Snow Log 12.14.25

Episode Transcript

[0:00:01 – 0:00:05] Adam: Ooh, we hear the wind outside rattling the windows.
[0:00:06 – 0:00:12] Adam: This is Snowlog for December 13th, 2025.
[0:00:12 – 0:00:12] Adam: My name is Adam.
[0:00:13 – 0:00:19] Adam: Joining me here, Studio V, is my dear friend, Eric.
[0:00:19 – 0:00:22] Adam: Windlog is more like it, my god.
[0:00:22 – 0:00:24] Erik: I’ve been gustin’.
[0:00:25 – 0:00:31] Erik: I think it got above zero for three minutes today, maybe.
[0:00:31 – 0:00:33] Adam: I’m going to have to disagree with your police work there, Lou.
[0:00:33 – 0:00:35] Adam: It never got above zero for me.
[0:00:35 – 0:00:36] Adam: Oh, wow.
[0:00:36 – 0:00:40] Adam: Yeah, it was straight up awful this morning for the dog walk.
[0:00:40 – 0:00:43] Erik: Is your blue light visible?
[0:00:44 – 0:00:46] Erik: It doesn’t sound right.
[0:00:46 – 0:00:48] Erik: No, you’re backwards there.
[0:00:48 – 0:00:49] Erik: Here we go.
[0:00:49 – 0:00:50] Erik: He’s spinning.
[0:00:51 – 0:00:52] Erik: Oh, yeah.
[0:00:53 – 0:00:56] Adam: I’m going to have to go ahead and disagree with you on your police work there, Lou.
[0:00:56 – 0:00:59] Erik: I’m going to have to disagree with you on your mic placement there.
[0:00:59 – 0:01:02] Adam: All right.
[0:01:02 – 0:01:03] Adam: Much better.
[0:01:03 – 0:01:03] Adam: Okay.
[0:01:03 – 0:01:07] Adam: We did get to see the Algoma Intrepid up here from the studio with the view.
[0:01:08 – 0:01:11] Adam: And it’s very windy out of the north right now.
[0:01:11 – 0:01:15] Adam: And there are some big boats hugging in close to the north shore.
[0:01:15 – 0:01:18] Erik: I had snow in the yard.
[0:01:18 – 0:01:18] Erik: Yes.
[0:01:19 – 0:01:20] Erik: And then…
[0:01:21 – 0:01:23] Erik: I don’t know, like three, four days ago.
[0:01:24 – 0:01:29] Erik: One of the five days this week where the wind just was crazy.
[0:01:29 – 0:01:30] Erik: It just all blew away.
[0:01:31 – 0:01:31] Erik: Bye.
[0:01:31 – 0:01:31] Erik: Gone.
[0:01:32 – 0:01:33] Erik: Just back down to grass.
[0:01:33 – 0:01:34] Erik: Yeah.
[0:01:34 – 0:01:34] Erik: Yeah.
[0:01:34 – 0:01:37] Erik: Where did it go?
[0:01:38 – 0:01:39] Erik: Back in the lake.
[0:01:39 – 0:01:40] Erik: Back into the lake, I guess.
[0:01:40 – 0:01:41] Adam: Back from whence you came.
[0:01:43 – 0:01:47] Adam: My official snow log is three inches this week, and it was very fluffy.
[0:01:47 – 0:01:50] Adam: Snow so fluffy, you can’t get enoughy.
[0:01:51 – 0:01:55] Adam: Brings us to 11, but I agree, it’s all mostly blown away.
[0:01:55 – 0:01:57] Adam: I haven’t even bothered to snow blow.
[0:01:57 – 0:02:01] Adam: I just drove on it and tried to pack it down so I’m not eating any more rocks.
[0:02:03 – 0:02:11] Adam: But then the neighbor, thank you very much to our kind neighbor, he plowed the road and now we look like derelicts because I haven’t snowblowed.
[0:02:12 – 0:02:12] Adam: And I’m fine with that.
[0:02:13 – 0:02:13] Adam: It’s okay.
[0:02:13 – 0:02:14] Adam: Because most of it’s blown away.
[0:02:15 – 0:02:20] Adam: Basically what happened here, I was like, eh, I’m not going to go out there and try to plow or shovel or whatever.
[0:02:20 – 0:02:26] Erik: And then like three days later, it all just blew out into the lake and we’re back down to dirt.
[0:02:27 – 0:02:27] Adam: Yeah.
[0:02:28 – 0:02:28] Adam: Dirt and grass.
[0:02:29 – 0:02:29] Adam: Nice and cold.
[0:02:30 – 0:02:30] Adam: Nine below.
[0:02:31 – 0:02:36] Erik: Bundle up the well because last year when we didn’t get snow, I didn’t do anything to it.
[0:02:36 – 0:02:39] Erik: And then the water froze one gray December morn.
[0:02:41 – 0:02:46] Erik: And so, yeah, that’s been buttoned up because of the cold mostly.
[0:02:47 – 0:02:52] Erik: But by Tuesday next week, we’re going to be in the 40s.
[0:02:53 – 0:02:53] Adam: Yeah.
[0:02:53 – 0:02:56] Adam: I got a couple of projects I’m lining up for that nice warm…
[0:02:57 – 0:03:01] Adam: It’s going to be like 60 degrees warmer than right now.
[0:03:01 – 0:03:02] Adam: Basically, yeah.
[0:03:02 – 0:03:02] Adam: Yeah, on Tuesday.
[0:03:02 – 0:03:03] Adam: That’s insane.
[0:03:04 – 0:03:08] Adam: Yeah, I’m going to get out the short shorts, and I got a couple vehicle projects I want to work on.
[0:03:09 – 0:03:09] Adam: Nice.
[0:03:10 – 0:03:12] Adam: Got some body work to get to.
[0:03:14 – 0:03:15] Erik: Pull some dents out.
[0:03:15 – 0:03:15] Adam: Yeah.
[0:03:17 – 0:03:17] Adam: Yeah.
[0:03:19 – 0:03:22] Adam: Yeah, but there’s been some pretty cool big boats out there in the last week.
[0:03:23 – 0:03:29] Adam: I don’t know what they’re thinking, being out there hauling around wind turbine blades in the ice.
[0:03:31 – 0:03:57] Erik: uh ridiculous ridiculous yeah no today’s a good day to be hugging the north shore and lake superior though if you’re a big boat we’ve only seen one go by i didn’t really see too much else on the uh the boat tracker to suggest that we would get too many more uh big chuggers going by but they’ve been they’ve been out there i can see their transducers icing up and they’re getting lost and maybe just maybe they uh just wander into a reef
[0:03:58 – 0:04:03] Adam: Not that we would wish that on them, but if it was going to happen, tonight’s the kind of night where it would.
[0:04:03 – 0:04:05] Adam: The electronics could go haywire.
[0:04:05 – 0:04:09] Erik: The question of the year is still up on the subreddit.
[0:04:09 – 0:04:12] Erik: It would be lovely to get a few more comments on there.
[0:04:12 – 0:04:12] Erik: That’s a good start.
[0:04:13 – 0:04:14] Erik: We’ve got one more week for that.
[0:04:15 – 0:04:19] Erik: We’ll be back in here a week from today, probably.
[0:04:20 – 0:04:21] Erik: On the darkest night of the year.
[0:04:21 – 0:04:22] Erik: Yep.
[0:04:22 – 0:04:24] Erik: Doing the question of the year.
[0:04:24 – 0:04:25] Erik: Where’d you go?
[0:04:25 – 0:04:29] Erik: Best, worst aspects of your time on the water.
[0:04:30 – 0:04:31] Erik: Looking forward to reading those.
[0:04:32 – 0:04:35] Adam: Tumblehomecast at gmail.com if you want to send a long form.
[0:04:35 – 0:04:40] Adam: I was just about to say, long form is an excellent way to answer this question.
[0:04:40 – 0:04:43] Adam: Pics, audio, video, dioramas.
[0:04:44 – 0:04:44] Adam: What else is there?
[0:04:45 – 0:04:45] Adam: Claymation.
[0:04:45 – 0:04:47] Adam: Claymation.
[0:04:47 – 0:04:50] Erik: Stand in the place where you are.
[0:04:51 – 0:04:56] Adam: Yeah, The Little Drummer Boy, gritty reboot.
[0:04:56 – 0:04:58] Adam: Gritty reboot of The Little Drummer Boy.
[0:04:58 – 0:05:00] Erik: I’m a big drumming man now, Dad.
[0:05:01 – 0:05:08] Adam: And it sounds like the plot for Clear Cut, which is the TCC film we’re going to tackle tonight.
[0:05:10 – 0:05:16] Adam: We’re going to try and keep all the bark on our legs and skin and trees while we do that TCC tonight.
[0:05:16 – 0:05:19] Erik: Yeah, we got two more TCCs tonight.
[0:05:19 – 0:05:27] Erik: Yeah, it’s probably going to be a while before you hear either of those, but they’ll be coming for our $5 a month Patreon subscribers.
[0:05:27 – 0:05:33] Erik: We got, what are we, last week we put out Awaken Fright.
[0:05:33 – 0:05:35] Erik: Yes, hope you all enjoyed that.
[0:05:35 – 0:05:37] Erik: If you haven’t seen that, highly recommend.
[0:05:38 – 0:05:40] Erik: Bonsai, Buckaroo Bonsai.
[0:05:41 – 0:05:42] Erik: Cross the eighth dimension.
[0:05:42 – 0:05:43] Erik: Cross the eighth dimension.
[0:05:44 – 0:05:45] Erik: And then tonight we are recording.
[0:05:45 – 0:05:47] Adam: We laid out all the different Johns.
[0:05:47 – 0:05:49] Adam: All the different Johns.
[0:05:49 – 0:05:49] Adam: Fully listed.
[0:05:49 – 0:05:50] Adam: We had a John ranker.
[0:05:50 – 0:05:50] Adam: Yeah.
[0:05:51 – 0:05:52] Adam: We ranked all the Johns.
[0:05:52 – 0:05:53] Adam: Yeah.
[0:05:53 – 0:05:55] Adam: You know, no surprise.
[0:05:55 – 0:05:56] Adam: John Big Boutte.
[0:05:57 – 0:05:58] Adam: Pretty highly ranked.
[0:05:58 – 0:05:59] Erik: I thought it was John.
[0:05:59 – 0:06:01] Erik: Wasn’t it John Gant that you were all high on?
[0:06:01 – 0:06:02] Adam: John Gant.
[0:06:02 – 0:06:02] Adam: Yeah.
[0:06:02 – 0:06:03] Adam: And John Grant.
[0:06:03 – 0:06:04] Adam: John Grant.
[0:06:04 – 0:06:05] Adam: Yeah.
[0:06:06 – 0:06:06] Adam: Conspiracy?
[0:06:06 – 0:06:06] Adam: Conspiracy.
[0:06:08 – 0:06:09] Adam: John Yaya.
[0:06:09 – 0:06:10] Erik: John Yaya.
[0:06:10 – 0:06:17] Erik: We’re talking about Werner Herzog’s 1982, in quotes, classic.
[0:06:18 – 0:06:19] Erik: Oh, yes.
[0:06:19 – 0:06:20] Erik: Fitzcarraldo.
[0:06:21 – 0:06:22] Erik: Two hours and 40 minutes.
[0:06:23 – 0:06:25] Erik: Could have shaved a few minutes off, I think.
[0:06:25 – 0:06:26] Erik: This guy’s insane.
[0:06:28 – 0:06:31] Erik: And then also, as Adam previously mentioned, clear cut.
[0:06:32 – 0:06:33] Erik: Filmed very close.
[0:06:33 – 0:06:37] Erik: Probably the closest in proximity to any TCC we’ve ever done.
[0:06:37 – 0:06:43] Adam: Closest TCC to the shed shooting location of all time.
[0:06:45 – 0:06:47] Erik: We had a lot of comments on both of those movies.
[0:06:47 – 0:06:50] Adam: Yeah, a lot of people were urging us to do Clear Cut.
[0:06:50 – 0:06:51] Adam: I know that.
[0:06:51 – 0:06:54] Adam: And it was free on YouTube, which is always appreciated.
[0:06:56 – 0:07:01] Erik: I really appreciated the four times speed adjustment when it came to watching Fitzcarraldo.
[0:07:01 – 0:07:02] Erik: You did?
[0:07:02 – 0:07:07] Erik: There was a couple of moments where I was like, I can tell this is going to be a long, drawn-out scene without much dialogue.
[0:07:07 – 0:07:12] Adam: Every time they got to opera singing, I always slowed it down.
[0:07:12 – 0:07:12] Erik: Slowed it way down?
[0:07:12 – 0:07:12] Erik: Yeah.
[0:07:13 – 0:07:34] Erik: negative even at normal speed that it like and it wasn’t out of uh let caruso sing eric yeah it wasn’t out of being so used because i didn’t do it very often but like man they talk so slow in that movie like you could just watch that movie at two times speed and it wouldn’t really sound that crazy you probably could
[0:07:36 – 0:07:39] Adam: But I was sitting by the wood stove and it was pretty cozy.
[0:07:39 – 0:07:40] Adam: I watched it at regular speed.
[0:07:40 – 0:07:41] Adam: There was no hurry.
[0:07:41 – 0:07:43] Adam: Like a heathen.
[0:07:44 – 0:07:44] Adam: Pretty good.
[0:07:44 – 0:07:45] Adam: I thought it was a documentary.
[0:07:45 – 0:07:47] Adam: It turns out it was not.
[0:07:47 – 0:07:47] Erik: No.
[0:07:48 – 0:07:49] Adam: Werner Herzog.
[0:07:49 – 0:07:51] Erik: There’s a documentary about the making of the movie.
[0:07:51 – 0:07:55] Adam: I have a clip from that saved about him talking about the jungle.
[0:07:55 – 0:07:56] Adam: I want to play for you on this TCC.
[0:07:56 – 0:07:58] Erik: There’s an insane…
[0:07:58 – 0:08:05] Erik: It’s like up there with Apocalypse Now in terms of how crazy the onset… People died.
[0:08:07 – 0:08:07] Erik: Filming this?
[0:08:08 – 0:08:08] Erik: Yes.
[0:08:08 – 0:08:09] Erik: Some locals died.
[0:08:11 – 0:08:17] Erik: Werner Herzog tried burning down the house of the main actor, Fitzy.
[0:08:17 – 0:08:22] Erik: He’s basically his go-to, at least in the 70s and 80s.
[0:08:22 – 0:08:24] Erik: He cast him in basically every one of his movies.
[0:08:24 – 0:08:26] Erik: Why did he try and burn his house down?
[0:08:26 – 0:08:27] Erik: That’s a good question.
[0:08:27 – 0:08:30] Erik: We’ll get into it in the TCC.
[0:08:30 – 0:08:31] Erik: Now I’m intrigued.
[0:08:32 – 0:08:33] Adam: You got me.
[0:08:33 – 0:08:34] Adam: You really got me good.
[0:08:34 – 0:08:34] Adam: Yeah.
[0:08:35 – 0:08:44] Erik: Anytime you just end up in the jungles of Peru trying to haul a boat from one river over to another in like real time.
[0:08:44 – 0:08:47] Erik: Like, no, we’re not just going to like make it look like we’re doing it.
[0:08:47 – 0:08:48] Erik: We’re actually going to do it.
[0:08:48 – 0:08:49] Erik: Yeah.
[0:08:49 – 0:08:51] Erik: You’re going to crush a local child.
[0:08:52 – 0:08:53] Adam: It’s going to happen.
[0:08:53 – 0:08:53] Adam: Yeah.
[0:08:53 – 0:08:54] Erik: What’s the price of doing business?
[0:08:55 – 0:08:55] Erik: It’s Hollywood, baby.
[0:08:56 – 0:08:57] Erik: Hollywood in the jungles of Peru.
[0:09:03 – 0:09:08] Adam: Well, you know, I did not know that about the movie, but I mean, it looks legit.
[0:09:10 – 0:09:10] Adam: Yeah.
[0:09:10 – 0:09:13] Adam: I can’t imagine building that kind of size gears and wheels.
[0:09:13 – 0:09:14] Adam: The apparatus.
[0:09:14 – 0:09:17] Adam: How do you even acquire ropes of that sort?
[0:09:17 – 0:09:17] Adam: Yeah.
[0:09:18 – 0:09:18] Erik: I don’t know.
[0:09:19 – 0:09:19] Adam: You forge them.
[0:09:19 – 0:09:20] Adam: You forge them.
[0:09:21 – 0:09:21] Adam: Forged rope.
[0:09:21 – 0:09:22] Adam: In the sand.
[0:09:23 – 0:09:24] Adam: Yeah.
[0:09:24 – 0:09:26] Adam: Same way you make a propeller, Eric.
[0:09:26 – 0:09:26] Erik: Yep.
[0:09:26 – 0:09:33] Erik: You just pour a bunch of hot metal into a box of straw in the shape of a propeller.
[0:09:34 – 0:09:35] Adam: Yeah, it all comes out right.
[0:09:35 – 0:09:35] Adam: Yep.
[0:09:36 – 0:09:38] Adam: Actually, we made this propeller in reverse.
[0:09:39 – 0:09:39] Erik: No, no.
[0:09:40 – 0:09:40] Erik: Reverse is forward.
[0:09:40 – 0:09:41] Adam: We have to dig it again.
[0:09:42 – 0:09:43] Erik: Forward is reverse.
[0:09:43 – 0:09:44] Adam: All right.
[0:09:44 – 0:09:47] Adam: Well, that’s the end of the Snow Log episode.
[0:09:47 – 0:09:49] Adam: Have you seen any big boats out there?
[0:09:50 – 0:09:52] Adam: Have you seen any foxes in the wood?
[0:09:52 – 0:09:55] Adam: Hit us up at tumblehomecast at gmail.com.
[0:09:55 – 0:10:00] Adam: Until next week, remember, friends, snow takes many forms.
