[0:00:01 – 0:00:08] AdamSnowLog: When the windigo set to attack a human being, a dark snow cloud would shroud its upper body from the waist up.
[0:00:08 – 0:00:11] AdamSnowLog: The air would turn cold, so the trees crackled.
[0:00:12 – 0:00:21] AdamSnowLog: Then a wind would rise, no more than a breath at first, but in moments whining and driving, transformed into a blizzard.
[0:00:23 – 0:00:27] AdamSnowLog: Behind the odor and chill of death and the killing blizzard came the Windigo.
[0:00:28 – 0:00:33] AdamSnowLog: Even before the Windigo laid hands on them, many people died in their tracks from fright.
[0:00:33 – 0:00:39] AdamSnowLog: Just to see the Windigo’s sepulchral face was enough to induce heart failure and death.

[0:00:51 – 0:00:58] AdamSnowLog: But for those who had the misfortune to live through their terror, death was slow and agonizing.
[0:00:59 – 0:01:11] AdamSnowLog: The Wendigo seized its victim and tore him or her limb from limb with its hands and teeth, eating the flesh and bones and drinking the blood while its victim screamed and struggled.

[0:01:15 – 0:01:17] AdamSnowLog: All that mattered was its survival.
[0:01:19 – 0:01:24] AdamSnowLog: The Weendigo gorged itself and glutted its belly, as if it would never eat again.
[0:01:24 – 0:01:27] AdamSnowLog: But a remarkable thing always occurred.
[0:01:28 – 0:01:38] AdamSnowLog: As the Weendigo ate, it grew, and as it grew, so did its hunger, so that no matter how much it ate, its hunger always remained in proportion to its size.
[0:01:40 – 0:01:47] AdamSnowLog: The Wendigo could never requite either its unnatural lust for human flesh or its unnatural appetite.
[0:01:48 – 0:01:57] AdamSnowLog: It could never stop, as animals do when blooded, unable to ingest another morsel, or sense, as humans sense, that enough is enough for the present.
[0:01:58 – 0:02:06] AdamSnowLog: For the unfortunate Wendigo, the more it ate, the bigger it grew, and the bigger it grew, the more it wanted and needed.
[0:02:08 – 0:02:13] AdamSnowLog: The Anishinaabe people had every reason to fear and abhor the Wendigo.
[0:02:14 – 0:02:17] AdamSnowLog: It was a giant cannibal that fed only on human flesh, bones, and blood.
[0:02:19 – 0:02:27] AdamSnowLog: But the Wendigo represented not only the worst that a human can do to another human being, and ultimately to himself or herself,
[0:02:29 – 0:02:31] AdamSnowLog: but exemplified other despicable traits.
[0:02:32 – 0:02:35] AdamSnowLog: Even the term wean-to-go evokes images of offensive traits.
[0:02:36 – 0:02:46] AdamSnowLog: It may be derived from wean-dago, which means solely for self, or from wean-in-to-go, which means fat or excess.
[0:02:48 – 0:02:49] AdamSnowLog: The Wendigo inspired fear.
[0:02:50 – 0:02:54] AdamSnowLog: There was no human sanction or punishment to compare to the death at the hands of the Wendigo.

[0:13:28 – 0:13:35] AdamSnowLog: Me and Arrow did get a nice ski jour in, and we were on the Bear Grease Trail today.
[0:13:38 – 0:14:06] AdamSnowLog: and we were running from two island all the way up to trestle pine and man it was fast trails too and we’re going down them and i was just thinking the whole time like man jesse terry and his team were just running through here a couple months ago and you know the bear grease it does in one hand feel like that was a long long time ago but
[0:14:08 – 0:14:09] AdamSnowLog: It was only a couple months ago.
[0:14:11 – 0:14:15] AdamSnowLog: And, yeah, to be back out on the Bear Grace Trail one more time.
[0:14:18 – 0:14:24] AdamSnowLog: To get out one more good ski genre, we did, it was like 2.8 miles out there and then 2.8 miles back.
[0:14:25 – 0:14:27] AdamSnowLog: Fine, we’ll call it 5.5 miles all day.
[0:14:27 – 0:14:34] AdamSnowLog: It was uphill all the way out there and then, I guess, mostly downhill coming back, but…
[0:14:35 – 0:14:37] AdamSnowLog: I don’t feel like I barely even skied.
[0:14:38 – 0:14:44] AdamSnowLog: Arrow mostly pulled and all I had to do is like just kind of pull the way out there.
[0:14:46 – 0:14:53] AdamSnowLog: A little bit of skiing, but when she’s going that fast, we were going like six and a half miles an hour the whole way in the snowmobile trail.
[0:14:53 – 0:14:57] AdamSnowLog: Um, the snowmobilers have taken over the bear grease trail at this point in the winter.
[0:14:58 – 0:15:03] AdamSnowLog: And, uh, that was super nice impact and like really fast going six and a half miles an hour.
[0:15:03 – 0:15:08] AdamSnowLog: And it’s like, if you try and, you know, kick with the skis, you’re just end up fumbling.
[0:15:08 – 0:15:10] AdamSnowLog: Cause, uh, you’re going too fast.
[0:15:11 – 0:15:13] AdamSnowLog: You can’t, I can’t possibly like kick at that kind of speed.
[0:15:13 – 0:15:14] AdamSnowLog: And that’s ridiculous.

[0:15:45 – 0:16:02] AdamSnowLog: We went by a bunch of old timers out there in Trestle Pine and they just sort of looked on in awe as, uh, me and Arrow went by and Lord, I mean, I wish we could see what they saw because from what I could tell, we were looking really good out there.
[0:16:08 – 0:16:27] AdamSnowLog: um we do have this ridiculous huge beer it’s a sierra nevada big little thing but it’s it’s it’s really big and not little at all it’s a massive beer this is ridiculous and we still do have the double fireballs here which are going to just be thrown in the ice fishing bag hopefully um

[0:17:49 – 0:18:04] AdamSnowLog: yeah we’re out on chemo if anybody’s still listening at this point um trestle pine over to chemo ran the portage up there and just nestled into that first bay and it’s usually pretty shallow in there have done really well in there this time of year
[0:18:06 – 0:18:26] AdamSnowLog: and there is lake trout naturally naturally reproduced lake trout in there they at one point did stock lake trout i want to say in that lake they also they stock trestle pine pretty heavily with the splake and they can get up the creek and we’ve definitely caught splake in there and then there is
[0:18:27 – 0:18:46] AdamSnowLog: historical brook trout which have been caught and there’s um there’s rainbows being stuck into talus and i think at one point into trestle pine so you never know what you’re gonna catch in there there’s like a serious like chance at every kind of trout that’s available on this lake
[0:18:47 – 0:19:09] AdamSnowLog: and but you know you’re only allowed to keep a couple lakers and then i think up to five splake or rainbow or brookies comboed with no more than three of them being over 16 inches and um so you gotta be careful with your ids and i would love to say that i’m guaranteed to know what i’m saying but
[0:19:10 – 0:19:38] AdamSnowLog: even especially on this lake um you know you’re only i’m only 95 sure i know the difference between a laker and a splake on this lake because boy they really look they really look similar so you just gotta be careful and then you just have to also assume that they’re all one or the other and so you’re not like you know breaking the law or something but on the other hand
[0:19:39 – 0:20:06] AdamSnowLog: we didn’t catch that many fish where it would ever have been a problem and i’m getting to go home with a really nice big lake trout i caught one it was 18 19 um i didn’t get a solid stick on it but it was 18 for sure a really big nice lake trout that i got to catch eventually and a bunch of other fish were caught in our group and i got home and um
[0:20:09 – 0:20:30] AdamSnowLog: i i one of my buddies was like do you mind just cleaning this extra fish or whatever so i came home and cleaned some fish they’re in the fridge there’s no better feeling than coming off the ice knowing you have keepers but then there is even no better feeling than that then when you get home and finally get them all cleaned up and like

[0:21:29 – 0:21:54] AdamSnowLog: it’s this tiny little swedish pimple silver with a chartreuse sticker on top and the hook is all like bent out of shape and i’ve had this thing on for years and years and all my friends all my homies are trying to convince me i need to just retire this thing and put it in the hall of fame because it would be a real shame to lose it at this point the amount of fish caught on this thing is just insane

[0:24:24 – 0:24:43] AdamSnowLog: I don’t know I wish the only thing I missed was I didn’t get to measure how much ice there was so probably about two feet ice though just plenty of ice don’t worry everybody there was a lot and I probably did see like I don’t know eight to nine other ice fishers out there
[0:24:44 – 0:24:56] AdamSnowLog: And when we got to the parking lot, there was no joke, like 15 other trucks and trailer combos all like in there to the point where like people were parked on the road.
[0:24:56 – 0:25:00] AdamSnowLog: Uh, I’m talking the parking lot by the two Island campground.
[0:25:04 – 0:25:10] AdamSnowLog: I don’t know, I got in there and I found like a spot to set up, but it was pretty packed.
[0:25:11 – 0:25:21] AdamSnowLog: And then when we got me and Arrow skied back out, you know, probably like 6, 6.15, got back out there, the Tundra was the only vehicle still left in that parking lot.

[0:25:34 – 0:25:41] AdamSnowLog: uh one more item uh did manage uh i’ve been watching the permits for the end of august
[0:25:43 – 0:26:05] AdamSnowLog: and last year we got our trip in with uh the boy we went to john lake which is a zero portage and i’m really been making sure i i’ve been really watching that last week of august trying to find some sort of trip near us where we can do like a one or maybe a two portage kind of trip i feel like it’s important that we add a portage in for this year
