah, I wanted to know where.
[0:45:51 – 0:45:52] Adam: You had a good tempo to that comment.
[0:45:53 – 0:45:53] Erik: It was.
[0:45:53 – 0:45:57] Erik: I didn’t necessarily get an idea on where Boone Quest was going, though.
[0:45:58 – 0:45:59] Erik: Doesn’t matter.
[0:45:59 – 0:45:59] Erik: Doesn’t matter.
[0:45:59 – 0:46:00] Adam: He’s got five good friends.
[0:46:00 – 0:46:01] Adam: As long as he’s with five good friends.
[0:46:01 – 0:46:03] Adam: It doesn’t matter what the entry point is.
[0:46:06 – 0:46:08] Erik: Uh-oh, I should have left bird dogging it for you.
[0:46:08 – 0:46:09] Erik: There’s some French.
[0:46:10 – 0:46:12] Adam: Oh, yeah, your French is great, though.
[0:46:12 – 0:46:13] Adam: You’re really working on it.
[0:46:13 – 0:46:14] Adam: I can tell you’re really putting in the time.
[0:46:14 – 0:46:15] Erik: Yeah, yeah.
[0:46:15 – 0:46:19] Erik: I just sit at the front desk in the window doing Duolingo France.
[0:46:20 – 0:46:27] Erik: On May 27th, myself and a bunch of coureurs de bois are entering at Moudreau.
[0:46:27 – 0:46:29] Erik: Oh, and then I screwed up Moudreau.
[0:46:29 – 0:46:29] Erik: Moudreau?
[0:46:29 – 0:46:39] Erik: And then heading up to Crooked Lake while completing some historically significant science projects at pictograph sites and Table Rock.
[0:46:40 – 0:46:41] Erik: Tell me more.
[0:46:42 – 0:46:44] Erik: It looks like they are going to.
[0:46:44 – 0:46:47] Erik: While catching limits of walleye along the way.
[0:46:47 – 0:46:48] Erik: I love that he’s future planning.
[0:46:49 – 0:46:50] Erik: That’s great.
[0:46:51 – 0:46:56] Erik: We’ll loop back down through Friday Bay to complete our first post-quarantine trip of the year.
[0:46:57 – 0:47:03] Erik: After that, I have a solo outing planned for late June to find myself and more walleye.
[0:47:03 – 0:47:06] Erik: in the Horseshoe Lake area off the Gunflint Trail.
[0:47:07 – 0:47:16] Erik: This, of course, is all just a foreword to the real story that will unfold as the wife and I spend an extended period of time in the Quetico this August via the Prairie Portage.
[0:47:16 – 0:47:19] Erik: Portage?
[0:47:19 – 0:47:28] Erik: 2020 will be the first year we don’t dip our paddles in the waters of Wabakimi for a multi-week trip since the summer of 2016.
[0:47:28 – 0:47:31] Erik: Dang, Bird Doggin, I didn’t realize you were so Wabakimi-ish.
[0:47:32 – 0:47:34] Erik: Ooh, he’s super wabakimi.
[0:47:35 – 0:47:36] Erik: Super wabakimi.
[0:47:37 – 0:47:37] Erik: Ah, yes.
[0:47:38 – 0:47:47] Erik: And the fact that I know I’ll cherish every slippery portage and C-minus campsite I’ll encounter this year helps to ease this disappointment.
[0:47:48 – 0:47:52] Erik: Perspective is everything, and you don’t know what you have until it’s gone.
[0:47:54 – 0:47:58] Erik: So with that in mind, let’s make damn sure nothing happens at the BWCA.
[0:47:59 – 0:48:00] Erik: Talking about mining proposals here.
[0:48:01 – 0:48:03] Erik: Sign a petition.
[0:48:03 – 0:48:05] Erik: Donate your milk money.
[0:48:05 – 0:48:07] Erik: Contribute your time, talent, or treasure.
[0:48:07 – 0:48:08] Erik: It all helps.
[0:48:09 – 0:48:11] Erik: Okay, stepping up my soapbox now.
[0:48:11 – 0:48:18] Erik: In closing, enjoy the hell out of this paddling season and keep your bellies full, the round side down, and the wind at your back.
[0:48:19 – 0:48:21] Adam: Heck yeah, flipping and dipping, baby.
[0:48:21 – 0:48:23] Erik: Well said, Bird Doggin’ It.
[0:48:24 – 0:48:30] Erik: That was a little hint of we were talking last week about who you want to paddle with.
[0:48:31 – 0:48:35] Erik: I feel like if we were out there and Huntress Thompson kind of started getting in on a rant a little bit there.
[0:48:36 – 0:48:37] Erik: Yeah.
[0:48:39 – 0:48:48] Erik: Regardless of where you come down on anything, political, coronavirus, mining…
[0:48:49 – 0:48:52] Erik: I think the takeaway from that comment is just enjoy the hell out of it.
[0:48:53 – 0:49:05] Erik: This whole thing, this whole world we’re living in now is, in some ways, the dread has melted away into just a, I’m just going to enjoy everything as much as I possibly can because it’s all I can do.
[0:49:05 – 0:49:06] Erik: I can’t control anything.
[0:49:06 – 0:49:07] Adam: That’s all you can control.
[0:49:08 – 0:49:09] Adam: It’s exposed.
[0:49:09 – 0:49:14] Adam: You can’t control what other people are going to do or how they’re going to handle it, but you can control your own attitude.
[0:49:14 – 0:49:19] Erik: Yes, it has exposed the fickleness and the illusion of control.
[0:49:19 – 0:49:21] Erik: This is gone.
[0:49:21 – 0:49:38] Erik: I’m not saying that I no longer give an F, but it is almost brought to the front of my mind, just actually enjoying the experience for what it is and when we get to actually experience it.
[0:49:39 – 0:49:46] Erik: So if you do have the pleasure of getting out of the park, take Bird Dog and its words to heart because they are some solid words.
[0:49:46 – 0:49:47] Erik: Thanks, Bird Dog.
[0:49:47 – 0:49:50] Adam: What kind of science projects are you doing on picto sites?
[0:49:51 – 0:49:52] Adam: I want to know more about that.
[0:49:53 – 0:50:01] Erik: When we were hiking into Chesler Park 5 and I had that camera case and they thought we were scientists doing experiments.
[0:50:01 – 0:50:02] Adam: Now we’re studying.
[0:50:02 – 0:50:05] Adam: We’re studying the pictos and the Indians.
[0:50:07 – 0:50:09] Adam: We’re watching the sky for no reason.
[0:50:10 – 0:50:10] Adam: Don’t worry about it.
[0:50:10 – 0:50:14] Erik: We’re just going to watch this guy for 24 hours straight and see what happens.
[0:50:15 – 0:50:15] Erik: Yeah.
[0:50:15 – 0:50:17] Adam: Makes me miss the Table Rock, too.
[0:50:17 – 0:50:18] Adam: Oh, boy, the Table Rock.
[0:50:19 – 0:50:22] Adam: Next up on the show, Hot Dish.
[0:50:24 – 0:50:24] Adam: Four points.
[0:50:25 – 0:50:31] Adam: On May 23rd, I will be entering the BWCA via Entry Point 50, Cross Bay Lake.
[0:50:32 – 0:50:33] Adam: Group size is one.
[0:50:33 – 0:50:33] Adam: Nice.
[0:50:34 – 0:50:37] Adam: The plan is to navigate the Frost River solo.
[0:50:38 – 0:50:38] Erik: Ooh.
[0:50:38 – 0:50:38] Erik: Yeah.
[0:50:39 – 0:50:45] Adam: When I initially scheduled this trip, I was considering the Harry Lake PMA, seeking a new challenge and solitude.
[0:50:45 – 0:50:52] Adam: However, my recent discovery of the Tumble Home podcast has fast-tracked the Frost River route to the top of the list.
[0:50:52 – 0:50:53] Erik: Oh, no.
[0:50:53 – 0:50:55] Adam: Sounds like I will find both on this trip.
[0:50:55 – 0:50:56] Adam: You will.
[0:50:57 – 0:50:57] Adam: Awesome.
[0:50:58 – 0:50:59] Adam: So I’m glad to hear that.
[0:50:59 – 0:51:04] Erik: Yeah, I hope that everything that we have said and others as well…
[0:51:05 – 0:51:09] Adam: If I was doing a solo trip, I’d much rather do the Frost River than the Hairy Lake PMA.
[0:51:10 – 0:51:13] Adam: I think a PMA is best done with a friend.
[0:51:14 – 0:51:17] Erik: We talked about it on that PMA, how spooky it would be to be out there alone.
[0:51:18 – 0:51:22] Adam: The best size of group, the biggest group you would want in a PMA is two.
[0:51:22 – 0:51:25] Adam: The smallest size group you’d want is also two.
[0:51:25 – 0:51:27] Adam: It’s a strange one, those PMAs.
[0:51:27 – 0:51:29] Adam: But the Frost River is established enough.
[0:51:30 – 0:51:32] Adam: And you’re going to be just fine out there by yourself.
[0:51:32 – 0:51:33] Adam: I cannot wait.
[0:51:33 – 0:51:42] Adam: I hope we get to hear more about that trip because end of May in the Frost River, you will go with the flow.
[0:51:42 – 0:51:43] Erik: That’s about right now.
[0:51:43 – 0:51:45] Erik: You might be out there right now.
[0:51:45 – 0:51:47] Adam: Hot Dish is probably out on Bologna right now.
[0:51:47 – 0:51:49] Adam: Probably enjoying a nice Bologna dinner.
[0:51:52 – 0:51:54] Adam: I think it’s probably going to be magical.
[0:51:54 – 0:51:56] Erik: May 23rd, so tomorrow.
[0:51:56 – 0:51:58] Adam: Bologna dinner.
[0:51:59 – 0:52:01] Adam: Bologna for breakfast.
[0:52:01 – 0:52:02] Adam: Bologna for lunch.
[0:52:04 – 0:52:06] Erik: But alone for dinner too.
[0:52:07 – 0:52:07] Erik: Yeah.
[0:52:08 – 0:52:10] Erik: You can see my shoulders going.
[0:52:10 – 0:52:11] Erik: I can see your shoulders.
[0:52:11 – 0:52:12] Adam: So you know what I was doing.
[0:52:12 – 0:52:14] Adam: The listeners couldn’t see it, but they could feel it, I hope.
[0:52:15 – 0:52:16] Erik: I tried to hold off.
[0:52:16 – 0:52:20] Adam: Frost river, go with the flow.
[0:52:21 – 0:52:27] Erik: There needs to be a term for like podcasting time, like in the world we’re living in right now.
[0:52:28 – 0:52:30] Erik: Because the world that this podcast is going to live in
[0:52:32 – 0:52:34] Erik: hot dish has been on this trip essentially.
[0:52:35 – 0:52:35] Erik: Yeah.
[0:52:35 – 0:52:39] Erik: But like right now, this person is going out tomorrow.
[0:52:39 – 0:52:39] Adam: Yeah.
[0:52:40 – 0:52:42] Erik: And that’s like very cool and interesting.
[0:52:42 – 0:52:44] Erik: I’m excited for a hot dish.
[0:52:44 – 0:52:48] Erik: It kind of goes away a little bit as the time like progresses.
[0:52:48 – 0:52:49] Erik: Yeah.
[0:52:49 – 0:52:50] Erik: I’m overthinking it now.
[0:52:51 – 0:52:52] Erik: Base Camp North.
[0:52:52 – 0:52:52] Erik: I like this.
[0:52:53 – 0:52:53] Erik: Simple.
[0:52:54 – 0:52:54] Erik: Plans.
[0:52:54 – 0:52:55] Erik: Thinking.
[0:52:55 – 0:52:56] Erik: Excited for.
[0:52:56 – 0:52:57] Erik: Three lines.
[0:52:57 – 0:52:58] Erik: Plans.
[0:52:58 – 0:53:00] Erik: Explore the outer Clearwater Lake area.
[0:53:01 – 0:53:04] Erik: Thinking about the minute we finally turn onto the Gunflint Trail.
[0:53:05 – 0:53:10] Erik: Excited for seeing the stars through that fresh Northwood’s air.
[0:53:10 – 0:53:11] Adam: Isn’t it always about that air, though?
[0:53:12 – 0:53:13] Adam: Yeah.
[0:53:13 – 0:53:18] Adam: It’s always when I first started coming up here, the thing I missed the most was the air.
[0:53:18 – 0:53:21] Erik: Yeah, you don’t notice how much you miss it until it’s gone.
[0:53:21 – 0:53:24] Adam: No, I’m just in it all the time, and I take it for granted.
[0:53:24 – 0:53:27] Adam: But my hair looks so good, though.
[0:53:27 – 0:53:30] Erik: Well, it’s just because nobody’s around to cut it.
[0:53:31 – 0:53:34] Adam: I cut my own hair, so, you know, I’m okay with all that.
[0:53:34 – 0:53:35] Erik: Well, I don’t.
[0:53:36 – 0:53:37] Erik: I only can do the professional.
[0:53:37 – 0:53:38] Adam: I’ll cut your hair for you, Eric.
[0:53:38 – 0:53:40] Erik: No, I don’t trust you.
[0:53:40 – 0:53:40] Adam: I am a professional.
[0:53:40 – 0:53:42] SPEAKER_00: I’ve seen your haircuts.
[0:53:42 – 0:53:44] Adam: Yeah, but I can’t see what’s going on.
[0:53:45 – 0:53:46] Adam: I have a knack for it.
[0:53:46 – 0:53:48] Adam: Maybe that’ll be my third career.
[0:53:49 – 0:53:50] Adam: Hairdresser.
[0:53:50 – 0:53:50] Erik: Yeah.
[0:53:51 – 0:53:51] Adam: No.
[0:53:51 – 0:53:52] Adam: Stylist.
[0:53:52 – 0:53:53] Adam: Stylist.
[0:53:53 – 0:53:53] Adam: Yes.
[0:53:53 – 0:53:54] Erik: Barber.
[0:53:55 – 0:53:58] Erik: Barber, where there’s just a room of people that can hang out even if they’re not getting there.
[0:53:58 – 0:53:59] Adam: I’m too serious to be a barber.
[0:53:59 – 0:54:00] Adam: I’m a stylist for sure.
[0:54:00 – 0:54:01] Erik: Well, no.
[0:54:01 – 0:54:08] Erik: The barbers, they just have their rooms with a bunch of other old men who are not getting their hair cut, but they’re just talking about current events.
[0:54:08 – 0:54:11] Adam: I’d much rather be a bartender than a barber.
[0:54:12 – 0:54:13] Erik: Yeah, maybe.
[0:54:13 – 0:54:16] Erik: You’d definitely meet more new and interesting people.
[0:54:16 – 0:54:19] Adam: I really just want to have a bar that also serves breakfast food.
[0:54:19 – 0:54:20] Erik: Well, don’t divulge.
[0:54:21 – 0:54:21] Erik: That’s the secret.
[0:54:22 – 0:54:24] Erik: Well, go ahead and try it.
[0:54:24 – 0:54:25] Erik: The Yolkin Brew?
[0:54:26 – 0:54:27] Adam: There it is.
[0:54:27 – 0:54:28] Adam: It’s on the open.
[0:54:28 – 0:54:31] Adam: Well, you know, now it’s copyrighted, so go ahead and try it.
[0:54:31 – 0:54:35] Erik: We have discussed that anything spoken on a podcast… That’s legally…
[0:54:35 – 0:54:37] Erik: Legally binding in perpetuity.
[0:54:38 – 0:54:39] Adam: Jacob Backer is in on the show.
[0:54:39 – 0:54:40] Adam: Three points.
[0:54:40 – 0:54:48] Erik: Wait, we should say Jacob Backer is the creator of the first ever Our Tumble Homecast meme.
[0:54:48 – 0:54:49] Adam: Yeah, absolutely.
[0:54:50 – 0:54:51] Adam: And Fantasy Boundary Waters.
[0:54:51 – 0:54:53] Adam: Yes, which we didn’t get to.
[0:54:53 – 0:54:54] Adam: Which is still in beta testing.
[0:54:55 – 0:54:58] Erik: That will be a winter 2020, the darkest winter of all.
[0:54:59 – 0:55:00] Erik: We will get into that.
[0:55:00 – 0:55:01] Adam: The long winter.
[0:55:01 – 0:55:02] Erik: The long winter.
[0:55:02 – 0:55:02] Adam: 2020.
[0:55:03 – 0:55:08] Erik: Yeah, Jacob made the first Tumble Homecast meme, which is pretty great, actually.
[0:55:08 – 0:55:08] Erik: Yeah.
[0:55:09 – 0:55:09] Erik: Bobby?
[0:55:09 – 0:55:13] Erik: If you’re not on the subreddit, you’ll have to go to our Tumble Homecast to see the fun meme.
[0:55:13 – 0:55:13] Erik: Check it out.
[0:55:15 – 0:55:39] Adam: all right jacob’s in we’re taking baby boy out on his first postpartum canoe trip adventure today might try to hit large creek or maybe just do the easy direct drop into the east side of brule if the wind stays down he just hit the six month mark so our theme for this year will definitely be day trips and one-nighters with him to earn our paddling parents badge lots to figure out on that front
[0:55:40 – 0:55:47] Adam: We were working on one big fishing trip out of the South Arm of Knife in September with some friends from back in Nebraska.
[0:55:48 – 0:55:48] Adam: Mrs.
[0:55:48 – 0:55:50] Adam: Friend has been coming up here since she was a kid, and Mr.
[0:55:50 – 0:55:56] Adam: Friend, while big into fly fishing trips in Canada, has never been to the Boundary Waters.
[0:55:57 – 0:56:01] Adam: It’s shaping up to be a great year of introducing a couple of new enthusiasts to our favorite spot.
[0:56:02 – 0:56:03] Adam: We couldn’t be more excited.
[0:56:05 – 0:56:05] Adam: Update!
[0:56:06 – 0:56:07] Adam: Do-do-do-do-do!
[0:56:07 – 0:56:10] Adam: Baby boy’s first trip to Clearwater campsite number one.
[0:56:10 – 0:56:11] Adam: Beautiful evening.
[0:56:12 – 0:56:12] Erik: All right.
[0:56:13 – 0:56:13] Erik: Nice.
[0:56:13 – 0:56:15] Erik: Well, I wonder when that happened.
[0:56:16 – 0:56:16] Erik: Awesome.
[0:56:17 – 0:56:20] Erik: Sometime in the last six days, apparently.
[0:56:23 – 0:56:28] Erik: Yeah, and thanks to everybody on the support on this subreddit.
[0:56:28 – 0:56:30] Erik: Again, we wouldn’t be there without you.
[0:56:31 – 0:56:36] Adam: I love hearing about babies getting in the canoes because I wasn’t allowed in a boat until I was 10.
[0:56:36 – 0:56:38] Adam: Dang.
[0:56:39 – 0:56:40] Erik: Adam, get out of the boat.
[0:56:40 – 0:56:41] Erik: Get out of the boat.
[0:56:41 – 0:56:42] Erik: You’re just sitting in the yard.
[0:56:42 – 0:56:43] Erik: You’re going to stress the guttles.
[0:56:44 – 0:56:46] Erik: Leave the tumble home out of it.
[0:56:47 – 0:56:47] Erik: I’ll read it.
[0:56:48 – 0:56:50] Erik: Stress the tumble home.
[0:56:50 – 0:56:52] Erik: Do you got a mouth full of words in you?
[0:56:53 – 0:56:55] Erik: Because I’ll read the next two if you want to do C-stroke.
[0:56:56 – 0:56:56] Adam: Yeah, I don’t know.
[0:56:56 – 0:57:01] Adam: Somehow I’m almost all the way through this nice Coglins beer, which may or may not be 20%.
[0:57:02 – 0:57:03] Erik: Oh, it’s not 1-0.
[0:57:03 – 0:57:04] Erik: It’s 0-1.
[0:57:04 – 0:57:05] Erik: Oh, that’s fine.
[0:57:05 – 0:57:06] Erik: That’s why I can still read.
[0:57:06 – 0:57:07] Adam: It’s 1% alcohol.
[0:57:07 – 0:57:09] SPEAKER_00: Coglins!
[0:57:09 – 0:57:09] Adam: Yeah, no.
[0:57:09 – 0:57:15] Adam: I think my readers are working right now, so I can take the big one.
[0:57:15 – 0:57:16] Erik: I can take the big one.
[0:57:16 – 0:57:17] Erik: Hopalicious.
[0:57:17 – 0:57:18] Erik: Thank you, Hopalicious.
[0:57:18 – 0:57:26] Erik: Sorry that I confused you for Rojo Rider a couple weeks ago with the run up to Connippy and the man or the falls chain.
[0:57:26 – 0:57:32] Erik: But, you know, the plan is to enter at Woodlake, paddle through Wood and Hula to Goodlake.
[0:57:33 – 0:57:34] Erik: Those CCC guys.
[0:57:35 – 0:57:35] Erik: Gosh.
[0:57:36 – 0:57:39] Erik: Possible side trips to Basswood and Indiana.
[0:57:40 – 0:57:42] Erik: I think Wood to Good has a nice ring to it.
[0:57:42 – 0:57:43] Erik: It sure as heck does.
[0:57:43 – 0:57:44] Erik: Yeah, it does, actually.
[0:57:44 – 0:57:45] Erik: I take it back.
[0:57:47 – 0:57:54] Erik: Croy Paddler, unless something unexpected happens, I am going to take a trip off from the BWCA.
[0:57:55 – 0:58:01] Erik: Instead, I am hoping to take advantage of some long weekends to cross off some bucket list river trips around the upper Midwest.
[0:58:02 – 0:58:09] Erik: I plan to save some PTO, buy myself a Kevlar canoe, and plan something awesome in the BWCA for next year.
[0:58:09 – 0:58:09] Erik: All right, you got me.
[0:58:10 – 0:58:11] Adam: Nothing wrong with deferring.
[0:58:11 – 0:58:13] Erik: I’m back on board, Croy Paddler.
[0:58:13 – 0:58:14] Adam: I assume you’re going to the Croy.
[0:58:15 – 0:58:16] Erik: Yeah, I was a little disappointed right away.
[0:58:16 – 0:58:18] Adam: You’re going to do a nice cry trip.
[0:58:18 – 0:58:19] Adam: That’s totally fine.
[0:58:19 – 0:58:23] Erik: If that’s what you can turn taking a year off into, more power to you.
[0:58:24 – 0:58:25] Erik: And yeah, I mean.
[0:58:25 – 0:58:26] Erik: Flip and dip, baby.
[0:58:27 – 0:58:32] Erik: It might be one of those years where staying a little bit closer to home is just going to make the most sense.
[0:58:33 – 0:58:35] Adam: C, stroke.
[0:58:36 – 0:58:36] Adam: Three points.
[0:58:38 – 0:58:42] Adam: I’m planning a June trip with five people, two canoes and two dogs.
[0:58:43 – 0:58:50] Adam: We’re going in at Entry Point 19, Stewart River, and we’ll be dropping a car at Entry Point 16, Nina Moose River.
[0:58:50 – 0:58:56] Adam: From Stewart Lake, we’ll paddle up the Dahlgren River and make our way to Lac La Croix.
[0:58:57 – 0:59:03] Adam: We plan the day trip to the pictographs by Warrior Hill, as well as head to Iron Lake to see Curtain Falls.
[0:59:03 – 0:59:08] Adam: Days will be filled with fishing, hammock reading, and a fervent devotion to morning coffee.
[0:59:09 – 0:59:10] Adam: Huzzah, huzzah.
[0:59:11 – 0:59:16] Adam: This year marks my fourth decade of going to the Boundary Waters, and I’ve been reflecting on this.
[0:59:17 – 0:59:20] Adam: Growing up in my family, you were allowed to come on your first trip at the age of five.
[0:59:20 – 0:59:21] Adam: Five?
[0:59:21 – 0:59:21] Adam: Wow.
[0:59:22 – 0:59:24] Adam: I just said I wasn’t allowed to go until 10.
[0:59:24 – 0:59:24] Erik: Yeah?
[0:59:24 – 0:59:26] Adam: I was with my family.
[0:59:26 – 0:59:27] Erik: Everybody’s different.
[0:59:27 – 0:59:28] Erik: I was a teenager before I went.
[0:59:28 – 0:59:30] Adam: Also, I wasn’t very good in a boat.
[0:59:30 – 0:59:31] Erik: You were squirrely?
[0:59:32 – 0:59:33] Erik: Well, maybe a little.
[0:59:33 – 0:59:35] Erik: Chased a lure after dad cast?
[0:59:35 – 0:59:37] Adam: I may have hooked a few people, all right?
[0:59:37 – 0:59:38] Adam: So what?
[0:59:38 – 0:59:38] Adam: What?
[0:59:41 – 0:59:42] Adam: Back to Seastroke’s story.
[0:59:43 – 0:59:53] Adam: Although I don’t remember much about these early adventures, there are many pictures of my siblings and I scampering around camp barefoot and catching leech lockers on portages in our trusty Wrangler jeans.
[0:59:54 – 1:00:00] Adam: Throughout childhood and into my teens, I thought everyone went to the Boundary Waters, and it didn’t stand out to me as anything special.
[1:00:01 – 1:00:07] Adam: During my college years, I started going on trips with friends, significant others, and guiding camp groups.
[1:00:07 – 1:00:12] Adam: The angsty transitional years of my 20s led to angsty feelings during trips.
[1:00:13 – 1:00:18] Adam: I spent way too much mental space on breakups and negative energy.
[1:00:18 – 1:00:26] Adam: Although I always assured parents and myself I was in control, a few challenging situations tested my responsiveness.
[1:00:26 – 1:00:30] Adam: Luckily, nothing life-threatening ever happened, and I cut my teeth in the process.
[1:00:32 – 1:00:33] Adam: Thank you for the podcast.
[1:00:33 – 1:00:33] Adam: Yes.
[1:01:02 – 1:01:03] Erik: Seastroke.
[1:01:04 – 1:01:04] Erik: Well said.
[1:01:05 – 1:01:22] Erik: I can sympathize with all of that and the growth that occurs in the experiences had within the Boundary Waters and then who you have them with and what you bring to it.
[1:01:23 – 1:01:24] SPEAKER_00: And I think that’s
[1:01:25 – 1:01:30] Erik: Kind of the underlying beauty of the park is it’s like anything.
[1:01:31 – 1:01:37] Erik: It’s not a standalone thing that cleanses you of who you are as a person.
[1:01:38 – 1:01:41] Erik: You’re still going to bring some of that angsty energy.
[1:01:41 – 1:01:44] Erik: Maybe where you’re coming from even the day before.
[1:01:45 – 1:01:48] Erik: What your overall mindset is.
[1:01:49 – 1:01:53] Erik: And it’s nice to be able to move through that.
[1:01:54 – 1:02:00] Erik: Those transitional moments in your life, but always keeping the Boundary Waters there.
[1:02:01 – 1:02:15] Erik: And then still having those memories, which are usually some of the more crystal ones, that help you actually look back on those times and associate with the Boundary Waters, but also how you were feeling at the time.
[1:02:16 – 1:02:17] Adam: Yeah, for sure.
[1:02:17 – 1:02:26] Adam: I mean, I’ve been doing trips in the park long enough now it’s like there’s like different versions of me that I have memories of like in the park.
[1:02:26 – 1:02:26] Erik: Yeah.
[1:02:26 – 1:02:27] Adam: If that makes sense.
[1:02:28 – 1:02:28] Erik: Oh, for sure.
[1:02:28 – 1:02:33] Adam: And that’s that’s kind of what it’s a neat way to like kind of like have this level on your life.
[1:02:34 – 1:02:36] Adam: The park’s always the same, but you are not.
[1:02:37 – 1:02:40] Adam: Space and time are always moving.
[1:02:41 – 1:02:44] Adam: It is neat to think back on those real old trips.
[1:02:45 – 1:02:46] Adam: Who was I back then?
[1:02:46 – 1:02:49] Adam: What the hell was that all about?
[1:02:49 – 1:03:16] Adam: minutes yeah exactly like you know you know it’s look how and look how far we’ve come yeah like that’s awesome to see too you know going out in the canoe country like you test your skills and i think on every trip we learn something but uh yeah as the trips like accumulate over your life then you can like truly see that kind of uh fundamental change yeah you have it’s so uh it’s so nice to feel
[1:03:16 – 1:03:31] Erik: It’s another deep intangible to the park that I think it kind of borders on having to be somebody who does it consistently enough.
[1:03:31 – 1:03:36] Erik: But it’s tough if you want to measure yourself now against who you used to be.
[1:03:37 – 1:03:47] Erik: It takes a memory that is very clear that you can look back on and draw on to really, at least in my opinion, do it easily.
[1:03:47 – 1:03:51] Erik: Yeah, you can do it if you want to sit down and meditate on your life.
[1:03:52 – 1:03:56] Erik: But the Banjo Waters does make it a little bit easier because I feel like those memories are so…
[1:03:57 – 1:03:59] Erik: They’re already so…
[1:03:59 – 1:04:00] Adam: They’re white hot.
[1:04:00 – 1:04:04] Erik: They’re so white hot and clear in terms of where you were coming from.
[1:04:04 – 1:04:09] Adam: Yeah, why do you remember Day in the Boundary Letters so vividly?
[1:04:09 – 1:04:11] Erik: Yeah, I mean, we’ve talked about this off and on.
[1:04:11 – 1:04:16] Adam: I can’t remember what kind of bologna sandwich I had for lunch yesterday.
[1:04:16 – 1:04:16] Adam: Yeah.
[1:04:17 – 1:04:18] Adam: Was it a Santa Fe bologna?
[1:04:19 – 1:04:20] Adam: Was it a Fiesta bologna?
[1:04:21 – 1:04:22] Erik: It was Santa Fe.
[1:04:22 – 1:04:25] Erik: Yeah, and I can go back and think of every meal.
[1:04:25 – 1:04:36] Adam: But we can go back through a trip we did five years ago and remember what we had for dinner that night on that trip and what kind of wood we had on the fire and where exactly I set the hammock.
[1:04:36 – 1:04:41] Adam: We went back to a campsite the other day, and I was like, yeah, oh, I remember now.
[1:04:41 – 1:04:44] Adam: I had my hammock directly in these two trees.
[1:04:44 – 1:04:45] Adam: It had been eight years.
[1:04:46 – 1:04:49] Erik: Yeah, and that’s the thing that we talk about a lot.
[1:04:49 – 1:05:07] Erik: But like the one thing that C stroke, C underscore stroke, kind of brings up that you don’t think about as much is how you can also use those, the resonance, the clear resonance of those memories to actually measure how you’ve like changed as a person.
[1:05:07 – 1:05:11] Erik: Because you can really look back on those memories and just like remember like,
[1:05:11 – 1:05:20] Erik: who you were as a person much more than you could if you’re just like, well, I don’t know, five years ago, what was I doing?
[1:05:20 – 1:05:26] Erik: But if you think about a trip five years ago, then those memories of like, oh, I remember planning it with this person.
[1:05:26 – 1:05:26] Erik: Exactly.
[1:05:26 – 1:05:28] Erik: whatever happened to that guy?
[1:05:28 – 1:05:31] Erik: Or boy, why did I ever think that that was a good thing to bring?
[1:05:31 – 1:05:33] Erik: Or I was super into it.
[1:05:34 – 1:05:38] Erik: Like, why was that in the forefront of my mind?
[1:05:38 – 1:05:39] Erik: I remember not having as good of a time.
[1:05:39 – 1:05:46] Erik: And then like all of these, it just brings to the forefront so many other memories associated with your life at the time.
[1:05:47 – 1:05:54] Erik: It’s just one of the more like subdued positives, I feel like, that taking Boundary Waters trips brings to the equation.
[1:05:54 – 1:05:56] Adam: Yeah, it’s like a gravity well of memory.
[1:05:57 – 1:05:57] Adam: Yeah.
[1:05:57 – 1:05:59] Adam: Like a very dense rock in your mind.
[1:05:59 – 1:05:59] Erik: Yeah.
[1:06:00 – 1:06:07] Adam: And then, yeah, once you start on that one memory, then everything else that was around it at the time kind of swirls in on you.
[1:06:08 – 1:06:13] Adam: It makes it easier to remember and then also to learn maybe.
[1:06:14 – 1:06:15] Erik: Yeah, no, I love that about it.
[1:06:15 – 1:06:16] Erik: It’s great.
[1:06:17 – 1:06:22] Erik: We’ve not really ever had a conversation like that, but I think everybody understands it.
[1:06:22 – 1:06:22] Erik: Yeah.
[1:06:23 – 1:06:25] Erik: It’s one of those things that…
[1:06:25 – 1:06:27] Adam: I feel the same way just by looking at a map.
[1:06:27 – 1:06:28] Adam: Yeah.
[1:06:28 – 1:06:31] Adam: All the different memories that you can stir up by looking at a map.
[1:06:32 – 1:06:34] Erik: Yeah, and that’s, I mean, I think everybody…
[1:06:34 – 1:06:39] Adam: It’s just a piece of paper, but it’s a useful instrument to, like, open your mind again.
[1:06:39 – 1:06:41] Erik: Yeah, it’s like, what’s the…
[1:06:43 – 1:06:43] Erik: I’m dropping the ball now.
[1:06:43 – 1:06:46] Erik: What’s the thing in the Harry Potter?
[1:06:46 – 1:06:46] Erik: The little…
[1:06:46 – 1:06:47] Erik: The pensive.
[1:06:47 – 1:06:47] Erik: The pensive.
[1:06:47 – 1:06:48] Erik: Yeah, the pensive.
[1:06:48 – 1:06:49] Erik: It’s a flat pensive.
[1:06:49 – 1:06:51] Erik: Uh…
[1:06:52 – 1:06:52] Erik: All right.
[1:06:53 – 1:06:54] Erik: That was a fun conversation.
[1:06:54 – 1:06:56] Adam: McPadlin is in next on the show.
[1:06:56 – 1:06:57] Adam: Two points.
[1:06:58 – 1:07:00] Adam: First trip of the year is planned to depart on the 18th.
[1:07:00 – 1:07:09] Adam: This year is big for me as I’ll be christening a brand new Northwind 18 and a brand new canoe paddle I made from raw materials in my garage.
[1:07:10 – 1:07:10] Erik: Whew.
[1:07:12 – 1:07:15] Erik: Whew, raw materials just laying around.
[1:07:15 – 1:07:18] Adam: A blade of a shovel and some badminton rackets.
[1:07:18 – 1:07:23] Adam: Also, I’m introducing someone new to the park, and I can’t wait to see how he enjoys it.
[1:07:23 – 1:07:27] Adam: We were putting in an EP25, heading up to Knife for seven days.
[1:07:27 – 1:07:30] Adam: You can go out here and get with that trip, McPadlin.
[1:07:31 – 1:07:38] Adam: Quite the nail-biter leading us up to now from COVID forcing stay-at-home orders and park closures.
[1:07:39 – 1:07:58] Adam: but thank god with a little time to spare it’s all coming together ps tv hinted who this is we slapped the bag on duncan this winter oh dear oh yeah i remember i responded i slapped so many bags of wine that really doesn’t narrow it down for hd mayo but uh i’m pretty sure we know who that is now
[1:07:58 – 1:08:03] Erik: I was also kind of surprised now that this subreddit is a thing.
[1:08:04 – 1:08:08] Erik: Every turn of this podcast is so surprising and weird.
[1:08:08 – 1:08:12] Erik: But I apparently mentioned on the last show that HD stands for heavy duty.
[1:08:12 – 1:08:15] Erik: And there were multiple people that were like, I swear it would have stood for…
[1:08:16 – 1:08:17] Erik: High definition.
[1:08:17 – 1:08:19] Adam: Yeah, well, that’s what you would think.
[1:08:19 – 1:08:22] Adam: No, it’s… HD, SD, you know, we live in the 2020s now.
[1:08:22 – 1:08:26] Erik: Yeah, no, it’s the high-grade…
[1:08:26 – 1:08:29] Adam: High-density stuff that you find in, like, the back of a Perkins.
[1:08:29 – 1:08:30] Adam: Whip those egg whites.
[1:08:30 – 1:08:33] Erik: Yeah, the stuff that you can, like, make a pinata out of.
[1:08:33 – 1:08:34] Erik: Oof.
[1:08:34 – 1:08:35] Adam: I would love to see…
[1:08:35 – 1:08:39] Adam: I’d love to take, like, a Mr. Rogers-esque tour of an HD mayo factory.
[1:08:39 – 1:08:40] Adam: Ooh, yeah.
[1:08:40 – 1:08:43] Adam: I want to see what kind of whisks are we talking about.
[1:08:44 – 1:09:09] Erik: industrial grade to be sure boom yeah we’re not getting in that uh dang it anyways we’ve exceeded the one hour mark yep that’s fine we’re fine there are comments to be read blow underscore zephyr condolences i don’t know it seemed like there was maybe some things that uh happened you’re here because we’re here and we’re here because you’re here thanks for being here blow underscore zephyr
[1:09:10 – 1:09:13] Adam: This is the hottest new subreddit on all of Reddit.
[1:09:13 – 1:09:14] Adam: Tumblehomecast.
[1:09:15 – 1:09:16] Erik: At gmail.com.
[1:09:16 – 1:09:17] Erik: Or Tumblehomecast.
[1:09:17 – 1:09:23] Adam: Only the coolest of the cool cats and kittens are down here at Tumblehomecast Reddit.
[1:09:23 – 1:09:29] Erik: We have to get enough posts on the subreddit so that when you go to it, you don’t see the blank space.
[1:09:30 – 1:09:31] Erik: Because that’s always kind of sad.
[1:09:31 – 1:09:32] Erik: What does that take?
[1:09:32 – 1:09:35] Erik: Probably another like 10 posts.
[1:09:35 – 1:09:36] Adam: I’ll post a few memes tomorrow.
[1:09:36 – 1:09:37] Erik: Make more memes.
[1:09:38 – 1:09:39] Adam: I can do a meme.
[1:09:39 – 1:09:40] Adam: Can I just post doodles?
[1:09:40 – 1:09:43] Adam: I’ll have to get an Uyghur account or something.
[1:09:43 – 1:09:44] Erik: Yeah, it’s a free-for-all.
[1:09:44 – 1:09:46] Adam: Jesus, I’ve never posted on Reddit.
[1:09:46 – 1:09:46] Adam: How do you do this?
[1:09:47 – 1:09:49] Adam: How do any of you comment on this site?
[1:09:50 – 1:09:52] Erik: Like one of the two members of Tumblr.
[1:09:52 – 1:09:55] Adam: Yeah, I’m a mod and I don’t even know how to post.
[1:09:55 – 1:09:56] Adam: I haven’t made you a mod.
[1:09:56 – 1:09:57] Erik: You haven’t proven yourself.
[1:09:57 – 1:09:57] Erik: What?
[1:09:58 – 1:09:59] Adam: I am an expert at memes.
[1:10:01 – 1:10:02] Erik: All right.
[1:10:02 – 1:10:04] Adam: Anyways, I’ll figure it out.
[1:10:04 – 1:10:06] Adam: And then I’ll start posting memes.
[1:10:06 – 1:10:07] Adam: You guys will see.
[1:10:08 – 1:10:09] Erik: You guys will see.
[1:10:09 – 1:10:09] Erik: Yeah, you’ll see.
[1:10:09 – 1:10:10] Erik: You’ll see.
[1:10:10 – 1:10:10] Erik: You’ll see.
[1:10:10 – 1:10:11] Erik: I’ll show you.
[1:10:11 – 1:10:12] Adam: I’ll show you.
[1:10:13 – 1:10:14] Erik: We’ve been playing Wait and See.
[1:10:14 – 1:10:15] Erik: Yeah.
[1:10:15 – 1:10:16] Erik: TBD.
[1:10:16 – 1:10:17] Adam: That’s also called TBD.
[1:10:18 – 1:10:22] Erik: It’s been one of those things at Clearwater, like the phones were dead.
[1:10:22 – 1:10:26] Erik: And then when they announced, yeah, things are going to open up, it’s just been insane.
[1:10:26 – 1:10:27] Adam: Grab a grabs.
[1:10:28 – 1:10:28] Erik: Anyway.
[1:10:29 – 1:10:35] Erik: But now that the overnight camping and fire ban have been lifted, we just booked a permit for Seagull over Memorial Day week.
[1:10:36 – 1:10:38] Erik: Looking forward to exploring some new water.
[1:10:39 – 1:10:39] Erik: Nice.
[1:10:40 – 1:10:43] Erik: New additions to the gear bag this year are a couple of Helinox chairs.
[1:10:45 – 1:10:45] Adam: You did good.
[1:10:46 – 1:10:47] Erik: You did good, blow zephyr.
[1:10:47 – 1:10:48] Erik: You done good.
[1:10:48 – 1:10:51] Erik: Those are going to be invaluable or valuable.
[1:10:52 – 1:10:52] Erik: I don’t know.
[1:10:52 – 1:10:56] Erik: They’re going to be quintessential to the rest of your camping experience.
[1:10:56 – 1:10:59] Erik: I don’t even sit on those benches, those bobby benches anymore.
[1:10:59 – 1:11:00] Erik: I’m all Helinox.
[1:11:00 – 1:11:02] Adam: I still like to sit on the bench a little.
[1:11:03 – 1:11:04] Adam: Depends on what you’re doing.
[1:11:05 – 1:11:08] Adam: Yeah, you know, that also brings me back a little bit.
[1:11:08 – 1:11:15] Erik: If you’re prepping breakfast or doing dinner cut-ups and you’re tense and you’re hovering over a cutting board or something, yeah, sure.
[1:11:16 – 1:11:19] Adam: I can’t dice an onion for heck on a healing axe.
[1:11:19 – 1:11:21] Adam: I’ve got to be sitting on the bobby bench all day.
[1:11:21 – 1:11:25] Erik: The Helinox chairs are the first camp chairs of any kind for Blow Zephyr.
[1:11:26 – 1:11:28] Erik: And a new and improved depth finder.
[1:11:28 – 1:11:28] Erik: Ooh.
[1:11:28 – 1:11:30] Erik: So we can get skunked in style.
[1:11:30 – 1:11:30] Erik: There you go.
[1:11:30 – 1:11:31] Erik: Yeah.
[1:11:31 – 1:11:32] Adam: Exactly.
[1:11:32 – 1:11:33] Adam: I don’t know why we got skunked.
[1:11:33 – 1:11:34] Adam: We marked a lot of fish.
[1:11:34 – 1:11:35] Erik: Oh, I love that.
[1:11:35 – 1:11:36] Erik: That’s exactly.
[1:11:36 – 1:11:38] Erik: That’s one of my- True words were ne’er spoke.
[1:11:39 – 1:11:40] Erik: That’s one of my favorite like-
[1:11:40 – 1:11:43] Erik: It’s not, I’m not like, I don’t laugh at people.
[1:11:43 – 1:11:43] Erik: It’s not mean.
[1:11:44 – 1:11:45] Erik: It’s just such a funny thing.
[1:11:45 – 1:11:46] Adam: Like, we were marking fish.
[1:11:46 – 1:11:47] Erik: We were marking them all over.
[1:11:47 – 1:11:47] Erik: Marking fish.
[1:11:47 – 1:11:49] Erik: It’s like, yeah, all right.
[1:11:49 – 1:11:51] Erik: Again, it’s not me being mean.
[1:11:51 – 1:11:57] Erik: It’s just so funny that that’s like, well, when people come back skunked, they love to say, we were marking fish.
[1:11:57 – 1:11:58] Erik: We were marking them.
[1:11:58 – 1:11:59] Erik: To like, we could see them.
[1:11:59 – 1:12:00] Erik: Yeah.
[1:12:00 – 1:12:00] Erik: But.
[1:12:01 – 1:12:02] Erik: So they were there.
[1:12:02 – 1:12:09] Erik: I’d rather, like, if you’re really truly trying to, like, cover your tracks for being, like, not catching fish, you would just be like, oh, there’s just nothing there.
[1:12:09 – 1:12:10] Erik: Didn’t see anything.
[1:12:11 – 1:12:11] Erik: We’re marking them.
[1:12:12 – 1:12:12] Adam: They were there.
[1:12:12 – 1:12:13] Adam: There’s a new moon.
[1:12:13 – 1:12:13] Adam: Nothing we could do.
[1:12:14 – 1:12:15] Adam: Couldn’t, I don’t know.
[1:12:15 – 1:12:17] Adam: They didn’t want to hit the number three maps.
[1:12:17 – 1:12:23] Erik: It’s like a super subtle, like, somebody should do, like, what’s the, like.
[1:12:23 – 1:12:25] Adam: The thermocline was too deep.
[1:12:25 – 1:12:26] Adam: Spinal tail.
[1:12:26 – 1:12:26] Adam: I don’t know.
[1:12:26 – 1:12:27] Adam: You know, we were marking them.
[1:12:27 – 1:12:29] Adam: We just, we didn’t bring lead core line.
[1:12:29 – 1:12:35] Erik: Yeah, Spinal Tap, like, best in show, Christopher Guest-style parody on, like, a fishing movie like that.
[1:12:35 – 1:12:38] Erik: That would be, like, a really pretty good joke, I think.
[1:12:38 – 1:12:40] Erik: Marking them, just not picking them up.
[1:12:41 – 1:12:43] Adam: You know, they weren’t feeling it.
[1:12:46 – 1:13:14] Erik: Smooth operator Disregard the I always go sorry What are you always scrolling on me for Well because you’re looking at the cursor But I scroll you to like the top I see what you’re doing here now We should have gotten on the same page Episode 100 we’re still not on the same page You have never changed the way you operate I just I cannot grasp it I always am like alright I’m the second one down here now How many more do we got to go here Who knows I don’t know we gotta take a break
[1:13:14 – 1:13:15] Erik: What?
[1:13:15 – 1:13:16] Erik: Now you want to do a break?
[1:13:16 – 1:13:17] Adam: Yeah, I want to do a break.
[1:13:17 – 1:13:18] Adam: All right, fine.
[1:13:18 – 1:13:19] Adam: We’re doing a break.
[1:13:19 – 1:13:21] Adam: I got to stretch my legs.
[1:13:21 – 1:13:24] Adam: All right.
[1:13:25 – 1:13:29] Adam: Well, thank you for granting the motion for a break.
[1:13:30 – 1:13:31] Adam: My Coghlan’s beer is empty.
[1:13:32 – 1:13:41] Adam: And according to the scientist, I can’t even read anymore because we’re over an hour and I drank that thing, which is a 30% Eddie line.
[1:13:44 – 1:13:44] Erik: 30%.
[1:13:46 – 1:13:49] Adam: You can’t trust those Coglins to label their beer properly.
[1:13:49 – 1:13:51] Erik: They have a different brewer in there every day of the week.
[1:13:52 – 1:13:54] Adam: Tyson, master of none.
[1:13:54 – 1:13:55] Adam: Two points.
[1:13:55 – 1:14:04] Adam: My group consisting of my father, brother from Texas, and brother-in-law from the cities are planning a mid-June Brule to Winchell base camp with day trips.
[1:14:05 – 1:14:08] Adam: It will be our second annual trip of hopefully many more to come.
[1:14:09 – 1:14:13] Adam: We chose Winchell based off of one of your earlier Campsite Review episodes.
[1:14:14 – 1:14:14] Adam: Nice.
[1:14:16 – 1:14:19] Adam: So any tips or tricks to the lake would be awesome.
[1:14:20 – 1:14:21] Adam: Never tried fishing for lakers.
[1:14:21 – 1:14:22] Adam: Was going to give it a go.
[1:14:23 – 1:14:26] Adam: Hit me up if you got a spot on the lake or surrounding lakes.
[1:14:26 – 1:14:31] Adam: I try my best to make the best of the trip for the guys that don’t have this in their backyard.
[1:14:32 – 1:14:36] Adam: Yeah, well, you know, the key on Winchell is…
[1:14:37 – 1:14:37] Erik: When?
[1:14:38 – 1:14:39] Erik: Oh, mid-June?
[1:14:39 – 1:14:40] Adam: Mid-June.
[1:14:40 – 1:14:41] Adam: Yeah, mid-June?
[1:14:41 – 1:14:49] Adam: You got a real good chance at a lake trout, and you also have a real good chance at a trophy northern pike.
[1:14:49 – 1:14:50] Erik: Yeah, I would say the…
[1:14:50 – 1:14:57] Adam: So make sure you at least have somewhat of a heavy-duty leader, and then it’s just a matter of time, really.
[1:14:57 – 1:15:00] Adam: Troll the shores, because it’s a pretty deep lake.
[1:15:00 – 1:15:02] Adam: Go look at the Google Maps of it.
[1:15:03 – 1:15:14] Adam: and you can see any sort of like light spot near a point or shoreline that would be a good spot to like highlight and kind of do some trolling runs over wind allowing of course
[1:15:15 – 1:15:23] Erik: Yeah, I would say that time of year, obviously, we have the episode reviewing the campsites, and you know where the good ones, they’re almost all.
[1:15:23 – 1:15:32] Adam: Campsite 12, which was famously hilariously bad, also has one of the better little mini reefs in front of it, though.
[1:15:32 – 1:15:34] Adam: It’s a real nice bouldery flat.
[1:15:35 – 1:15:43] Erik: Yeah, I would say that time of year, the north shore of Winchell, trolling and casting, that’s going to be your mega northern areas.
[1:15:44 – 1:15:46] Erik: And this is obviously generals.
[1:15:46 – 1:15:52] Erik: And then the south shore is going to be where you’re going to want to be trolling, like some deep spoons for lake trout.
[1:15:52 – 1:16:04] Erik: But don’t underestimate the one little notch on the lake, two-thirds of the way down on the north side to the west that goes up towards, like, Omega.
[1:16:05 – 1:16:05] Erik: Yeah, the Omega.
[1:16:06 – 1:16:07] Adam: The Omega Pod.
[1:16:08 – 1:16:10] Erik: That is a bomb little bay with an island in it.
[1:16:11 – 1:16:12] Erik: Excellent fishing in there.
[1:16:13 – 1:16:16] Erik: You could troll around it, like, for hours in circles.
[1:16:16 – 1:16:20] Adam: Mid-June’s tricky because the lake chart could be where you can see the bottom.
[1:16:21 – 1:16:22] Adam: Yeah.
[1:16:22 – 1:16:25] Adam: Or they could be in a hard foot by then, depending on the water tone.
[1:16:25 – 1:16:27] Adam: And I would say… Because it goes pretty quick.
[1:16:27 – 1:16:32] Erik: At this point, based on the ice out that we’ve experienced and the temperatures, it’s probably going to be…
[1:16:33 – 1:16:38] Erik: They’ll be a little deeper by then, but still, you’re not talking downrigger or anything.
[1:16:38 – 1:16:46] Erik: I think you can still do like a deep, deep diver or even just let a spoon sink and then do a real slow troll.
[1:16:46 – 1:16:49] Adam: Either way, there’s always big pike that are in play.
[1:16:50 – 1:16:51] Erik: Especially from camp.
[1:16:51 – 1:16:52] Erik: We were doing that big June trip.
[1:16:52 – 1:16:54] Erik: We were just casting from camp.
[1:16:54 – 1:16:57] Adam: You really can’t go wrong with a big floating Rapala.
[1:16:57 – 1:16:57] Erik: Yeah.
[1:16:58 – 1:17:02] Erik: And then even, you know, take a day trip up into Gaskin.
[1:17:03 – 1:17:10] Erik: Just one portage away from Winchell, you’re into pretty decent walleye waters slash heavy moose trafficked areas.
[1:17:11 – 1:17:11] Erik: Choo, choo, choo.
[1:17:13 – 1:17:24] Erik: And yeah, you want to send us a personal message, TysonMasterOfNone, either on Reddit or TumbleHomeCast at gmail.com.
[1:17:24 – 1:17:27] Erik: I would love to expound on any more information.

[1:17:55 – 1:18:00] Erik: Second trip is in July, planning on heading out from Tuscarora with a group of four.
[1:18:01 – 1:18:05] Erik: We’re not exactly sure on the route yet, but winging it is part of the fun.
[1:18:05 – 1:18:06] Erik: Make sure you go to Whipped.
[1:18:07 – 1:18:09] Erik: Make sure you go to Thelma.
[1:18:09 – 1:18:10] Adam: Make sure you get to Terry.
[1:18:11 – 1:18:12] Adam: Whatever you do, get to Terry.
[1:18:12 – 1:18:13] Erik: Their trip will be in September.
[1:18:13 – 1:18:18] Erik: We’re thinking about doing the Knife Lake route, and I’m really excited about all the different route possibilities.
[1:18:19 – 1:18:21] Erik: Sky’s the limit out there.
[1:18:21 – 1:18:22] Erik: Knife land.
[1:18:22 – 1:18:26] Erik: I’m also trying to put together a guys trip, which will probably be in October.
[1:18:27 – 1:18:32] Erik: I’m really hoping it works out so I can do four trips this year, which will be a yearly high for me.
[1:18:32 – 1:18:33] Adam: You’re a sick maniac.
[1:18:34 – 1:18:36] SPEAKER_00: Sick maniac.
[1:18:36 – 1:18:36] SPEAKER_00: Also jealous.
[1:18:36 – 1:18:38] Erik: So stoked for these trips.
[1:18:38 – 1:18:40] Erik: Can’t wait to get back in the bound.
[1:18:42 – 1:18:42] Erik: Back in the bound.
[1:18:42 – 1:18:45] SPEAKER_00: There’s been a bunch of fun little like, what was the other one?
[1:18:45 – 1:18:46] Erik: Lil Boo and Boo.
[1:18:47 – 1:18:48] Erik: Yeah.
[1:18:48 – 1:18:49] Erik: That was a fun one too.
[1:18:49 – 1:18:50] Erik: I’ve never heard before.
[1:18:50 – 1:18:51] Erik: Back in the bound.
[1:18:51 – 1:18:51] Erik: Lil Boo.
[1:18:52 – 1:18:57] Erik: Been burning cedar incense almost every night lately just to set the mood.
[1:18:57 – 1:18:58] Erik: That’s a good thing to do.
[1:18:58 – 1:18:59] Erik: Yeah.
[1:18:59 – 1:19:00] Erik: Get your mind right.
[1:19:01 – 1:19:09] Adam: Joby in my prines, two points, taking my two brother-in-laws, my nine-year-old nephew, and my seven-year-old dad up in July.
[1:19:10 – 1:19:15] Adam: Nothing crazy due to the age range, but the plan is the numbered lakes for five days.
[1:19:16 – 1:19:20] Adam: We’ll mostly be base camping, but I’m excited for every minute of it.
[1:19:20 – 1:19:23] Adam: The fishing, the water, the weather, even the bugs.
[1:19:24 – 1:19:24] Adam: The bugs.
[1:19:25 – 1:19:28] Adam: Yes, because as we’ve noted, the bugs mean good fishing.
[1:19:28 – 1:19:32] Adam: So those two go hand in hand.
[1:19:32 – 1:19:33] Adam: Good luck on your trips.
[1:19:33 – 1:19:34] Erik: Continue on with Nash Kato.
[1:19:35 – 1:19:36] Adam: I’ll take that one.
[1:19:36 – 1:19:37] Adam: Two points.
[1:19:37 – 1:19:38] Adam: 100%.
[1:19:38 – 1:19:43] Adam: I am doing a trip, but the pandemic’s made it tough to plan very far ahead.
[1:19:43 – 1:19:55] Adam: I hope to do a family trip in July-August, but it may be a solo buddy trip in the fall, aiming for a Gunflint entry this time, inspired by the recent two-part episode with Andy about SAG.
[1:19:56 – 1:19:58] Adam: Last few trips have been Ely and Sawbill area.
[1:20:00 – 1:20:05] Adam: It’s a 12-hour drive for me from Missouri, so hard to do more than one trip a year.
[1:20:06 – 1:20:10] Adam: But I will bring some beer from the loo up and drop it at the Clearwater.
[1:20:10 – 1:20:11] Adam: Yes.
[1:20:11 – 1:20:12] Erik: The loo.
[1:20:14 – 1:20:14] Adam: The loo.
[1:20:14 – 1:20:15] Adam: Oh, my God.
[1:20:15 – 1:20:19] Erik: To the boo, to the little boo, to the bound.
[1:20:19 – 1:20:19] Adam: All right.
[1:20:19 – 1:20:21] Adam: Go Cardinals, I guess.
[1:20:21 – 1:20:21] Erik: Yeah.
[1:20:23 – 1:20:50] Adam: swing those bats boys swing that’s what they chant I believe that’s how they do it go for the home run very slowly I’ve been up the arch beautiful city on that sideways elevator yeah that’s a goofy little thing like a bunch of little eggs going up a thing well to get a overnight delivery box out at Clearwater for all the beer deliveries this year jeez
[1:20:54 – 1:20:56] Erik: Max Cavan coming in.
[1:20:56 – 1:20:57] Erik: Friend of the show.
[1:20:57 – 1:20:58] Erik: Friend of the show.
[1:20:58 – 1:20:59] Erik: Two points.
[1:20:59 – 1:21:02] Erik: Currently planning two overnight trips with a paddle partner.
[1:21:02 – 1:21:06] Erik: I hope I didn’t pop my peas there, Max.
[1:21:07 – 1:21:13] Erik: They are the two Gunflint Lake adjacent routes, Granite River and West Bearskin reversed.
[1:21:13 – 1:21:19] Erik: Ever since I was a kid spending summers at the cabin on Gunflint Lake, these two areas have been places I wanted to explore.
[1:21:21 – 1:21:23] Erik: even before I really knew what the Boundary Waters was.
[1:21:24 – 1:21:31] Erik: I’m especially excited to check out the remains of the old portage from Little Gunflint into Little North for some reason.
[1:21:31 – 1:21:32] Adam: That is cool to see.
[1:21:33 – 1:21:34] Erik: That is crazy.
[1:21:34 – 1:21:35] Erik: It’s a little spooky.
[1:21:35 – 1:21:36] Erik: It is a little spooky.
[1:21:36 – 1:21:37] Adam: You know how I don’t like things in the water.
[1:21:37 – 1:21:38] Erik: I know.
[1:21:38 – 1:21:39] Erik: You’ve got that phobia.
[1:21:39 – 1:21:41] Adam: Oh, it’s anti-gravity and do not like.
[1:21:42 – 1:21:45] Erik: That’s a little phobia.
[1:21:45 – 1:21:49] Erik: I also want to do a really simple overnight solo.
[1:21:49 – 1:22:01] Erik: This is something that is extremely out of my comfort zone, but on my bucket list, would love any recommendations, hoping to do something off of a Gunflint Trail entry point and keep it to only one or two portages in.
[1:22:02 – 1:22:02] Adam: Yeah, Gojibic.
[1:22:03 – 1:22:04] Erik: Yeah, that’s a good idea.
[1:22:04 – 1:22:06] Adam: That’s where I did my first solo trip.
[1:22:06 – 1:22:13] Erik: Yeah, we’ve talked about this in the past as well, about how we wanted to do a full episode on solo trips, but I’ve never done one.
[1:22:14 – 1:22:16] Erik: And it’s one of those things that I still want to do.
[1:22:16 – 1:22:16] Erik: Oh, I was spooked.
[1:22:17 – 1:22:19] Erik: Before we get to have that conversation.
[1:22:19 – 1:22:20] Adam: But I was alive.
[1:22:21 – 1:22:23] Erik: Oh, I ate a brat and a hammock.
[1:22:25 – 1:22:26] Erik: I caught a brook trout.
[1:22:27 – 1:22:28] Adam: Oh, you got to go to Gojibic.
[1:22:28 – 1:22:30] Adam: It’s one portage off of Clearwater.
[1:22:30 – 1:22:31] Adam: No problemo.
[1:22:33 – 1:22:48] Erik: ghosts oh wait you said gbic i said ghosts yeah ghost gbic uh yeah uh it’s my favorite of the gbics trying to think what else would be a decent option go to crocodile in june do a single portage up in iran
[1:22:51 – 1:22:52] Adam: Yeah, that’s easy peasy.
[1:22:53 – 1:22:54] Erik: Yeah, and there’s two nice campsites.
[1:22:54 – 1:22:58] Erik: You’re guaranteed you’re going to get one, and then you’ve got some light trout fishing, especially this time of year.
[1:23:00 – 1:23:01] Erik: What else is there?
[1:23:01 – 1:23:04] Erik: Yeah, crocodile wouldn’t be bad, depending on which way you came from.
[1:23:04 – 1:23:10] Erik: But I’m just thinking the solo aspect in the canoe, I always like to be super cautious on, like,
[1:23:10 – 1:23:14] SPEAKER_00: Head out on the sag and go out to American Point.
[1:23:14 – 1:23:16] Erik: Yeah, yeah.
[1:23:16 – 1:23:18] Erik: Some of those smaller lakes are nice.
[1:23:18 – 1:23:19] Adam: He knows the area.
[1:23:19 – 1:23:20] Adam: He’ll figure it out.
[1:23:20 – 1:23:20] Erik: Yeah, yeah.
[1:23:21 – 1:23:23] Erik: Thanks, Max Cavan slash Max.
[1:23:24 – 1:23:26] Adam: Big ordeal.
[1:23:26 – 1:23:26] Adam: Uh-oh.
[1:23:27 – 1:23:27] Adam: Two points.
[1:23:28 – 1:23:29] Adam: Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
[1:23:30 – 1:23:31] Adam: Can we get a party horn?
[1:23:34 – 1:23:37] Adam: Your party horns are the P, mine’s the F. Yeah, well, they work well together.
[1:23:37 – 1:23:38] Adam: First PMA trip.
[1:23:39 – 1:23:40] Adam: Nice.
[1:23:40 – 1:23:50] Adam: May 27th, starting off with a bang doing the angle worm portage and heading into Sundial PMA by cruising the bear trap.
[1:23:51 – 1:23:52] Adam: River Anchor snub.
[1:23:53 – 1:23:54] Erik: We snubbed the river.
[1:23:54 – 1:23:57] Erik: Yeah, we did snub the bear trap, but nobody else commented on it either.
[1:23:57 – 1:23:57] Erik: Hey.
[1:23:57 – 1:23:58] Adam: Yeah.
[1:23:58 – 1:23:59] Adam: He was a group snub.
[1:24:00 – 1:24:01] Adam: Just for this season.
[1:24:01 – 1:24:02] Adam: Yeah.
[1:24:02 – 1:24:03] Adam: We’ll see about it next year.
[1:24:03 – 1:24:05] Adam: Future non-snub.
[1:24:06 – 1:24:13] Adam: Going bear trap to Sunday Lake, tacking Sterling Creek to Sterling Lake, then back down through the Stewart River.
[1:24:14 – 1:24:17] Adam: That’s some thin water.
[1:24:17 – 1:24:18] Erik: Oh, man.
[1:24:18 – 1:24:19] Erik: That’s awesome.
[1:24:19 – 1:24:19] Erik: Big ordeal.
[1:24:20 – 1:24:21] Adam: Thin blue lines.
[1:24:21 – 1:24:22] Adam: I like the username.
[1:24:22 – 1:24:26] Adam: It’s an Errol Morris documentary about paddling Boundary Waters rivers.
[1:24:27 – 1:24:28] Erik: Thin blue lines.
[1:24:28 – 1:24:31] Erik: Falsely accused of not helping enough on portages.
[1:24:31 – 1:24:32] Erik: Especially on the Stewart.
[1:24:33 – 1:24:34] Erik: I can’t wait to get over there.
[1:24:35 – 1:24:35] Erik: Oh, man.
[1:24:38 – 1:24:39] Erik: Quick step, Kyle.
[1:24:39 – 1:24:41] Erik: Oh, I’m pretty sure I know who this is.
[1:24:41 – 1:24:43] Erik: Remember our good friend Kyle?
[1:24:43 – 1:24:47] Erik: How much of a good dancer he was at the Clearwater dance?
[1:24:47 – 1:24:49] Adam: Still jealous of those dance moves.
[1:24:49 – 1:24:50] Erik: Heading to Snowbank.
[1:24:50 – 1:24:56] Erik: Entering May 28th on Snowbank and planning to base camp on Thomas or Fraser for a few nights.
[1:24:56 – 1:25:00] Erik: Never been to this part of the park, so it should be fun to see some new country.
[1:25:01 – 1:25:10] Erik: Those lakes are, uh, world class when it comes to lake trout, especially in the winter, but especially early season.
[1:25:10 – 1:25:15] Erik: If you’re not going for lake trout on a Fraser or Thomas, that’s fine.
[1:25:15 – 1:25:17] Erik: You don’t always have to fish, but you really should be.
[1:25:18 – 1:25:18] Erik: Um,
[1:25:20 – 1:25:28] Erik: And then hopefully the Lakers are still shallow so we can stay busy over happy hour attending to our jingle bell fishing alarm system.
[1:25:28 – 1:25:29] Erik: That’s the one.
[1:25:30 – 1:25:32] Adam: That’s the one I was thinking about today.
[1:25:32 – 1:25:34] Adam: Yes, we have to implement this.
[1:25:35 – 1:25:43] Erik: There’s nothing like catching fish from camp, relaxing, listening to Grateful Dead, and sipping on some box of wine while the campfire is burning.
[1:25:44 – 1:25:47] Adam: What’s the best Dead album to listen to while you’re jingle bell fishing?
[1:25:49 – 1:25:49] Erik: Live Dead?
[1:25:50 – 1:25:51] Adam: Yeah, I mean… Terrapin Station?
[1:25:53 – 1:25:54] Erik: Don’t ask me.
[1:25:54 – 1:25:55] Adam: I’m going to go with alive dead.
[1:25:56 – 1:25:56] Adam: Thank you.
[1:25:56 – 1:25:58] Erik: Do you know where the term saved by the bell came from?
[1:25:59 – 1:25:59] Erik: No.
[1:25:59 – 1:26:09] Erik: So there was a little bit of a scare back in the day because for whatever reason, I don’t know if they had to dig them up or if they came up in floods.
[1:26:09 – 1:26:16] Erik: But some coffins were found to have, after they were opened, they found some scratches on the inside.
[1:26:17 – 1:26:17] Erik: Oh, no.
[1:26:17 – 1:26:27] Erik: So then they started installing hooks and lines onto people’s fingers with bells right above their graves.
[1:26:27 – 1:26:29] Erik: So after they got buried… What?
[1:26:29 – 1:26:34] Erik: There was a bell next to every gravestone so that if you got buried alive…
[1:26:35 – 1:26:40] Erik: And so for the longest time, there would be people like posted in the graveyard to listen for bells.
[1:26:42 – 1:26:43] Adam: That’s what jingle bells are?
[1:26:43 – 1:26:44] Erik: No, no, no.
[1:26:44 – 1:26:47] Erik: That’s the term saved by the bell.
[1:26:49 – 1:26:50] Adam: Christmas is ruined.
[1:26:51 – 1:26:55] Erik: It has nothing to do with Christmas, but if you want to associate it with Christmas, that’s fine, too.
[1:26:55 – 1:26:56] Erik: Why, Santa?
[1:26:56 – 1:26:57] Erik: Agent YT.
[1:26:57 – 1:26:59] Erik: Oh, my God.
[1:26:59 – 1:27:02] Erik: Plans this year include two trips, count them, two.
[1:27:03 – 1:27:10] Erik: Knife Lake and Kakakabic Lake in June, getting a tow from Williams and Hall up to Birch Lake and then paddling to Thunder Point on day one.
[1:27:11 – 1:27:11] Adam: Yes.
[1:27:12 – 1:27:12] Erik: That sounds amazing.
[1:27:12 – 1:27:14] Adam: Toot, toot, toot, toot, toot.
[1:27:15 – 1:27:16] Adam: Doot, doot, doot.
[1:27:16 – 1:27:17] Adam: Doot, doot, toot.
[1:27:17 – 1:27:18] Adam: Food, food, food.
[1:27:18 – 1:27:19] Adam: Eddie, Eddie.
[1:27:19 – 1:27:24] Erik: For sure want to hit up Eddie Falls too, but final details to be worked out in the next couple of weeks.
[1:27:24 – 1:27:24] Erik: TBD.
[1:27:25 – 1:27:25] Erik: Yeah.
[1:27:25 – 1:27:26] Erik: TBD.
[1:27:26 – 1:27:27] Adam: Add that one in on there.
[1:27:28 – 1:27:32] Erik: Trip two, going out of Kawishawi Outfitters in August and heading over to Insula and Alice Lake.
[1:27:33 – 1:27:36] Erik: Excited to be taking first timers on both trips.
[1:27:37 – 1:27:38] Erik: Love the show, guys.
[1:27:38 – 1:27:39] Erik: I’m just saying.
[1:27:40 – 1:27:41] Erik: Thanks, Agent YT.
[1:27:42 – 1:27:43] Erik: Thanks for the feedback.
[1:27:43 – 1:27:44] Erik: Appreciate it.
[1:27:44 – 1:27:45] Erik: Those both sound like great trips.
[1:27:45 – 1:27:48] Erik: Coming at it from the west side.
[1:27:48 – 1:27:54] Erik: Although still getting to some relatively Gunflint adjacent Eddy Falls.
[1:27:54 – 1:27:56] Adam: Getting some heart of the park stuff in there.
[1:27:56 – 1:27:56] Erik: Yeah.
[1:27:57 – 1:27:58] Erik: Two more comments.
[1:27:58 – 1:28:00] Adam: Muddyfoot1022.
[1:28:01 – 1:28:02] Erik: There’s been a lot of 22s in here.
[1:28:03 – 1:28:06] Adam: How did they know we were going to record on the 22nd, Eric?
[1:28:07 – 1:28:09] Adam: I don’t know.
[1:28:09 – 1:28:10] Adam: Illuminati.
[1:28:10 – 1:28:12] Adam: Muddyfoot1022, two points.
[1:28:13 – 1:28:21] Adam: This year for me is another 15-hour drive from the northern paradise of the Boundary Waters in early October, but with a twist.
[1:28:22 – 1:28:31] Adam: Me and three buddies from high school are all turning the big 5-0 this year, so we are marking it with a camping trip and canoe trip in the wilderness.
[1:28:31 – 1:28:34] Adam: Three outdoorsmen and one guy who is just a dork.
[1:28:35 – 1:28:36] Adam: Shout out to the dork.
[1:28:37 – 1:28:43] Adam: The plan was a bowl of chili and moose head at the trail center and then off to base camp on Big Winchy.
[1:28:44 – 1:28:48] Adam: But after the big sag show, the guy from Tuscarora sold me on sag.
[1:28:48 – 1:28:48] UNKNOWN: Nice.
[1:28:49 – 1:28:49] Adam: Way to go.
[1:28:50 – 1:28:50] Adam: Way to go, Andy.
[1:28:51 – 1:28:54] Adam: Never been on that water so big.
[1:28:54 – 1:28:59] Adam: So it’s intimidating, but it looks like a ton of options for camping, fishing, and paddling based on the weather.
[1:29:00 – 1:29:01] Adam: I can’t wait.
[1:29:02 – 1:29:03] Adam: Love the podcast.
[1:29:03 – 1:29:03] Adam: We love you, too.
[1:29:03 – 1:29:04] Adam: Thank you, Muddyfoot1022.
[1:29:05 – 1:29:06] Adam: You’re going to nail it.
[1:29:07 – 1:29:07] Erik: Yeah.
[1:29:07 – 1:29:13] Erik: Boy, I’m glad that there has been such a positive response.
[1:29:14 – 1:29:16] Erik: Over 100 episodes.
[1:29:17 – 1:29:17] Erik: We’ve always been…
[1:29:19 – 1:29:30] Erik: cautious, hesitant, mostly due to our own pitfalls and social anxieties and oddness with others to include other experts in the field.
[1:29:31 – 1:29:33] Erik: And I’m so happy that the little…
[1:29:34 – 1:30:03] Erik: toe in the shallow pool of like exploring options to having other outfitters let us know what their thoughts are on the matter that’s cool is awesome and I really hope that it helps because the feedback we’ve gotten from listeners will help me gain confidence to extend that outward and because we are no longer officially associated with Clearwater as a sponsor um
[1:30:03 – 1:30:13] Erik: I want to maybe expand that and talk to some other outfitters in their realm of expertise and lakes that they will always know more than us on.
[1:30:14 – 1:30:27] Adam: I really don’t think like any way is going to the Boundary Waters because of this podcast, but it is cool to think about that people who are going to the Boundary Waters are like, you know, kind of using what we’ve said on the podcast in their planning of trips.
[1:30:27 – 1:30:28] Erik: Yeah, for sure.
[1:30:28 – 1:30:30] Adam: Which I guess is the point, right?
[1:30:30 – 1:30:34] Adam: Like putting us out there trying to share some knowledge and some…
[1:30:34 – 1:30:37] Adam: you know, try and help people do better trips.
[1:30:37 – 1:30:38] Erik: Exactly.
[1:30:38 – 1:30:44] Adam: And that’s, it’s always neat to hear when somebody is like, Oh, because of this episode or whatever that, you know, we’re going to do this now.
[1:30:45 – 1:30:46] Erik: Yeah.
[1:30:46 – 1:30:54] Erik: Like I said, that we wouldn’t be doing it if it, if it was, if there was no response from anybody at this point, it would be extremely sad.
[1:30:56 – 1:30:56] Erik: Very sad.
[1:30:56 – 1:30:59] Adam: There’s no way we would have made it to a hundred.
[1:30:59 – 1:31:01] Adam: If it was just you and me sitting in studio.
[1:31:01 – 1:31:01] Adam: Okay.
[1:31:02 – 1:31:02] Adam: What do you think, Eric?
[1:31:03 – 1:31:03] Erik: I don’t know.
[1:31:03 – 1:31:04] Adam: I don’t know.
[1:31:04 – 1:31:12] Adam: I mean, half our episodes are just getting to read other people’s good comments and thoughts on good places to check out and what they’re doing.
[1:31:12 – 1:31:15] Adam: So that’s pretty much the show.
[1:31:15 – 1:31:18] Adam: I mean, it’s kind of a racket, I guess, when you think of it that way.
[1:31:18 – 1:31:21] SPEAKER_00: No, I mean, don’t… We’re just mediators.
[1:31:21 – 1:31:23] Erik: You don’t get to sell yourself so short.
[1:31:23 – 1:31:30] Erik: But, you know, at the end of the day, like, yeah, we would not have made it nearly as far without the interaction…
[1:31:31 – 1:31:36] Adam: I would have been happy with like 20 good episodes just on like the, you know, the Clearwater Loop or something.
[1:31:36 – 1:31:37] Adam: Just a standalone 20.
[1:31:37 – 1:31:37] Adam: Yeah, there you go.
[1:31:37 – 1:31:39] Erik: That would have been fun just on its own.
[1:31:39 – 1:31:41] Adam: We could have done that with no feedback.
[1:31:41 – 1:31:43] Erik: And it’s always there and it’s always the same information.
[1:31:44 – 1:31:45] Erik: But that’s just like we were talking like…
[1:31:45 – 1:31:46] Adam: It’s a little time capsule.
[1:31:47 – 1:32:01] Erik: As we were in between some of the last breaks and how we always end up going way longer than we do, it’s like, well, yeah, we could sit down and just read from point A to B the responses, but you can do that at home already.
[1:32:02 – 1:32:06] Erik: The fun in this show is reading the responses and then talking about it.
[1:32:06 – 1:32:10] Adam: The little sparks that fly up out of your mind when you read a response.
[1:32:10 – 1:32:10] Adam: Yeah.
[1:32:10 – 1:32:11] Adam: Oh, I remember that thing.
[1:32:12 – 1:32:12] Erik: Mm-hmm.
[1:32:12 – 1:32:13] Adam: Oh, yeah.
[1:32:13 – 1:32:15] Adam: You know, and it just takes you away.
[1:32:16 – 1:32:16] Adam: Yeah.
[1:32:17 – 1:32:20] Adam: It’s like throwing a map on the table and talking about all the places you’ve been on the map.
[1:32:20 – 1:32:20] Adam: Mm-hmm.
[1:32:21 – 1:32:29] Adam: I can literally sit down with a stranger and just put a map out, and if we’d both been there, like, we could talk for hours together.
[1:32:30 – 1:32:32] Adam: Yeah, it was like… A map is a good way to bring somebody together.
[1:32:33 – 1:32:41] Erik: Yeah, so on the Clearwater, the window that we’re working through, there’s a table in front of it, and on that table is just F-14 under plexiglass.
[1:32:41 – 1:32:42] Erik: Yeah, as it should be.
[1:32:42 – 1:32:44] Erik: And, like, I’ve, like, found myself, like… You got a laser pointer?
[1:32:45 – 1:32:48] Erik: No, like, a couple of times I’ve been, like, I’m, like, halfway out the window.
[1:32:48 – 1:32:48] Erik: Yeah.
[1:32:48 – 1:32:59] Erik: Just, like, in the… Basically, I should just come outside at this point to talk, but the map is just drawing me away and luring me into the giving up the social distancing.
[1:32:59 – 1:32:59] Erik: I don’t care.
[1:32:59 – 1:33:00] Erik: Let’s talk maps.
[1:33:01 – 1:33:08] Erik: Um, so we’re finishing up with the, uh, final comments and it’s just because of the timeliness of it.
[1:33:08 – 1:33:14] Erik: I don’t think it has anything to do with the quality of the response from ghost of Ed Abbey.
[1:33:15 – 1:33:22] Adam: Well, the ghost is a long time, uh, supporter of tumble home, the subreddit.
[1:33:22 – 1:33:22] Adam: Yeah.
[1:33:23 – 1:33:28] Adam: Uh, he’s been with us from the very beginning on tumble home subreddit and, uh,
[1:33:28 – 1:33:33] Erik: Well, in the previous subreddit, which if you guys want to still go out and hang out on RBWCA, that’s totally cool.
[1:33:33 – 1:33:35] Erik: I’m not against it.
[1:33:35 – 1:33:42] Erik: It’s just if you listened through to the end of last episode, it’s more a personal decision.
[1:33:42 – 1:33:44] Erik: It’s nothing on my point.
[1:33:44 – 1:33:47] Erik: And from my perspective, it’s not personal against them.
[1:33:47 – 1:33:54] Erik: I think it’s us just wanting to have a clear and free space to put these questions up.
[1:33:54 – 1:33:56] Adam: I think it makes sense, honestly.
[1:33:56 – 1:33:58] Erik: I think it just makes sense.
[1:33:58 – 1:34:04] Erik: Whatever happened may have happened, and I think they’ve got their ducks in a row on RBWCA now.
[1:34:05 – 1:34:09] Erik: And I don’t want to diminish anybody from going there anymore.
[1:34:10 – 1:34:14] Erik: I think it’s still an entry point to the park for a lot of people.
[1:34:15 – 1:34:17] Erik: as is BWCA.com.
[1:34:17 – 1:34:31] Erik: We’re just many, one of many avenues in terms of how you want to digest the information and the adjacent entertainment that comes along with it.
[1:34:31 – 1:34:35] Erik: It is, we’re not even, you know, we’re like the amuse-bouche.
[1:34:35 – 1:34:39] Adam: We should get like a Hall of Fame for our Tumble Home cast.
[1:34:39 – 1:34:39] Adam: Yeah.
[1:34:40 – 1:35:04] Erik: we’re already getting hall of famers for yeah and it’s just everybody who posted on this first question of the week on our tumble home cast the original casters the og tumble homies yeah i don’t know but that i mean i don’t it’s not a i got an email from somebody who’s just like i’ve been listening to every episode but i don’t i just don’t do the social media you know and well yeah that’s i mean i’m on the show and i’ve never once posted on our tumble home cast
[1:35:04 – 1:35:09] Erik: Yeah, it’s whatever avenue you want to experience the Boundary Waters and us through.
[1:35:10 – 1:35:13] Erik: If we happen to be a lily pad in that
[1:35:15 – 1:35:43] Erik: progression of you getting the best out of a trip that’s awesome if not that’s totally cool too and we’ll finish with Ghost of Ed Abbey and then we’re going to get out of here um and looking forward to our trip in the field it has been a long time since we’ve been in the field together with Field Mike in about as virgin territory for both of us as any trip we’ve ever taken um
[1:35:45 – 1:35:48] Erik: There’s nothing where it’s like, oh, I haven’t been to the Lissy Lake, but you’ve been here.
[1:35:48 – 1:35:49] Erik: Or I’ve been to this one.
[1:35:50 – 1:35:57] Erik: And you haven’t, you know, this is all brand spanking new with maybe just a little bit of some Lac La Croix waters we haven’t been to.
[1:35:57 – 1:36:00] Erik: So, I am about as excited as you can get.
[1:36:00 – 1:36:02] Erik: So, goes to Vet Abbey.
[1:36:02 – 1:36:10] Erik: Entering May 23rd at Gunflint slash Magnetic to spend four days on the Granite River with my brother and hopefully catching fish.
[1:36:10 – 1:36:11] Adam: You will.
[1:36:11 – 1:36:11] Erik: Yes.
[1:36:13 – 1:36:22] Erik: First Sunday of August has the family, me, wife, eight-year-old, six-year-old boys entering at Clearwater for missed most of it.
[1:36:22 – 1:36:24] Erik: I’m assuming most of a week on Caribou.
[1:36:25 – 1:36:25] Erik: Big boo.
[1:36:26 – 1:36:26] Erik: Big boo.
[1:36:27 – 1:36:31] Erik: Thinking of an October brookie trip, but depends how the year unfolds.
[1:36:32 – 1:36:32] Adam: Nice.
[1:36:33 – 1:36:36] Erik: Excited to see new water and just be out of the house.
[1:36:37 – 1:36:39] Erik: Even better to be up north.
[1:36:39 – 1:36:40] Erik: In that clean air.
[1:36:41 – 1:36:43] Erik: Clean Northwoods air.
[1:36:43 – 1:36:44] Erik: Out of the house.
[1:36:46 – 1:36:46] Erik: Yeah.
[1:36:47 – 1:36:47] Erik: There it is.
[1:36:47 – 1:36:48] Erik: Episode 100.
[1:36:50 – 1:36:51] Erik: I think we did it justice.
[1:36:51 – 1:36:52] Erik: Didn’t go too crazy.
[1:36:52 – 1:36:55] Erik: I mean, at a certain point, it just becomes a gimmick.
[1:36:55 – 1:36:55] Adam: I only cursed once.
[1:36:56 – 1:36:57] Adam: I mean, I feel pretty good.
[1:36:57 – 1:36:59] Erik: You only cursed once and you wrote it down?
[1:36:59 – 1:37:01] Erik: I think it’s the first loon bleep in a while.
[1:37:01 – 1:37:04] Adam: I was pretty under the breath, but I let one go.
[1:37:05 – 1:37:06] Adam: I was a little too excited.
[1:37:06 – 1:37:08] Erik: A little too excited.
[1:37:08 – 1:37:10] Erik: Well, thank you again, everybody.
[1:37:10 – 1:37:13] Erik: It’s just the episode of just people getting sick of us saying thank you.
[1:37:13 – 1:37:20] Erik: But yeah, let’s keep the momentum moving forward.
[1:37:21 – 1:37:23] Erik: The park is love.
[1:37:24 – 1:37:27] Erik: And we love talking the park with you all.
[1:37:30 – 1:37:32] Adam: Absolutely.
[1:37:33 – 1:37:39] Adam: I would say that we got to make sure we give a special shout out to the wives.
[1:37:41 – 1:37:41] Adam: Yes.
[1:37:41 – 1:37:52] Adam: 100 episodes in, and they’re very patient on accommodating with us, like getting together and drinking a bunch of beer and yelling about the Boundary Waters on a weekly basis.
[1:37:53 – 1:37:55] Adam: Yeah.
[1:37:55 – 1:37:57] Adam: And going in the Boundary Waters with us.
[1:37:58 – 1:37:59] Erik: Well, we’re not getting to go.
[1:37:59 – 1:38:01] Erik: Or that, you know.
[1:38:01 – 1:38:04] Erik: Which is more often the case, unfortunately, just with the way schedules are.
[1:38:04 – 1:38:05] Adam: Schedules are tough.
[1:38:05 – 1:38:05] Erik: Yeah.
[1:38:06 – 1:38:11] Adam: But we spend a lot of time, you know, like, oh, I don’t know, what day do you want to get together and record?
[1:38:13 – 1:38:16] Adam: And a lot of that, you know, just with…
[1:38:18 – 1:38:20] Adam: trying to figure out when it’s going to work for the schedule.
[1:38:20 – 1:38:27] Adam: You know, it’s been a lot of fun doing these 100 episodes so far with you.
[1:38:28 – 1:38:33] Adam: But, you know, it’s nice to know they support the project.
[1:38:34 – 1:38:36] Adam: They’re part of it in a lot of ways.
[1:38:36 – 1:38:38] Adam: We talk about them a lot on the show.
[1:38:38 – 1:38:40] Erik: They’ve been on it, yeah.
[1:38:40 – 1:38:48] Adam: You know, it’s our favorite paddling partners out there, you know, and that’s the trips we like to do when we can, so…
[1:38:49 – 1:38:52] Erik: Shout out to Natalie and Tori.
[1:38:52 – 1:38:54] Erik: Shout out for sure.
[1:38:55 – 1:39:07] Erik: Not enough time is spent in the canoe with them, but we’ve got some things in the books in the next few weeks where we will be spending time in the canoe and or canoes with them.
[1:39:08 – 1:39:09] Adam: Our favorite paddling partners.
[1:39:10 – 1:39:18] Adam: How lucky are we to have this podcast and all these people that listen to the podcast, but especially to have these amazing wives who also like to go paddling with us.
[1:39:19 – 1:39:24] Adam: I swear to God, sometimes I wake up and it seems like a dream that this is all working out this way.
[1:39:25 – 1:39:47] Adam: it’s pretty crazy this is the way it worked out and we’re super lucky so yeah and then we’ve gotten to spend another wonderful night sitting in studio k talking about the boundary waters tonight uh i don’t want to get too sappy but thank you eric it’s been an amazing ride it has been and uh we we were good friends when we started this 100 episodes ago but
[1:39:48 – 1:39:51] Adam: I feel like we’re even better friends now.
[1:39:51 – 1:39:52] Erik: Yes, I totally agree.
[1:39:52 – 1:39:54] Adam: I told you I was going to cry on this episode.
[1:39:54 – 1:39:58] Adam: Yep, there’s a tear.
[1:39:58 – 1:40:03] Erik: Yeah, you’re pinching yourself just to make yourself cry.
[1:40:03 – 1:40:04] Erik: But I get what you’re saying.
[1:40:04 – 1:40:07] Adam: Pinching myself in the buttery nipple.
[1:40:08 – 1:40:10] Erik: Bring those buttery nipple shots in here.
[1:40:10 – 1:40:16] Adam: And now we’re going to do a celebratory shot of not just… Where were they?
[1:40:16 – 1:40:17] Adam: Jolly Jollies.
[1:40:17 – 1:40:19] Adam: We’re not going to just do Jolly Jollies.
[1:40:19 – 1:40:22] Adam: We’re also going to have a shot of buttery nipple to end the show.
[1:40:23 – 1:40:26] Adam: And so I think it’s time for us to get out of here and go enjoy that.
[1:40:28 – 1:40:30] Adam: And, you know, just take it all in.
[1:40:30 – 1:40:30] Erik: Yep.
[1:40:31 – 1:40:31] Erik: Episode 100.
[1:40:31 – 1:40:32] Erik: Thank you…
[1:40:37 – 1:40:39] Adam: I’m sorry for saying the word buttery nibble out loud.
[1:40:39 – 1:40:40] Adam: That’s just totally gross.
[1:40:40 – 1:40:48] Adam: But this is the show of the park and the people.
[1:40:48 – 1:40:49] Adam: Thank you for being here.
[1:40:49 – 1:40:51] SPEAKER_00: And happy paddling.
[1:40:51 – 1:40:53] SPEAKER_00: In April I open my bill.
[1:40:53 – 1:40:57] SPEAKER_00: In May I sing night and day.
[1:40:59 – 1:41:02] SPEAKER_00: Soon I change my tune.
[1:41:02 – 1:41:05] SPEAKER_00: In July, far, far I fly.
[1:41:05 – 1:41:08] SPEAKER_00: In August, away by my side.
[1:41:34 – 1:41:40] SPEAKER_00: When I open my bill in May, I sing night and day.
[1:41:40 – 1:41:44] SPEAKER_00: In June, I change my tune.
[1:41:45 – 1:41:48] SPEAKER_00: In July, far far I’ll fly.
[1:41:48 – 1:41:51] SPEAKER_00: In August, away.
