[0:00:52 – 0:00:54] Adam: We’ve been doing this for four years.
[0:00:54 – 0:00:55] Adam: In the sea.
[0:00:57 – 0:01:00] Adam: Tonight’s Ronald Shara outdoor calendar fact of the day.
[0:01:00 – 0:01:03] Adam: Wow, right into it.
[0:01:03 – 0:01:10] Adam: For February 8th, 2022, great horned owls are nesting since it’s at 531 p.m. Really?
[0:01:10 – 0:01:11] Adam: Yeah, 531.
[0:01:12 – 0:01:13] Adam: But this is tumble home.
[0:01:14 – 0:01:15] Adam: After dark.
[0:01:15 – 0:01:17] SPEAKER_00: After dark.
[0:01:18 – 0:01:20] Adam: Oh, got a little.
[0:01:20 – 0:01:25] Erik: Would after dark for an owl be during the day?
[0:01:25 – 0:01:25] Erik: No.
[0:01:26 – 0:01:28] Adam: Yeah, owls get excited for daylight.
[0:01:28 – 0:01:28] Erik: Yeah.
[0:01:29 – 0:01:31] Erik: It’s the sexy hour for the owls.
[0:01:32 – 0:01:35] Adam: This is… Yeah, after dark for them just means daylight.
[0:01:35 – 0:01:35] Adam: Yeah.
[0:01:35 – 0:01:37] Adam: After the dark’s over, it’s light.
[0:01:38 – 0:01:39] Erik: The sun’s up.
[0:01:39 – 0:01:41] Erik: Welcome to owl chat.
[0:01:45 – 0:01:46] Erik: Blue skies.
[0:01:46 – 0:01:47] Erik: Blue skies.
[0:01:48 – 0:01:50] Adam: What are the ovals called?
[0:01:50 – 0:01:50] Adam: The strigiforms.
[0:01:50 – 0:01:52] Adam: The strigiform podcast?
[0:01:52 – 0:01:54] Adam: The strigiform stream.
[0:01:55 – 0:01:56] Adam: Strigstream.
[0:01:56 – 0:01:57] Erik: It’s blue skies.
[0:01:58 – 0:01:58] Erik: Strigstream.
[0:01:58 – 0:01:59] Adam: Oh, no.
[0:02:02 – 0:02:25] Erik: got a secondary ronald share a fact of the day for you eric i got a i got the wordle in one i got the wordle in one today eric i got the world in one oh my god i don’t know anything about wordle you don’t i by by just generally being a human i’m aware of the concept but i don’t have twitter i don’t have any of the little you can’t just twitter either well i mean how do you play it then
[0:02:26 – 0:02:53] Adam: it’s like just a website it’s actually a pretty old school looking website oh well then you’re probably right in your groove house then yeah it is it’s real old school web one kind of crap and you plug in you get it’s a five letter word we don’t need to explain Wordle to the listeners does anybody out there listening understand what Wordle is it’s yeah I got it in one which is incredible that is pretty crazy I’m officially retired both from Wordle and from everything I’m done I don’t like that you can only play once a day
[0:02:54 – 0:02:55] Adam: Yeah, that’s part of the fun.
[0:02:55 – 0:02:58] Adam: So you do know what the Wordle is then.
[0:02:58 – 0:02:59] Erik: I mean, yeah, I know.
[0:02:59 – 0:03:06] Erik: I listen to podcasts and consume relatively up-to-date pop culture comments on the world.
[0:03:06 – 0:03:10] Erik: So yeah, it’s hard to not know that Wordle is a thing.
[0:03:10 – 0:03:11] Adam: So you didn’t play today.
[0:03:12 – 0:03:12] Erik: I never play.
[0:03:12 – 0:03:14] Erik: I just do my New York Times crossword puzzles.
[0:03:14 – 0:03:15] Adam: Do you like crossword?
[0:03:15 – 0:03:16] Adam: Do you love it?
[0:03:16 – 0:03:18] Adam: New York Times bought out the Wordle gang.
[0:03:19 – 0:03:21] Adam: And it’s probably going behind a paywall soon.
[0:03:21 – 0:03:23] Adam: So I’m glad I’m done, honestly.
[0:03:23 – 0:03:24] Adam: But I played for a week.
[0:03:24 – 0:03:25] Adam: I got seven days streak.
[0:03:25 – 0:03:27] Adam: Hit it on one today.
[0:03:27 – 0:03:28] Adam: And I just walked out of work.
[0:03:28 – 0:03:29] Adam: I just, I’m done.
[0:03:29 – 0:03:30] Erik: That’s insane.
[0:03:30 – 0:03:31] Adam: I go to bed.
[0:03:31 – 0:03:32] Adam: What was the word?
[0:03:33 – 0:03:33] Adam: Frame.
[0:03:34 – 0:03:35] Adam: I’m frame us, Eric.
[0:03:35 – 0:03:59] Adam: wow wow i guess around one i here’s a quick story and then we’ll move on i saw a youtube video i’ve been playing it for six days going into today i saw a youtube video it was like 38 minutes long um that crane was the best opener to start with you watched 40 minutes i didn’t watch the whole thing i just literally watched the first word to guess is i’m not getting into the saber metrics on why crane is the best opener
[0:04:00 – 0:04:02] Adam: But so I was doing crane all week.
[0:04:02 – 0:04:04] Adam: I guess I saw this a few days ago.
[0:04:04 – 0:04:07] Adam: I played crane like three days in a row as my opener.
[0:04:08 – 0:04:10] Adam: And it’s an all right one.
[0:04:10 – 0:04:12] Adam: You know, I kept my streak alive, but it wasn’t amazing.
[0:04:12 – 0:04:19] Adam: So then I was about to type in crane this morning and I was like, nah, I’m going to mix it up because they probably saw the video.
[0:04:19 – 0:04:20] Adam: They’re not going to pick crane as the word.
[0:04:21 – 0:04:24] Adam: And so I was like, well, I want something with an A and an E in it for sure.
[0:04:25 – 0:04:27] Adam: You don’t want to get the vowels kind of hammered out right away.
[0:04:28 – 0:04:33] Adam: So I went with frame and it was like green, green, green, green, green, genius, genius.
[0:04:33 – 0:04:34] Adam: It called me a genius.
[0:04:34 – 0:04:37] Adam: And like I said, I spiked my phone and I walked out.
[0:04:37 – 0:04:41] Erik: Do they keep track of how many people got it on the first try?
[0:04:41 – 0:04:42] Adam: Not that I can figure out.
[0:04:42 – 0:04:44] Erik: See, they need a bear…
[0:04:44 – 0:04:45] Adam: It’s got to be pretty rare, though.
[0:04:45 – 0:04:48] Erik: Yeah, they need a bear grease leaderboard to see the top 100.
[0:04:49 – 0:04:53] Adam: There’s like 12,979 words in the wordle.
[0:04:54 – 0:04:55] Adam: It’s five-letter words.
[0:04:55 – 0:04:58] Adam: And there’s, you know, you can’t just plug in nonsense.
[0:04:58 – 0:04:59] Adam: It’ll call you on it.
[0:04:59 – 0:05:01] Erik: So you got one out of 12,000?
[0:05:01 – 0:05:04] Adam: One out of almost 13,000, really.
[0:05:04 – 0:05:06] Erik: I’m less impressed now, actually.
[0:05:06 – 0:05:07] Adam: Oh.
[0:05:08 – 0:05:31] Adam: it’s 0.00007 chance of guessing it on your first try so i mean i’m never i could play the rest of my life i’d never get it again so i’m never i’m done i’m officially retired from wordle good it was a good feeling you know i bet everybody works pretty jealous or they’re really of their ceiling they’re sick of the you know the parading around probably in the
[0:05:32 – 0:05:34] Adam: I was flapping my arms like a bird.
[0:05:34 – 0:05:39] Erik: Took a screenshot, shared it to the Instagram page on the co-op.
[0:05:40 – 0:05:44] Adam: Yeah, I grabbed a cup full of quinoa and walked her out the back door.
[0:05:44 – 0:05:47] Erik: I mean, that’s operating standard right there.
[0:05:47 – 0:05:49] Erik: Grab a cup of quinoa and walk out the back door.
[0:05:49 – 0:05:50] Adam: Pretty big day already for me.
[0:05:50 – 0:05:52] Adam: And now it’s also a tumble home day.
[0:05:52 – 0:05:56] Adam: So, I mean, it just keeps getting better here in Studio K2.
[0:05:56 – 0:06:18] Erik: yeah we are uh yeah k2 after dark it was uh a decent day out on the the trails today got some skiing in mid 30s mid 30s yeah it was uh in the sun mid 30s there was some smells i smelled a thing or two wow
[0:06:19 – 0:06:26] Erik: Yeah, still generally being beaten down by the winter, but I did my best to fight back.
[0:06:27 – 0:06:41] Erik: And we are now going to get to our beer sponsorship, which is going to hopefully bring us back or bring us towards the open water, blue skies.
[0:06:43 – 0:06:49] Erik: warm temperatures, the smells of SPF, water.
[0:06:50 – 0:06:54] Adam: Yeah, and this is now back to Tumble Home After Light.
[0:06:54 – 0:06:55] Erik: Yeah.
[0:06:56 – 0:06:57] Erik: Our beer sponsorship this week.
[0:06:58 – 0:07:00] Adam: How many old calls are we going to get in this episode?
[0:07:01 – 0:07:01] Adam: Stop it.
[0:07:02 – 0:07:07] Adam: Well, you already cracked yours, so we don’t get stereo.
[0:07:07 – 0:07:08] Adam: I mean, I can get you another one.
[0:07:08 – 0:07:09] Adam: I’ll just crack another one.
[0:07:09 – 0:07:10] Adam: I can easily take down two.
[0:07:11 – 0:07:12] Erik: I was going to say, they’re at 4.7%.
[0:07:12 – 0:07:14] Adam: I think I can handle two.
[0:07:14 – 0:07:14] Erik: Thank you.
[0:07:14 – 0:07:16] Erik: These are from…
[0:07:18 – 0:07:41] Erik: keith keith and they’re lining kugels lemon haze ipas look at that a couple of kayakers a couple of cabins on the shoreline there looks it it looks like a darn terry redland painting looks idyllic eric impossible light yeah that’s some after light right there
[0:07:42 – 0:07:43] Erik: Lemon, haze.
[0:07:44 – 0:07:50] Adam: So for owls, they say when the sun comes up, they’re like, all right, it’s after light.
[0:07:50 – 0:07:51] Adam: Let’s get wild.
[0:07:53 – 0:07:54] Erik: And union made.
[0:07:56 – 0:07:56] Adam: Hey, look at that.
[0:07:57 – 0:07:58] Adam: Chippewa Falls.
[0:07:59 – 0:08:00] Adam: That’s pretty country.
[0:08:01 – 0:08:01] Adam: Landlark, though.
[0:08:02 – 0:08:14] Erik: Lemon Haze IPA is a deliciously balanced hazy IPA that brings together notes of juicy lemons with the citrusy bitterness of American and German hops.
[0:08:15 – 0:08:18] Erik: Enjoy our bright, citrusy, and refreshing…
[0:08:18 – 0:08:20] Erik: Lemon Haze IPA all year long.
[0:08:21 – 0:08:21] Erik: Thank you, Linies.
[0:08:21 – 0:08:22] Adam: All year long.
[0:08:22 – 0:08:24] Adam: It’s a legal crack then.
[0:08:26 – 0:08:27] Adam: Legal crack.
[0:08:27 – 0:08:28] Adam: It’s a legal crack.
[0:08:28 – 0:08:29] Erik: The judge of Karachi.
[0:08:30 – 0:08:30] Adam: I’ll allow it.
[0:08:30 – 0:08:31] Adam: I’ll allow it.
[0:08:31 – 0:08:32] Adam: Yep.
[0:08:32 – 0:08:35] Adam: The last time I had one of these was up in the, or down in the UP.
[0:08:36 – 0:08:37] Adam: That’s funny when you can say it that way.
[0:08:38 – 0:08:39] Adam: I was down in the upper.
[0:08:40 – 0:08:40] Adam: Down in the upper.
[0:08:41 – 0:08:43] Adam: This is a real old reversal episode.
[0:08:44 – 0:08:46] Adam: Yeah, last time I had these, it was down in the UP, though.
[0:08:46 – 0:08:48] Adam: And it was like 95 degrees.
[0:08:49 – 0:08:50] Adam: So complete opposite.
[0:08:50 – 0:08:51] Adam: It’s still good.
[0:08:51 – 0:08:57] Erik: What I would give for a 95-degree… Heat wave.
[0:08:57 – 0:08:58] Erik: Upper Peninsula heat wave.
[0:08:58 – 0:09:02] Adam: I got these out of the Super One in… What’s the town there?
[0:09:02 – 0:09:03] Adam: Ironwood?
[0:09:03 – 0:09:04] Adam: Sure.
[0:09:04 – 0:09:05] Adam: The big Super One.
[0:09:05 – 0:09:06] Erik: The big Super…
[0:09:06 – 0:09:07] Erik: I think it went in there.
[0:09:07 – 0:09:07] Adam: Oh, it’s a…
[0:09:07 – 0:09:10] Erik: It’s a normal-sized Super One.
[0:09:10 – 0:09:10] Erik: What?
[0:09:10 – 0:09:13] Erik: The one in Two Harbors might be bigger, but… Why?
[0:09:13 – 0:09:15] Adam: I don’t think so.
[0:09:17 – 0:09:39] Adam: gorgeous super one wandered around in the air conditioned super one for a good hour and change and uh came home with uh i think these were i think i had them they were in four packs of the tall boys though these are regular size boys same amount of beer just more can cracking potential yeah i love it and not as much of an opportunity for that last quarter or a third of the beer
[0:09:39 – 0:09:40] UNKNOWN: To go warm.
[0:09:41 – 0:09:43] Erik: You never want that, especially with a lemony one.
[0:09:44 – 0:09:44] Erik: Yeah.
[0:09:44 – 0:09:45] Erik: Especially with an IPA.
[0:09:45 – 0:09:46] Adam: It’d be unfortunate.
[0:09:46 – 0:09:48] Erik: No, you don’t.
[0:09:48 – 0:09:48] Erik: Very unfortunate.
[0:09:48 – 0:09:54] Erik: Also sponsored by our fine friends on Patreon.
[0:09:54 – 0:09:56] Erik: Thank you, patrons, for supporting us.
[0:09:57 – 0:10:05] Erik: Still, every so often, maybe once a month, maybe every couple of months, I get emails from people that are like, just found the show.
[0:10:05 – 0:10:06] Erik: I’m on episode 50.
[0:10:06 – 0:10:06] Erik: It’s crazy.
[0:10:06 – 0:10:07] Erik: I can’t wait to catch up.
[0:10:08 – 0:10:09] Erik: I’m like, whew, yeah.
[0:10:09 – 0:10:11] Adam: My sweet summer child.
[0:10:11 – 0:10:12] Adam: Just get a little hang on him.
[0:10:12 – 0:10:12] Adam: Oh, boy.
[0:10:12 – 0:10:14] Adam: It’s going to be a wild ride.
[0:10:15 – 0:10:16] Adam: Yeah.
[0:10:16 – 0:10:18] Adam: It is always weird when somebody is that far back.
[0:10:19 – 0:10:19] Adam: You’re only a 50.
[0:10:20 – 0:10:23] Adam: I can’t bring myself to listen to anything in the double digits even.
[0:10:24 – 0:10:26] Adam: I won’t.
[0:10:26 – 0:10:31] Adam: I guess I did go back and listen to Pronto 1, which was like 90s probably.
[0:10:31 – 0:10:33] Adam: Why can’t you do that?
[0:10:33 – 0:10:33] Adam: I don’t know.
[0:10:33 – 0:10:34] Adam: I’m a little scared.
[0:10:35 – 0:10:38] Erik: I think some of our best moments were in those first 50 episodes.
[0:10:38 – 0:10:38] Adam: You think so?
[0:10:39 – 0:10:42] Adam: I guess I really don’t want to listen to anything like 1 through 10.
[0:10:42 – 0:10:43] Erik: I’ll pass.
[0:10:43 – 0:10:44] Survivor: Yeah.
[0:10:44 – 0:10:46] Adam: We should probably scrub those from the internet.
[0:10:47 – 0:10:54] Erik: I mean, if things weren’t where they are now with Clearwater, I think if there’s any lake that deserves a revisit.
[0:10:54 – 0:10:56] Adam: We should redo episode 1.
[0:10:57 – 0:10:58] Erik: Well, episode 1 is just me.
[0:10:58 – 0:11:00] Erik: Episode 2 and 3 is Clearwater’s parts 1 and 2.
[0:11:04 – 0:11:08] Adam: Yeah, maybe for episode 200 we’ll redo the Clearwater episode.
[0:11:08 – 0:11:15] Erik: Yeah, just redo the first episode and then just call it quits.
[0:11:16 – 0:11:19] Erik: It’d be like Seinfeld.
[0:11:19 – 0:11:25] Erik: They’re sitting in the jail cell and they’re having that conversation and it’s the same conversation that they started the show with.
[0:11:26 – 0:11:28] Erik: That button to me, that’s in the wrong place.
[0:11:28 – 0:11:30] Survivor: Have we had this conversation before?
[0:11:30 – 0:11:31] Survivor: Yeah.
[0:11:31 – 0:11:31] Erik: Yeah.
[0:11:31 – 0:11:33] Adam: Yeah, I love that in a show.
[0:11:33 – 0:11:33] Adam: I don’t know.
[0:11:33 – 0:11:35] Adam: Everybody hated the end of…
[0:11:35 – 0:11:38] Adam: I liked the end of Seinfeld, and I liked the end of Lost.
[0:11:38 – 0:11:43] Erik: I didn’t mind the final episode of Seinfeld, but…
[0:11:43 – 0:11:44] Erik: It’s very poetic.
[0:11:44 – 0:11:52] Erik: More than anything else, outside of the actual content of that episode, I do appreciate going out on top and not just letting it kind of…
[0:11:53 – 0:11:54] Adam: That’s what I’m saying about Wordle.
[0:11:55 – 0:11:55] Adam: I’m never playing again.
[0:11:56 – 0:11:57] Adam: Why would I try again?
[0:11:57 – 0:11:58] Erik: Yeah, from your perspective on that front.
[0:11:58 – 0:12:01] Adam: I’ll literally just be filled with disappointment for the rest of my years.
[0:12:01 – 0:12:02] Erik: You’re done.
[0:12:02 – 0:12:02] Erik: Yeah.
[0:12:03 – 0:12:08] Erik: But yes, you can look forward to, as a $5 a month patron, we’re doing it.
[0:12:08 – 0:12:09] Erik: We’re finally getting back to it.
[0:12:11 – 0:12:12] Erik: Daniel Day-Lewis.
[0:12:12 – 0:12:12] Erik: Yeah.
[0:12:13 – 0:12:18] Erik: And the last of the Mohicans coming up probably next week.
[0:12:18 – 0:12:20] Erik: Eric’s done us right with this pick.
[0:12:20 – 0:12:21] Erik: Finally doing it.
[0:12:21 – 0:12:22] Erik: Neither of us have seen it, right?
[0:12:23 – 0:12:28] Adam: No, I’m pretty sure I’ve seen it, but this is like pre-VHS tape.
[0:12:29 – 0:12:29] Adam: Betamax?
[0:12:29 – 0:12:31] Adam: Yeah, I think I saw it on beta.
[0:12:31 – 0:12:31] Adam: You saw it on Betamax?
[0:12:31 – 0:12:33] Adam: I think it was on five betas.
[0:12:34 – 0:12:36] Erik: Yeah.
[0:12:36 – 0:12:38] Adam: A suitcase of beta tapes?
[0:12:38 – 0:12:40] Adam: I don’t think this is a rock fact.
[0:12:40 – 0:12:44] Adam: I’m pretty sure it’s not, but it’s not that long.
[0:12:44 – 0:12:47] Adam: It’s not like Dances with Wolves.
[0:12:47 – 0:12:49] Erik: I have no idea, but I would guess two hours plus.
[0:12:52 – 0:13:15] Adam: it has to be i was trying to look to i was going to try and watch it the other night and i was looking for it and there i didn’t realize there was two older versions on film of the last of the makings plus of course the the book yeah i’m gonna read the book james fenimore cooper you are gonna read it no i’m not a middle name fenimore right that’s a good one smokes gus
[0:13:17 – 0:13:17] Erik: Yeah.
[0:13:17 – 0:13:18] Erik: Pretty nice.
[0:13:18 – 0:13:23] Erik: It almost seems like the book was just bound to be good based on that last name.
[0:13:23 – 0:13:24] Erik: Yeah, for sure.
[0:13:24 – 0:13:25] Erik: Middle name.
[0:13:25 – 0:13:26] Erik: Whole name.
[0:13:27 – 0:13:33] Adam: So, yeah, there’s at least three different Last of the Mohican movies, but we’re going to watch the most modern.
[0:13:34 – 0:13:36] Erik: The early 90s one?
[0:13:36 – 0:13:39] Adam: Yeah, 92, 98, somewhere in there.
[0:13:39 – 0:13:39] Adam: 95?
[0:13:39 – 0:13:41] Erik: Somewhere between 1992 and 98.
[0:13:42 – 0:13:44] Erik: That’s my guess.
[0:13:45 – 0:13:46] Adam: I think I have it in the notes here somewhere.
[0:13:46 – 0:13:46] Adam: Yeah.
[0:13:47 – 0:14:12] Adam: anyhow that’s the pick and uh i’m i’m pretty certain i can make my pick as well right now wow you’re doing you’re gonna we’re teasing out the whole month of february here yeah i’m gonna like well we’re probably gonna record both of these next week uh well you know or not we’ll see sometime in february we’ll record them and release them i’m gonna go with uh the complete opposite of last of the mohicans that’s cowboys and aliens 2011.
[0:14:13 – 0:14:14] Erik: Never even heard of it.
[0:14:14 – 0:14:15] Adam: You’ve never heard of Cowboys and Aliens?
[0:14:16 – 0:14:16] Adam: No.
[0:14:16 – 0:14:17] Adam: Jean Favreau?
[0:14:17 – 0:14:18] Erik: I’ve heard of him.
[0:14:18 – 0:14:20] Erik: Yeah.
[0:14:20 – 0:14:20] Adam: He’s pretty big.
[0:14:21 – 0:14:21] Adam: He is in it.
[0:14:21 – 0:14:23] Adam: He’s a director.
[0:14:23 – 0:14:23] Adam: I don’t know.
[0:14:23 – 0:14:24] Adam: I think he directs it.
[0:14:25 – 0:14:25] Erik: Okay.
[0:14:25 – 0:14:28] Erik: So that’s just a name associated with the movie.
[0:14:29 – 0:14:29] Adam: He directs it.
[0:14:30 – 0:14:30] Adam: Okay.
[0:14:30 – 0:14:31] Adam: He’s a serious director, Eric.
[0:14:32 – 0:14:32] Erik: He directed it.
[0:14:32 – 0:14:32] Erik: Oh, I know.
[0:14:32 – 0:14:33] Adam: He’s also an actor.
[0:14:34 – 0:14:35] Adam: Well, not anymore.
[0:14:35 – 0:14:38] Erik: When was the last time Favreau has actually been in something?
[0:14:38 – 0:14:39] Erik: He was in Chef.
[0:14:40 – 0:14:40] Erik: Was he?
[0:14:40 – 0:14:42] Erik: Yes, he was the chef.
[0:14:42 – 0:14:43] Erik: In Chef?
[0:14:43 – 0:14:44] Erik: In Chef, yes.
[0:14:44 – 0:14:46] Adam: He made Cubans with his daughter.
[0:14:46 – 0:14:47] Adam: Wow, that’s pretty touching.
[0:14:48 – 0:14:48] Erik: Never seen that one?
[0:14:49 – 0:14:49] Adam: I haven’t.
[0:14:49 – 0:14:50] Adam: Maybe we’ll put that one on the list, too.
[0:14:51 – 0:14:53] Adam: Fat Row Month, every February.
[0:14:53 – 0:14:54] Erik: Do you remember Swingers?
[0:14:54 – 0:14:56] Adam: Yeah, that was like early 90s.
[0:14:57 – 0:14:59] Adam: No, that wasn’t early 90s.
[0:14:59 – 0:15:00] Adam: I think it was.
[0:15:00 – 0:15:01] Adam: That was back in… That was early 2000s.
[0:15:01 – 0:15:02] Erik: It was the other one.
[0:15:02 – 0:15:03] Adam: It was Vince Vaughn’s first movie.
[0:15:04 – 0:15:05] Erik: No, what was the other one?
[0:15:05 – 0:15:07] Erik: It was those same two characters.
[0:15:07 – 0:15:09] Erik: There was a two-part series.
[0:15:09 – 0:15:13] Erik: It wasn’t a series, but there was two movies based on those two guys.
[0:15:13 – 0:15:15] Erik: One of them was Swingers, and then there was another one.
[0:15:15 – 0:15:17] Adam: Was one of them playing poker in Boston or something?
[0:15:18 – 0:15:21] Erik: That’s Rounders with Matt Damon and John Malkovich.
[0:15:23 – 0:15:35] Adam: Well, Malkovich isn’t in it, but Harrison Ford’s in it, and the creepy preacher kid from There Will Be Blood, and the new Bond, whatever, Daniel Craig.
[0:15:36 – 0:15:37] Adam: The newest of the Bonds is in there.
[0:15:37 – 0:15:38] Adam: Cowboys vs. Aliens?
[0:15:39 – 0:15:41] Adam: Yeah, I think he’s an alien gunslinger, maybe.
[0:15:41 – 0:15:42] Adam: We’ll see.
[0:15:43 – 0:15:51] Adam: I’ve been promised there’s at least some gunfighting, maybe some camping involved, so I’m going with Cowboys vs. Aliens.
[0:15:53 – 0:15:53] Adam: I’m pretty excited.
[0:15:53 – 0:15:57] Adam: So, you know, it’s fun when it’s probably going to be pretty bad.
[0:15:57 – 0:15:59] Adam: I’m hoping it’s like at least half bad.
[0:15:59 – 0:16:02] Erik: Now I want to re-watch Rounders.
[0:16:03 – 0:16:05] Adam: I almost picked Wild Wild West.
[0:16:05 – 0:16:06] Adam: Oh, my God.
[0:16:06 – 0:16:07] Adam: I’m not doing that to you.
[0:16:07 – 0:16:13] Erik: I feel like I haven’t employed it, but everybody in this podcast should get at least one veto.
[0:16:14 – 0:16:15] Erik: I would veto that.
[0:16:15 – 0:16:19] Adam: Yeah, you tried to veto Phantom Thread and, you know, it turned out you enjoyed it, though.
[0:16:20 – 0:16:20] Erik: I did enjoy it.
[0:16:20 – 0:16:22] Erik: I don’t know if it made for a great conversation.
[0:16:22 – 0:16:22] Erik: $5 a month.
[0:16:23 – 0:16:23] Adam: What?
[0:16:23 – 0:16:24] Adam: I think it did.
[0:16:24 – 0:16:24] Adam: $5 a month.
[0:16:24 – 0:16:26] Survivor: Well, we talked about it for a half hour, like, this is a really good movie.
[0:16:27 – 0:16:28] Erik: Wasn’t it really great when that happened?
[0:16:28 – 0:16:29] Adam: Yeah, well, it’s too good.
[0:16:29 – 0:16:31] Adam: Sometimes they’re just too good.

[0:16:54 – 0:16:59] Adam: We’re slowly but surely getting through the list and always adding more.
[0:17:00 – 0:17:02] Adam: Eric’s looking up rounders facts now.
[0:17:02 – 0:17:11] Adam: You can also hit us up on the Internet via electronic mail, tumblehomecast at gmail.com.
[0:17:11 – 0:17:18] Adam: Eric will be checking those diligently, and you can make your suggestions there.
[0:17:18 – 0:17:24] Adam: I did snowball pretty hard, and I broke my way back into the tumble shed the other night just to look at the whiteboard.
[0:17:25 – 0:17:27] Adam: How did Napoleon Dynamite get on the list?
[0:17:27 – 0:17:28] Erik: I don’t remember.
[0:17:28 – 0:17:30] Adam: I mean, there’s definitely no camping.
[0:17:32 – 0:17:32] Adam: There’s no fishing.
[0:17:33 – 0:17:36] Adam: And very little paddling.
[0:17:36 – 0:17:38] Adam: A lot of good dance moves, though.
[0:17:38 – 0:17:39] Adam: So maybe that was it.
[0:17:39 – 0:17:41] Adam: I’m not sure when that one got put on the list.
[0:17:41 – 0:17:45] Adam: But that was right next to Last of the Mohicans on the whiteboard, Eric.
[0:17:46 – 0:17:46] Adam: Believe it or not.
[0:17:47 – 0:17:56] Erik: That was the quote I was looking for because I had the line from Teddy KGB, straight up at the end of the movie.
[0:17:57 – 0:17:57] Erik: He beat me.
[0:17:57 – 0:17:59] Adam: That’s a really nice Teddy accent.
[0:17:59 – 0:18:00] Adam: He beat me.
[0:18:00 – 0:18:00] Adam: Nailed it.
[0:18:00 – 0:18:01] Erik: Straight up.
[0:18:01 – 0:18:02] Erik: Pay him.
[0:18:03 – 0:18:04] Erik: Pay that man his money.
[0:18:04 – 0:18:07] Erik: I just always remember I used to quote the straight up.
[0:18:07 – 0:18:08] Erik: Straight up.
[0:18:08 – 0:18:10] Erik: Wow.
[0:18:10 – 0:18:12] Erik: John Malkovich is truly a treasure.
[0:18:12 – 0:18:13] Erik: Yeah, for sure.
[0:18:13 – 0:18:15] Erik: We should just do a Malkovich month.
[0:18:16 – 0:18:17] Erik: Malkovich month in March.
[0:18:18 – 0:18:19] Erik: 3M month.
[0:18:19 – 0:18:20] Erik: It’s writing itself.
[0:18:21 – 0:18:21] Adam: March-a-vin.
[0:18:23 – 0:18:24] Erik: March-a-vich?
[0:18:25 – 0:18:27] Erik: Being March Malkovich.
[0:18:27 – 0:18:28] Erik: Being John Marchovich.
[0:18:29 – 0:18:29] Adam: Nailed it.
[0:18:29 – 0:18:32] Adam: Yeah, that sounds great.
[0:18:32 – 0:18:34] Adam: Got a comment off the subreddit.
[0:18:34 – 0:18:42] Adam: Anybody out there listening to the show, episode 181, we have a subreddit you can check out.
[0:18:42 – 0:18:44] Adam: It’s on the reddit.com.
[0:18:45 – 0:18:46] Adam: Tumble Home.
[0:18:47 – 0:18:48] Adam: Our Tumble Home cast.
[0:18:49 – 0:18:50] Adam: Yeah, that’s the address.
[0:18:50 – 0:18:53] Erik: I think we’re three away from 700 followers.
[0:18:53 – 0:18:54] Adam: Yeah, we probably hit it by now.
[0:18:55 – 0:18:56] Adam: No Squatchos eating.
[0:18:57 – 0:19:11] Adam: User Highway J chimed in saying that Bear Grylls champion Ryan Anderson had a bush latte in hand during his entire Victory Lane interview.
[0:19:11 – 0:19:12] Adam: I did see that.
[0:19:12 – 0:19:16] Adam: On iFanTV, which I tried to go find.
[0:19:17 – 0:19:17] Adam: No archives.
[0:19:18 – 0:19:19] Adam: You can’t find the archives on that.
[0:19:19 – 0:19:20] Adam: Live only.
[0:19:20 – 0:19:20] Adam: Yep.
[0:19:21 – 0:19:22] Adam: What the hell is going on there?
[0:19:22 – 0:19:22] Adam: I don’t know.
[0:19:23 – 0:19:24] Adam: It’s like Snapchat.
[0:19:24 – 0:19:25] Adam: I guess so, yeah.
[0:19:25 – 0:19:27] Adam: Deletes itself after five minutes.
[0:19:28 – 0:19:30] Adam: This message will self-destruct.
[0:19:31 – 0:19:33] Adam: So you can drink as many Bush Latte’s on there as you want.
[0:19:34 – 0:19:37] Adam: But clearly, clearly, it was probably a…
[0:19:38 – 0:19:41] Adam: 80% chance that was a Pronto bush latte.
[0:19:41 – 0:19:42] Adam: Was it at the finish?
[0:19:42 – 0:19:45] Adam: At the finish, though, you must have had some sort of cooler set up in there.
[0:19:46 – 0:19:46] Adam: It’s like hours.
[0:19:46 – 0:19:47] Adam: Or in the pouch, maybe.
[0:19:48 – 0:19:48] Erik: After going by Pronto.
[0:19:48 – 0:19:51] Adam: Yeah, you put that in the pouch, that’ll be this perfect keeping temperature.
[0:19:51 – 0:19:52] Adam: That’s an easy keeper.
[0:19:52 – 0:19:54] Adam: You put it in the pouch, Eric.
[0:19:54 – 0:19:57] Erik: Yeah, that episode title is not referring to dogs.
[0:19:57 – 0:19:59] Erik: It is referring to bush lights at 30 degrees.
[0:19:59 – 0:20:01] Erik: Perfect for sipping.
[0:20:01 – 0:20:06] Erik: What are you going to give this line in Kugel’s lemony, hazy IPA?
[0:20:07 – 0:20:08] Erik: Um…
[0:20:11 – 0:20:14] Adam: I’m going to give it a three out of five mmms.
[0:20:16 – 0:20:16] Adam: Mmms.
[0:20:17 – 0:20:21] Adam: Yeah, it’s definitely not as good in the winter.
[0:20:21 – 0:20:22] Adam: I’m going to say it.
[0:20:22 – 0:20:25] Adam: If this was in the middle of summer, probably going to get a higher grade.
[0:20:25 – 0:20:27] Adam: That’s not Keith’s fault.
[0:20:29 – 0:20:31] Adam: But, you know, I mean, you got to wait your turn.
[0:20:32 – 0:20:35] Adam: We’re going to wait all the way until next summer to crack these, Keith.
[0:20:35 – 0:20:35] Adam: Can’t.
[0:20:36 – 0:20:37] Adam: Just sometimes the timing isn’t right.
[0:20:38 – 0:20:39] Adam: I still appreciate it, though.
[0:20:39 – 0:20:40] Erik: Can’t not, won’t not.
[0:20:41 – 0:20:41] Erik: Are you going to give it?
[0:20:41 – 0:20:52] Erik: Yeah, I’ll say six and a half black moldy pontoon cushions baking under the hot midday sun out of ten.
[0:20:55 – 0:20:55] Adam: Yeah.
[0:20:56 – 0:20:56] Adam: Yeah.
[0:20:56 – 0:21:00] Adam: There’s a lot of… That’s Reservoir County down there.
[0:21:01 – 0:21:02] Adam: Reservoir Country.
[0:21:05 – 0:21:06] Erik: What are we talking about tonight?
[0:21:07 – 0:21:09] Erik: We’re appetizer.
[0:21:09 – 0:21:12] Erik: We have crossed the threshold from appetizer into meat.
[0:21:14 – 0:21:16] Erik: And you are my tour guide.
[0:21:17 – 0:21:18] Adam: To the meat?
[0:21:19 – 0:21:19] Adam: Okay.
[0:21:19 – 0:21:21] Erik: Yeah, it’s the…
[0:21:21 – 0:21:22] Erik: I’m your tour guide to meat.
[0:21:22 – 0:21:27] Erik: Yeah, it’s the… You come into that back… You actually get to go into the kitchen.
[0:21:27 – 0:21:29] Erik: This is a tasting menu.
[0:21:29 – 0:21:31] Erik: You don’t get to make any choices.
[0:21:31 – 0:21:32] Erik: This is just what you’re getting.
[0:21:32 – 0:21:33] Erik: Yeah.
[0:21:33 – 0:21:34] Erik: I’m excited.
[0:21:35 – 0:21:36] Erik: Usually you curate good things.
[0:21:37 – 0:21:39] Erik: Your little smokies last year were great.
[0:21:40 – 0:21:40] Adam: Thank you.
[0:21:41 – 0:21:42] Adam: The secrets.
[0:21:42 – 0:21:43] Erik: Grape jelly.
[0:21:45 – 0:21:46] Adam: That is the secret.
[0:21:46 – 0:21:47] Adam: Yeah, you just gave it away.
[0:21:50 – 0:21:52] Adam: Are you wanting to go right to the meat?
[0:21:52 – 0:21:56] Adam: I don’t need to go right to the meat, but we could use… Well, we’ll give you a…
[0:21:56 – 0:22:00] Adam: The episode title probably gives it away, but who knows?
[0:22:00 – 0:22:02] Adam: Who knows what the episode title will end up being?
[0:22:02 – 0:22:07] Adam: Eric is sometimes erratic and doesn’t go with the meat for the episode title.
[0:22:07 – 0:22:07] Erik: Cracked?
[0:22:08 – 0:22:09] Adam: No.
[0:22:12 – 0:22:13] Adam: Peter Danklage.
[0:22:14 – 0:22:18] Adam: Gone off the deep end once again in Cracked Erratic.
[0:22:18 – 0:22:21] Adam: Coming to a theater near you this fall.
[0:22:21 – 0:22:22] Erik: Off the deep end again.
[0:22:22 – 0:22:25] Adam: He’s got a rose in the headlight of his motorcycle.
[0:22:27 – 0:22:28] Erik: Chains whipped.
[0:22:29 – 0:22:30] Erik: Cracked Erratic 2.
[0:22:30 – 0:22:34] Adam: Cracked Erratic 2 can’t get cracked too cracked enough.
[0:22:34 – 0:22:39] Adam: Oh no, we got back to Cracked Erratic.
[0:22:40 – 0:22:40] Adam: Oh, dear.
[0:22:40 – 0:22:47] Adam: We are going to be talking about skiing the pincushion loop tonight.
[0:22:47 – 0:22:51] Adam: I would say that’s the real meat of this episode.
[0:22:52 – 0:22:53] Adam: It’s a skiing episode.
[0:22:53 – 0:22:58] Adam: Eric and I went for a lovely ski this week, and we got a ton more snow.
[0:22:59 – 0:23:05] Adam: As a preview to that, I can give you a small preview on the snow and skiing talk.
[0:23:05 – 0:23:10] Adam: I do have one more side tangent I would like to get to before the meet, if that’s okay with you.
[0:23:10 – 0:23:11] Adam: So you’ve just teased the meet?
[0:23:11 – 0:23:21] Adam: But we did get nine inches of snow on Saturday at the house up at Old Studio K. Which is now converted into a full-time nursery for the baby boy.
[0:23:21 – 0:23:22] Adam: Yeah.
[0:23:22 – 0:23:35] Adam: You know, you can probably go ahead and close out the Wikipedia page on Studio K. The tumble shed is there to stay at this point, but it is not heated or insulated, hence the Studio K2 recordings you’re getting this winter.
[0:23:36 – 0:23:42] Adam: But nine inches of fresh snow on Saturday, and then Eric and I hit the trails on Sunday.
[0:23:43 – 0:24:05] Adam: and there’s a there’s a barrel of snow out there and uh it’s been really good skiing eric’s got some reports from the home trails i’ve been out doing some uh some little spur maintenance at the house but we did get out for a really nice ski on the pin cushion loop we’ll get to that before we talk about the skiing though eric i know you love coast to coast am
[0:24:06 – 0:24:09] Erik: You know, honestly, it’s one of those things that I just always… You love it.
[0:24:11 – 0:24:11] Erik: Sure.
[0:24:11 – 0:24:13] Erik: I love the concept of it.
[0:24:13 – 0:24:13] Erik: I love the idea.
[0:24:13 – 0:24:18] Erik: I’ve loved experiences I’ve had in the past where it does happen to come on.
[0:24:18 – 0:24:19] Erik: Yeah.
[0:24:19 – 0:24:20] Erik: But I’m not, like, tuning in.
[0:24:20 – 0:24:22] Erik: It has to be, like, a very special place.
[0:24:22 – 0:24:23] Erik: It’s nostalgia.
[0:24:23 – 0:24:27] Adam: It’s one of the best things you can possibly ever get on the hand crank radio.
[0:24:28 – 0:24:54] Adam: in camp though if you’re up late and uh hand crank radio it can be a lot of fun around the campfire but it’s even better i would say if you’re like driving uh 86 chevy celebrity through nashville at like four in the morning sure or maybe two in the morning you’re going you know just the middle of nowhere in in you’ll appreciate this in the dakotas
[0:24:54 – 0:24:55] Erik: Why would I appreciate that?
[0:24:55 – 0:24:58] Adam: Because you just drove through the Dakotas like in the last six months.
[0:24:58 – 0:25:00] Erik: Because I’ve driven through the Dakotas in my lifetime.
[0:25:00 – 0:25:03] Adam: So you know what it’s like to drive through the Dakotas in the middle of the night.
[0:25:04 – 0:25:05] Erik: I’ve never done that, actually.
[0:25:05 – 0:25:05] UNKNOWN: What?
[0:25:05 – 0:25:06] Adam: You did it in the daytime?
[0:25:07 – 0:25:07] Adam: Yes.
[0:25:07 – 0:25:09] Adam: You really effed up the timing on that one, brother.
[0:25:10 – 0:25:11] Erik: What are you doing?
[0:25:11 – 0:25:16] Erik: I need to lock eyes on those wind turbines.
[0:25:16 – 0:25:21] Adam: I swear to God, we were driving through Amish country in Indiana listening to Coast to Coast AM.
[0:25:21 – 0:25:21] Adam: I remember that.
[0:25:22 – 0:25:26] Erik: Yeah, we were off the… We were so stubborn.
[0:25:27 – 0:25:27] Adam: Way back in the day.
[0:25:28 – 0:25:29] Erik: We were like, I’m not taking the turnpike.
[0:25:29 – 0:25:31] Erik: I don’t want to give the government my money.
[0:25:32 – 0:25:34] Erik: So we’re on these side roads through Ohio.
[0:25:34 – 0:25:35] Adam: We still made pretty good time.
[0:25:35 – 0:25:37] Erik: Sure, yeah, but it was like… Buggies.
[0:25:37 – 0:25:38] Erik: A lot of buggies out there.
[0:25:38 – 0:25:39] Erik: Lots of buggies.
[0:25:39 – 0:25:40] Erik: Yeah.
[0:25:40 – 0:25:41] Adam: Be wary.
[0:25:41 – 0:25:42] Adam: Be wary out there.
[0:25:43 – 0:25:43] Adam: Oh, wow.
[0:25:43 – 0:25:46] Adam: I thought you were going to be more enthusiastic for Art Bell.
[0:25:46 – 0:25:48] Erik: I mean, yeah, I guess it depends on…
[0:25:48 – 0:25:49] Erik: It’s not even Art Bell anymore.
[0:25:49 – 0:25:50] Erik: George Norrie?
[0:25:50 – 0:25:51] Erik: Art Bell?
[0:25:51 – 0:25:53] Adam: George Norrie has taken over since 2000.
[0:25:53 – 0:25:56] Adam: So anytime that you and I have listened live, I’m sure it’s been Norrie.
[0:25:57 – 0:25:57] Adam: Yeah.
[0:25:57 – 0:25:58] Erik: I don’t have…
[0:25:58 – 0:26:00] Erik: I mean, I’m familiar with him.
[0:26:00 – 0:26:07] Erik: I’m excited that there is a station that exists like that, but I’m not like an enthusiast.
[0:26:09 – 0:26:11] Adam: I mean, yeah, I don’t stay up and listen to it every night.
[0:26:11 – 0:26:13] Adam: I’m not a subscriber.
[0:26:14 – 0:26:16] Adam: You know, you gotta pay to listen to the archives.
[0:26:16 – 0:26:17] Erik: Is it a podcast yet?
[0:26:18 – 0:26:23] Adam: Well, they have like one of those, it’s like a best of like little 30 minute show every day.
[0:26:24 – 0:26:25] Erik: Every day?
[0:26:25 – 0:26:28] Adam: They feature, and I think the show is on seven days a week.
[0:26:28 – 0:26:30] Adam: I’m not sure if the best of podcast is seven days a week.
[0:26:31 – 0:26:33] Adam: Maybe it’s only five days a week they do the best of podcast.
[0:26:33 – 0:26:35] Erik: The podcast is just the best of.
[0:26:35 – 0:26:43] Adam: It’s a 30 minute podcast and they give like, it’s literally like 10 minutes of content with a bunch of ads and just, you know, nonsense in between.
[0:26:44 – 0:26:44] Adam: And, uh, it,
[0:26:45 – 0:26:48] Adam: If you figure out how to scan through the ads, it’s all right.
[0:26:48 – 0:26:50] Erik: That sounds like a great experience.
[0:26:50 – 0:26:51] Adam: It’s not great.
[0:26:51 – 0:26:52] Adam: Figure out how to scan through the ads.
[0:26:53 – 0:26:56] Adam: They want you to sign up on their site to get the full archives.
[0:26:56 – 0:26:57] Erik: Sure.
[0:26:57 – 0:26:57] Erik: No, I get it.
[0:26:58 – 0:26:58] Erik: I understand.
[0:26:58 – 0:27:06] Adam: But then once in a while, the topic is interesting enough that I’ll download it and scan through the ads to get to it.
[0:27:06 – 0:27:09] Erik: What topics are you deeming interesting enough to download?
[0:27:09 – 0:27:11] Adam: There was one on the Havana Syndrome.
[0:27:11 – 0:27:12] Adam: There you go.
[0:27:12 – 0:27:16] Adam: Which is apparently it’s all in their head, Eric.
[0:27:16 – 0:27:17] Erik: I mean, the New Yorker’s reporting on it.
[0:27:17 – 0:27:18] Erik: It’s got to be legit.
[0:27:18 – 0:27:19] Adam: Yeah.
[0:27:19 – 0:27:20] Adam: Is that what you think?
[0:27:20 – 0:27:21] Erik: Is that what I think?
[0:27:21 – 0:27:22] Adam: Yeah, that’s all in their head.
[0:27:24 – 0:27:27] Adam: They basically send people into Cuba and they’re like, hey, don’t sleep near the windows, though.
[0:27:28 – 0:27:30] Adam: And tell us if you have any fatigue.
[0:27:30 – 0:27:37] Adam: And then they list off everything that could describe just general anxiety from being overseas, like as a spy.
[0:27:37 – 0:27:48] Adam: Hey, if you’re feeling weird or fatigued or tired or having headaches or heart palpitations or indigestion, make sure you tell us.
[0:27:48 – 0:27:49] Adam: And don’t sleep near the windows.
[0:27:50 – 0:27:53] Adam: And then they’re like, yeah, we’re getting a lot of people reporting these symptoms.
[0:27:53 – 0:27:54] Adam: It’s real weird.
[0:27:54 – 0:27:54] Adam: Spooky.
[0:27:54 – 0:27:56] Erik: I thought some of those symptoms…
[0:27:56 – 0:27:58] Adam: I think it’s kind of a self-fulfilling prophecy kind of deal.
[0:27:58 – 0:27:58] Erik: Sure.
[0:27:58 – 0:27:59] Erik: No, I get that.
[0:27:59 – 0:28:00] Erik: I can understand that.
[0:28:00 – 0:28:01] Erik: I’m not usually one to…
[0:28:01 – 0:28:05] Erik: I’m not prescribing really any explanation to this, but… Or it’s a sonic weapon.
[0:28:05 – 0:28:10] Erik: I thought some of them were experiencing long-term issues after they even came home.
[0:28:11 – 0:28:11] Adam: Yeah.
[0:28:11 – 0:28:11] Adam: I don’t know.
[0:28:12 – 0:28:13] Adam: You know, I’m not…
[0:28:14 – 0:28:14] Adam: I’m just saying.
[0:28:14 – 0:28:15] Adam: It was one of the episodes.
[0:28:16 – 0:28:17] Adam: I don’t want to… Yeah.
[0:28:17 – 0:28:18] Adam: I’m not here to debate.
[0:28:19 – 0:28:20] Adam: I’m not going to debate you.
[0:28:20 – 0:28:21] Erik: I’m not here to debate you, Jerry.
[0:28:22 – 0:28:22] Erik: This isn’t a debate.
[0:28:24 – 0:28:25] Adam: So there’s one, you know.
[0:28:26 – 0:28:31] Adam: Anyways, the old ones, though, are what I like.
[0:28:31 – 0:28:32] Adam: The old Art Bell archives.
[0:28:32 – 0:28:33] Adam: And there is like a…
[0:28:34 – 0:28:36] Adam: There is a podcast kind of set up.
[0:28:36 – 0:28:37] Adam: It’s called the…
[0:28:38 – 0:28:39] Adam: I have it here.
[0:28:39 – 0:28:41] Adam: The Art Bell Tape Vault.
[0:28:41 – 0:28:41] Adam: Wow.
[0:28:41 – 0:28:43] Adam: Maybe you can find that.
[0:28:43 – 0:28:44] Adam: Go ahead and…
[0:28:44 – 0:28:45] Adam: It’s worth your while.
[0:28:45 – 0:28:48] Adam: It’s like full archive shows from the olden days.
[0:28:48 – 0:28:49] Adam: Is it behind a paywall?
[0:28:49 – 0:28:53] Adam: No, this is just on… At least I’m getting it on Spotify.
[0:28:54 – 0:28:54] Adam: Free.
[0:28:55 – 0:28:56] Adam: Very little ads on there.
[0:28:56 – 0:29:00] Adam: They kind of like edit out everything except for all the commercial breaks are kind of edited out.
[0:29:01 – 0:29:04] Adam: Sometimes you get, like, a long, like, three-minute interlude where they’re just playing a song.
[0:29:05 – 0:29:07] Adam: But other than that, it’s enjoyable and the show.
[0:29:08 – 0:29:10] Adam: Art Bell hosted from 88 until 2000.
[0:29:10 – 0:29:13] Adam: These are, like, all old shows.
[0:29:13 – 0:29:13] Erik: Yep.
[0:29:15 – 0:29:19] Adam: So I was listening to one from 2002 called The Internet.
[0:29:22 – 0:29:24] Adam: The show is just on the internet.
[0:29:24 – 0:29:25] Adam: Like, what is it?
[0:29:25 – 0:29:25] UNKNOWN: Yeah.
[0:29:26 – 0:29:40] Adam: So, like, Art, well, for one, they always, usually it’s just, like, he does, like, current events and, like, maybe he’ll interview some, like, it’s more, like, lighthearted the first hour and then he’ll get to the meet in, like, hour four or five usually.
[0:29:40 – 0:29:41] Erik: Yeah.
[0:29:41 – 0:29:47] Adam: You’ve got to kind of, like, you can either listen to the whole thing or if you want to hear just about the internet, you’ve got to kind of, like, fast forward to the end.
[0:29:47 – 0:29:54] Erik: We should recalibrate our podcast and just start doing five, six hour full call-in episodes.
[0:29:54 – 0:29:57] Adam: Let’s just do, let’s like do like eight, six hour shows a year.
[0:29:58 – 0:29:59] Erik: Yeah, there you go.
[0:29:59 – 0:29:59] Erik: Like Dan Carlin.
[0:29:59 – 0:30:00] Adam: Long form.
[0:30:01 – 0:30:02] Erik: Hardcore history style?
[0:30:02 – 0:30:03] Erik: Mm-hmm.
[0:30:03 – 0:30:04] Erik: Every 10 months.
[0:30:05 – 0:30:08] Adam: Every 10 months, we release one 24-hour episode.
[0:30:08 – 0:30:09] Adam: Yeah.
[0:30:10 – 0:30:15] Adam: So, yeah, usually it’s like, okay, fast forward to the conversation on the internet first.
[0:30:16 – 0:30:17] Adam: Just skip the whole front part.
[0:30:17 – 0:30:21] Adam: It’s all news from 2002 that didn’t end up mattering.
[0:30:22 – 0:30:27] Adam: It’s like a bunch of nonsense, and then they finally talk about the internet, and he’s like, you know what?
[0:30:28 – 0:30:51] Adam: ebay it’s uh destroying the film industry that’s right wow you’re like what ebay is yeah apparently ebay destroyed the film industry according to art bell in 2002 interesting but anyways in this episode actually the beginning part was the best part because he interviewed mark burnett do you know who mark burnett is the guy that invented the tv show survivor
[0:30:51 – 0:30:53] Adam: Yeah, yeah, you know the one.
[0:30:53 – 0:30:53] Adam: Yeah.
[0:30:53 – 0:30:55] Adam: Always wears the safari hat.
[0:30:55 – 0:30:55] Erik: Yeah.
[0:30:56 – 0:30:56] Adam: Yeah.
[0:30:56 – 0:31:02] Adam: But anyways, he invented Survivor, which I don’t know if you care for the show or not.
[0:31:02 – 0:31:03] Adam: I haven’t watched it in a while.
[0:31:03 – 0:31:04] Adam: Apparently, it’s still on.
[0:31:04 – 0:31:07] Erik: I remember it used to be a pretty hardcore thing back in the day when it was on.
[0:31:07 – 0:31:08] Erik: It’s good television.
[0:31:08 – 0:31:16] Erik: People would have pools with friends where you’d bet, basically like fantasy mushing, where you’re like, this is my guy.
[0:31:16 – 0:31:16] Erik: Exactly.
[0:31:16 – 0:31:18] Erik: And you get more points for the longer they last.
[0:31:18 – 0:31:19] Erik: Yeah, I remember.
[0:31:19 – 0:31:21] Adam: I mean, really, it was like the original…
[0:31:22 – 0:31:22] Adam: Reality TV.
[0:31:24 – 0:31:27] Erik: I mean, that’s an interesting conversation in and of itself.
[0:31:27 – 0:31:31] Erik: Some would argue that Real World was probably the first.
[0:31:31 – 0:31:33] Adam: What about Road Rules?
[0:31:33 – 0:31:41] Erik: That is the dirty, dirty stepson of Real World that nobody ever talks about is Road Rules.
[0:31:42 – 0:31:42] Adam: Yeah.
[0:31:42 – 0:31:45] Adam: I haven’t thought about that show in a while.
[0:31:45 – 0:31:47] Adam: Yeah, it was good.
[0:31:47 – 0:31:49] Adam: That’s about 2002.
[0:31:49 – 0:31:50] Adam: That was probably on at this time.
[0:31:50 – 0:31:58] Erik: One of the best concepts in that show is they would obviously be in the RV on road trips with little games and stuff.
[0:31:58 – 0:31:59] Erik: Yeah.
[0:31:59 – 0:32:04] Erik: But then, inevitably, they would always have, for almost everybody involved, they’d be like…
[0:32:06 – 0:32:07] Erik: Oh, happen to be in Minnesota.
[0:32:07 – 0:32:09] Erik: I have family in Bloomington.
[0:32:09 – 0:32:15] Erik: And then there would be that one episode where everybody has to hang out in the one dude’s like parents house.
[0:32:15 – 0:32:15] Erik: Yeah.
[0:32:16 – 0:32:21] Erik: And it just is like super awkward because everybody’s like looking at family like pictures from when they were a youth.
[0:32:21 – 0:32:25] Erik: and obviously some things would come out.
[0:32:25 – 0:32:29] Erik: I don’t remember it being as much of a flashpoint of a show.
[0:32:30 – 0:32:36] Adam: Real World really did hone in on the… Yeah, I remember when Real World started kicking people out.
[0:32:37 – 0:32:37] Adam: Yeah, I was going to say.
[0:32:37 – 0:32:38] Adam: We’re voting you out of the house.
[0:32:38 – 0:32:45] Erik: Yeah, I don’t remember people getting slapped or hit or drunken tirades as much as Real World on road rules.
[0:32:45 – 0:32:47] Adam: You think they were really letting them drive that RV?
[0:32:47 – 0:32:47] Adam: Yeah.
[0:32:48 – 0:32:49] Adam: I mean, yeah.
[0:32:49 – 0:32:50] Adam: They show them driving it.
[0:32:50 – 0:32:50] Adam: I think so.
[0:32:50 – 0:32:51] Adam: For real, are they?
[0:32:51 – 0:32:52] Adam: Come on.
[0:32:53 – 0:32:56] Adam: Not anybody can handle the life of the road.
[0:32:56 – 0:33:00] Erik: Yeah, those are some class B Winnebago’s.
[0:33:00 – 0:33:04] Adam: They all had to get test rated and screened.
[0:33:07 – 0:33:11] Adam: Mark Burnett, part of the interview on there was talking about how they would screen out psychopaths.
[0:33:12 – 0:33:13] Adam: You want people who are honest.
[0:33:13 – 0:33:15] Adam: That makes the best television and the best stories.
[0:33:16 – 0:33:18] Adam: Truthful people who you can count on.
[0:33:19 – 0:33:24] Erik: Except for the guy from the first, I think it was the first season of Survivor, the one that manipulated the whole game.
[0:33:24 – 0:33:25] Erik: Yeah.
[0:33:25 – 0:33:27] Erik: Like that big paunchy dude.
[0:33:28 – 0:33:28] Erik: Now he’s the nude.
[0:33:28 – 0:33:29] Erik: Remember?
[0:33:29 – 0:33:30] Adam: The nude guy.
[0:33:30 – 0:33:31] Adam: The nude man.
[0:33:31 – 0:33:37] Adam: Yeah, he won like a Pontiac Aztec for, spoiler alert, what’s his name?
[0:33:37 – 0:33:38] Adam: What was his name?
[0:33:38 – 0:33:39] Adam: The nude guy.
[0:33:39 – 0:33:40] Adam: I don’t know.
[0:33:40 – 0:33:42] Adam: You might have to dig into the guy who won.
[0:33:42 – 0:33:42] Adam: Yeah.
[0:33:42 – 0:33:46] Erik: Was he the guy that passed out because he was blown on the fire too hard?
[0:33:47 – 0:33:49] Erik: Maybe.
[0:33:49 – 0:34:03] Erik: If there’s anything that I remember from that show is that if you’re ever stoking a fire, like blowing on it, you should always inhale after you turn your head away from it because this guy was blowing and then like breathing in smoke and then like passed out into the fire.
[0:34:04 – 0:34:11] Erik: I remember that specifically because they had to like, this wasn’t a thing that you would ever see unless it was a clear emergency.
[0:34:11 – 0:34:14] Erik: But like the emergency medical services had to get called.
[0:34:14 – 0:34:17] Erik: And then he got like, he had to go like sit in an ambulance for a little bit.
[0:34:18 – 0:34:18] Erik: Yeah.
[0:34:18 – 0:34:20] Adam: So maybe they’re not testing him for truthfulness.
[0:34:20 – 0:34:21] Adam: I think that was all an act.
[0:34:22 – 0:34:26] Adam: I think he got hospitalized on purpose for sympathy to try and get the votes of the jury.
[0:34:28 – 0:34:28] Adam: He gamed the system.
[0:34:28 – 0:34:30] Adam: I think he was savvy.
[0:34:30 – 0:34:35] Adam: I think there were more testing for people who were just not sociopaths, basically.
[0:34:35 – 0:34:37] Adam: Sure.
[0:34:37 – 0:34:40] Adam: You can play the game well and be trustworthy.
[0:34:41 – 0:34:42] Adam: It’s, you know, trust.
[0:34:42 – 0:34:43] Adam: It’s the name of the game, Eric.
[0:34:44 – 0:34:44] Adam: Okay.
[0:34:44 – 0:34:45] Adam: This isn’t about Survivor, though.
[0:34:46 – 0:34:51] Adam: What I completely forgot about, and the whole point of bringing this entire thing up, and shout out to Art Bell.
[0:34:52 – 0:34:52] Adam: Is he still?
[0:34:53 – 0:34:53] Adam: I don’t know.
[0:34:54 – 0:34:55] Adam: I think he’s dead.
[0:34:55 – 0:34:58] Adam: He’s up there with John Madden.
[0:34:58 – 0:35:01] Adam: I think we’ve declared a few people dead that aren’t dead on this show.
[0:35:01 – 0:35:02] Erik: Didn’t he commit suicide by cop?
[0:35:03 – 0:35:03] Erik: What?
[0:35:03 – 0:35:03] Erik: What?
[0:35:03 – 0:35:04] Erik: Art Bell?
[0:35:05 – 0:35:06] Erik: What?
[0:35:06 – 0:35:06] Erik: I don’t think so.
[0:35:06 – 0:35:07] Erik: I think so.
[0:35:07 – 0:35:08] Erik: Oh, dear.
[0:35:08 – 0:35:12] Erik: I think he pointed a gun at a police officer during a raid of some sort.
[0:35:12 – 0:35:13] Erik: Yeah.
[0:35:13 – 0:35:13] Adam: Okay.
[0:35:14 – 0:35:17] Adam: Well, we’ll bookmark that and come back to it at a later date.
[0:35:17 – 0:35:18] Adam: I’m not sure what happened.
[0:35:18 – 0:35:19] Erik: Tomohamcast.gmail.com.
[0:35:19 – 0:35:20] Adam: Yeah, let us know.
[0:35:20 – 0:35:22] Adam: Tomohamcast.instagram.com.
[0:35:22 – 0:35:24] Adam: Send us a message.
[0:35:24 – 0:35:25] Adam: Instagram.com.
[0:35:25 – 0:35:27] Adam: If you know what happened to Art Bell.
[0:35:28 – 0:35:29] Adam: I don’t think so.
[0:35:30 – 0:35:37] Adam: Anyways, Mark Burnett was on there, and he was also the producer of the show Eco Challenge.
[0:35:37 – 0:35:38] Adam: You remember this?
[0:35:38 – 0:35:40] Erik: No, that one’s not in my radar at all.
[0:35:40 – 0:35:42] Adam: You don’t know about Eco Challenge?
[0:35:42 – 0:35:42] Adam: No.
[0:35:43 – 0:35:43] Adam: Oh, wow.
[0:35:44 – 0:35:50] Adam: All right, well, we might have to eventually include this in a future Tumblr Cinema Classic, so I don’t want to say too much.
[0:35:50 – 0:35:58] Adam: But it’s like an adventure race in which they have like teams from all over the world, like completing like a course across a landscape.
[0:35:58 – 0:36:00] Adam: And then so I pulled an old one up on.
[0:36:00 – 0:36:06] Adam: I remember seeing this on like a Saturday afternoon on TV when I was a kid.
[0:36:06 – 0:36:08] Erik: I always thought that was called The Amazing Race.
[0:36:09 – 0:36:10] Adam: Yeah, well, that’s the new version of it.
[0:36:11 – 0:36:12] Adam: It’s completely ruined it.
[0:36:13 – 0:36:13] Adam: Oh, sure.
[0:36:13 – 0:36:14] Adam: Too gimmicky.
[0:36:14 – 0:36:15] Erik: Too gimmicky?
[0:36:15 – 0:36:17] Adam: Yeah, The Amazing Race is a bunch of gimmicks.
[0:36:17 – 0:36:20] Adam: It’s like Fear Factor with a light jog in between.
[0:36:20 – 0:36:21] Adam: Come on.
[0:36:22 – 0:36:24] Adam: Eco Challenge was serious.
[0:36:24 – 0:36:32] Adam: You’re riding a camel, you’re whitewater rafting, you’re summoning a mountain, and then you’re mountain biking 500 miles in the dark through a desert.
[0:36:32 – 0:36:58] Adam: to the finish line and there’s a bike checkpoints it’s kind of like a mix of all those things with the iditarod and humans instead of dogs sure very poor vo2 max um and then they televise it and then they they show the story and that’s how we’ve always done it okay so i remember seeing this as a kid and i was like oh yeah eco challenge like wow you do not i thought eric you would have heard about this it was on you’re 10 years older than i am
[0:36:59 – 0:37:01] Adam: Yeah, but it was on from 1995 until 2002.
[0:37:01 – 0:37:04] Adam: You watched television in that time frame, I assume?
[0:37:04 – 0:37:05] Adam: It was on Discovery Channel.
[0:37:05 – 0:37:06] Erik: Oh, yeah.
[0:37:06 – 0:37:08] Adam: You didn’t have the Discovery Channel?
[0:37:08 – 0:37:08] Erik: I didn’t really…
[0:37:08 – 0:37:13] Adam: It was literally on every basic cable package and satellite package.
[0:37:13 – 0:37:17] Erik: Yeah, I was going to say, I don’t think that I was really privy to…
[0:37:20 – 0:37:30] Adam: much in the way of satellite and or cable until i was pretty much i swear i saw like i’m just like we didn’t have cable when i was a kid and i swear it was like on abc or something
[0:37:31 – 0:37:31] Adam: Back in the day.
[0:37:31 – 0:37:32] Erik: It sounds like what it should have been on.
[0:37:32 – 0:37:33] Erik: Yeah, I don’t know.
[0:37:33 – 0:37:34] Adam: It was awesome.
[0:37:34 – 0:37:37] Adam: I remember seeing it and just being captivated by it as a child.
[0:37:37 – 0:37:40] Adam: I had no idea Mark Burnett was in the mix on this thing.
[0:37:41 – 0:37:52] Adam: The guy who did Survivor, he started out on Eco Challenge first, and I guess he was a guy that was interested in racing like that, and possibly he was on a Navy SEAL training program at some point.
[0:37:53 – 0:37:59] Adam: I guess he’s certified hang glider, certified jump master, all this adventure stuff.
[0:37:59 – 0:38:00] Adam: He’s like the original…
[0:38:02 – 0:38:03] Adam: I won’t say that.
[0:38:03 – 0:38:04] Adam: He’s not the original Bear Grylls.
[0:38:05 – 0:38:06] Adam: There’s only one Bear Grylls.
[0:38:06 – 0:38:09] Adam: But, you know, he’s kind of in that same realm, I guess.
[0:38:09 – 0:38:10] Adam: You know, adventure TV.
[0:38:11 – 0:38:13] Erik: Do you need to get certified in hang gliding?
[0:38:13 – 0:38:14] Erik: Hang glidemanship?
[0:38:14 – 0:38:15] Adam: Well, you did.
[0:38:15 – 0:38:16] Adam: You could.
[0:38:17 – 0:38:17] Adam: Don’t need to.
[0:38:17 – 0:38:20] Adam: I’m pretty sure that’s the wild west of flight.
[0:38:21 – 0:38:21] Adam: Sure.
[0:38:21 – 0:38:23] Adam: You can do whatever you want up there if you’re gliding.
[0:38:24 – 0:38:24] Adam: No motors?
[0:38:24 – 0:38:26] Adam: You can do whatever you want in the air.
[0:38:26 – 0:38:27] Erik: If you’re gliding.
[0:38:27 – 0:38:31] Adam: You’re not going to license the birds, are we, Eric?
[0:38:31 – 0:38:31] Adam: No.
[0:38:31 – 0:38:33] Erik: Just don’t glide over a wilderness.
[0:38:33 – 0:38:34] Adam: Fly away home.
[0:38:34 – 0:38:35] Adam: Anna Paquin.
[0:38:36 – 0:38:36] Erik: Ellen Page.
[0:38:40 – 0:38:45] Adam: Anyways, I pulled up an old one, like the Morocco one from 98 on YouTube.
[0:38:46 – 0:38:46] Adam: It’s just free on YouTube.
[0:38:47 – 0:38:48] Erik: Just takes place in Morocco?
[0:38:48 – 0:38:49] Erik: Morocco, yeah.
[0:38:50 – 0:38:51] Adam: It was awesome.
[0:38:51 – 0:38:55] Adam: I just watched that one night instead of watching Last of the Mohicans.
[0:38:55 – 0:38:59] Adam: Because I couldn’t find it because they didn’t have the new one on Amazon.
[0:39:00 – 0:39:01] Erik: I’m sure it’s on YouTube for $4.
[0:39:02 – 0:39:07] Adam: Yeah, I’ll probably have to either pirate it or pay for it because it’s not on any of the streaming services I have.
[0:39:08 – 0:39:09] Adam: Oh, well, I don’t know.
[0:39:09 – 0:39:12] Adam: I thought for sure you would have heard of it, but anyways.
[0:39:12 – 0:39:15] Erik: Glad we’re having conversations about the TV shows you’ve been watching.
[0:39:18 – 0:39:19] Erik: What are we doing here?
[0:39:20 – 0:39:22] Adam: We’re talking about life-changing experiences, Eric.
[0:39:23 – 0:39:24] Erik: What was life-changing about?
[0:39:25 – 0:39:26] Erik: I don’t even remember the name of it.
[0:39:26 – 0:39:27] Adam: Eco Challenge.
[0:39:27 – 0:39:28] Erik: Eco Challenge.
[0:39:28 – 0:39:29] Erik: What was eco about it?
[0:39:30 – 0:39:32] Adam: It’s in the ecology of the world.
[0:39:32 – 0:39:39] Adam: They didn’t like… Eco is a trendy way to just say, you know, adventure race in the jungle.
[0:39:39 – 0:39:41] Erik: There wasn’t anything particularly green about it.
[0:39:41 – 0:39:44] Erik: They weren’t going to like pick up trash half the time.
[0:39:44 – 0:39:46] Adam: Yeah, they should have been picking up trash along the way.
[0:39:46 – 0:39:53] Adam: Yeah, we’re running all the lights and cameras on solar power, which is brand new.
[0:39:53 – 0:39:55] Erik: Yeah, solar power that is being generated by the competitors.
[0:39:55 – 0:40:00] Adam: They were just talking about the show, and I was like, damn, I can’t believe that’s the guy who did Eco Challenge, too.
[0:40:00 – 0:40:02] Adam: I thought for sure you would have heard of it.
[0:40:02 – 0:40:07] Erik: No, I’m sure I would be a lot more excited about it if I had ever heard of it.
[0:40:07 – 0:40:07] Adam: Anyways, it’s a cool show.
[0:40:08 – 0:40:15] Adam: Anybody that’s listening to Tumble Home, I’m sure would enjoy Eco Challenge, and I guess I’m giving a soft endorsement to Eco Challenge.
[0:40:15 – 0:40:16] Adam: That’s the point.
[0:40:16 – 0:40:17] Adam: And…
[0:40:18 – 0:40:21] Adam: Art Bell is interviewing Mark Burnett back in the day.
[0:40:22 – 0:40:24] Erik: Seems like an odd interview for that show.
[0:40:24 – 0:40:26] Adam: I thought he was done in 2000.
[0:40:26 – 0:40:28] Adam: Why was he interviewing him?
[0:40:28 – 0:40:29] Adam: Maybe it was Nori.
[0:40:30 – 0:40:33] Adam: It doesn’t make any sense now that I’m thinking back on the timeline here.
[0:40:34 – 0:40:59] Adam: but uh yeah he was interviewing him it’s just like it’s just really funny to like this guy’s normally talking about like area 51 yeah he’s just talking to a tv producer electronic voice phenomenon the havana syndrome and then he’s like i’m gonna talk to mark burnett i love it and he’s just like he’s clearly a big fan of eco challenge he doesn’t really talk about uh anyways you know it was just a fun conversation and then
[0:41:00 – 0:41:02] Adam: The crux of it, though, is what do these people get out of it?
[0:41:02 – 0:41:04] Adam: Because they just get beat to death.
[0:41:04 – 0:41:08] Adam: Only the top two teams make any money out of it.
[0:41:08 – 0:41:10] Adam: And the same teams keep signing up year after year.
[0:41:10 – 0:41:13] Adam: It just reminded me a lot of dog sled racing.
[0:41:13 – 0:41:14] Erik: More than once?
[0:41:14 – 0:41:22] Adam: Yeah, a lot of teams try and come back, and they had a screening process where they have room for 100 teams and 10,000 teams try and sign up.
[0:41:22 – 0:41:26] Adam: And it ends up being a thing where they’re trying to pick the best teams for it.
[0:41:26 – 0:41:28] Adam: It’s like, why do people want to do this?
[0:41:28 – 0:41:36] Adam: Half of them end up almost dying and cut up and getting thrown into the desert by an angry camel.
[0:41:36 – 0:41:37] Adam: Why would you sign up for this?
[0:41:38 – 0:41:42] Adam: And Mark Burnett just goes, well, you know, it’s a life-changing experience.
[0:41:42 – 0:41:43] Adam: There’s only so many of those out there.
[0:41:44 – 0:41:52] Adam: And it’s just like I was talking to you about this on our ski, about life-changing experiences, and this is where it all came from.
[0:41:52 – 0:41:56] Adam: I was listening to this old Coast to Coast AM show,
[0:41:57 – 0:42:12] Adam: interviewing Mark Burnett of all people and it’s like yeah there is just something about these adventures and I guess this is why I put it in the notes and wanted to bring it up that like these big adventures you go on whether it’s a eco challenge or going on Survivor
[0:42:13 – 0:42:21] Adam: or doing a five-day trip in the Boundary Waters, or going on just a nice ski, that it’s those memories that you make on these things.
[0:42:21 – 0:42:23] Adam: It’s not so much about winning.
[0:42:23 – 0:42:26] Adam: I like a competition where it doesn’t matter if you win, it’s just about trying to finish it.
[0:42:27 – 0:42:31] Adam: And then I was just kind of thinking ahead, too, of trying to do the Bandit Ad later in the winter.
[0:42:31 – 0:42:37] Adam: And it’s like, these aren’t things that you’re trying to go out there and you’re competing, but against yourself.
[0:42:37 – 0:42:39] Adam: And that’s the real life-changing adventure.
[0:42:39 – 0:42:42] Adam: And you and I have shared that together.
[0:42:43 – 0:42:45] Adam: And that’s why I’m bringing it up.
[0:42:45 – 0:42:45] Adam: I don’t know.
[0:42:45 – 0:42:46] Adam: I just enjoyed it.
[0:42:46 – 0:42:47] Erik: Yeah, no, I get it.
[0:42:47 – 0:42:57] Erik: I mean, I find myself rethinking about specifically Quetico trips more than anything else this time of year.
[0:42:59 – 0:43:02] Erik: And just any trip in general, honestly.
[0:43:02 – 0:43:13] Erik: I can just go back and the amount of time that I can just sit and actually go through almost every day.
[0:43:14 – 0:43:16] Erik: Still kind of boggles my mind.
[0:43:18 – 0:43:30] Erik: Although you just mentioning the name Mark Burnett after having never thought of that name, having not thought of that name in probably 15 years that I was able to just pull up, I could like see the font.
[0:43:31 – 0:43:58] Erik: yeah the survivor font i was like well why am i hanging out about other tribes too why am i hanging on to like stuff like that yeah but i can’t but i can still go through and almost go through every day of every trip i’ve ever taken and specifically quetico trips where i can just like think about and if i ever get lost i just have to think about like well what was where was the what did the camp look like
[0:43:59 – 0:44:02] Erik: Camp always jogs the memory.
[0:44:02 – 0:44:05] Erik: I can just draw a line on a map.
[0:44:05 – 0:44:06] Erik: Still, I could do it.
[0:44:06 – 0:44:09] Erik: If you give me a blank map, I could go through and do every…
[0:44:09 – 0:44:13] Adam: It’s burned into your mind like the embers into Richard’s naked face.
[0:44:14 – 0:44:15] Adam: I think it’s Richard.
[0:44:15 – 0:44:16] Adam: It is Richard, for sure.
[0:44:16 – 0:44:24] Erik: I thought you were going to say it’s burned in like the… Wasn’t the Survivor font kind of pressed on like a brand?
[0:44:24 – 0:44:26] Adam: I think they all got branded to go on the show.
[0:44:26 – 0:44:26] Adam: Ssssss.
[0:44:27 – 0:44:31] Adam: Yeah, take a psychological evaluation and also submit to a branding.
[0:44:31 – 0:44:35] Adam: And in a geotrack, you don’t want to let them escape the island.
[0:44:36 – 0:44:43] Erik: Well, I do appreciate the conversation because now it does make for a very, very easy outro song.
[0:44:43 – 0:44:44] Adam: Oh, good.
[0:44:44 – 0:44:44] Erik: Yeah.
[0:44:44 – 0:44:46] Erik: Because I haven’t actually heard the Survivor theme.
[0:44:46 – 0:44:48] Adam: I don’t think I could sing it or anything, but that’s what it’s going to be.
[0:44:48 – 0:44:50] Adam: Oh, I thought you were going to pick the eco trick.
[0:44:50 – 0:44:52] Adam: The eco challenge theme.
[0:44:52 – 0:44:52] Adam: Oh, maybe.
[0:44:52 – 0:44:53] Adam: Very famous.
[0:44:53 – 0:44:55] Adam: I should just look up some eco.
[0:44:55 – 0:44:57] Adam: No, the Survivor theme song is definitely that one.
[0:44:58 – 0:44:59] Erik: There’s some pan flute in it, I’m sure.
[0:44:59 – 0:45:00] Adam: Oh, yeah.
[0:45:00 – 0:45:02] Adam: There’s pan flute.
[0:45:03 – 0:45:04] Adam: For sure.
[0:45:05 – 0:45:05] Adam: Yes.
[0:45:06 – 0:45:11] Adam: So anyways, we’re out on a life-changing experience on the pincushion loop.
[0:45:12 – 0:45:13] Adam: And we’re going to get to the meat.
[0:45:14 – 0:45:15] Adam: Pincushion loop.
[0:45:15 – 0:45:19] Adam: We’re going for a ski trail review episode.
[0:45:19 – 0:45:21] Adam: First of its kind here on Tumble Home.
[0:45:22 – 0:45:23] Adam: 181 episodes in.
[0:45:23 – 0:45:24] Adam: Thank you for being here.
[0:45:25 – 0:45:25] Erik: We’re having a good time.
[0:45:25 – 0:45:26] Erik: We’re having a good time.
[0:45:27 – 0:45:29] Adam: Yeah, nine inches of fresh powder on the ground.
[0:45:30 – 0:45:35] Adam: I have over 90 inches on the snow log at home, which is above average at this point.
[0:45:35 – 0:45:47] Adam: I did look it up for North Shore and inland from here, most of the Gunflint Trail, and I’m going to say Ely’s probably on the fringe of this, but 80 inches is the average average.
[0:45:48 – 0:46:09] Erik: finland for all for whatever reason like they’re like 90 inches they have a little bit more of a bullseye on the snow groove right but it also seems like this is the the heaviest leaning towards the big lake winter for snowfall amounts yeah the the you’re right the hill is getting wallop
[0:46:09 – 0:46:21] Erik: Yeah, and you can see on even just like your basic like snow depth map, it’s just this thick band of deep purple right above the lake.
[0:46:21 – 0:46:25] Erik: And then anything farther in from there, it just kind of diminishes.
[0:46:26 – 0:46:37] Erik: Not that there’s not snow, but usually it’s not quite as, I mean, more often than not, I would come down from the trail and get into Grand Marais or anything along the shore and it would be like bare ground.
[0:46:37 – 0:46:37] Erik: Yeah.
[0:46:38 – 0:47:00] Erik: yeah i don’t know what you know why that may seems like it might be relatively random but i i do get the sense that anything like right on the lake is just doesn’t quite get as much snow yeah but like usually this year like you can like snowmobile through grand marais if you want yeah it’s just uh it’s piled up
[0:47:01 – 0:47:04] Adam: Yeah, you know, in a couple weeks from now, it’ll all start to, like, melt off.
[0:47:04 – 0:47:06] Adam: But in town, at least, it will.
[0:47:06 – 0:47:07] Erik: Yeah.
[0:47:07 – 0:47:09] Adam: But, yeah, I mean, we’re socked in up the hill.
[0:47:10 – 0:47:13] Adam: We’re running out of spots to throw the snow at this point.
[0:47:13 – 0:47:14] Erik: Three to five on Saturday.
[0:47:15 – 0:47:15] Erik: Or Thursday?
[0:47:15 – 0:47:17] Adam: Thursday night, yeah.
[0:47:17 – 0:47:21] Adam: I got to go to Duluth on Thursday, so I’m really hoping it holds off until we get back.
[0:47:21 – 0:47:25] Adam: And I’m probably going to be driving at it on Thursday night.
[0:47:25 – 0:47:26] Erik: Old white knuckler.
[0:47:27 – 0:47:30] Adam: I’m going to have to get a couple extra sushi rolls for the road on that one.
[0:47:30 – 0:47:31] UNKNOWN: Yikes.
[0:47:32 – 0:47:36] Adam: Yeah, so we got a really nice base on all the home trails.
[0:47:37 – 0:47:43] Adam: And, yeah, Eric and I kind of planned on we’re going to go hit up the pincushion loop on Sunday.
[0:47:43 – 0:47:50] Adam: So, like, right after, basically 24 hours after the big snow we got last week, met up there noonish.
[0:47:51 – 0:47:51] Erik: Yeah.
[0:47:51 – 0:47:51] Erik: Yeah.
[0:47:52 – 0:48:15] Adam: on a sunday you know and you’re like well it’s probably gonna be a lot of people up here wasn’t too bad it wasn’t too bad yeah there’s quite a few cars but most of that lot was open and we did embark and it was like well i don’t know i mean is there even gonna is it gonna have will the groomer have made it out i don’t know there’s a lot of trails out there at pincushion anybody listening who’s been to the pincushion trail system uh
[0:48:16 – 0:48:18] Adam: Kilometers and kilometers and kilometers.
[0:48:18 – 0:48:19] Adam: Loops on loops.
[0:48:19 – 0:48:24] Adam: Loops on loops and hills doubling back and forth.
[0:48:24 – 0:48:25] Adam: A lot of places to go.
[0:48:25 – 0:48:27] Adam: It’s a lot of grooming work.
[0:48:27 – 0:48:28] Adam: I don’t know how many groomers they got out there.
[0:48:28 – 0:48:30] Adam: Anybody have any groomer information?
[0:48:30 – 0:48:31] Adam: I’m all ears.
[0:48:31 – 0:48:33] Erik: I’ve never seen a piston bully out there, though.
[0:48:33 – 0:48:34] Erik: Oh, boy.
[0:48:34 – 0:48:37] Erik: Are they just doing it with the tract, like side by side?
[0:48:37 – 0:48:38] Erik: Basically.
[0:48:38 – 0:48:38] Erik: That’s what it looked like.
[0:48:39 – 0:48:45] Adam: Yeah, we did run into one of them out there just rolling out there, kind of scooping and rolling.
[0:48:46 – 0:48:49] Adam: And, yeah, we get to the turn for the pincushion loop.
[0:48:49 – 0:48:57] Adam: So it’s kind of you go up to the north, and then you want to run this thing like clockwise and get up there, and it’s rolled.
[0:48:57 – 0:49:19] Adam: oh yeah it’s rolled but but not tracked it’s like first we got there it’s like it looked like kind of there’s like a set of tracks that kind of went off into the deep stuff right away which i think were from like the night before or something so then it was rolled yeah so but it was kind of soft it was reasonably warm temperatures
[0:49:22 – 0:49:27] Adam: And, yeah, oh, it’s time for another Linen Kugel’s Lemon Haze IPA.
[0:49:28 – 0:49:29] Adam: Lemony hazy.
[0:49:29 – 0:49:31] Adam: This is Tumble Home Afterlight.
[0:49:32 – 0:49:33] Adam: Ooh-wee.
[0:49:33 – 0:49:34] Erik: Thanks, Jacob.
[0:49:36 – 0:49:37] Erik: Linen Kugel, that is.
[0:49:37 – 0:49:38] Erik: And Keith.
[0:49:38 – 0:49:38] Adam: And Linen Kugel.
[0:49:40 – 0:49:41] Erik: He’s a dirt track racer.
[0:49:41 – 0:49:45] Adam: He’s probably got a 420 Sprint.
[0:49:47 – 0:49:49] Erik: Do a book report on Jacob Leinenkugel.
[0:49:50 – 0:49:50] Erik: Yeah.
[0:49:51 – 0:49:52] Erik: Any biographies out there on him?
[0:49:53 – 0:49:54] Adam: Oh, probably.
[0:49:55 – 0:50:01] Erik: When did he decide to introduce high fructose corn syrup to create Berry Vice?
[0:50:01 – 0:50:05] Adam: Is that how they do it?
[0:50:05 – 0:50:06] Adam: Is that the secret?
[0:50:06 – 0:50:09] Adam: You’re giving away all the recipes tonight on Tumble Home.
[0:50:10 – 0:50:11] Adam: And, uh…
[0:50:12 – 0:50:14] Adam: Anyhow, we got it moving on the loop.
[0:50:14 – 0:50:19] Adam: Eric, what are you doing?
[0:50:19 – 0:50:20] Adam: I’m looking at this can artwork.
[0:50:20 – 0:50:21] Adam: What is he doing?
[0:50:23 – 0:50:27] Adam: He’s examining the kayaks on the can artwork now.
[0:50:28 – 0:50:29] Adam: Oh, it’s like a can.
[0:50:29 – 0:50:30] Adam: All right, let’s see what he’s doing.
[0:50:32 – 0:50:35] Adam: Anyhow, Eric, you’ve never been out there.
[0:50:35 – 0:50:37] Adam: He had to buy his Minnesota State ski pass.
[0:50:38 – 0:50:41] Adam: This guy’s a backcountry skier, you know, through and through.
[0:50:41 – 0:50:46] Adam: And I’ve been kind of migrating into the groomed trails more and more for whatever reason.
[0:50:47 – 0:50:49] Adam: And anyways, it was fun to meet out there, though.
[0:50:49 – 0:50:56] Adam: We made it out onto the loop and got up to the O point, which is the high point, I believe, on that loop.
[0:50:57 – 0:51:01] Adam: And then from there, you kind of follow the Devil’s Track River.
[0:51:03 – 0:51:28] Adam: down back towards the lake and eventually you like cross over the superior hiking trail and then there’s some like fat tire biking trails in there oh yeah it was wonderful i don’t know how many people do you think were ahead of us on that trail for sure like at least a couple but yeah then we got up to where the overlook like spur comes off of it there’s three like startled skiers kind of assembled there by the sign
[0:51:29 – 0:51:30] Erik: Yeah, not your typical crew.
[0:51:30 – 0:51:32] Erik: They look like a little bit more like local.
[0:51:33 – 0:51:34] SPEAKER_00: They look sketchy as hell.
[0:51:34 – 0:51:35] Erik: Not really skiing in like your typical.
[0:51:36 – 0:51:37] Adam: It looked like they were up to something.
[0:51:37 – 0:51:39] Erik: One guy was in jeans.
[0:51:39 – 0:51:42] Adam: Yeah, they did look like they were up to no good.
[0:51:42 – 0:51:46] Adam: But then as soon as they saw us coming, they all like scampered off.
[0:51:46 – 0:51:48] Erik: Yeah, well, I kind of skied directly towards them.
[0:51:48 – 0:51:49] Adam: Hard, yeah.
[0:51:49 – 0:51:52] Adam: You were wheezing, too.
[0:51:52 – 0:51:55] Erik: I wasn’t going to go by because they were right at the turning point to go up to the overlook.
[0:51:55 – 0:51:57] Erik: You were going to the overlook.
[0:51:57 – 0:52:00] Erik: I knew I had to take my skis off because you can’t ski up to the overlook.
[0:52:00 – 0:52:01] Erik: That’s like a death wish.
[0:52:01 – 0:52:03] Adam: That’s crazy.
[0:52:03 – 0:52:04] Adam: Or skiing down, that would be insane.
[0:52:04 – 0:52:06] Adam: I could barely get down just in boots.
[0:52:06 – 0:52:07] Adam: Yeah.
[0:52:07 – 0:52:09] Adam: So, yeah, there’s the big overlook.
[0:52:09 – 0:52:12] Adam: Anybody out there, you can hike this in the summer.
[0:52:14 – 0:52:15] Adam: I’ve only been out there in the winter.
[0:52:15 – 0:52:16] Adam: I’ve never gone out there in the summer.
[0:52:18 – 0:52:19] Erik: Yeah, that’s kind of crazy.
[0:52:19 – 0:52:20] Erik: I’d never been out there in the winter.
[0:52:20 – 0:52:21] Erik: I’ve only been out there in the summer.
[0:52:22 – 0:52:23] Erik: Walked it a ton of times.
[0:52:24 – 0:52:25] Adam: Yeah, there’s this big knob.
[0:52:25 – 0:52:33] Adam: You can see it from 61 from a number of different directions and pretty obvious when you’re down on the shore, you can see it there.
[0:52:33 – 0:52:38] Adam: And I drive the shore daily, you know, and I see the big knob over there, big old rocky top.
[0:52:39 – 0:52:42] Adam: That’s where they get their corn in a can.
[0:52:44 – 0:52:51] Adam: Took me a while to figure out that the line in Rocky Top about corn in a jar meant like moonshine, not just actual corn.
[0:52:52 – 0:52:53] Adam: I’m a…
[0:52:53 – 0:52:57] Survivor: I’m a bit of a slow learner when it comes to lyricism.
[0:52:58 – 0:53:06] Adam: Yeah, so I’m used to seeing Five Mile Rock and Artist Point down from sea level, like a smooth stone.
[0:53:07 – 0:53:16] Adam: And you get up there, and it’s just a really cool overlook, being able to see the familiar sights of my home shore from above.
[0:53:16 – 0:53:18] Adam: It’s one of the better overlooks out there.
[0:53:18 – 0:53:20] Adam: I don’t think that made it into our vistas.
[0:53:20 – 0:53:21] Erik: No, I don’t think it ever did.
[0:53:21 – 0:53:27] Adam: Maybe got an honorable mention at best, but I doubt I had even been up there when we did our vista episode.
[0:53:28 – 0:53:56] Erik: rock vistas yeah rock vistas in this one not liquid oh liquid vistas so yeah we got up there but it was like literally what 40 mile an hour sustained wind yeah we were in them from inland we were in the parking lot and it was just like it’s so hot the sun’s out i got the black wool on like but then yeah when we got up to the top of that knob it like it felt like we were on top of everest
[0:53:56 – 0:53:57] Adam: It did, yeah.
[0:53:57 – 0:54:02] Adam: I had to get out the oxygen canister and the belay rope.
[0:54:03 – 0:54:06] Erik: We were hiding down in the woods.
[0:54:06 – 0:54:08] Erik: We had a Vista hiding in the woods.
[0:54:08 – 0:54:09] Adam: Got to see the Vista real quick.
[0:54:10 – 0:54:11] Adam: Had ourselves a beer.
[0:54:11 – 0:54:12] Adam: Didn’t do any audio.
[0:54:14 – 0:54:14] Adam: Would have done no good.
[0:54:14 – 0:54:23] Adam: And then we retreated quickly back towards where the skis had been parked and the weird little skiers had scampered off to.
[0:54:24 – 0:54:25] Erik: Protection of the woods.
[0:54:25 – 0:54:26] Adam: Yeah, got back down there.
[0:54:26 – 0:54:32] Adam: And then from there, you’re about two-thirds of the way through the loop and continued on.
[0:54:32 – 0:54:34] Adam: And from there, you get a little bit more downhill.
[0:54:34 – 0:54:37] Adam: And then the rest of the way home is all uphill.
[0:54:38 – 0:54:42] Erik: Gradual and right at the end, actually kind of steep.
[0:54:42 – 0:54:43] Adam: Yeah, it was pretty steep.
[0:54:43 – 0:54:47] Adam: I was like definitely like wheezing a bit by the end.
[0:54:48 – 0:54:50] Adam: And yeah, we were both classic skiing.
[0:54:51 – 0:54:54] Adam: I wouldn’t have tried to skate ski that on the conditions.
[0:54:54 – 0:54:58] Erik: There was no it was as wide as it was like four feet wide.
[0:54:59 – 0:55:04] Adam: Yeah, the little parts where you did have to kind of like herringbone up the hills, like even then you’re getting…
[0:55:04 – 0:55:05] Erik: Toes are getting in the powder.
[0:55:05 – 0:55:06] Erik: I hate that.
[0:55:06 – 0:55:07] Adam: Tips in the deeps, as they say.
[0:55:07 – 0:55:08] Erik: Yeah, that’s the worst.
[0:55:08 – 0:55:09] Erik: That’s what they call it.
[0:55:09 – 0:55:11] Adam: You got to fight the tips through it, Eric.
[0:55:11 – 0:55:12] Erik: Tips in the deeps.
[0:55:12 – 0:55:20] Erik: That’s the one part about the backcountry skiing that I hate because like anytime you have to go uphill, your skis just get like caught in deep snow and weeds and…
[0:55:21 – 0:55:37] Erik: old grasses and branches and stuff so yeah to not have to deal with that on the groomer trails is always nice but had a little bit of it from here and there i imagine they go around again to make it wider yeah i’m sure they go around it again and then they lay down a track in there
[0:55:37 – 0:55:42] Erik: Yeah, which I did miss out on because, like I said, I’m mostly just going backcountry.
[0:55:42 – 0:55:51] Erik: So the only time I ever get tracks is like my own, which it’s not hard packed like the ones that you find where you just like you’re locked in.
[0:55:51 – 0:55:51] Erik: Right.
[0:55:52 – 0:55:53] Erik: Like those are pretty sweet when you get in them.
[0:55:54 – 0:55:54] Erik: Yeah.
[0:55:54 – 0:55:55] Erik: But it also…
[0:55:56 – 0:56:06] Adam: Yeah, I had done with Adrian a couple weeks ago the deer yard loop, which is like a 12K, and it was on really good track like that.
[0:56:06 – 0:56:06] Adam: Nice.
[0:56:06 – 0:56:11] Adam: There was some soft stuff on the side, so the downhills were nice and manageable and controlled.
[0:56:11 – 0:56:13] Erik: You could step out if you needed to.
[0:56:13 – 0:56:16] Adam: Yeah, but then when you were cruising, you were just in this nice track.
[0:56:17 – 0:56:18] Adam: Just straight pulling sometimes?
[0:56:18 – 0:56:18] Adam: Right.
[0:56:18 – 0:56:19] Adam: That’s always nice.
[0:56:19 – 0:56:21] Adam: Yeah, like, oh, yeah, just pushing it.
[0:56:21 – 0:56:24] Adam: And, yeah, this one, it’s seven.
[0:56:24 – 0:56:33] Adam: Even with the overlook on there on the track I had my GPS on, it was 7.25K with the overlook on there.
[0:56:33 – 0:56:35] Adam: So a seven ski, basically.
[0:56:35 – 0:56:41] Adam: So way less, but, like, it was no good track, and it was just kind of, like, slippery and wiggling around a bunch.
[0:56:41 – 0:56:43] Erik: Kind of angling off to the sides.
[0:56:43 – 0:56:44] Erik: Yeah, it definitely felt.
[0:56:44 – 0:56:45] Adam: It was a little more free-form.
[0:56:45 – 0:56:45] Adam: Yeah.
[0:56:45 – 0:56:46] Erik: Yeah, you felt it for sure.
[0:56:46 – 0:56:48] Erik: It was never just cruising.
[0:56:48 – 0:56:50] Adam: I was way more sore after that ski.
[0:56:50 – 0:56:55] Erik: Yeah, I could feel it the next morning in like the front top thigh, like above the hamstring.
[0:56:56 – 0:56:56] Adam: Yeah.
[0:56:57 – 0:57:08] Adam: So, yeah, I mean, I was definitely all this is kind of in anticipation of eventually by the end of March, hopefully going out and doing the full banded ad, which is like a crazy amount of distance.
[0:57:08 – 0:57:12] Adam: And I think the real thing is going to matter is like, what is the trail?
[0:57:12 – 0:57:16] Adam: We got to hit it on a night or a day where the trail is going to be solid.
[0:57:17 – 0:57:17] Adam: Good chance.
[0:57:17 – 0:57:18] Adam: Because they do groom that.
[0:57:19 – 0:57:22] Adam: But yeah, if we hit it when it’s like what the pin cushion loop was.
[0:57:22 – 0:57:23] Erik: No, that would not be.
[0:57:23 – 0:57:24] Adam: It’s going to be very, very tough.
[0:57:25 – 0:57:25] Adam: I mean, we’ll finish it.
[0:57:25 – 0:57:26] Adam: It wouldn’t be possible.
[0:57:26 – 0:57:29] Adam: We’ll finish it, but we’re going to be a wreck by the end.
[0:57:29 – 0:57:35] Erik: We’re going to have hamburger crotch if we try to do it in the conditions that pincushion was in the other day.
[0:57:35 – 0:57:37] Adam: Spaghetti knees.
[0:57:37 – 0:57:40] Erik: And, yeah, you’re going to have hamburger crotch and spaghetti knees.
[0:57:40 – 0:57:40] Adam: Yeah.
[0:57:40 – 0:57:42] Erik: Just kind of shuffling along.
[0:57:42 – 0:57:45] Adam: Your feet are going to be made out of syrup.
[0:57:45 – 0:57:46] Erik: All is going on right now.
[0:57:46 – 0:57:50] Erik: From the waist down, we’re just going to be made out of different kinds of food.
[0:57:50 – 0:57:54] Adam: If you get a good track, though, it’s a long ways, but…
[0:57:55 – 0:57:59] Adam: If we hit it on a day where it’s been freshly tracked, I think we’ll be just fine.
[0:58:00 – 0:58:02] Adam: Just can’t go too fast.
[0:58:02 – 0:58:05] Adam: I think it’s one of those things where you’ve got to hold your own brake down.
[0:58:05 – 0:58:09] Adam: We criticized Ryan Reddington for not having a brake on his sled.
[0:58:10 – 0:58:13] Adam: We also criticized Wade Mars also for not stopping for a beer.
[0:58:14 – 0:58:15] Adam: Somehow his brake was broke.
[0:58:16 – 0:58:18] Adam: And we need to have our own brakes broke.
[0:58:19 – 0:58:22] Adam: Make sure we keep it nice and medium.
[0:58:22 – 0:58:23] Adam: Our own mental brakes.
[0:58:23 – 0:58:28] Adam: You’ve got to have a mental speed brake on when you’re trying to do a long-distance ski like that.
[0:58:29 – 0:58:32] Adam: 7Ks, 12Ks, it’s kind of just like, give it.
[0:58:33 – 0:58:36] Adam: Go ahead and go, which is fun.
[0:58:36 – 0:58:38] Adam: What’s the banded add?
[0:58:38 – 0:58:38] Adam: 30K?
[0:58:39 – 0:58:40] Erik: What’s the banded add?
[0:58:40 – 0:58:41] Adam: 27, I think.
[0:58:42 – 0:58:43] Erik: I had it.
[0:58:43 – 0:58:44] Erik: Close to 30K.
[0:58:48 – 0:58:49] Adam: Yeah, it’s like…
[0:58:51 – 0:58:52] SPEAKER_00: Hold on.
[0:58:52 – 0:58:53] SPEAKER_00: I have it here.
[0:58:54 – 0:58:55] Adam: What?
[0:58:55 – 0:58:58] Adam: It’s 29K, 17.4 miles.
[0:58:58 – 0:58:59] Adam: What was the logo?
[0:58:59 – 0:59:00] Erik: 29K.
[0:59:00 – 0:59:01] Erik: What was the logo that was just up there?
[0:59:02 – 0:59:04] Adam: It was a Dharma Initiative taco.
[0:59:05 – 0:59:07] Erik: Is that a Dharma Initiative logo?
[0:59:07 – 0:59:08] Adam: Yeah, I’m working on a new meal kit.
[0:59:08 – 0:59:10] Adam: It’s Dharma Initiative.
[0:59:11 – 0:59:12] Adam: It’s just to be called Taco Dinner.
[0:59:12 – 0:59:13] Adam: Oh, nice.
[0:59:13 – 0:59:17] Adam: I was going to use the old Dharma Initiative logo, but put a taco in the middle.
[0:59:17 – 0:59:19] Adam: Yeah, I’m working on some other side stuff on there.
[0:59:21 – 0:59:22] Adam: Yeah, so that’s a lot.
[0:59:22 – 0:59:23] Adam: 29K?
[0:59:24 – 0:59:29] Adam: So that’s the deer yard loop plus the pincushion loop.
[0:59:29 – 0:59:30] Adam: That gets you to 19.
[0:59:30 – 0:59:32] Adam: You still have 10 more to go after that.
[0:59:32 – 0:59:34] Adam: A whole other 10K after that.
[0:59:34 – 0:59:41] Adam: But, I mean, we should be able to do it in like five to six hours if the conditions are nice and we’re not trying to push it too hard.
[0:59:41 – 0:59:42] Erik: Sure, yeah.
[0:59:42 – 0:59:43] Adam: A lot of breaks.
[0:59:44 – 0:59:46] Erik: Could also be the last episode of the podcast.
[0:59:47 – 0:59:47] SPEAKER_00: Perish.
[0:59:48 – 0:59:48] SPEAKER_00: They died.
[0:59:48 – 0:59:48] SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
[0:59:50 – 0:59:54] Adam: And they found this tape on their corpses, and this is the end.
[0:59:54 – 0:59:56] Erik: That would be a hell of a way to go out.
[0:59:56 – 0:59:56] Erik: Yeah.
[0:59:57 – 0:59:59] Erik: We could just pretend to do that.
[0:59:59 – 1:00:02] Adam: Are you foreshadowing that we’re going to fake our own deaths?
[1:00:02 – 1:00:05] Erik: And then just sink back into regular, normal life?
[1:00:06 – 1:00:08] Erik: I’m just a normal person now again.
[1:00:09 – 1:00:11] Erik: My name is Miguel Sanchez.
[1:00:14 – 1:00:37] Adam: uh yeah we’ve done some skiing together but that was like the first time we’ve gone and done like a somewhat groomed trail loop together i think yeah so it was pretty fun uh i really enjoyed it and it was a really you know and something about doing that kind of exercise i was sore as heck after but then i like got home and like did a bunch of choring and i was just like charged up
[1:00:38 – 1:00:40] Adam: I was charged up.
[1:00:40 – 1:00:43] Adam: Some people say that exercise gives you more energy.
[1:00:43 – 1:00:45] Adam: I don’t know if that’s true or not, Eric.
[1:00:45 – 1:00:47] Adam: But I felt charged up.
[1:00:47 – 1:00:50] Erik: I totally think that it does, to be honest with you.
[1:00:50 – 1:00:51] Adam: I got a ton done.
[1:00:51 – 1:00:53] Adam: I had like 10 things on my list to do.
[1:00:53 – 1:01:00] Adam: I think I got like eight of them done after working half a day and skiing a 7K and drinking a few beers out in the woods with you.
[1:01:00 – 1:01:01] Adam: I was really moving.
[1:01:02 – 1:01:04] Erik: Working half a day.
[1:01:04 – 1:01:07] Erik: Skiing 7K.
[1:01:07 – 1:01:09] Adam: Drinking few beers.
[1:01:10 – 1:01:12] Adam: Out on pin cushion.
[1:01:13 – 1:01:14] Adam: We’re not allowed to sing on the show anymore.
[1:01:14 – 1:01:16] Erik: No, just not on the intro.
[1:01:17 – 1:01:17] Erik: We’re good.
[1:01:17 – 1:01:18] Erik: We’re well over an hour now.
[1:01:18 – 1:01:19] Adam: We can sing well into the meat.
[1:01:20 – 1:01:22] Adam: Well into the meat.
[1:01:22 – 1:01:23] Adam: With the Strigiforms.
[1:01:23 – 1:01:24] Adam: Strigiforms stream.
[1:01:24 – 1:01:26] Adam: Coming to you live from Studio K2.
[1:01:27 – 1:01:28] Erik: After light.
[1:01:28 – 1:01:29] Adam: After light.
[1:01:30 – 1:01:33] Erik: Oh!
[1:01:34 – 1:01:35] Adam: Beautiful.
[1:01:36 – 1:01:44] Adam: So, yeah, this is all just a build-up to the real, like, end-of-winter finale we’re going towards.
[1:01:45 – 1:01:48] Adam: And, of course, that’s the Tumbleys, not the Band of Dad.
[1:01:49 – 1:01:49] Adam: The Tumbleys.
[1:01:50 – 1:02:09] Adam: oh you’re talking tumblies no i’m just talking about the banner dad i was joking the banner dad is really i think they uh you know other than the birth of my son probably going to be the highlight of this week i sure would hope so we’re bringing them uh we’re bringing the boy with uh
[1:02:09 – 1:02:12] Adam: you know, put them in one of those little, uh, backpacks.
[1:02:12 – 1:02:13] Adam: They put the children in.
[1:02:13 – 1:02:15] Adam: I’m sure that’s going to be fine.
[1:02:15 – 1:02:15] Erik: Yeah.
[1:02:16 – 1:02:17] Adam: Uh, we’re all having a good time on here.
[1:02:17 – 1:02:18] Adam: Yeah.
[1:02:18 – 1:02:19] Adam: Baby’s loving it.
[1:02:20 – 1:02:22] Adam: Anybody take a baby on the band of dad?
[1:02:23 – 1:02:24] Adam: How much formula do you need?
[1:02:24 – 1:02:27] Adam: I don’t want to send me that.
[1:02:28 – 1:02:29] Adam: Send it to me.
[1:02:29 – 1:02:30] Adam: I’m an Instagram tumble.
[1:02:30 – 1:02:31] Adam: I’m casted.
[1:02:31 – 1:02:31] Adam: Instagram.
[1:02:31 – 1:02:34] Adam: Do you really need to use distilled water and formula?
[1:02:34 – 1:02:35] Adam: Is that true?
[1:02:36 – 1:02:36] Adam: Oat milk?
[1:02:36 – 1:02:37] Adam: Is that a thing?
[1:02:38 – 1:02:38] Adam: Uh, anyways, uh,
[1:02:39 – 1:02:46] Adam: We’re skiing our syrup feed off this winter here on the North Shore, getting a ton of snow.
[1:02:47 – 1:02:53] Adam: It’s been, as Eric said early in the show, an amazing and inspiring winter so far.
[1:02:53 – 1:02:55] Adam: I don’t remember saying that, actually.
[1:02:55 – 1:03:04] Adam: Pretty much just like drinking a lemon haze IPA on a kayak out on the Chippewa Flowage in the middle of August.
[1:03:05 – 1:03:07] Adam: It’s like that every day here on the North Shore.
[1:03:08 – 1:03:15] Erik: Can you tell what any of the people that are on the cover of the beer artwork are doing?
[1:03:16 – 1:03:20] Erik: To me, but the weird thing is, is they’re not on the can.
[1:03:21 – 1:03:23] Adam: They’re only… Those people on the shore?
[1:03:23 – 1:03:23] Erik: Yeah.
[1:03:23 – 1:03:24] Adam: Those monsters?
[1:03:24 – 1:03:26] Erik: The people on the shore aren’t on the…
[1:03:26 – 1:03:28] Adam: I think they’re regular Paul Bunions.
[1:03:28 – 1:03:30] Erik: Different on the box.
[1:03:30 – 1:03:31] Erik: No, they are.
[1:03:32 – 1:03:35] Erik: It looks like some people sitting next to maybe a campfire.
[1:03:35 – 1:03:36] Erik: I think they’re petting a dog.
[1:03:36 – 1:03:43] Erik: And then the people on the far right look like they’re sitting in a paddle boat, but on shore.
[1:03:43 – 1:03:44] Adam: They’re just up in the weeds.
[1:03:44 – 1:03:46] Adam: Yeah, they’re just kind of stuck in the weeds.
[1:03:46 – 1:03:47] Adam: Two jet skis.
[1:03:47 – 1:03:49] Adam: They got their jet skis a little clogged up with weed.
[1:03:51 – 1:03:52] Erik: They look like clip art, though.
[1:03:52 – 1:03:53] Erik: They’re just like dragged and dropped.
[1:03:54 – 1:03:56] Adam: I can’t believe you’re really worried that much.
[1:03:57 – 1:04:00] Adam: You know, you’re a little too worried about the can art, I guess.
[1:04:00 – 1:04:04] Erik: But it is funny that there is that much like the tiniest bit of detail in there.
[1:04:04 – 1:04:04] Adam: Yeah.
[1:04:06 – 1:04:07] Erik: But then it doesn’t translate.
[1:04:07 – 1:04:07] Erik: They’re not on the can.
[1:04:08 – 1:04:08] Adam: It is.
[1:04:08 – 1:04:10] Adam: It’s a different can from maybe each can is different, though.
[1:04:10 – 1:04:11] Adam: Who knows?
[1:04:11 – 1:04:11] Adam: Who knows?
[1:04:12 – 1:04:20] Erik: Yeah, it’s like each can does have a part of the front of the can has two of the people that are on there.
[1:04:20 – 1:04:23] Erik: But then the back of the can is the jet ski boys.
[1:04:24 – 1:04:25] Adam: Well, there you go.
[1:04:25 – 1:04:26] Adam: It’s a panorama.
[1:04:26 – 1:04:27] Erik: Yeah, it’s a panorama.
[1:04:27 – 1:04:28] Adam: That’s what’s happening here.
[1:04:28 – 1:04:35] Adam: Thank you, Keith, for the nice panorama and the Lion and Kugel’s Lemon Haze IPA.
[1:04:36 – 1:04:41] Adam: Sure appreciate you keeping us hydrated on a beautiful February evening here at Studio K2.
[1:04:42 – 1:04:44] Adam: Shout out to all our friends on Patreon.
[1:04:45 – 1:04:53] Adam: Thank you for everything you do to keep us a proud independent podcast that can talk about whatever we want all winter long.
[1:04:54 – 1:05:21] Adam: thank you very much and also remember the question of the week we have a new one up make sure you get in there on the subreddit tumblehomecast on reddit you want to go ahead and let us know what creature would you want to paddle with out to Krakatua or Fiji
[1:05:22 – 1:05:25] Erik: It’s not creature, it’s any fictional character.
[1:05:25 – 1:05:30] Adam: What kind of fictional creature or character would you want to paddle to in your tribe?
[1:05:30 – 1:05:33] Adam: Outlast, outwit, outplay, Eric.
[1:05:35 – 1:05:35] Adam: Survivor.
[1:05:38 – 1:05:40] Adam: Survivor Quetico.
[1:05:40 – 1:05:45] Adam: Mark Burnett, if you’re listening or if you’re out there, why have you not done a Survivor Quetico yet?
[1:05:46 – 1:05:49] Adam: Is it because the Ontario government is stifling you?
[1:05:49 – 1:05:50] Adam: No permission from the Queen.
[1:05:50 – 1:05:53] Adam: Yeah, the Queen’s permission is needed for that, for sure.
[1:05:53 – 1:06:03] Adam: Yeah, you said earlier, like, oh, I can listen, I can hear the Survivor theme in my head, and I was like, I’m not hearing it, but…
[1:06:05 – 1:06:06] Adam: I’m hearing it now, baby.
[1:06:07 – 1:06:08] Erik: Tiki Torches.
[1:06:08 – 1:06:09] Erik: The theme song.
[1:06:09 – 1:06:12] Erik: Your journey has ended.
