[0:01:38 – 0:01:40] Erik: It was pretty good.
[0:01:40 – 0:01:50] Erik: There’s a couple of shorter John Steinbeck books that I have not read, but I have been holding on to Grapes of Wrath as just the last little…
[0:01:53 – 0:02:13] Erik: i don’t want to read it because then it’s all over i’ve read everything else and i’ve loved all of it and it’s just kind of that last little prized like gift of a book that that should be there first in the new tumble home literary series we’re going to be starting we’ll read uh the book club uh grapes are at wow there you go first time start a book club

[0:02:17 – 0:02:20] Adam: We’ll discuss it chapter by chapter.
[0:02:20 – 0:02:25] Erik: Yeah, let’s see how many more plates can I spin in my life right now.
[0:02:25 – 0:02:41] Erik: Let’s add in a book club, maybe a couple more podcasts I can start, as well as running an outfitting business and a number of other things that I’m not going to tell you listeners.

[0:02:43 – 0:02:44] Erik: I’ve got ventures.
[0:02:45 – 0:02:45] Erik: Wow.
[0:02:46 – 0:02:48] Erik: I’ve got coins buried in the yard.
[0:02:49 – 0:02:52] Erik: Real coins, not crypto coins.
[0:02:52 – 0:02:52] Adam: Yeah, right.
[0:02:55 – 0:02:56] Adam: It’s smart to keep them in the yard.
[0:02:56 – 0:02:59] Erik: I have a physical Dogecoin buried in the yard.
[0:03:00 – 0:03:01] Adam: That’s crazy.
[0:03:01 – 0:03:04] Adam: I love it.
[0:03:04 – 0:03:10] Adam: Tumble Home is, as always, sponsored by our wonderful friends on Patreon.

[0:03:16 – 0:03:18] Erik: Especially, yeah, I’m sure you’re enjoying it.
[0:03:18 – 0:03:20] Adam: All that technical mumbo jumbo.
[0:03:20 – 0:03:25] Adam: The Gmail account, that costs a couple thousand a year to be on Instagram.
[0:03:25 – 0:03:28] Erik: Last time I checked, Gmail was free, but…
[0:03:29 – 0:03:33] Adam: We’re still going for 500 listeners on the subreddit.
[0:03:33 – 0:03:34] Adam: Eric’s going to eat a hat.
[0:03:35 – 0:03:37] Adam: You heard it here a second week in a row now.
[0:03:37 – 0:03:38] Adam: A piece of a hat.
[0:03:38 – 0:03:46] Adam: He’s eating a piece of a hat and going to go with a mustache if we get 500 listeners on the subreddit.
[0:03:46 – 0:03:50] Adam: So I’m guessing most of the Patreons are already on the subreddit.
[0:03:50 – 0:03:54] Adam: If you’re a Patreon and you’re not on the subreddit, you’re missing out on some grade A meme stuff.
[0:03:55 – 0:04:14] Adam: uh game and a lot of fun discussions and uh the occasional like movie poster uh featuring richard dreyfus and a b-17 oh yeah fire bomber scooper five dollars a month you can listen to our incredible uh uh dissection of the movie always
[0:04:15 – 0:04:16] Erik: We haven’t seen it.
[0:04:16 – 0:04:19] Erik: I’m going out on a limb and promising that that will be a thing.
[0:04:19 – 0:04:20] Adam: That’s our next one.
[0:04:20 – 0:04:21] Adam: We’re doing always.
[0:04:21 – 0:04:22] Adam: I can’t wait.
[0:04:23 – 0:04:29] Erik: I want to know what the genre of movie that is listed as romance slash fantasy.
[0:04:29 – 0:04:33] Adam: Slash World War II firefighter bomber.
[0:04:33 – 0:04:34] Adam: What does that look like?
[0:04:35 – 0:04:36] Adam: I’m really intrigued.
[0:04:37 – 0:04:37] Adam: I can’t wait.
[0:04:37 – 0:04:38] Adam: Yeah.
[0:04:38 – 0:04:41] Adam: I am intrigued as well.
[0:04:42 – 0:04:43] Adam: By juicy gossip.
[0:04:44 – 0:04:45] Adam: Juicy gossip.
[0:04:45 – 0:04:46] Adam: It’s always something.
[0:04:48 – 0:04:50] Adam: What you been hearing over there, Eric?
[0:04:51 – 0:05:15] Adam: i’m in here about some juicy gossip and that’s also this week’s sponsor juicy gossip uh we had another alternate sponsor lined up i think we have an email from this person yes we do we’ll be getting a shout out to uh the email correspondent who uh hand delivered some uh additional beers but there’ll be a future show sponsor so get double uh shout outs but
[0:05:15 – 0:05:19] Adam: Since the email is going to be on this show, we’re going to have to give it a shout-out.
[0:05:19 – 0:05:21] Erik: We will shout it out, but the beer will not be.
[0:05:21 – 0:05:23] Erik: That might be a parking lot beer.
[0:05:23 – 0:05:24] Adam: A glove box warming.
[0:05:24 – 0:05:26] Adam: No, it will not.
[0:05:26 – 0:05:28] Adam: We’ll keep it cold.
[0:05:28 – 0:05:28] Adam: It is ice cold right now.
[0:05:28 – 0:05:31] Adam: It’s just not here in space and time.
[0:05:31 – 0:05:41] Erik: But this is a Bell’s Juicy Gossip Juicy Pale Ale in the short can.
[0:05:42 – 0:05:44] Adam: Tally-ho, Eric.
[0:05:48 – 0:05:48] Adam: Okay.
[0:05:52 – 0:05:56] Erik: That’s, yeah, that’s a juicy pale ale.
[0:05:56 – 0:06:00] Erik: Surprisingly light on the ABV.
[0:06:01 – 0:06:03] Erik: 4.7% on the Juicy Gossip.
[0:06:03 – 0:06:07] Erik: I really like the can artwork, though, the, like, comic book.
[0:06:07 – 0:06:08] Erik: I believe it’s pop art.
[0:06:09 – 0:06:11] Erik: Oh, we’re going to get into that discussion again?
[0:06:12 – 0:06:13] Erik: Is it art deco or is it pop art?
[0:06:13 – 0:06:17] Adam: This is more pop art with a classical sensibility.
[0:06:18 – 0:06:19] Erik: Has everything been done?
[0:06:20 – 0:06:22] Adam: No, nothing’s been done.
[0:06:22 – 0:06:23] Adam: Does it have to be?
[0:06:23 – 0:06:24] Adam: Nothing at all has been done.
[0:06:24 – 0:06:26] Adam: Like a sliver of thing has been done.
[0:06:27 – 0:06:28] Erik: Wow.
[0:06:29 – 0:06:30] Erik: That is optimistic to think that way.
[0:06:31 – 0:06:37] Erik: I think everything’s been done and it’s all just, what’s the word?
[0:06:39 – 0:06:40] Erik: Recursive?
[0:06:40 – 0:06:41] Erik: Is that the word?
[0:06:41 – 0:06:41] Erik: Is that a word?
[0:06:43 – 0:06:43] Erik: I don’t know.
[0:06:43 – 0:06:44] Adam: I think it is.
[0:06:44 – 0:06:46] Adam: I think I’m like redundant.
[0:06:47 – 0:06:48] Erik: Well, yeah, redundant for sure.
[0:06:49 – 0:06:50] Erik: Not necessarily redundant, but it’s all just like.
[0:06:51 – 0:06:51] Erik: What did you say?
[0:06:51 – 0:06:52] Erik: Recursive?
[0:06:52 – 0:06:52] Erik: Recursive.
[0:06:53 – 0:06:53] Erik: Is that a word?
[0:06:53 – 0:06:54] Erik: I’m going to type that in.
[0:06:55 – 0:06:55] Adam: Maybe.
[0:06:55 – 0:06:56] Adam: I’m going to say 55%.
[0:07:01 – 0:07:05] Erik: Yes, characterized by recurrence or repetition.
[0:07:05 – 0:07:05] Adam: Nailed it.
[0:07:06 – 0:07:08] Adam: Cheers to myself.
[0:07:08 – 0:07:09] Adam: Wow.
[0:07:09 – 0:07:11] Adam: Do not play this guy in Scrabble.
[0:07:11 – 0:07:12] Adam: Wow.
[0:07:12 – 0:07:13] Erik: That’s totally different.
[0:07:13 – 0:07:15] Erik: I’m a thesaurus man.
[0:07:15 – 0:07:18] Erik: I’m not a Scrabble.
[0:07:18 – 0:07:19] Adam: You’re not a math puzzler?
[0:07:19 – 0:07:20] Adam: No.
[0:07:20 – 0:07:24] Adam: I can lay this word, but I can lay the shorter word for five times the point due to the sequencing.
[0:07:26 – 0:07:27] Erik: I didn’t hear anything you just said.
[0:07:29 – 0:07:30] Erik: That’s some juicy gossip.
[0:07:30 – 0:07:39] Adam: I’m going to give that a 10 out of 5 Q’s from Scrabble, not QAnon.
[0:07:40 – 0:07:41] Adam: How many Q’s are in Scrabble?
[0:07:41 – 0:07:42] Adam: One, I think.
[0:07:42 – 0:07:43] Adam: Just one?
[0:07:43 – 0:07:44] Adam: Yeah, you get one of them.
[0:07:44 – 0:07:45] Adam: That’s why they’re worth 10.
[0:07:45 – 0:07:46] Adam: Maybe there’s two.
[0:07:46 – 0:07:47] Adam: There should be two, actually.
[0:07:47 – 0:07:48] Adam: I think there’s two.
[0:07:48 – 0:07:50] Adam: I don’t play a lot of Scrabble, obviously.
[0:07:51 – 0:07:52] Adam: Nothing’s been done.
[0:07:52 – 0:07:55] Adam: We’re not even the most advanced species on planet Earth.
[0:07:55 – 0:07:57] Adam: We’re in the weakest of all dimensions.
[0:07:58 – 0:08:00] Erik: That remains to be seen.
[0:08:00 – 0:08:06] Adam: Hardly anything’s been done in the third dimension, let alone with the dimensions we don’t even know about as humans on a podcast.
[0:08:07 – 0:08:10] Adam: This is the last podcast of this show.
[0:08:10 – 0:08:11] Erik: This has been Tumble Home.
[0:08:11 – 0:08:13] Erik: Thank you for joining us.
[0:08:13 – 0:08:14] Adam: We have ascended.
[0:08:14 – 0:08:15] Adam: That’s another word for you.
[0:08:17 – 0:08:41] Adam: are we gonna give it yeah i’ll give it a i’m gonna give it honestly a four out of five i’m gonna go ahead and give it a four out of five juices we’re in agreement it’s a four out of five pretty good nice pop art pretty good not that good though it’s also i think four i think it’s kind of old i’m not gonna give it a three or two i’m not a monster
[0:08:42 – 0:08:44] Erik: 10-3 of 20, this was brewed.
[0:08:44 – 0:08:46] Erik: It’s got a shelf life of six months, so I think it’s…
[0:08:46 – 0:08:47] Erik: It’s not juicy enough.
[0:08:47 – 0:08:48] Erik: We’re pushing.
[0:08:50 – 0:08:54] Erik: It doesn’t help that this came from a sampler pack called the Jingle Bells Sampler Pack.
[0:08:54 – 0:08:57] Adam: You did tell me it was from the Jingle Bells Sampler, so there was that.
[0:08:58 – 0:09:02] Erik: I’ll take my chances, I guess, but this doesn’t seem really fresh.
[0:09:04 – 0:09:04] Adam Pew Pew Pew: Anyway…
[0:09:05 – 0:09:06] Adam: Moving on.
[0:09:07 – 0:09:10] Adam: I got an over-under for you before we start on the meat, Eric.
[0:09:10 – 0:09:11] Erik: Let’s over-under it.
[0:09:11 – 0:09:18] Adam: This is two episodes in a row that I’ve grabbed your hand right as you’re about to throw the steaks on the grill.
[0:09:19 – 0:09:23] Erik: Last week, I literally partially seared one side.
[0:09:23 – 0:09:23] Adam: It was close.
[0:09:24 – 0:09:24] Adam: It was close.
[0:09:24 – 0:09:28] Adam: I’m going to go ahead and give you the over-under here on mentions this week of…
[0:09:29 – 0:09:56] Erik: gibiana quet lake or and or the chairs of gibiana quet well that was only one mention so we had two last week i think uh i’m gonna go ahead and put the over under at two this week on gibiana quets it seems you haven’t read ahead i have not yeah it seems like last week there was a lot of uh vento units and llc trips planned haven’t really seen much planned in the heart of the park and or uh border regions haven’t heard any mentions of knife really
[0:09:57 – 0:09:59] Erik: Some soft underbelly trips happening.
[0:10:00 – 0:10:01] Erik: I’m going to go ahead and say over-under.
[0:10:01 – 0:10:03] Erik: What is over-under?
[0:10:03 – 0:10:04] Adam: Am I setting the line?
[0:10:04 – 0:10:05] Adam: No, I’m setting it at two.
[0:10:05 – 0:10:06] Adam: Over-under is two.
[0:10:06 – 0:10:08] Adam: Over-under on Gibeoniquets?
[0:10:08 – 0:10:10] Adam: I’m being a stinker over here setting it at two.
[0:10:10 – 0:10:12] Adam: Yeah, Gibeoniquets.
[0:10:12 – 0:10:15] Erik: I don’t know anything about sports betting or really betting in general.
[0:10:15 – 0:10:16] Erik: Can you bet two and get like triple?
[0:10:17 – 0:10:18] Adam: No, that’s not how an over-under works.
[0:10:18 – 0:10:19] Adam: You cannot bet two.
[0:10:21 – 0:10:48] Erik: That’s the thing See Okay So I got you either way I don’t So it’ll probably be two And then you also lose That’s how they get you That’s how they get you Eric It’s the green double zero On the roulette wheel Yeah pretty much I’m gonna say under I think we’ve blown The Gabe Ianaquit Mentions Going under I don’t think it’s gonna be Mentioned once Going under Zero I’ll go over then I guess Yeah well you kinda have to For playing up and down The river rules
[0:10:49 – 0:10:50] Adam Pew Pew Pew: Yeah, I can’t take the middle.
[0:10:50 – 0:10:52] Adam: You got to go one way or the other.
[0:10:52 – 0:10:54] Adam: You can’t paddle right into the damn rock in the middle.
[0:10:55 – 0:10:57] Adam: Don’t want to Kevin Bacon this thing, Eric.
[0:10:57 – 0:10:57] Erik: Nope.
[0:10:59 – 0:11:01] Adam: All right.
[0:11:01 – 0:11:02] Adam: I think we got to get to the meat now.
[0:11:03 – 0:11:04] Adam: Not that we’ve established our bet.
[0:11:05 – 0:11:05] Erik: Meat time?
[0:11:06 – 0:11:06] Adam: Yeah.
[0:11:06 – 0:11:06] Adam: All right.
[0:11:09 – 0:11:10] Adam: Time for the sizzle.
[0:11:11 – 0:11:14] Adam: That was also mediocre.
[0:11:15 – 0:11:18] Adam: My personal chiptune game, not so good.
[0:11:18 – 0:11:21] Adam: Insert some sizzle noises.
[0:11:21 – 0:11:23] Adam: Even my party horns lately are like off.
[0:11:23 – 0:11:29] Adam: I got to go for a long walk and fix my party horn before we get to real paddling here.
[0:11:29 – 0:11:31] Adam: But it is paddling.
[0:11:31 – 0:11:31] Adam: Paddling is here.
[0:11:31 – 0:11:32] Adam: Time to get that party horn ready.
[0:11:33 – 0:11:33] Adam: Ready?
[0:11:33 – 0:11:36] Adam Pew Pew Pew: Pew, pew, pew, pew, pew, pew, pew, pew, pew, pew, pew.
[0:11:36 – 0:11:37] Adam: Time for the meat.
[0:11:38 – 0:11:38] Adam: That was pretty good.
[0:11:39 – 0:11:39] Erik: Chomp, chomp.
[0:11:39 – 0:11:40] Erik: Time for the meat.
[0:11:41 – 0:11:42] Erik: That was better.
[0:11:42 – 0:11:44] Erik: I still feel like you can improve.
[0:11:44 – 0:11:46] Adam: Sure.
[0:11:46 – 0:11:47] Adam: We can always improve.
[0:11:47 – 0:11:48] Erik: You’re getting there.
[0:11:48 – 0:11:51] Adam: We just had a sliver of the current reality.
[0:11:52 – 0:12:03] Erik: What’s the ology of just keeping track of the daily highs and lows and changes to the surroundings on a year-to-year basis?
[0:12:03 – 0:12:06] Adam: You’re talking like the Farmer’s Almanac data?
[0:12:06 – 0:12:08] Adam: Kind of.
[0:12:08 – 0:12:09] Adam: Yeah, there is a name for that.
[0:12:09 – 0:12:10] Adam: There is a name for that.
[0:12:10 – 0:12:11] Erik: But I’m looking forward to…
[0:12:11 – 0:12:13] Erik: I’m starting that this year at Clearwater.
[0:12:13 – 0:12:15] Erik: I want to do a… Phrenology.
[0:12:15 – 0:12:16] Erik: Well, that’s…
[0:12:16 – 0:12:17] Erik: I believe it’s phrenology.
[0:12:17 – 0:12:21] Erik: No, that’s the study of the shape of one’s skull, and it has been…
[0:12:21 – 0:12:50] Erik: debunked as a fake sign fake form of science oh phrenology like yeah they’re used you’ve seen those like the skull uh mannequins that’s what that is yeah i asked the god thought that was like the you know keeping like a weather journal no no phrenology is the like like pretending like the shape of your skull determines certain parts of your like personality that’s phrenology
[0:12:50 – 0:13:13] Erik: huh yeah that was a fact check on the fly yeah but i’m i want to start doing that in clear water and i want to do it uh like air temperature and like uh like highs and lows how deep are you going and do the barometer i i mean if i can get my hands on a barometer but i also want to do i can get you a barometer by three o’clock all right
[0:13:13 – 0:13:36] Erik: by three o’clock it’s 4 30 tomorrow yeah um it’s also a really good roots album remember them roots yeah oh yeah i love the roots um but i want to do water temperature as well because i get a lot of calls i’m like what’s the temperature of the water i’m like yeah i don’t really even think about that as a thing but um so you can get like an official buoy
[0:13:37 – 0:13:38] Erik: An official buoy.
[0:13:39 – 0:13:40] Erik: I don’t know if I need a buoy.
[0:13:40 – 0:13:47] Erik: I think I’m just going to get one of those infrared COVID tester guns and just point it at the lake and see what happens.
[0:13:48 – 0:13:55] Adam: I would think you should get a big old weather station at the end of the dock with a little buoy in place of that duck.
[0:13:55 – 0:14:00] Erik: A twister style wind turbine Dorothy spinner.
[0:14:00 – 0:14:02] Adam: Yeah, exactly.
[0:14:03 – 0:14:29] Adam: okay well let’s and uh yeah get it like put it up on weather underground live buoy action there’s already a station on clearwater lake yeah but they don’t have water temp you gotta get upgraded buoy technology out there but if like if we set it up just at the end of the dock it’s like eight feet deep there like that’s not good yeah you gotta i mean it’s gonna be a little skewed obviously you can never get the full measurement of the water temperature of an entire lake but
[0:14:32 – 0:14:33] Erik: Right off the end of the dock doesn’t seem like…
[0:14:35 – 0:14:37] Erik: I mean, you can take that information and use it as you will.
[0:14:37 – 0:14:37] Erik: Yeah.
[0:14:37 – 0:14:39] Erik: So, yeah, we’ll get a full-blown…
[0:14:39 – 0:14:39] Adam: These are dock temps.
[0:14:40 – 0:14:42] Adam: These are, you know, middle-of-the-lake temps.
[0:14:43 – 0:14:44] Adam: Dock temps.
[0:14:45 – 0:14:47] Adam: Yeah, get yourself a nice buoy.
[0:14:47 – 0:14:49] Adam: I think that’ll be fun.
[0:14:50 – 0:14:52] Erik: How about a water trampoline?
[0:14:52 – 0:14:52] Erik: We used to have one of those.
[0:14:52 – 0:14:53] Erik: Remember that?
[0:14:53 – 0:14:53] Adam: With a camera on it.
[0:14:55 – 0:14:57] Adam: Nobody knows what happened to the water trampoline.
[0:14:57 – 0:14:58] Adam: I don’t.
[0:14:58 – 0:14:59] Adam: Some say they sold it.
[0:15:00 – 0:15:01] Erik: Some say it’s still out there.
[0:15:01 – 0:15:03] Adam: Some say it’s out there to this day.
[0:15:04 – 0:15:07] Erik: Some say it’s still bouncing.
[0:15:08 – 0:15:10] Erik: Well, we’ve got an email.
[0:15:10 – 0:15:11] Erik: You kind of teased it a little bit.
[0:15:11 – 0:15:13] Erik: Yeah, a new friend of the show.
[0:15:13 – 0:15:16] Erik: Yeah, this emailer did drop off some beer.
[0:15:17 – 0:15:18] Erik: Kind of a bit of a funny story.
[0:15:19 – 0:15:24] Erik: Adam was like, yeah, this guy found me and apparently dropped off beer at the place that I work.
[0:15:24 – 0:15:25] Erik: And I was like, I don’t think anybody knew where you worked.
[0:15:25 – 0:15:32] Erik: And then I went back and found that I, in fact, did just directly email him back exactly where you worked.
[0:15:32 – 0:15:34] Erik: It’s a good thing he was a nice guy and not a murderer.
[0:15:37 – 0:15:59] Adam: Rick was cool he was a cool dude ran into him and we shot some golf together and cool dude and so we have the beers thank you Rick or about to read your email but I didn’t I don’t we don’t have them with us so they’re gonna be a sponsor in a week or so yes roughly speaking
[0:16:00 – 0:16:22] Adam: before the uh yeah that was fun that was fun to meet them and then sure enough the beers were still there in case you’re curious because uh you know beers can disappear but uh no i have honorable co-workers and they were in the cooler when i got to work honorable co-workers thank you co-workers are you listening are you out there no none of them listen tumble homies
[0:16:24 – 0:16:26] Erik: Just wanted to shout out my pending trip.
[0:16:26 – 0:16:28] Erik: This is in three days.
[0:16:28 – 0:16:29] Erik: This was sent 10 days ago.
[0:16:30 – 0:16:32] Erik: So this trip has happened, obviously.
[0:16:33 – 0:16:36] Erik: Into the B-Dub for the first time in well over 10 years.
[0:16:37 – 0:16:41] Erik: Solo, haven’t paddled in a while, but I’m sure I’ll be totally fine.
[0:16:41 – 0:16:54] Erik: Taking it super easy and cautious, only planning to get from entry point 14 to the southeast section of LLC and see some pictos and do some legal fishing on the border waters.
[0:16:54 – 0:16:56] Erik: That’s right, don’t cross that border.
[0:16:56 – 0:16:56] Erik: Do not.
[0:16:57 – 0:17:00] Erik: Our attorney has advised us.
[0:17:00 – 0:17:08] Adam: Our derelict attorney has advised us to never suggest that going across the border to view pictographs ever.
[0:17:08 – 0:17:09] Adam: Don’t do it.
[0:17:09 – 0:17:10] Erik: No.
[0:17:10 – 0:17:12] Erik: You’ve never heard it here that we would suggest that ever.
[0:17:13 – 0:17:17] Erik: Got a weird time off this year, so solo and early season is my only chance.
[0:17:18 – 0:17:23] Erik: Having moved to Georgia two years ago and frankly not liking the South.
[0:17:24 – 0:17:27] Erik: This trip has been a dream of mine ever since the move.
[0:17:27 – 0:17:34] Erik: Lo and behold, last summer the pandemic depression starts setting in and I discover a mental escape.
[0:17:34 – 0:17:37] Erik: This rando podcast called Tumble Home.
[0:17:38 – 0:17:38] Erik: That’s us.
[0:17:39 – 0:17:41] Erik: Details, information, jokes, and accents.
[0:17:42 – 0:18:04] Erik: accents we have accents wait a second rick do not even say anything about an accent i speak perfectly plain middle of the road english that’s a horse a piece have contributed to keeping me sane throughout the pandemic and finally i’m almost there drove up today which is monday at this point now almost over two weeks ago
[0:18:05 – 0:18:07] Erik: Finishing the drive to Ely tomorrow.
[0:18:07 – 0:18:11] Erik: A day to gather my thoughts, properly pack gear, and pre-dice my produce.
[0:18:11 – 0:18:14] Erik: And I’ll be off on Thursday for six days.
[0:18:14 – 0:18:15] Erik: Nice.
[0:18:17 – 0:18:19] Erik: Well, let us know.
[0:18:19 – 0:18:20] Erik: How did the trip go, Rick?
[0:18:20 – 0:18:21] Erik: You may have heard from him.
[0:18:22 – 0:18:22] Erik: I’m not sure.
[0:18:22 – 0:18:24] Erik: He had an awesome time.
[0:18:25 – 0:18:26] Adam: Go ahead and spoil it.
[0:18:26 – 0:18:27] Adam: Spoiler.
[0:18:27 – 0:18:28] Adam: He had a pretty good time.
[0:18:28 – 0:18:29] Adam: He had a great time.
[0:18:29 – 0:18:30] Adam: I mean, it didn’t go as planned.
[0:18:30 – 0:18:31] Adam: I’ll say that.
[0:18:31 – 0:18:33] Adam: But still had a good time.
[0:18:33 – 0:18:33] Erik: Nice.
[0:18:33 – 0:18:38] Erik: The beers that he dropped off will be featured shortly.
[0:18:38 – 0:18:40] Erik: I love the name of the brewery.
[0:18:41 – 0:18:43] Erik: I won’t spoil that for you.
[0:18:43 – 0:18:46] Erik: You’ll just have to continue listening if you want to find out
[0:18:47 – 0:18:48] Erik: What did Rick drop off?
[0:18:48 – 0:18:50] Erik: What did Rick drop off?
[0:18:50 – 0:18:51] Adam: When he was nice and didn’t murder me.
[0:18:52 – 0:18:53] Erik: Will Eric eat a hat?
[0:18:55 – 0:18:56] Erik: With a mustache.
[0:18:57 – 0:18:58] Adam: Will Eric dox me?
[0:18:58 – 0:19:01] Adam: Will he download Adobe Flash Player?
[0:19:01 – 0:19:01] Adam: We don’t know.
[0:19:01 – 0:19:04] Erik: Will Eric finally update Adobe?
[0:19:04 – 0:19:06] Adam: Anybody listening to this, please don’t murder us.
[0:19:06 – 0:19:07] Adam: We’re nice.
[0:19:07 – 0:19:09] Adam: We’ll just all be friends and we can have a beer together.
[0:19:10 – 0:19:14] Erik: The first time one of us gets murdered, I can promise you it will be the end of the podcast.
[0:19:14 – 0:19:16] Adam: Yeah, that’s a guarantee.
[0:19:18 – 0:19:19] Adam: It was pretty sweet.
[0:19:19 – 0:19:20] Adam: Rick was a really nice dude.
[0:19:20 – 0:19:24] Adam: It was fun playing golf with somebody new.
[0:19:25 – 0:19:25] Erik: Yeah.
[0:19:26 – 0:19:29] Adam: I banged like a 50-foot putt in front of him, too.
[0:19:29 – 0:19:30] Adam: Nice.
[0:19:31 – 0:19:35] Adam: Yeah, and then I gave him a couple of good recommendations.
[0:19:35 – 0:19:36] Adam: Did you make it to Anchor?
[0:19:37 – 0:19:38] Adam: Did you get the Anchor burger?
[0:19:39 – 0:19:40] Adam: I didn’t hear about that.
[0:19:40 – 0:19:42] Adam: Is that the end of the email?
[0:19:42 – 0:19:43] Erik: That is the end of the email.
[0:19:43 – 0:19:49] Erik: Boy, we’re not even to 20 minutes, and we’re already laying down piles of meat.
[0:19:51 – 0:19:56] Adam: Well, we got some dessert this week, so we got to make sure we get the main course going early.
[0:19:56 – 0:19:57] Erik: What’s the dessert?
[0:19:58 – 0:20:01] Adam: We’re going to talk about Lake One mainly.
[0:20:01 – 0:20:03] Adam: That’s the dessert, I think.
[0:20:03 – 0:20:07] Erik: The idea on maybe the route for our trip.
[0:20:07 – 0:20:10] Adam: Hopefully get to listen to some Janet Jackson chiptune.
[0:20:10 – 0:20:12] Adam: Please make it happen.
[0:20:12 – 0:20:13] Erik: Well, we don’t know.
[0:20:13 – 0:20:17] Erik: It’s been a long week.
[0:20:17 – 0:20:18] Adam: I can try my hand at chiptune.
[0:20:19 – 0:20:20] Adam: I got the thing on my phone now.
[0:20:21 – 0:20:24] Erik: You got a thing on your phone that turns songs into chiptunes?
[0:20:24 – 0:20:26] Adam: No, it just makes music.
[0:20:26 – 0:20:27] Adam: Spotify?
[0:20:27 – 0:20:27] Adam: I don’t know.
[0:20:28 – 0:20:30] Adam: It just makes the music.
[0:20:30 – 0:20:34] Adam: No, it’s the beeps and the boops, Eric.
[0:20:34 – 0:20:36] Adam: Don’t worry, I got her under control.
[0:20:36 – 0:20:37] Adam: I trust you.
[0:20:37 – 0:20:40] Adam: If our main man doesn’t come through.
[0:20:40 – 0:20:41] Erik: Just send it to me in a gif.
[0:20:43 – 0:20:45] Adam: I’m going to have to go out to an enlightened management area.
[0:20:46 – 0:20:46] Adam: An EMA.
[0:20:46 – 0:20:47] Adam: Yeah.
[0:20:47 – 0:20:53] Adam: You will get out to an EMA and, uh, with garage band and I can make the boops and the beeps.
[0:20:53 – 0:21:02] Adam: Uh, I can, I can make, if you need to have the perfect version of garage band, the newer versions, you can’t, you gotta have the old versions.
[0:21:02 – 0:21:03] Erik: Never upgrade anything.
[0:21:04 – 0:21:04] Adam: All right.
[0:21:04 – 0:21:05] Adam: That’s now that’s good advice.
[0:21:07 – 0:21:07] Adam: All righty.
[0:21:08 – 0:21:14] Adam: And into part two with the conclusion of where is she going by?
[0:21:15 – 0:21:16] Erik: Where is she going by?
[0:21:16 – 0:21:20] Erik: The 2021 open water season is here.
[0:21:20 – 0:21:20] Adam: Let’s do it.
[0:21:21 – 0:21:23] Adam: Next up on the show, Square Jaw 77.
[0:21:24 – 0:21:26] Adam: Nine boxes of wine.
[0:21:26 – 0:21:27] Erik: You’ve been francied.
[0:21:29 – 0:21:31] Adam: This comment is super frenzied.
[0:21:31 – 0:21:32] Adam: Oh boy.
[0:21:32 – 0:21:32] Adam: Nice.
[0:21:58 – 0:22:02] Adam: We are also introducing my younger brother’s kids to the park.
[0:22:02 – 0:22:03] Adam: They have never been.
[0:22:03 – 0:22:06] Adam: I figured Rose Falls is a good destination for all.
[0:22:06 – 0:22:08] Adam: It is going to be a royal crap show.
[0:22:12 – 0:22:18] Adam: The second trip is a longer one and will likely end up around 45 to 50 miles with double portaging.
[0:22:18 – 0:22:27] Adam: entering Moose River North, heading up to LLC, swinging down through Geebee, and exiting Little Indian Sioux, Eric.
[0:22:27 – 0:22:28] Erik: That is right.
[0:22:29 – 0:22:33] Erik: Extra box of wine for you, Squarejaw.
[0:22:33 – 0:22:37] Erik: I still got the under, but I did miss on my official bet of zero.
[0:22:37 – 0:22:38] Adam: There’s a lot of show left.
[0:22:38 – 0:22:39] Adam: A lot of show left.
[0:22:39 – 0:22:39] Adam: Yeah, I know.
[0:22:39 – 0:22:42] Adam: The first comment, we got it.
[0:22:42 – 0:22:42] Adam: Jesus.
[0:22:42 – 0:22:43] Adam: I am exiting.
[0:22:44 – 0:22:45] Adam: I’m excited about the prospect.
[0:22:46 – 0:23:04] Adam: of seeing freshwater jellyfish on ruby or lynx sky sleeping is one of my goals this year so there is that also nice we’re going to get really creative with meal planning and dehydrated foods one new food is a dehydrated yogurt protein shake for breakfast yum
[0:23:06 – 0:23:11] Adam: We’re staying at Clearwater Lodge for the family trip, so we’ll bring some yummy suds.
[0:23:12 – 0:23:12] Adam: There it is.
[0:23:12 – 0:23:13] Erik: So excited.
[0:23:13 – 0:23:14] Erik: There you go.
[0:23:14 – 0:23:15] Erik: I think that’s the first besides Rick.
[0:23:15 – 0:23:16] Erik: Yummy suds.
[0:23:16 – 0:23:18] Erik: Yeah.
[0:23:18 – 0:23:20] Adam: Got to fill that fridge with yummy suds.
[0:23:20 – 0:23:23] Adam: So that’s one checkmark for Gibby Oniquette.
[0:23:23 – 0:23:23] Adam: God.
[0:23:24 – 0:23:24] Adam: All right.
[0:23:25 – 0:23:28] Adam: Pretty good comment, Squarejaw.
[0:23:31 – 0:23:36] Erik: Yeah, that sounds like a, like you mentioned, a royal crap show.
[0:23:37 – 0:23:42] Erik: Nine, any nine group, it’s just crazy to me.
[0:23:42 – 0:23:47] Erik: Like I’ve never been on a nine person trip, especially if it’s all family, like everybody that knows each other.
[0:23:47 – 0:23:49] Adam: Is it crap shoot or?
[0:23:50 – 0:23:51] Erik: Crap show.
[0:23:51 – 0:23:52] Erik: Crap show.
[0:23:52 – 0:23:57] Erik: Because, you know, the loons, they’re the champs.
[0:23:57 – 0:24:01] Erik: We can’t have them coming in and saving the day every episode.
[0:24:01 – 0:24:05] Erik: Sometimes we have to supplement out words that can actually be said.
[0:24:06 – 0:24:28] Adam: that’s an rcs royal crap show that’s a real rcs it’s a real rex and bobby scenario here yeah we got our rcs on our hands send backup i couldn’t imagine going out on a trip with all just all of my family i just yeah it’s like the scene where uh in home alone where they’re trying to get to the airport except for it’s in the boundary waters sprinting my cheese pizza yeah

[0:24:39 – 0:24:40] Adam: Christmas came early.

[0:24:41 – 0:24:42] Adam: It is.
[0:24:43 – 0:24:44] Adam: It’s from the Christmas pack.
[0:24:46 – 0:24:48] Erik: Smooth Operator.
[0:24:49 – 0:24:51] Erik: What’s the actual Smooth Operator?
[0:24:51 – 0:24:52] Erik: There’s a song, right?
[0:24:52 – 0:24:53] Erik: Smooth Operator?
[0:24:53 – 0:24:53] Adam: Yeah.
[0:24:54 – 0:24:55] Erik: Who sings that?

[0:25:02 – 0:25:04] Adam: Smooth Operator.
[0:25:05 – 0:25:05] Erik: It is Sade.
[0:25:06 – 0:25:06] Erik: Sade.
[0:25:06 – 0:25:07] Adam: Sade.
[0:25:07 – 0:25:08] Erik: Sade.

[0:25:25 – 0:25:31] Erik: We’ll get a smooth operator chiptune and see if one exists.
[0:25:32 – 0:25:35] Erik: If not, it’s up to Matt to make one.
[0:25:37 – 0:25:39] Erik: No, I’m not seeing one.
[0:25:40 – 0:25:40] Erik: All right.
[0:25:40 – 0:25:42] Erik: Smooth operator 2022.
[0:25:43 – 0:25:45] Erik: Sorry, just 22, not 2022.
[0:25:45 – 0:25:47] Erik: Let’s enjoy this year while we can.
[0:25:48 – 0:25:51] Erik: I have multiple trips planned once again.
[0:25:52 – 0:25:59] Erik: Well, three planned with permits purchased already and one, if not two others that have locations and dates yet to be planned.
[0:26:00 – 0:26:02] Erik: So it sounds like there could potentially be five.
[0:26:03 – 0:26:04] Erik: Dang.
[0:26:05 – 0:26:09] Erik: First trip leaving this Wednesday, April 28th.
[0:26:10 – 0:26:11] Erik: So this trip has happened.
[0:26:12 – 0:26:13] Erik: Oh, the old April trip.
[0:26:13 – 0:26:15] Erik: Out to Cherokee through Baker.
[0:26:16 – 0:26:20] Erik: Four nights, three people, one canoe, one kayak.
[0:26:20 – 0:26:21] Adam: Get out of here with that.
[0:26:21 – 0:26:23] Adam: We’re not going to read the rest of the operators.
[0:26:23 – 0:26:25] Adam: No, it’s cool.
[0:26:25 – 0:26:26] Adam: We’re all friends.
[0:26:26 – 0:26:26] Adam: Yeah.
[0:26:27 – 0:26:29] Adam: Everybody, all boats are welcome on the show.
[0:26:30 – 0:26:32] Erik: So it’s our new mantra, Eric.
[0:26:32 – 0:26:34] Adam: Remember, all boats are welcome, Eric.
[0:26:35 – 0:26:38] Erik: Don’t you remember the PR meeting we had yesterday?
[0:26:38 – 0:26:39] Erik: All boats are welcome.
[0:26:39 – 0:26:43] Adam: I’m going to have to have Karen do another Zoom meeting if you keep this up.
[0:26:44 – 0:26:45] Adam: So be cool.
[0:26:46 – 0:26:47] Adam: No, but seriously, come on.
[0:26:47 – 0:26:48] Adam: Kayak.
[0:26:48 – 0:26:49] Adam: Oh, hey.
[0:26:50 – 0:26:51] Adam: Now we’re both in trouble, Ian.
[0:26:51 – 0:26:52] Erik: Now the attorney is sending us another.
[0:26:53 – 0:26:53] Erik: Oh, Jesus.
[0:26:53 – 0:26:55] Adam: The derelict attorney is texting.
[0:26:56 – 0:26:59] Erik: Trip two, well, I’m glad you made it out to Cherokee and back.
[0:26:59 – 0:26:59] Erik: That’s awesome.
[0:26:59 – 0:27:02] Erik: Yeah, Cherokee trip in April through Baker.
[0:27:02 – 0:27:02] Erik: That’s bold.
[0:27:03 – 0:27:04] Adam: That’s some bold moves.
[0:27:04 – 0:27:04] Adam: I love it.
[0:27:05 – 0:27:07] Erik: End of June to Cross Lake.
[0:27:08 – 0:27:10] Erik: Entry with the girlfriend and her dog.
[0:27:10 – 0:27:13] Erik: First trip we have taken without other people.
[0:27:13 – 0:27:16] Erik: We are excited about that part and no outfitting needed.
[0:27:16 – 0:27:18] Erik: Well, I don’t approve of that as an outfitter.
[0:27:20 – 0:27:20] Erik: Three nights.
[0:27:22 – 0:27:27] Erik: Third trip, end of July, I will be dropping off beers at Clearwater.
[0:27:27 – 0:27:28] Erik: There you go.
[0:27:28 – 0:27:33] Erik: We have a Clearwater permit, a precious, precious Clearwater permit.
[0:27:34 – 0:27:37] Erik: You could probably sell a Clearwater permit on the dark web where you got those edibles.
[0:27:37 – 0:27:40] Adam: On Silk Road, I have a couple listed right now.
[0:27:40 – 0:27:41] Adam: I’m making some trades.
[0:27:42 – 0:27:43] Adam: I’m trying to get my Dogecoin back.
[0:27:43 – 0:27:44] Adam: Yeah.
[0:27:44 – 0:27:45] Adam: It’s not going well.
[0:27:45 – 0:27:46] Erik: Hmm.
[0:27:46 – 0:27:47] Erik: Well, good luck with that.
[0:27:47 – 0:27:48] Adam: Thank you.
[0:27:49 – 0:27:52] Erik: We have a Clearwater permit and are going to Johnson Falls.
[0:27:52 – 0:27:56] Erik: Hopefully the riffraff stays away, although not likely with permit numbers this year.
[0:27:56 – 0:27:57] Erik: Insane.
[0:27:57 – 0:27:59] Erik: Aren’t we all riffraff, really?
[0:27:59 – 0:28:01] Erik: Isn’t that what John Steinbeck taught us?
[0:28:02 – 0:28:08] Erik: I have done this loop twice already, and I’ve gotten lucky enough to have the falls to ourselves both times.
[0:28:08 – 0:28:10] Erik: It’s just the luck of the draw there, for sure.
[0:28:10 – 0:28:17] Erik: But we are bringing friends who want to see it, so I said we could, since I absolutely love that area anyways.
[0:28:19 – 0:28:20] Erik: Six people, five nights.
[0:28:21 – 0:28:25] Erik: Fourth trip, sometime around Labor Day location, TBD, four to five people, three to four nights.
[0:28:26 – 0:28:30] Erik: And then another fifth trip, which is also a TBD situation.
[0:28:30 – 0:28:32] Erik: This is a TBD RCS.
[0:28:36 – 0:28:38] Adam: Anybody out there following?
[0:28:39 – 0:28:39] Erik: I think we’re following.
[0:28:39 – 0:28:41] Erik: There’s going to be bocce ball.
[0:28:42 – 0:28:45] Erik: Or what was the one thing where you put the beer on the stick?
[0:28:46 – 0:28:46] Erik: Beersbee.
[0:28:47 – 0:28:48] Erik: Oh, my God.
[0:28:48 – 0:28:49] Erik: People apparently play.
[0:28:50 – 0:28:52] Adam: There’s at least one person that’s out there playing beersbee.
[0:28:52 – 0:28:54] Adam: Yeah, that’s an RCS for sure.
[0:28:56 – 0:29:01] Erik: Yeah, I mean, thanks for the comment.
[0:29:02 – 0:29:03] Erik: Smooth operator.
[0:29:03 – 0:29:05] Erik: Those sound like some great trips.
[0:29:06 – 0:29:08] Erik: Are you playing the song or not?
[0:29:08 – 0:29:09] Adam: Smooth operator.
[0:29:09 – 0:29:11] Adam: I thought you were going to play it.
[0:29:12 – 0:29:16] Erik: Smooth.
[0:29:16 – 0:29:17] Erik: Yeah, I mean.
[0:29:17 – 0:29:19] Adam: Operator.
[0:29:20 – 0:29:24] Erik: I can’t believe I, I mean, to be honest with you, I am going to go ahead and, can you hear it?
[0:29:28 – 0:29:30] Erik: That’s me patting myself on the back.
[0:29:30 – 0:29:31] Erik: You did it, folks.
[0:29:31 – 0:29:33] Erik: For nailing smooth operator.
[0:29:33 – 0:29:35] Erik: It’s definitely not Three Dog Night.
[0:29:35 – 0:29:37] Erik: Three Dog Night, I mean.
[0:29:37 – 0:29:38] Adam: It might have been.
[0:29:39 – 0:29:41] Adam: Sounds like something that Three Dog Night would throw.
[0:29:41 – 0:29:41] Adam: I don’t know.
[0:29:44 – 0:29:45] Erik: Saxophone.
[0:29:46 – 0:29:47] Erik: Yeah.
[0:29:50 – 0:29:52] Erik: This also sounds like it could be.
[0:29:52 – 0:29:55] Erik: I don’t know what else this could be.
[0:29:58 – 0:30:11] Erik: The background percussion sounds like it’s a keyboard setting on an old Casio where you just press the button and it does the… Mamba.
[0:30:12 – 0:30:13] Adam: Double speed.
[0:30:18 – 0:30:40] Erik: mid-episode smooth operator break sometimes you just need a little what is it sade sade sade sometimes you need a little uh siesta yep this is on sade’s official youtube page and she has comments turned off which is interesting your most popular song i’m not surprised
[0:30:48 – 0:30:53] Erik: she’s making us wait for it yeah no doubt here we go it’s coming it’s coming
[0:31:04 – 0:31:04] Adam: Wow.
[0:31:05 – 0:31:06] Adam: There you go.
[0:31:06 – 0:31:07] Adam: I’m a little embarrassed.
[0:31:07 – 0:31:08] Adam: I thought that was Three Dog Night.
[0:31:08 – 0:31:11] Erik: That was terrible.
[0:31:11 – 0:31:12] Erik: Not even close.
[0:31:13 – 0:31:17] Adam: Yeah, really good soundscape on that.
[0:31:17 – 0:31:17] Erik: Yeah.
[0:31:17 – 0:31:19] Erik: I mean, let’s look up just quickly.
[0:31:19 – 0:31:21] Erik: Let’s just look up Three Dog Night.
[0:31:21 – 0:31:23] Adam: What’s their most popular song?
[0:31:23 – 0:31:24] Adam: One, probably.
[0:31:24 – 0:31:27] Adam: That would be my guess.
[0:31:28 – 0:31:32] Erik: No, I can think of the song right now, but I can’t think of the…
[0:31:33 – 0:31:36] Erik: I think it’s…
[0:31:37 – 0:31:37] Erik: There’s a number of them.
[0:31:37 – 0:31:39] Erik: Joy to the World is a Three Dog Night song?
[0:31:39 – 0:31:40] Adam: I don’t like that song.
[0:31:40 – 0:31:41] Adam: Yeah, that one’s terrible.
[0:31:42 – 0:31:42] Adam: Come on.
[0:31:42 – 0:31:44] Adam: Old Fashioned Love Song?
[0:31:44 – 0:31:44] Adam: No, that one’s all right.
[0:31:45 – 0:31:45] Adam: I like One.
[0:31:46 – 0:31:46] Adam: Come on, play One.
[0:31:47 – 0:31:49] Adam: Yeah, there’s no saxophone in One.
[0:31:49 – 0:31:50] Adam: Maybe there is.
[0:31:50 – 0:31:50] Adam: I don’t…
[0:31:51 – 0:31:51] Adam: There should be.
[0:31:53 – 0:31:56] Adam: Any song could benefit from an extra little bit of saxophone, though.
[0:31:56 – 0:32:00] Erik: Does Three Dog Nights sing one like is the loneliest number?
[0:32:00 – 0:32:02] Erik: Yeah.
[0:32:02 – 0:32:02] Erik: They can’t.
[0:32:03 – 0:32:04] Erik: That’s got to be a cover.
[0:32:04 – 0:32:07] Adam: Well, see, I think I’ve heard a cover of Smooth Operator.
[0:32:09 – 0:32:11] Adam: And that’s probably where I was misinformed.
[0:32:11 – 0:32:14] Adam: And maybe three dog night isn’t even, uh, I should probably just stop talking music.
[0:32:14 – 0:32:20] Adam: Every time we talk about music, I just get, I get myself into like three different, uh, you know, future fact checks.
[0:32:21 – 0:32:27] Adam: So, um, I think we can all agree that, uh, three dog night.
[0:32:27 – 0:32:28] Adam: Yeah.
[0:32:28 – 0:32:29] Adam: I’m not crazy about them.
[0:32:30 – 0:32:34] Adam: So I don’t really mind if I mess that up, but I’m, I feel a little bad for Sade.
[0:32:34 – 0:32:36] Erik: That’s that’s the original version.
[0:32:36 – 0:32:37] Erik: That is not a cover.
[0:32:38 – 0:32:40] Adam: Well, that’s a pretty damn good song.
[0:32:43 – 0:32:47] Adam: You know, if anything comes to this podcast, I’m glad I figured that out now.
[0:32:47 – 0:32:48] Adam: I won’t mess that up again.
[0:32:49 – 0:32:49] Erik: Yeah.
[0:32:49 – 0:32:59] Erik: I mean, it looks like by all accounts that One is the Loneliest Number by Three Dog Night is the original version.
[0:32:59 – 0:33:01] Adam: Well, I feel a little relieved for sure.
[0:33:04 – 0:33:07] Adam: Welcome to Tumblum, a music podcast.
[0:33:07 – 0:33:08] Adam: They don’t know what’s going on right now.
[0:33:08 – 0:33:10] Adam: They’re like, Eric, what’s happening?
[0:33:10 – 0:33:12] Adam: I don’t know.
[0:33:12 – 0:33:14] Adam: We don’t know what’s happening in life.
[0:33:16 – 0:33:17] Erik: What does this song make you think of?
[0:33:18 – 0:33:21] Adam: Well, it’s from that movie with Magnolia.
[0:33:21 – 0:33:21] Adam: Yes.
[0:33:21 – 0:33:22] Adam: It’s from the end of Magnolia.
[0:33:22 – 0:33:24] Adam: That is exactly what it makes me think of.
[0:33:24 – 0:33:27] Adam: I don’t know why I think of it because it’s its own song.
[0:33:28 – 0:33:30] Adam: I think I’m pretty sure I had an 8-track of that.
[0:33:30 – 0:33:31] Adam: I’m not even kidding.
[0:33:31 – 0:33:34] Adam: I did have an 8-track player in high school.
[0:33:34 – 0:33:37] Adam: It’s like a novelty thing, and I believe I had this on 8-track.
[0:33:37 – 0:33:39] Adam: Oh, it was a novelty thing?
[0:33:39 – 0:33:41] Adam: Well, at that point, it was obsolete technology.
[0:33:41 – 0:33:44] Adam: I mean, I had a CD player with a 6-CD changer, Eric.
[0:33:44 – 0:33:44] Adam: Wow.
[0:33:44 – 0:33:46] Adam: I was listening to Radiohead.
[0:33:46 – 0:33:47] Adam: I’m not listening to Three Dog Nights.
[0:33:47 – 0:33:50] Erik: You went from being gross to just straight up bragging.
[0:33:50 – 0:33:51] Adam Pew Pew Pew: Yeah.
[0:33:51 – 0:33:52] Erik: Six disc changer.
[0:33:53 – 0:33:53] Adam: Yeah.
[0:33:53 – 0:33:54] Adam: Well, I had a paper out.
[0:33:56 – 0:33:57] Adam: Mature Gambino.
[0:33:59 – 0:34:02] Erik: I think that’s a first-time comment from Mature Gambino.
[0:34:02 – 0:34:03] Erik: Welcome to the show.
[0:34:04 – 0:34:08] Erik: This is an aged Gambino coming at us.
[0:34:08 – 0:34:18] Erik: My fiancé and I, I love the usage of holding down the E to get the little dangler above the E for the proper writing of fiancé.
[0:34:18 – 0:34:24] Erik: and I are planning on a three-night trip right after we get married in late August for our honeymoon.
[0:34:25 – 0:34:28] Erik: Congrats, my good man.
[0:34:28 – 0:34:31] Erik: It’s a hell of a way to go out on a honeymoon.
[0:34:32 – 0:34:35] Erik: It’ll be our first trip, or sorry, it’ll be our first time at Clearwater.
[0:34:36 – 0:34:36] Erik: Even better.
[0:34:37 – 0:34:37] Erik: Can’t wait.
[0:34:39 – 0:34:44] Erik: Didn’t see anything in the comment on any beers being dropped off, but nevertheless.
[0:34:46 – 0:34:47] Adam: Congratulations, though.
[0:34:47 – 0:34:49] Adam: Yes, congrats.
[0:34:49 – 0:34:50] Erik: I wish it didn’t require this.
[0:34:50 – 0:34:51] Erik: Seriously.
[0:34:52 – 0:34:55] Erik: Currently loading up the registry with fun BWCA gear.
[0:34:55 – 0:34:56] Erik: There you go.
[0:34:56 – 0:34:58] Adam: Get yourself a nice gravity water filter.
[0:34:58 – 0:35:04] Erik: Can you register at REI for a wedding registry?
[0:35:06 – 0:35:06] Adam: Yeah, probably.
[0:35:07 – 0:35:07] Erik: Okay.
[0:35:07 – 0:35:11] Erik: I’m going to read two more because I’ll let you do a couple of bigger ones.
[0:35:11 – 0:35:14] Erik: Or do you want to switch and have me do the longer ones?
[0:35:14 – 0:35:15] Adam: Yeah, I can’t read right now.
[0:35:15 – 0:35:16] Erik: Okay.
[0:35:16 – 0:35:16] Erik: All right.
[0:35:16 – 0:35:18] Erik: Well, you can do the next one here.
[0:35:18 – 0:35:20] Adam: All right.
[0:35:20 – 0:35:22] Adam: Well, just these one short one?
[0:35:22 – 0:35:24] Erik: The two short ones there, if you can handle it.
[0:35:24 – 0:35:24] Erik: I can do two short ones.
[0:35:24 – 0:35:25] Erik: Can you handle it?
[0:35:25 – 0:35:26] Erik: Yeah, I can do that.
[0:35:26 – 0:35:26] Erik: Okay.
[0:35:27 – 0:35:27] Erik: He’s shaking.
[0:35:30 – 0:35:31] Erik: Juicy Gossip.
[0:35:32 – 0:35:36] Adam: Next up on the show, ImaginaryAD8895.
[0:35:37 – 0:35:39] Adam: Six boxes of Franzia.
[0:35:40 – 0:35:42] Adam: One trip planned and booked.
[0:35:42 – 0:35:45] Adam: Headed into Entry Point 58, South Lake.
[0:35:46 – 0:35:46] Adam: Nice.
[0:35:47 – 0:35:47] Adam: Yeah.
[0:35:48 – 0:35:49] Adam: Wanting to stay on Rose.
[0:35:49 – 0:35:50] Adam: Very excited.
[0:35:51 – 0:35:54] Adam: We’ll do another friends-only trip in late September.
[0:35:54 – 0:35:56] Adam: Huzzah, huzzah.
[0:35:56 – 0:35:59] Adam: Nice use of that south permit.
[0:35:59 – 0:36:03] Adam: Are you going the long way or the short way as recommended on Tumble Home?
[0:36:04 – 0:36:06] Adam Pew Pew Pew: About Riders podcast.
[0:36:06 – 0:36:07] Erik: What is that all about?
[0:36:08 – 0:36:09] Erik: That’s weird.
[0:36:09 – 0:36:24] Erik: I’m so glad that we’ve got our brand new canoe trailer at Clearwater because the lack of the, here we go, let’s pull out another thesaurus, the paucity of Clearwater permits has caused us to,
[0:36:27 – 0:36:32] Erik: I love the one nice big word followed up by a butchering of the rest of the sentence of like tiny little like.
[0:36:32 – 0:36:34] Erik: We’re all impressed, though.
[0:36:34 – 0:36:34] Erik: It doesn’t matter.
[0:36:36 – 0:36:38] Erik: Let’s just say there’s going to be a lot of shuttling this year at Clearwater.
[0:36:40 – 0:36:42] Adam: Yeah, I’ll come up and do a couple of shuttles.
[0:36:42 – 0:36:44] Adam: I got to at least work one shift.
[0:36:44 – 0:36:45] Adam: You got to come up one day.
[0:36:45 – 0:36:46] Adam: I’ll cook.
[0:36:46 – 0:36:49] Adam: I’ll flapjack them and then I’ll…
[0:36:51 – 0:36:52] Erik: I don’t like the verb of that.
[0:36:52 – 0:36:55] Adam: I’m going to Franzia these flapjacks.
[0:36:55 – 0:36:56] Adam: You mean flapjacks.
[0:36:57 – 0:37:02] Adam: Anyway, coming up for, we should hold a special breakfast at Clearwater for 2021.
[0:37:02 – 0:37:06] Adam: And the menu is box of wine Franzia with flapjacks.
[0:37:07 – 0:37:09] Adam: And that’s it.
[0:37:09 – 0:37:10] Adam: No coffee allowed.
[0:37:10 – 0:37:11] Adam: I’m just kidding around.
[0:37:11 – 0:37:13] Adam: But he did Franzia those flapjacks.
[0:37:13 – 0:37:20] Erik: I know it’s a ways off, and that’s a fun idea, but it has jogged my memory on conversations we’ve had.
[0:37:22 – 0:37:37] Erik: If I’m still around in 2026 when the lodge turns 100, we want to have, obviously, a big party just in general, but I also want to have a full-blown…
[0:37:39 – 0:37:49] Erik: Block off a weekend and have available to anybody that’s worked at Clearwater in the past 100 years can come and stay.
[0:37:49 – 0:37:50] Erik: Reunion.
[0:37:51 – 0:37:51] Erik: Reunion.
[0:37:51 – 0:37:52] Erik: Yes.
[0:37:52 – 0:37:59] Erik: And it’s just like maybe some random weekend in June in 2026 if you’ve worked at Clearwater.
[0:37:59 – 0:37:59] Adam: Wow.
[0:38:00 – 0:38:00] Adam: And you can come back.
[0:38:01 – 0:38:02] Adam: I’m taking some PTO right now.
[0:38:02 – 0:38:07] Adam: And it’s going to be just a little bit of a reunion slash fun times.
[0:38:07 – 0:38:09] Adam: This is sounding very good.
[0:38:09 – 0:38:09] Adam: Mm-hmm.
[0:38:10 – 0:38:10] Adam: Dancing?
[0:38:11 – 0:38:13] Erik: Dancing, exclamation point.
[0:38:13 – 0:38:14] Adam: Skinny dipping?
[0:38:15 – 0:38:15] Erik: Yeah, maybe.
[0:38:15 – 0:38:16] Erik: For sure.
[0:38:16 – 0:38:19] Erik: Questioning the boundaries of the universe?
[0:38:19 – 0:38:19] Adam: Yes.
[0:38:20 – 0:38:21] Adam: We can check out the new buoy?
[0:38:22 – 0:38:24] Erik: The new buoy should be in place by then.
[0:38:25 – 0:38:27] Adam: We’ll get the old trampoline out of the woods.
[0:38:28 – 0:38:28] Adam: Set that thing up.
[0:38:28 – 0:38:32] Adam: Next up on the show, I Been Tired, friend of the show.
[0:38:33 – 0:38:35] Adam: Six boxes of Franzia.
[0:38:35 – 0:38:37] Adam: I wish I was coming back again this year.
[0:38:37 – 0:38:41] Adam: I hope every few years I can make a trip, but it’s hard to say for sure.
[0:38:42 – 0:38:43] Adam: Isn’t that the truth?
[0:38:43 – 0:38:45] Adam: Ain’t that just the way, Eric?
[0:38:45 – 0:38:46] Adam: So it goes.
[0:38:46 – 0:38:46] Adam: Yes.
[0:38:47 – 0:38:49] Adam: And you’ll be back.
[0:38:50 – 0:38:51] Adam: We will see you again.
[0:38:51 – 0:38:53] Adam: Maybe in 2026.
[0:38:54 – 0:38:54] Adam: For the party.
[0:38:55 – 0:39:01] Adam: Make sure you, if you’re only going to make it every couple years, start planning them out ahead so you can be here in 2026.
[0:39:01 – 0:39:04] Adam: I think there’s a full solar eclipse up here, Eric.
[0:39:05 – 0:39:05] Adam: Of the mind.
[0:39:09 – 0:39:18] Erik: Yeah, I think if you’re excited about the idea of a reunion weekend at Clearwater, you’ve got five years.
[0:39:18 – 0:39:24] Erik: You could come up and work, and then you’ve got that future reunion tour.
[0:39:24 – 0:39:27] Adam: Yeah, you still have time to get your invite stamped.
[0:39:27 – 0:39:29] Adam: This is a great marketing play.
[0:39:29 – 0:39:29] Adam: Oh, yeah.
[0:39:30 – 0:39:31] Adam: I know what I’m doing.
[0:39:32 – 0:39:34] Adam: You can also come apply where I work.
[0:39:35 – 0:39:36] Adam: Just email Eric.
[0:39:36 – 0:39:38] Adam: He’ll tell you where I work, and then you can apply.
[0:39:38 – 0:39:38] Adam: Yes.
[0:39:39 – 0:39:42] Adam: And then you’re also invited if you’ve worked where I work.
[0:39:43 – 0:39:44] Erik: Well, we might have to talk about that off air.
[0:39:44 – 0:39:45] Erik: By proxy.
[0:39:47 – 0:39:54] Erik: We’ve got Hockey Epidemiologist up next with seven Franzias.
[0:39:56 – 0:39:57] Erik: I’ll go ahead and Franzia.
[0:39:57 – 0:39:57] Erik: Yeah?
[0:39:58 – 0:39:59] Erik: You’ve been Franzia’d.
[0:40:00 – 0:40:03] Erik: This year is shaping up to be a farewell tour of sorts.
[0:40:04 – 0:40:04] Erik: Oh.
[0:40:05 – 0:40:16] Erik: Oh no, with a handful of trips planned before I move away to pursue my PhD, which will most likely limit my ability to make it back to the bush for a few years.
[0:40:16 – 0:40:23] Erik: It’s shaping up to be a fun summer and I seem to have at least one trip planned with most of my closest friends.
[0:40:24 – 0:40:25] Erik: Well, that sounds good.
[0:40:27 – 0:40:39] Erik: First up, we have a short, easy trip starting in the number chain with the pseudo-United Nations of foreign doctors I work with who wanted to see the wilderness before they go back to their home countries.
[0:40:40 – 0:40:41] Erik: We’ve got Hungary.
[0:40:41 – 0:40:42] Erik: We’ve got Greece.
[0:40:42 – 0:40:48] Erik: We’ve got Brazil, Japan, Russia, and the U.S. of A. representative.
[0:40:48 – 0:40:49] Erik: Pew, pew, pew.
[0:40:49 – 0:40:50] Adam: Pew, pew, pew, pew, pew.
[0:40:50 – 0:40:50] UNKNOWN: Pew.
[0:40:53 – 0:40:54] Adam: That’s pretty good.
[0:40:54 – 0:40:56] Adam: That’s a real coalition you got.
[0:40:56 – 0:41:06] Erik: Yeah, but they might be opening up recruiting to some people from Australia or Africa and or a penguin so we can have all the continents covered.
[0:41:07 – 0:41:08] Erik: That would be a hell of a trip.
[0:41:08 – 0:41:11] Adam: I think you’re allowed to bring a penguin on a trip if you want.
[0:41:12 – 0:41:13] Erik: All continents trip.
[0:41:13 – 0:41:21] Adam: As long as the penguin does its fair share of chores in camp, it’s, I think, allowed on any trip.
[0:41:21 – 0:41:22] Adam: I would go on a trip with a penguin.
[0:41:23 – 0:41:30] Erik: I would go on a trip with a penguin as well as long as I could use it as a replacement for my fishing pole.
[0:41:30 – 0:41:33] Adam: Like, oh, yeah, you need to fish.
[0:41:34 – 0:41:37] Adam: You don’t need to do chores if you catch all the fish.
[0:41:37 – 0:41:39] Adam: That’s the rule, actually.
[0:41:39 – 0:41:40] Erik: So you get your fill.
[0:41:42 – 0:41:42] Erik: Fill.
[0:41:43 – 0:41:43] Erik: Fill the penguin.
[0:41:43 – 0:41:44] Adam: Yeah.
[0:41:44 – 0:41:50] Adam: And then you bring us a couple of nice eaters and… We calls it even.
[0:41:50 – 0:41:53] Adam: We’ll pack you a hammock.
[0:41:53 – 0:41:54] Adam: We calls it even.
[0:41:54 – 0:41:55] Adam: We calls it even.
[0:41:56 – 0:41:58] Erik: Packing just a hammock for you.
[0:41:58 – 0:41:59] Adam: I like the term the bush.
[0:42:00 – 0:42:02] Adam: I don’t use it enough.
[0:42:03 – 0:42:03] Erik: Yeah.
[0:42:03 – 0:42:06] Adam: We got to drink some of the Glenlivet in the bush.
[0:42:07 – 0:42:07] Erik: Mm-hmm.
[0:42:08 – 0:42:09] Erik: Yeah, I don’t mind it.
[0:42:09 – 0:42:10] Adam: The bush.
[0:42:10 – 0:42:12] Adam: You got to say it pretty quick, I think, for it to be effective.
[0:42:13 – 0:42:14] Adam: But I don’t use that ever.
[0:42:15 – 0:42:15] Adam: But I do like it.
[0:42:17 – 0:42:19] Adam: That’s a real Australian thing to say.
[0:42:19 – 0:42:21] Adam: You got to get an Australian on, for sure.
[0:42:22 – 0:42:24] Adam: Ditch Phil the penguin.
[0:42:24 – 0:42:25] Adam: He eats too many fish.
[0:42:26 – 0:42:31] Erik: I mean, it would take a feat of strength to train Phil to be able to not just eat all of the fish.
[0:42:31 – 0:42:32] Adam: Yeah, it’s the instinct.
[0:42:33 – 0:42:38] Erik: But there’s something about a penguin sleeping in a hammock that does seem very cute.
[0:42:38 – 0:42:39] Adam: That’s too cute to pass up.
[0:42:40 – 0:42:40] Adam: You’re right.
[0:42:42 – 0:42:47] Erik: Trying out a new EP, Little Gabbro, with some of my wilderness friends that I’ve been tripping with for years.
[0:42:47 – 0:42:50] Erik: Uh-oh, here we go.
[0:42:50 – 0:42:54] Erik: Bachelor party slash fishing expedition with some rugby teammates.
[0:42:54 – 0:42:56] Erik: That doesn’t sound like it’s going to get out of hand.
[0:42:59 – 0:43:03] Erik: Heading out to, also heading out of Basswood on that trip and exploring the border route lakes.
[0:43:04 – 0:43:15] Erik: And then a week-long expedition out of Moose guiding a bunch of high schoolers from the same youth group that first got me going to the BWCA as a small way of giving back.
[0:43:15 – 0:43:16] Erik: Well, that’s cool.
[0:43:17 – 0:43:18] Erik: Legitimately.
[0:43:18 – 0:43:20] Erik: Like, we’ll drop the…
[0:43:22 – 0:43:23] Erik: All jokes aside, that’s cool.
[0:43:23 – 0:43:24] Adam: That’s legit.
[0:43:25 – 0:43:26] Erik: Non-BWCA plans.
[0:43:26 – 0:43:27] Erik: Sylvania.
[0:43:28 – 0:43:30] Erik: Wilderness with my two cousins.
[0:43:31 – 0:43:33] Erik: I think we should try to pencil in a Sylvania weekend.
[0:43:33 – 0:43:36] Adam: Sylvania is an enlightened management area for sure.
[0:43:37 – 0:43:41] Erik: None of us have ever been there before, so we’re all excited for that reason.
[0:43:42 – 0:43:45] Erik: I took a day trip last year and it is pretty cool.
[0:43:45 – 0:43:48] Erik: If you like big trees, you’re going to love Sylvania.
[0:43:48 – 0:43:55] Erik: I introduced them to the wilderness five years ago and am amazed at how much they’ve grown up and proud of the people they’ve grown up to be.
[0:43:56 – 0:44:04] Erik: And then miscellaneous smaller slash spontaneous trips on the Rum, St. Croix, and Chisago Lakes water trails.
[0:44:05 – 0:44:06] Erik: Very nice.
[0:44:07 – 0:44:10] Erik: Yeah, you’re doing the work there.
[0:44:10 – 0:44:17] Erik: Introducing what it sounds like is that incredible amount of people to the wilderness and specifically the Bajau waters.
[0:44:17 – 0:44:18] Erik: That’s awesome.
[0:44:18 – 0:44:20] Erik: Let us know how Phil does.
[0:44:20 – 0:44:26] Erik: And if you get that continent, the full seven continent trip put together, that might be one for the record books.
[0:44:27 – 0:44:28] Adam: Got to get some tiny flags for sure.
[0:44:29 – 0:44:29] Adam: Yep.
[0:44:29 – 0:44:31] Adam: Do a photo op.
[0:44:33 – 0:44:34] Adam: Next up on the show…
[0:44:36 – 0:44:38] Adam: Friend of the show, Colin Hawkins.
[0:44:38 – 0:44:41] Adam: Six boxes of Franzia.
[0:44:43 – 0:44:45] Adam: I only have the annual guys trip planned for fall.
[0:44:45 – 0:44:47] Adam: It’s just an out and back.
[0:44:47 – 0:44:48] Adam: More for company than serious miles.
[0:44:49 – 0:44:51] Adam: Omega is our destination.
[0:44:51 – 0:44:52] Erik: Wow.
[0:44:52 – 0:44:53] Erik: Over under on Omega.
[0:44:53 – 0:44:54] Adam: That’s the one.
[0:44:55 – 0:44:58] Adam: This will actually be my first trip to the Vento, and I’m pretty excited.
[0:44:59 – 0:45:00] Erik: I don’t think Omega is in the Vento.
[0:45:00 – 0:45:01] Adam: Yeah, it counts.
[0:45:02 – 0:45:03] Adam: It’s technically in.
[0:45:04 – 0:45:08] Adam: I am still undecided, but hoping to try the Frost River with a friend in May.
[0:45:09 – 0:45:09] Adam: Does this count?
[0:45:10 – 0:45:10] Erik: What?
[0:45:11 – 0:45:12] Adam: Vento, Judge.
[0:45:12 – 0:45:13] Adam: The Frost River?
[0:45:15 – 0:45:16] Adam: Vento Court with Eric.
[0:45:17 – 0:45:23] Erik: No, the Vento unit is the section of the Boundary Waters east of the Gunflint Trail.
[0:45:25 – 0:45:26] Adam: The ruling is in.
[0:45:27 – 0:45:29] Adam: Sorry, but that’s not the Vento.
[0:45:32 – 0:45:33] Adam: Order in the court.
[0:45:33 – 0:45:37] Adam: We don’t know where the rest of the trip is.
[0:45:38 – 0:45:39] Adam: Omega’s the destination, Judge.
[0:45:40 – 0:45:49] Erik: Unless they’re starting on a Vento unit entry point and crossing the Gunflint Trail somehow, which would void your permit.
[0:45:51 – 0:45:51] Erik: Again.
[0:45:52 – 0:45:52] Erik: Overruled.
[0:45:52 – 0:45:53] Erik: Denied.
[0:45:55 – 0:45:56] Adam: Objection, Your Honor.
[0:45:56 – 0:45:56] Adam: Denied.
[0:45:56 – 0:45:57] Adam: All right.
[0:45:58 – 0:45:58] Adam: Moving on.
[0:46:00 – 0:46:04] Adam: You know, maybe, you know, people are just saying Vento instead of Gumblin Trail these days.
[0:46:05 – 0:46:06] Adam: And that’s fine, too.
[0:46:06 – 0:46:10] Erik: There’s no reason to stop spreading the… Vento is Vento.
[0:46:10 – 0:46:12] Erik: The Vento is the name.
[0:46:12 – 0:46:18] Erik: It’s the good man, Bruce Vento, who helped get that section of the bourgeois secured.
[0:46:18 – 0:46:18] Erik: Specifically…
[0:46:19 – 0:46:21] Erik: from snowmobile trails.
[0:46:22 – 0:46:32] Erik: But it is, to be honest, that, you know, to be clear, that is the section east of the Gunvent Trail, and Omega is not in it.
[0:46:32 – 0:46:33] Erik: But regardless…
[0:46:35 – 0:46:42] Adam: Next up after the break on Bento Court, Danielson.
[0:46:42 – 0:46:45] Adam: Judge decides, what is the border out trail?
[0:46:46 – 0:46:47] Adam: Where is this terminus?
[0:46:47 – 0:46:49] Adam: Coming up after this break.
[0:46:49 – 0:46:50] Erik: That’s a good question, actually.
[0:46:50 – 0:46:52] Adam: Yeah, well, we’ll get to that after the break.
[0:46:53 – 0:46:56] Erik: Have you tried Coghlan’s tube tents?
[0:46:57 – 0:46:59] Adam: They’re great for all camping occasions.
[0:46:59 – 0:46:59] Adam: $4.99.
[0:47:00 – 0:47:01] Adam: They don’t have doors.
[0:47:01 – 0:47:02] Adam: Who needs doors?
[0:47:03 – 0:47:09] Adam: They weigh about 12 ounces tube-dense from Coghlan’s.
[0:47:09 – 0:47:09] Adam: All right.
[0:47:09 – 0:47:12] Adam: Welcome back to Tumble Home, a Boundary Waters podcast.
[0:47:13 – 0:47:15] Adam: We’re talking, where are you going this season?
[0:47:16 – 0:47:20] Adam: And next up on the show, a friend of the show, Rad Rapshad.
[0:47:20 – 0:47:21] Adam: Oh, I’m sorry.
[0:47:21 – 0:47:22] Adam: I thought it was Rad Shapp.
[0:47:22 – 0:47:40] Adam: friend of the show this is not i think this is a new rad chap this is rap shad rap sham yeah uh which is uh that’s some bait that’s some good bait right there rad rap shad seven username two seven up votes of boxed wine for rap shad thank you for joining us on tumble home
[0:47:40 – 0:47:48] Adam: Me and a group of three high school buddies from way too long ago are getting together the first week of September for our first trip to the B-Dub.
[0:47:48 – 0:47:51] Adam: We are starting out in Sag and doing the Knife Lake Loop.
[0:47:52 – 0:47:58] Adam: Looking forward to snagging whatever we’ll bite, pizza biters for breakfast, enjoying the sights, sounds, and solitude of the Northwoods.
[0:47:59 – 0:48:02] Adam: We will be dropping off some sponsorship beers.
[0:48:02 – 0:48:04] Adam: We all live in different parts of the country.
[0:48:04 – 0:48:05] Erik: Pew, pew, pew.
[0:48:05 – 0:48:09] Adam: So we figured it would be best to bring up local beers from our hometowns.
[0:48:10 – 0:48:11] Adam: You are correct, good sir.
[0:48:12 – 0:48:18] Erik: Yes, as far flung as possible for the beer sponsorships.
[0:48:18 – 0:48:19] Adam: Penguin beers.
[0:48:19 – 0:48:20] Erik: Penguin beers.
[0:48:21 – 0:48:22] Erik: McMurdo?
[0:48:22 – 0:48:24] Adam: What’s the name of the base down there?
[0:48:24 – 0:48:24] Adam: McMurdo, yeah.
[0:48:24 – 0:48:26] Adam: Is there any breweries down there?
[0:48:26 – 0:48:28] Adam: Somebody’s got to be making wine in McMurdo.
[0:48:28 – 0:48:30] Erik: No, I don’t want any of that toilet hooch.
[0:48:30 – 0:48:31] Adam Pew Pew Pew: That’s not what I’m talking about.
[0:48:33 – 0:48:34] Adam: Any places we should check out.
[0:48:35 – 0:48:40] Adam: Also, we’ll happily take any fishing hotspots or lakes we should check out along our way.
[0:48:42 – 0:48:46] Adam: We all have the podcast, and please update Adobe Flash Player.
[0:48:46 – 0:48:47] Erik: What?
[0:48:47 – 0:48:50] Adam: Is this a bot trying to get us to update Adobe?
[0:48:50 – 0:48:52] Adam: I don’t understand Rapshed.
[0:48:53 – 0:48:55] Adam: No, that sounds awesome.
[0:48:56 – 0:48:58] Adam: Recommendations on fishing hotspots?
[0:48:59 – 0:49:00] Adam: I mean… Get leeches.
[0:49:01 – 0:49:03] Erik: Yes, for sure get leeches.
[0:49:03 – 0:49:03] Erik: September, though?
[0:49:04 – 0:49:04] Erik: I don’t know.
[0:49:04 – 0:49:05] Erik: September gets a little tough.
[0:49:05 – 0:49:09] Adam: Honestly, if you’re going to knife, though, yeah, you’ve got it.
[0:49:09 – 0:49:11] Adam: Going to knife, you’re going to do well.
[0:49:12 – 0:49:17] Erik: Any of the islands on the south arm of knife, set up a slip bobber rig with leeches.
[0:49:17 – 0:49:18] Erik: That’s your walleye option.
[0:49:19 – 0:49:24] Adam: You know, you know, it doesn’t really, you can do almost anything, whatever you’re comfortable with doing on knife, just do that.
[0:49:24 – 0:49:26] Adam: You’re going to have great success.
[0:49:26 – 0:49:29] Erik: Keep an eye on the weather leading up to that trip.
[0:49:29 – 0:49:32] Erik: You might see some Lakers coming back up out of the depths a little bit.
[0:49:33 – 0:49:36] Adam: I don’t know if this is a serious question or not, but for sure, check out Thunder Point.
[0:49:37 – 0:49:37] Erik: Yeah.
[0:49:37 – 0:49:41] Adam: I mean, obviously, Thunder Point is… Get to Thunder Point and chi-hoo off of it.
[0:49:42 – 0:49:42] Adam: Yeah.
[0:49:42 – 0:49:44] Adam: I mean, it’s… Got to get that in there.
[0:49:44 – 0:49:45] Erik: It’s a top vista.
[0:49:45 – 0:49:48] Adam: You know… Eddie Falls.
[0:49:48 – 0:49:49] Erik: Eddie Falls.
[0:49:49 – 0:49:49] Erik: It’s cool.
[0:49:49 – 0:49:50] Adam: Yeah.
[0:49:50 – 0:49:53] Erik: I mean, if you want to get up for some other…
[0:49:54 – 0:49:55] Erik: Check out the Benny Ambrose.
[0:49:55 – 0:49:57] Erik: You got to check out Benny.
[0:49:57 – 0:50:00] Erik: The Benny Ambrose plaque that was made by.
[0:50:00 – 0:50:02] Adam: Actually, do not cross the border to see Benny.
[0:50:02 – 0:50:03] Adam: Do not cross.
[0:50:03 – 0:50:06] Adam: We’re getting another text message from our lawyer.
[0:50:06 – 0:50:06] Adam: Darn it.
[0:50:06 – 0:50:07] Adam: Jesus.
[0:50:07 – 0:50:08] Adam: Never mind.
[0:50:08 – 0:50:13] Adam: You can’t say anything in this day and age without getting a text message from your derelict attorney.
[0:50:14 – 0:50:15] Adam: This is the life of a podcaster.
[0:50:16 – 0:50:19] Adam: Thank you for your comments and questions.
[0:50:19 – 0:50:35] Erik: If you get up to Esther Hansen and or Amoeba and Cherry, again, also good lake trout lakes, but depending on when exactly in September, first week of September, yeah, I’d probably avoid, not necessarily avoid, but I wouldn’t focus too much energy on…
[0:50:37 – 0:51:01] Erik: really hardcore lake trout fishing unless you’re really into it i know some guys that are like i don’t care what time of year it is i’ll drop a huge weight and a dipsy diver and a whatever and i’m gonna pick up some lakers like okay if that’s your that’s your game like i’m not gonna i respect that game i respect that game it’s not for me um a little too deep for me
[0:51:01 – 0:51:02] Adam: A little too scary.
[0:51:02 – 0:51:03] Adam: I don’t know why.
[0:51:03 – 0:51:05] Adam: You never know what you’re going to catch down there.
[0:51:05 – 0:51:06] Erik: Yeah, it’s also a little scary.
[0:51:06 – 0:51:08] Adam: I don’t want to snag an old pirate ship.
[0:51:09 – 0:51:10] Adam: 80-foot snag.
[0:51:10 – 0:51:11] Erik: Cursed.
[0:51:11 – 0:51:12] Erik: I just can’t.
[0:51:12 – 0:51:15] Erik: A gypsy diver’s cursed now.
[0:51:16 – 0:51:18] Erik: Yeah, I don’t know if I have it.
[0:51:18 – 0:51:21] Erik: Send us an email, doublehomecast at gmail.com.
[0:51:22 – 0:51:24] Erik: I’ll mark up a map for you, Rapshad.
[0:51:27 – 0:51:30] Erik: Have beer, we’ll paddle.
[0:51:31 – 0:51:40] Erik: So my wife is a veteran of BWCA and Quetico, but my kids have only done Sylvania and smaller trips.
[0:51:41 – 0:51:47] Erik: This year I am bound and determined to get them all up to the BWCA, but we are having some problems pinning down dates.
[0:51:48 – 0:51:50] Erik: We will probably have to settle for what we can get.
[0:51:51 – 0:51:52] Erik: But I was thinking of Brule.
[0:51:53 – 0:52:00] Erik: Sag or seagull, since those entry points tend to have permits available, and my family is adverse to a lot of portaging.
[0:52:01 – 0:52:05] Erik: I’d rather do smaller lakes, but I’m going to have to take one for the team this year.
[0:52:06 – 0:52:12] Erik: On the brighter side, I just ordered a snow trekker, so I am already marking down dates for a winter trip.
[0:52:12 – 0:52:15] Erik: Going to try and make it back to Crystal.
[0:52:16 – 0:52:16] Erik: Nice.
[0:52:17 – 0:52:22] Erik: That’d be a hell of a winter trip to get back into Crystal, set up for a long weekend, good lake trout.
[0:52:22 – 0:52:23] Adam: Brand new snow trucker.
[0:52:24 – 0:52:25] Adam: Minty.
[0:52:26 – 0:52:33] Erik: Although the aged snow trucker, every time I pull out the tent, it’s like… A lot of memories in this tent.
[0:52:33 – 0:52:34] Erik: A lot of memories.
[0:52:36 – 0:52:58] Erik: um yeah those are all great base camp lakes for the family who’s adverse to portaging but yeah with the size yeah you’re looking at about as big of lakes as they come in the boundary waters i’m trying to think of a a smaller lake that doesn’t involve portaging that would be a decent base camp trip um
[0:52:59 – 0:53:05] Erik: I mean, speaking of crystal, you could get an East Bearskin permit and get into Alder for a base camp.
[0:53:05 – 0:53:06] Erik: Like, that’s much smaller.
[0:53:06 – 0:53:10] Erik: It does require a portage, but just throwing it out there.
[0:53:11 – 0:53:19] Erik: I can’t think of any small lakes that you can just, like, put in on and be immediately, like, on a lake with campsites.
[0:53:20 – 0:53:28] Erik: There’s a couple, like, Quishwee and, I mean, even to a certain extent, like, Homer and Baker.
[0:53:28 – 0:53:29] Adam: Baker, yeah.
[0:53:31 – 0:53:37] Erik: I think you’ve got a lot more options with those bigger legs for better campsites than those smaller ones.
[0:53:38 – 0:53:38] Erik: Right.
[0:53:38 – 0:53:42] Erik: I’d rather go and base camp on a bigger lake than a smaller one just to begin with, so…
[0:53:45 – 0:53:46] Erik: What about what?
[0:53:46 – 0:53:47] Adam: I don’t know.
[0:53:47 – 0:53:48] Adam: I withdraw the question.
[0:53:48 – 0:53:49] Adam: You withdraw that?
[0:53:49 – 0:53:49] Adam: Okay.
[0:53:50 – 0:53:51] Erik: Withdrawn.
[0:53:51 – 0:53:52] Erik: You’re on Lost Paddler here.
[0:53:52 – 0:53:53] Adam: Wasn’t formulated correctly.
[0:53:54 – 0:53:56] Adam: Next up on the show, Lost Paddler.
[0:53:56 – 0:54:00] Adam: Six box of wine this year is a bust for me.
[0:54:00 – 0:54:04] Adam: I ended up tearing my rotator cuff and just had surgery on it.
[0:54:04 – 0:54:09] Adam: This year I had three trips planned, the wife and I, father, son, and my guy’s trip.
[0:54:10 – 0:54:12] Adam: Still praying I can make the guy’s trip.
[0:54:12 – 0:54:17] Adam: If it works out right, we will be renting a three-person, and I won’t have to do a thing but just fish and cook.
[0:54:18 – 0:54:19] Adam: That’s a good deal.
[0:54:19 – 0:54:19] Adam: Yeah.
[0:54:19 – 0:54:26] Adam: Planning on making a couple of North Shore trips anyways this year, so you might end up with some art supplies on your doorstep.
[0:54:27 – 0:54:29] Adam: And that’s a feather in your cap.
[0:54:29 – 0:54:34] Adam: Thank you for the comments and for your contributions to this episode.
[0:54:34 – 0:54:35] Adam: Nice.
[0:54:35 – 0:54:37] Adam: You’re a true hero, Lost Paddler.
[0:54:37 – 0:54:40] Erik: You got to get the night drop-off box for beer.
[0:54:40 – 0:54:46] Adam: Yeah, just a fridge plugged in out on the light post.
[0:54:47 – 0:54:50] Erik: Yeah, and we can record ourselves like, thank you for the beer delivery.
[0:54:51 – 0:54:53] Erik: So whenever the beer fridge gets opened.
[0:54:53 – 0:54:54] Adam: Sounds great.
[0:54:54 – 0:54:55] Adam: Yeah, we’re going to make this happen.
[0:54:55 – 0:55:01] Erik: There’s got to be some way to have it so that it drops in like mail, where once you put it in, you can’t get it back out.
[0:55:01 – 0:55:04] Adam: You should take your picture, too, when you put it in there.
[0:55:06 – 0:55:08] Erik: All of a sudden, just a huge flash.
[0:55:08 – 0:55:10] Erik: Jesus, what was that?
[0:55:10 – 0:55:14] Adam: It goes on the wall of fame in Studio K. You’ve been documented.
[0:55:16 – 0:55:39] Adam: next up on the show hot dish hot dish hot dish six franzias friend of the show welcome back this year i will be trying something new in june i get to bring my wife and kids to the snfb dub for their first time the plan is to car camp hike and day trip off the gunflint trail
[0:55:39 – 0:55:40] Adam: or just wing it.
[0:55:41 – 0:55:46] Adam: Whatever happens, I’m pretty excited to share my love for the park and a near wilderness experience with my family.
[0:55:47 – 0:55:47] Adam: There you go.
[0:55:47 – 0:55:51] Adam: Superior National Forest is just as good as the Boundary Waters in a lot of ways.
[0:55:51 – 0:55:54] Erik: Yeah, especially if it’s a first time trip and you want a car camp.
[0:55:54 – 0:56:01] Adam: There’s so many good things to do that are road access and often it’s a little quieter in certain parts.
[0:56:01 – 0:56:01] Adam: It can be.
[0:56:02 – 0:56:09] Erik: You’ve got access to the internet and you can do your due diligence on some of your options and
[0:56:10 – 0:56:17] Erik: There are a variety of very easily found campgrounds, but there’s some smaller ones out there.
[0:56:18 – 0:56:21] Adam: Yeah, there’s some gems.
[0:56:21 – 0:56:22] Adam: There’s mini gems.
[0:56:22 – 0:56:24] Adam: It’s bejeweled with gem.
[0:56:24 – 0:56:26] Erik: Yeah, they don’t get mentioned very often.
[0:56:27 – 0:56:35] Erik: I don’t know if the Forest Service makes them purposefully difficult to find, especially on that soft underbelly along the grade.
[0:56:35 – 0:56:39] Erik: There’s tons of free Superior National Forest campsites
[0:56:40 – 0:57:04] Erik: and full-blown campgrounds that have like the outhouses and even some running water but um the one place i always point people to that’s like not a full-blown campground and it’s not like that bit i’m not blowing up a secret or anything but like there’s a nice little spot down at twin lakes off of the gunflint trail that has four or five little sites that good walleye fishing too
[0:57:04 – 0:57:05] Erik: On both lakes.
[0:57:05 – 0:57:05] Erik: Yep.
[0:57:05 – 0:57:06] Erik: It’s a dead end.
[0:57:06 – 0:57:07] Erik: It’s super quiet.
[0:57:07 – 0:57:09] Adam: Nothing huge in there, but like really good numbers.
[0:57:09 – 0:57:12] Erik: And there’s some cabins, you know, but I don’t know.
[0:57:12 – 0:57:13] Adam: It’s pretty quiet at night.
[0:57:14 – 0:57:14] Erik: Yeah.
[0:57:15 – 0:57:15] Erik: Yeah.
[0:57:15 – 0:57:19] Erik: Oh, at night it’s, I mean, you might as well just be camped on a Bon Jovi’s lake out there.
[0:57:20 – 0:57:25] Erik: They used to be kind of our spring thing that we would do a couple of times, a couple of years in a row.
[0:57:25 – 0:57:26] Erik: We would go down and spend a night.
[0:57:27 – 0:57:27] Adam: Yeah.
[0:57:28 – 0:57:29] Erik: It’s a good car camping spot.
[0:57:29 – 0:57:30] Erik: It’s a great car camping spot.
[0:57:30 – 0:57:32] Erik: So there’s a number of other options.
[0:57:32 – 0:57:37] Erik: We’re not going to blow them all up, but that would be the one I would recommend for Gunflint Trail.
[0:57:37 – 0:57:42] Erik: But you can find plenty of space on some of those bigger federal campgrounds like the Flower Lake, Bearskin.
[0:57:43 – 0:57:46] Erik: Even Iron Lake Campground is kind of coming around at this point.
[0:57:46 – 0:57:47] Erik: Even though it got destroyed.
[0:57:47 – 0:57:49] Erik: It has risen from the ashes.
[0:57:51 – 0:58:03] Erik: Somebody recommended, based on the Ham Lake Fire conversation, the actor that plays Bubbles from Trailer Tart Boys.
[0:58:03 – 0:58:05] Erik: Trailer Tart Boys, Bubbles?
[0:58:05 – 0:58:07] Adam: Trailer Tart Boys as Posniak.
[0:58:07 – 0:58:07] Adam: Wow.
[0:58:08 – 0:58:09] Adam: I don’t know about that.
[0:58:11 – 0:58:13] Adam: I mean, I’ve never seen him in anything else.
[0:58:13 – 0:58:16] Adam: Does he also do other things?
[0:58:17 – 0:58:17] Adam: I just picture Bubbles.
[0:58:18 – 0:58:19] Adam: I wouldn’t be able to handle it.
[0:58:19 – 0:58:40] Erik: yeah no he’s unfortunately has been completely typecast as that character he can’t do anything else at this point without being like bubbles you just point and point at him and that’s him that’s all he is get a haircut and some all black contacts i bet people would run you know they wouldn’t point yeah uh they wouldn’t recognize you either
[0:58:41 – 0:58:42] Erik: Well, we got to get cracking here.
[0:58:42 – 0:58:45] Erik: It’s insane how many more responses we still have to get to.
[0:58:45 – 0:58:47] Erik: It’s going to be three parts, Eric.
[0:58:47 – 0:58:48] Adam Pew Pew Pew: It’s going to be a three-barter.
[0:58:48 – 0:58:49] Erik: No, we’re doing it.
[0:58:49 – 0:58:51] Erik: Okay, Jimbo.
[0:58:51 – 0:58:59] Erik: Since the U.S.-Canada border is closed, the annual trip with my son and father-in-law to Quetico will be rerouted to the BWCA.
[0:58:59 – 0:59:03] Erik: The plan now is to base camp on either Little Gabbro or Bald Eagle.
[0:59:04 – 0:59:09] Erik: From there, we will fish both of those lakes and make a day trip over to Gull and Pietro.
[0:59:10 – 0:59:16] Erik: I’m interested to see how Pietro is recovering from the Pagami Creek Fire.
[0:59:16 – 0:59:19] Erik: We did fish and camp there back in 2014.
[0:59:19 – 0:59:24] Erik: The lone campsite on Pietro did not have suitable options for hanging my hammock.
[0:59:24 – 0:59:29] Erik: I still slept in my hammock, just while being poked by lots of undergrowth.
[0:59:30 – 0:59:36] Erik: I’m also interested in the idea of a solo trip, if just to get out and enjoy nature one more time.
[0:59:37 – 0:59:41] Erik: I’m not sure I will be able to stand the solitude though.
[0:59:42 – 0:59:48] Erik: While I enjoy being by myself a lot of the time, I’m not sure I could enjoy multiple days of it.
[0:59:49 – 0:59:51] Erik: Yeah, kind of in the same boat there.
[0:59:51 – 1:00:02] Erik: Okay, Jimbo, I haven’t pulled the shoot, the trigger, or the plug or whatever, whatever else you can pull on a solo trip myself either.
[1:00:03 – 1:00:05] Erik: So it might happen this year.
[1:00:05 – 1:00:06] Erik: Almost did it last year.
[1:00:08 – 1:00:13] Erik: If we get a really nice day, instead of doing the timber freer, we could finally get our assault in on Davis.
[1:00:14 – 1:00:15] Erik: I don’t know.
[1:00:15 – 1:00:16] Adam: That’s never going to happen.
[1:00:17 – 1:00:18] Adam: I’ll do another short one here.
[1:00:18 – 1:00:23] Erik: I don’t know if I necessarily want to mess with Brule again.
[1:00:23 – 1:00:26] Adam: Yeah, you got to go through Omega.
[1:00:26 – 1:00:27] Erik: Got to go through the cones.
[1:00:28 – 1:00:28] Adam: Got to.
[1:00:30 – 1:00:32] Erik: This is hopalicious all the way.
[1:00:33 – 1:00:34] Erik: Oh, come on.
[1:00:34 – 1:00:41] Erik: We’ll fronzy a hopalicious for the volunteer work that he does as our executive producer.
[1:00:42 – 1:00:44] Erik: Late June trip to Ensign.
[1:00:45 – 1:00:45] Erik: Go Bears.
[1:00:46 – 1:00:47] Erik: Go Bears.
[1:00:47 – 1:00:48] Erik: With my brother and his son.
[1:00:48 – 1:00:50] Erik: It’s like fishing with your brother’s kids.
[1:00:52 – 1:00:54] Erik: Both first timers.
[1:00:54 – 1:00:58] Erik: We plan to fish hard, eat biters, and maybe day trip to a neighboring lake.
[1:00:58 – 1:01:05] Erik: Thinking of a late trip in the summer, soloing, but nothing is locked in yet.
[1:01:06 – 1:01:08] Erik: No beer will be dropped off.
[1:01:08 – 1:01:12] Erik: Grand Marais is far away, but perhaps some art supplies may be delivered.
[1:01:13 – 1:01:14] Adam: We’re low on pastels.
[1:01:18 – 1:01:19] Adam: And charcoal pens.
[1:01:20 – 1:01:23] Adam: Next up on the show, Bird Doggin’ It, friend of the show.
[1:01:23 – 1:01:25] Adam: What up?
[1:01:25 – 1:01:26] Adam: Hey.
[1:01:26 – 1:01:27] Adam: What up?
[1:01:27 – 1:01:28] Adam: How’s it going, man?
[1:01:29 – 1:01:30] Adam: Bird Doggin’ It.
[1:01:31 – 1:01:33] Adam: Five boxes of Franzia.
[1:01:33 – 1:01:35] Adam: I have five permits for all five boxes.
[1:01:35 – 1:01:36] Adam: That makes sense.
[1:01:37 – 1:01:39] Adam: I have five permits burning a hole in my pocket.
[1:01:39 – 1:01:41] Adam: One, Crooked Lake Fish Fest.
[1:01:41 – 1:01:42] Adam: I like the sound of that.
[1:01:43 – 1:01:45] Adam: Two, solo trip via Homer.
[1:01:46 – 1:01:49] Adam: Three, Little Indian Sioux North with my shield maiden.
[1:01:50 – 1:01:56] Adam: Four, Little Vermilion Crane Lake rendezvous with the Border Boys and Femme Fatale.
[1:01:56 – 1:02:00] Adam: And five, Kawishui Lake to Franzia.
[1:02:01 – 1:02:09] Adam: Although all of these trips will be great in their own unique way, I’m really looking forward to making the push from Crane all the way to Sag or even further east.
[1:02:10 – 1:02:10] Adam: Hey.
[1:02:10 – 1:02:11] Adam: Wow.
[1:02:11 – 1:02:22] Adam: Canada might not let me officially cross the border for the second paddle season in a row, but you can bet I’m still going to spend plenty of time staring at her majestic Canadian shield.
[1:02:23 – 1:02:25] Erik: The soft underbelly of Canada.
[1:02:25 – 1:02:26] Erik: Yeah.
[1:02:26 – 1:02:28] Erik: You bet your bottom dollar.
[1:02:28 – 1:02:30] Adam: Flipping that map and reversing it and bird-dogging it.
[1:02:31 – 1:02:31] Adam: I love it.
[1:02:33 – 1:02:33] Adam: Yeah.
[1:02:34 – 1:02:35] Adam: Kawishuita Franzia.
[1:02:37 – 1:02:39] Adam: That’s a bold call.
[1:02:40 – 1:02:41] Adam: Deserves probably an extra box of Franzia.
[1:02:42 – 1:02:45] Erik: Yeah, I’m assuming that means wine.
[1:02:46 – 1:02:47] Adam: I’m hoping so.
[1:02:47 – 1:02:48] Adam: Yeah, I would think so.
[1:02:48 – 1:02:49] Erik: I love that area.
[1:02:50 – 1:02:52] Adam: Yeah, that’s an underrated spot, Wine Lake.
[1:02:54 – 1:03:02] Erik: Found a moose antler shed at that campsite on the island before we set up for the Laos River plunge.
[1:03:04 – 1:03:08] Adam: We also found a poem that Amoose had written with a hoof.
[1:03:08 – 1:03:09] Adam: With a hoof.
[1:03:09 – 1:03:11] Adam: And a charcoal pen.
[1:03:13 – 1:03:14] Erik: So lonely.
[1:03:14 – 1:03:16] Erik: I’m so lonely.
[1:03:16 – 1:03:18] Erik: No, it was a poem, Eric, not a song.
[1:03:19 – 1:03:20] Erik: Faz Bada.
[1:03:21 – 1:03:36] Erik: 2021 is a new milestone in my efforts to get out into the wilderness more instead of letting opportunities slip into the past, leaving me with only the faint metaphorical echo of my own excuse next year.
[1:03:37 – 1:03:40] Erik: Wow, that’s a hell of a first sentence there, Fosmata.
[1:03:41 – 1:03:47] Erik: During the last few years, I’ve succeeded in getting out on trips with one BWCA trip and a couple other outings per year.
[1:03:47 – 1:03:54] Erik: This year, however, has two BWCA trips and a total of five camping trips planned already.
[1:03:55 – 1:03:59] Erik: In late June, I am doing a Sabil to wine…
[1:04:00 – 1:04:03] Erik: Dent, Masaba, Lollipop, with a couple friends.
[1:04:03 – 1:04:06] Erik: I am extremely excited to visit the area for all the reasons.
[1:04:07 – 1:04:13] Erik: I have read that many consider the first site on Dent to be one of the worst sites in the BWCA.
[1:04:13 – 1:04:14] Erik: I’m excited.
[1:04:14 – 1:04:19] Erik: So I’m strangely excited to find and visit it just for the novelty of it.
[1:04:19 – 1:04:20] Erik: Yes, I send pics.
[1:04:20 – 1:04:21] Erik: Yes.
[1:04:22 – 1:04:29] Erik: Fishing, mug falls, plane crash site, and the general solitude of the area’s low traffic are all of interest as well.
[1:04:31 – 1:04:42] Erik: Also considering poking out to Trail Lake just for the heck of it and because the portage to it sounds like something I’d like to see and experience but maybe we’ll save that for a future Laos River trip.
[1:04:44 – 1:04:54] Erik: August will see a much more laid back trip visiting Wood Lake focused more on relaxation and bringing a less experienced friend as well as some children.
[1:04:55 – 1:05:03] Erik: There isn’t much of a plan, but I always insist on getting a few portages in so that we’re not congesting the area around the entry points.
[1:05:04 – 1:05:13] Erik: Wood Lake seems like an area where people and a loop might appreciate having an exit adjacent campsite to utilize on their first night.
[1:05:14 – 1:05:15] Erik: Sorry, final night.
[1:05:15 – 1:05:27] Erik: I have read word of a super old white cedar, rumored to be the oldest in the state, that is within range on Basswood, and have been given directions for how to find it.
[1:05:28 – 1:05:29] Erik: So maybe we’ll visit that.
[1:05:30 – 1:05:32] Erik: Sounds like a real nice treasure hunt.
[1:05:32 – 1:05:40] Erik: Yes, I’m a sucker for an ancient tree, and I’ve definitely spent time visiting some of the monster cedars just downstream of Johnson Falls.
[1:05:40 – 1:05:44] Erik: Next week on Tree Rankers… Monster Trees!
[1:05:45 – 1:05:51] Adam: Wine is the loneliest number that you ever knew.
[1:05:51 – 1:05:53] Erik: Wine is kind of a lonely feeling.
[1:05:53 – 1:05:54] Adam Pew Pew Pew: Number wine.
[1:05:56 – 1:05:57] Adam: That’s the first version.
[1:05:59 – 1:06:00] Adam: The compromised second draft.
[1:06:01 – 1:06:02] Adam: I didn’t care for it.
[1:06:02 – 1:06:08] Adam: Next up on the show, DirtyDodBod523, friend of the show, with six boxes of wine.
[1:06:09 – 1:06:14] Adam: I’ve got two trips planned, and as a second-year BWCA-er, I couldn’t be more excited.
[1:06:15 – 1:06:24] Adam: The first trip is out of Clearwater in early July for five days to base camp on Clearwater Caribou and introduce my lovely lady and some new friends to the park.
[1:06:25 – 1:06:35] Adam: As a recent transplant to Madison, I am still trying to find my favorite craft store, but be assured that I will be assembling a care package of art supplies for your consumption.
[1:06:36 – 1:06:36] Adam: Thank you very much.
[1:06:37 – 1:06:38] Erik: That’s why we do what we do.
[1:06:42 – 1:06:45] Adam: We got a nice, quiet beach community here, Eric.
[1:06:47 – 1:06:52] Adam: My second trip will be a trip up into Knife in mid-August with the hope of reaching Thunder Point.
[1:06:56 – 1:07:00] Adam: And the South Arm from Entry Point 25 on a four-day trip.
[1:07:00 – 1:07:05] Adam: It will be a reunion trip with some dearly missed friends that I’ve not seen since moving last year.
[1:07:06 – 1:07:15] Adam: The degeneracy meters will be at an all-time high for this one, but I’ll be sure to do it responsibly as one of my buddies is a big headphones guy around camp.
[1:07:17 – 1:07:39] Adam: just a tad sus all told i can’t wait to get back out and enjoy a place that i think and dream about every day huzzah huzzah triple cheers to that i uh pretty excited degeneracy is a state of mind it’s back eric ghost is back update adobe what did you hear that
[1:07:45 – 1:07:48] Adam: There’s somebody at the door, Eric.
[1:07:49 – 1:07:50] Adam: Were you expecting anyone?
[1:07:51 – 1:07:52] Erik: I wasn’t, no.
[1:07:53 – 1:07:55] Erik: I am a pair of choppers coming up.
[1:07:56 – 1:07:58] Erik: Last summer, I was able to go on seven.
[1:07:59 – 1:08:00] Erik: Good Lord.
[1:08:00 – 1:08:01] Adam: Get out of here with this.
[1:08:01 – 1:08:02] Erik: What are we even doing?
[1:08:04 – 1:08:05] Adam: We could be paddling right now.
[1:08:05 – 1:08:06] Adam: What are we doing?
[1:08:08 – 1:08:08] Adam: We’re not…
[1:08:09 – 1:08:15] Erik: We go on one trip a year, and we’re supposedly… We’re enthusiasts.
[1:08:15 – 1:08:16] Erik: Yeah, we are.
[1:08:17 – 1:08:19] Erik: We’re very enthusiastic, that’s for sure.
[1:08:19 – 1:08:20] Erik: Yeah, that’s what counts.
[1:08:20 – 1:08:20] Erik: That’s about it.
[1:08:21 – 1:08:31] Erik: Seven canoe trips to break in my new-to-me 2012 Spirit II Royal X I bought off Craigslist, which was in like-new condition.
[1:08:32 – 1:08:33] Adam: That’s a good deal.
[1:08:34 – 1:08:35] Erik: That is a good deal.
[1:08:35 – 1:08:36] Erik: Who knows what he paid, though?
[1:08:36 – 1:08:38] Adam: Yeah, you got that true code on there, though?
[1:08:38 – 1:08:39] Erik: You got to get that true code.
[1:08:42 – 1:08:42] Adam: Liar.
[1:08:44 – 1:08:47] Adam: Get my checkbook.
[1:08:49 – 1:08:57] Erik: I thought that seven trips would stand to be a lifetime record, but it may just be the new average run rate.
[1:08:58 – 1:09:00] Erik: Where else does a person need to go?
[1:09:00 – 1:09:02] Erik: This is true.
[1:09:02 – 1:09:07] Erik: I’ve camped all over the U.S. and world, and the BWCA is still number one.
[1:09:08 – 1:09:11] Erik: This season, we are set up for about five to seven permitted trips.
[1:09:12 – 1:09:14] Erik: We hit the Gunflint side hard last year.
[1:09:14 – 1:09:18] Erik: So this year, we’re setting our sights more on the Sawbill.
[1:09:18 – 1:09:20] Erik: More on the Sawbill.
[1:09:21 – 1:09:24] Erik: Beginning in late May, Kawishwi, Baker, Brule.
[1:09:25 – 1:09:34] Erik: Little Gabbro, Little Indian Sioux, Homer, and then hopefully some shorter spur-of-the-moment or late-season trips tickling that soft underbelly.
[1:09:35 – 1:09:36] Adam: Oh, yeah.
[1:09:37 – 1:09:50] Erik: Before all that happens, myself and a flotilla of tumble homies are pointing our bows south and checking out the upper Iowa River near the Bluffton slash Decorah area for some river paddling.
[1:09:51 – 1:09:52] Erik: Sounds like an RCS.
[1:09:53 – 1:09:53] Erik: TBD.
[1:09:55 – 1:10:05] Erik: We say it’s for the joy of paddling, but mainly it’s to pick up some beer from Decorah’s Primo Craft Breweries, Toppling Goliath and Pulpit Rock.
[1:10:05 – 1:10:10] Erik: Well, I’ve had my fair share of Toppling Goliaths, but I’ve never heard of Pulpit Rock.
[1:10:11 – 1:10:14] Erik: I mean, you’re going to be kind of close with that…
[1:10:16 – 1:10:43] Erik: late may sawbill trip maybe uh pop in with some pulpit rocks tumblehomecast at gmail.com send me an email i will tell you where adam lives cheers to the beginning of the 2021 sunbathing here i have beers for you it’s not worth it you’re invading my privacy cheers to the beginning of the 2021 open water season to everyone cheers indeed cheers
[1:10:44 – 1:10:52] Erik: Michael Deichel, for me and my group, we will be entering at Mudrow and head up to base camp near Lower Basswood Falls.
[1:10:52 – 1:10:56] Erik: And after a couple of days, we will stage in Jackfish Bay for a quick exit.
[1:10:57 – 1:11:01] Erik: I’m looking forward to the eight mile day trip up to Table Rock.
[1:11:03 – 1:11:04] Erik: Bring a hacky sack.
[1:11:04 – 1:11:06] Adam: Gotta have the Guatemalan kick bag.
[1:11:06 – 1:11:08] Erik: Sorry, Guatemalan kick bag.
[1:11:08 – 1:11:09] Adam: Get it together.
[1:11:12 – 1:11:20] Adam: We mention our derelict attorney, but we don’t often mention the official podcast physician, the good doctor.
[1:11:20 – 1:11:21] Adam: Yeah.
[1:11:23 – 1:11:25] Adam: He’s the one who recommended Guatemalan Kickbag to stay limber.
[1:11:26 – 1:11:26] Adam: Yes.
[1:11:26 – 1:11:35] Adam: That’s one of the things you can do before a big trip is loosen up with a little kicking of the old hack sack.
[1:11:35 – 1:11:36] Erik: Some hand-eye coordination.
[1:11:37 – 1:11:37] Adam: Yeah.
[1:11:37 – 1:11:39] Adam: Get the hips opened up.
[1:11:40 – 1:11:41] Adam: Get the legs going.
[1:11:41 – 1:11:42] Adam: It’s all in the hips.
[1:11:42 – 1:11:43] Adam: That’s right.
[1:11:43 – 1:11:46] Adam: Next up on the show, 2003 Jeep Rubicon.
[1:11:47 – 1:11:48] Adam: What?
[1:11:48 – 1:11:50] Adam: Oddly suspended.
[1:11:50 – 1:11:50] Adam: Oddly…
[1:11:51 – 1:12:11] Adam: oddly specific oh my god username i don’t i don’t get why that’s such a hilarious username only three boxes of wine in the rubicon doesn’t seem right late may trip with my son and maybe a friend of mine and his son up through lis with the intent to fish to camp and fish on links
[1:12:11 – 1:12:13] Adam: That’ll be my first attempt at hammocking.
[1:12:13 – 1:12:18] Erik: This is dangerously getting close to blowing my over-under on Gabe Ionequit.
[1:12:18 – 1:12:19] Erik: You’re going to be safe here.
[1:12:19 – 1:12:21] Adam: Then an early August trip through Homer.
[1:12:21 – 1:12:23] Adam: That’ll be my wife’s first trip.
[1:12:23 – 1:12:27] Adam: I’m hoping a late September trip will materialize, but nothing’s planned yet.
[1:12:27 – 1:12:29] Adam: That’d be a triple for the Rubicon.
[1:12:30 – 1:12:31] Adam: I urge you to go ahead and go for it.
[1:12:33 – 1:12:37] Adam: No mention of the Gabe Ionequit, but you’re going to be in the Little Indian Sioux.
[1:12:37 – 1:12:38] Adam: You’re in the neighborhood.
[1:12:38 – 1:12:39] Adam: You never know.
[1:12:40 – 1:12:56] Erik: next up on the show I just need to see the username 2003 Jeep Rubicon that is so amazingly hilarious and I honestly don’t know if I can tell you why it makes me laugh extra upvote I guess did Eric upvote you already?
[1:12:56 – 1:12:58] Adam: I think he did alright next up on the show
[1:12:59 – 1:13:17] Adam: cabin after four box oh fronzy uh two trips this year the first in may uh the first is a may research trip up the echo trail to study white pine growth on transitional rock outcroppings this trip will highlight staying at some of the primitive campsites along the trail
[1:13:17 – 1:13:47] Adam: wow look at the big brains on brad there we go that’s an enlightened move then a june trip with my family entering through the angle worm portage this will be the best sort of trip visiting some old favorites and then expanding into new territory hashtag go with the flow i added the hashtag but yeah go with the flow what a great plan sounds really nice uh yeah going up the echo it’s a pretty spot i like the echo it’s one of my faves on the that side of the park
[1:13:47 – 1:13:48] Erik: Do your due diligence.
[1:13:48 – 1:13:51] Erik: Again, how many times can I say due diligence?
[1:13:51 – 1:14:04] Erik: Do your research on exactly how to get your bodies and canoes down to the waters of Angleworm without adding extra portage rods to the already two-mile portage into Angleworm.
[1:14:05 – 1:14:08] Erik: Because when you get up to that lake, there are a number of…
[1:14:09 – 1:14:14] Erik: Well, there’s a couple of different ways that you can go that would lead you down a hiking trail.
[1:14:15 – 1:14:18] Erik: But I’m sure there’s a ton of information out there.
[1:14:18 – 1:14:25] Erik: Just go to any number of BWCA forums slash message boards.
[1:14:25 – 1:14:27] Erik: I’m sure there’s little hand-drawn maps out there.
[1:14:27 – 1:14:31] Erik: You might even be able to zoom in close enough onto like a Google map.
[1:14:32 – 1:14:46] Erik: aerial satellite map to see but yeah it’s a little tricky i know when i did it it was in the dark so maybe that’s why it seemed trickier to me than it actually is but there’s not really great signage i can tell you that yeah you’ll be fine are we switching over to this side
[1:14:47 – 1:14:50] Adam: You’re up next with Shane Dog.
[1:14:51 – 1:14:53] Adam: I believe it’s a first-time commenter.
[1:14:54 – 1:14:55] Erik: Long-time listener.
[1:14:55 – 1:14:56] Erik: First-time Redditor.
[1:14:57 – 1:14:58] Adam: Thank you, Shane Dog.
[1:14:58 – 1:14:59] Adam: There you go.
[1:14:59 – 1:15:03] Adam: Eric is going to eat that hat thanks to friends like Shane Dog.
[1:15:03 – 1:15:06] Erik: I might just be cutting off a sweaty bill.
[1:15:07 – 1:15:08] Erik: I’m just going to chew on it.
[1:15:08 – 1:15:13] Erik: I’m just going to have one of those plastic bill pieces that I chew on for the entire trip that we go on.
[1:15:13 – 1:15:18] Adam: I’m going to make you like a beret out of tortilla chips.
[1:15:18 – 1:15:21] Erik: I want to see that.
[1:15:22 – 1:15:27] Erik: Taking my third trip mid-June with a newbie, albeit a very seasoned backpacker.
[1:15:27 – 1:15:30] Erik: Getting a tow to American Point from Seagull.
[1:15:30 – 1:15:33] Erik: Tentatively a one night at West End.
[1:15:33 – 1:15:36] Erik: Tentatively one night at the West End of Autotrack.
[1:15:36 – 1:15:39] Erik: Set up and then loop down through Lake of the Clouds.
[1:15:39 – 1:15:40] Erik: Careful.
[1:15:40 – 1:15:41] Erik: That’s a connoisseur’s route.
[1:15:42 – 1:15:48] Erik: A bit of a topsy-turvy, twisty portage landings on Lake of the Clouds to get out of there.
[1:15:49 – 1:15:53] Erik: That’s the one time we’ve gotten truly turned around.
[1:15:53 – 1:15:55] Adam: We got bamboozled.
[1:15:55 – 1:15:56] Erik: Yeah, check with Seagull Outfitters.
[1:15:56 – 1:16:02] Erik: I’m sure that they’ve got more up-to-date information on why there’s that crazy false portage up there.
[1:16:02 – 1:16:10] Erik: But anyway, it’s much farther south and west on Lake of the Clouds to get out of there than you would think.
[1:16:11 – 1:16:14] Erik: Hope to do one day to Thunder Point, and if calm, beyond.
[1:16:15 – 1:16:17] Erik: Another day exploring the South Arm of Knife.
[1:16:18 – 1:16:19] Erik: Night four on Ogish.
[1:16:19 – 1:16:20] Erik: Spent exploring…
[1:16:21 – 1:16:23] Erik: Night five on Seagull.
[1:16:23 – 1:16:28] Erik: And if I can talk my partner into another night, we’ll spend it on O’Gish and then day trip to Gabby or Cack?
[1:16:29 – 1:16:30] Adam Pew Pew Pew: Question mark?
[1:16:30 – 1:16:33] Erik: Converting to sleeping in the sky.
[1:16:33 – 1:16:34] Erik: Advice is welcome.
[1:16:35 – 1:16:35] Erik: Hashtag wet foot.
[1:16:36 – 1:16:37] Erik: Hashtag slap the bag.
[1:16:37 – 1:16:39] Erik: Hashtag PB Naish.
[1:16:40 – 1:16:40] Erik: Yeah, right.
[1:16:41 – 1:16:43] Erik: If we can, we’ll drop off some show sponsorship.
[1:16:43 – 1:16:47] Erik: If we get into the area early enough, would you be able to swing by Seagull if we don’t have time?
[1:16:48 – 1:16:51] Erik: Just put it in the Clearwater mailbox out on the Gatlin Trail.
[1:16:51 – 1:16:52] Adam: It’s legal.
[1:16:52 – 1:16:53] Adam: It’s totally legal.
[1:16:53 – 1:16:53] Adam: Yeah.
[1:16:53 – 1:16:54] Adam: Totally cool.
[1:16:54 – 1:17:01] Erik: Requesting more lake slash campsite reports on the South Arm of Knife, AutoTrack, and Amoeba, and how-to instruction.
[1:17:01 – 1:17:10] Erik: Could use more advice on meal ideas, more efficient use of time, portaging, and setup and teardown.
[1:17:11 – 1:17:11] Erik: Hmm.
[1:17:11 – 1:17:16] Erik: that’s an interesting, uh, idea to maybe consider talking about in the future.
[1:17:16 – 1:17:20] Erik: Um, I think it’s, that one’s super personal though.
[1:17:20 – 1:17:27] Erik: Like how do they like get converted into, you know, tearing down your camp and setting one up faster.
[1:17:27 – 1:17:30] Erik: I think it just boils down to getting as comfortable as possible with the gear that you bring out.
[1:17:31 – 1:17:40] Erik: You know, again, with what you’re comfortable with, it’s sometimes easier to, to use that than to try to upgrade to something new and learn on the fly.
[1:17:41 – 1:17:41] Erik: Um,
[1:17:43 – 1:17:50] Erik: It’s going to be really tough to ever do a full campsite slash lake review on South Arm of Knife, Autotrack, Amoeba, Amoeber.
[1:17:50 – 1:17:50] Erik: Amoeber?
[1:17:50 – 1:17:52] Erik: There’s so many campsites.
[1:17:52 – 1:17:57] Adam: This is one where the paddle planner is more valuable than anything we’ll ever be able to put together.
[1:17:57 – 1:17:58] Adam: It’s too far in.
[1:17:58 – 1:17:59] Erik: I mean, dream scenario.
[1:17:59 – 1:18:00] Erik: Yeah, sure.
[1:18:00 – 1:18:05] Erik: We quit our full-time jobs and spend seasons reviewing campsites.
[1:18:05 – 1:18:05] Adam: We’re doing that in 2026.
[1:18:05 – 1:18:11] Adam: We’re quitting our jobs, just doing our reunion tour, culminating with a rave at Clearwater.
[1:18:13 – 1:18:40] Erik: staff a previous staff member rave yeah it’ll be fun yeah wholesome rave uh shamedog tumblehomecast at gmail.com I’ll I can send you some more specific information if you just want to send me an email um I can point you in the direction of some nicer campsites that I know but it’s yeah don’t hold your breath on a uh um campsite review episode on any of those bigger lakes um it’s just there’s so many of them
[1:18:41 – 1:18:48] Erik: The only reason we ever did SAG was because we had a motorboat at our disposal and we did all the motorboat accessible campsites.
[1:18:48 – 1:18:48] Erik: And no fear.
[1:18:49 – 1:18:50] Erik: Also no fear.
[1:18:54 – 1:18:55] Adam: I can’t understand you.
[1:18:55 – 1:18:59] Adam: So you get boxes of wine on your Reddit and there’s no scroll bar?
[1:18:59 – 1:19:00] Erik: How are we doing here, Eric?
[1:19:01 – 1:19:02] Adam: Where’s the scroll bar?
[1:19:03 – 1:19:03] Erik: What do you mean?
[1:19:04 – 1:19:05] Adam: How do you know how far you are?
[1:19:05 – 1:19:06] Adam: It’s right there.
[1:19:07 – 1:19:08] Adam: Oh, there it is.
[1:19:08 – 1:19:11] Adam: Oh, that’s a nice subtle scroll bar.
[1:19:12 – 1:19:15] Adam: I’m determining whether or not I want to take a break or not.
[1:19:15 – 1:19:18] Erik: I think we can hammer him out.
[1:19:18 – 1:19:19] Erik: There’s only like four left.
[1:19:19 – 1:19:19] Erik: We’re pretty close.
[1:19:19 – 1:19:21] Adam: We’re pretty close to the end, yeah.
[1:19:21 – 1:19:23] Erik: Part three will just be us talking about our trip.
[1:19:24 – 1:19:26] Adam: Yeah, well, we’re not telling anybody about our trip.
[1:19:26 – 1:19:27] Adam: You know where we’re going.
[1:19:27 – 1:19:28] Adam: We already told them.
[1:19:28 – 1:19:28] Adam: We already told.
[1:19:29 – 1:19:31] Adam: Next up on the show, Eagle98MN.
[1:19:31 – 1:19:33] Adam: Wow, what up?
[1:19:34 – 1:19:35] Adam: What’s with this?
[1:19:36 – 1:19:39] Adam: Next to the friend of the show, Eagle98MN.
[1:19:41 – 1:19:41] Adam: How’s she going, babe?
[1:19:44 – 1:19:48] Adam: Two trips this year, an August trip with my wife and two oldest kids.
[1:19:48 – 1:19:51] Adam: It will be my five-year-old’s first trip, and he is very excited.
[1:19:52 – 1:19:55] Adam: He mentions the Boundary Waters at least once a week and how much fun it will be.
[1:19:56 – 1:20:01] Adam: That trip will be in at South Kawishui and likely setting up a base camp in the vicinity of Clear Lake.
[1:20:02 – 1:20:08] Adam: I’m looking forward to enjoying my tumble-turny final picks, Loon Calls and Milky Way, under a new moon sky that weekend.
[1:20:08 – 1:20:09] Adam: Hey, good planning.
[1:20:09 – 1:20:10] Erik: Yes.
[1:20:10 – 1:20:14] Erik: I never really even consider that when I plan a trip, but I should.
[1:20:15 – 1:20:29] Erik: I don’t really have the luxury to, but if I get the opportunity, I should pay attention to that more because I’ll take any bonjour water trip, but I much more prefer a dark night over a full moon, especially in June.
[1:20:29 – 1:20:33] Adam: I considered the moon phase more when I was into musky fishing back in the day.
[1:20:33 – 1:20:34] Erik: You’d go out in the full moon.
[1:20:35 – 1:20:35] Adam: Yeah.
[1:20:35 – 1:20:43] Adam: Me and Suik were out, you know, under the full moon, but you can also, uh, there’s also a good bite around the new moon, but it’s just a lot harder to fish.
[1:20:44 – 1:20:44] Erik: Yeah.
[1:20:44 – 1:20:45] Erik: Well, that makes sense.
[1:20:45 – 1:20:45] Erik: Yeah.
[1:20:46 – 1:20:52] Adam: Back in those days, it was like coal miner hats with candles and a mirror on your head.
[1:20:52 – 1:20:53] Adam: Well, yeah.
[1:20:53 – 1:20:53] Adam: Crazy.
[1:20:53 – 1:20:57] Erik: Yeah, that was back in the day when we used to just do the podcast in person.
[1:20:57 – 1:20:57] Adam: Yeah.
[1:20:58 – 1:21:01] Adam: We’d just show up at the town hall and yell at each other.
[1:21:01 – 1:21:02] Adam: Yeah, on the steps.
[1:21:02 – 1:21:02] Adam: Loudly.
[1:21:03 – 1:21:03] Adam: On the steps of town hall.
[1:21:04 – 1:21:04] Adam: Those are the ways.
[1:21:06 – 1:21:10] Adam: Eagle98MN, we are continuing your comment now.
[1:21:11 – 1:21:36] Adam: just be forewarned end of end of the end of that nonsense all right here we go are you starting yeah okay we’re gonna do starting second half now now then in september i’ll take a four-day trip with my buddy out of brandt we booked it right before the express episode and excited here it is going to suck it’s gonna be awesome especially in september it’ll be way drier yeah
[1:21:37 – 1:21:39] Adam: Honestly, the fact that it is challenging is appealing.
[1:21:39 – 1:21:45] Adam: We’re going to do a loop west of Keck and then come back over to Little Sag by way of the small lakes north of Boulder.
[1:21:46 – 1:21:46] Adam: Mm-hmm.
[1:21:47 – 1:21:47] Erik: Yes.
[1:21:47 – 1:21:48] Erik: There it is.
[1:21:48 – 1:21:54] Adam: Along the way, we have secured a night in the Mugwump PMA with plans to set up on Raven Lake.
[1:21:54 – 1:21:55] Adam: Yes.
[1:21:55 – 1:21:56] Adam: Ooh, Raven.
[1:21:57 – 1:21:58] Adam: PMA whistles.
[1:21:58 – 1:22:01] Adam: Then we will finish by exiting at Tuscarora.
[1:22:01 – 1:22:09] Adam: The goal of the trip is to put some miles and spend our nights on smaller lakes that we would typically just paddle through on our way to a larger destination lake.
[1:22:10 – 1:22:21] Adam: After a few years of camping on big waters like South Arm of Knife and Pine, last year I set up on Crystal for a night and was reminded of how much I enjoy camping on a small lake where the shorelines are close.
[1:22:21 – 1:22:24] Adam: It all feels a bit more wild and intimate.
[1:22:24 – 1:22:26] Adam: I’m seeking that feeling again this year.
[1:22:27 – 1:22:28] Adam: I like that a lot.
[1:22:28 – 1:22:42] Erik: I do too, and yeah, we aren’t really going to have the time to talk specifically too much about our trip, but there are, man, we haven’t even really sat down and looked at a map together too much.
[1:22:42 – 1:22:43] Erik: I’ve been looking at it.
[1:22:43 – 1:22:46] Erik: We’ve got Thomas as a bit of a focal point.
[1:22:46 – 1:22:46] Adam: That’s pretty much it.
[1:22:47 – 1:22:49] Adam: I know we’re going to Thomas, and then we’re coming back through Ensign.
[1:22:49 – 1:22:51] Adam: That’s all I know.
[1:22:52 – 1:22:55] Adam: The rest is whichever way the wind blows.
[1:22:55 – 1:22:59] Erik: Yeah, I’d love to camp on ââ¬â I’d love it if we had the time to camp on Wissini.
[1:23:00 – 1:23:01] Adam: Wow, I’ll have to look that one up tonight.
[1:23:01 – 1:23:03] Erik: Some sweet campsites on that lake.
[1:23:03 – 1:23:06] Erik: But, yeah, I love the idea of just, like, there’s so many different ââ¬â
[1:23:08 – 1:23:37] Erik: ways you can like take a Boundary Waters trip and just focusing on like camping on smaller lakes or lakes that just have one campsite on them like that’s uh I usually go for bigger water I like the long view but there is something to be said for the close in shoreline I like that a lot yeah that’s an interesting way to change it up and uh yeah good luck Eagle 98 we’ve got Prash Prash I meant Crash Bandicoot
[1:23:39 – 1:23:40] Adam: Spelled the usual way.
[1:23:41 – 1:23:42] Erik: Yeah, like you can picture how that’s spelled.
[1:23:43 – 1:23:49] Erik: Heading up before Memorial Day weekend to work as an outfitter on the Gunflint Trail until ice in?
[1:23:51 – 1:23:52] Erik: Ice in.
[1:23:52 – 1:23:54] Erik: No, ice in.
[1:23:54 – 1:24:02] Erik: Who knows how many trips I’ll get in, but all the time in the world before starting U.S. Air Force flight school in the winter.
[1:24:02 – 1:24:03] Erik: Nice.
[1:24:03 – 1:24:07] Erik: Hopefully we will see some friends of the show and not know it.
[1:24:08 – 1:24:10] Erik: Hell, maybe we could have some beers together.
[1:24:10 – 1:24:12] Erik: There’s tumble homies everywhere.
[1:24:12 – 1:24:15] Erik: You’re going to be working on the Gunflint Trail as an outfitter?
[1:24:15 – 1:24:16] Erik: You never know where you’re going to end up.
[1:24:16 – 1:24:17] Adam: As an outfitter?
[1:24:17 – 1:24:18] Erik: As an outfitter.
[1:24:18 – 1:24:20] Erik: Stop in, Crash Bandicoot.
[1:24:21 – 1:24:25] Erik: I’m pretty sure you’re not working for me because I would know if you were.
[1:24:26 – 1:24:30] Erik: I don’t have any potential Air Force pilots coming on that I’m aware of.
[1:24:30 – 1:24:56] Erik: yeah uh you never know though you never know you never know i’ll do another one here we got david putty gotta support the team my crew from high school had a baker entry point booked for late june but our recent ad had the clout to a shift our date up one day is that a good thing or a bad thing
[1:24:56 – 1:24:57] Erik: I don’t know.
[1:24:58 – 1:25:04] Erik: It’s pretty shocking how much is now booked up, but that skipper portage entry point is still available and is looking mighty tempting.
[1:25:05 – 1:25:06] Adam: Yeah, take the skipper.
[1:25:06 – 1:25:07] Erik: Skipper is a garden walk.
[1:25:08 – 1:25:10] Erik: Also eyeing up magnetic also.
[1:25:13 – 1:25:17] Erik: Gravely underappreciated as an entry point.
[1:25:17 – 1:25:20] Erik: That magnetic lake entry permit is almost always available.
[1:25:20 – 1:25:21] Erik: I’m still seeing those.
[1:25:22 – 1:25:25] Erik: And the Granite River is a beautiful run.
[1:25:26 – 1:25:28] Erik: I mean, and then you’re up on the sag.
[1:25:28 – 1:25:34] Erik: If you’ve got a bunch of time, then the sky’s the limit once you get up there.
[1:25:35 – 1:25:44] Erik: Anyway, also eyeing up Magnetic Lake entry point to do the Granite River based on the recommendation in the river episode, but that would probably require coordination with an outfitter.
[1:25:44 – 1:25:48] Erik: Bags will be slapped one way or another.
[1:25:48 – 1:25:49] Erik: Slap on, David.
[1:25:49 – 1:25:50] Erik: Slap on.
[1:25:51 – 1:25:51] Erik: Slap on?
[1:25:52 – 1:25:53] Erik: You will never slap alone.
[1:25:54 – 1:25:56] Adam: You will never slap alone.
[1:25:59 – 1:26:01] Adam: Next up on the show, Brother Bear.
[1:26:02 – 1:26:03] Adam: Hello.
[1:26:03 – 1:26:04] Adam: Welcome.
[1:26:04 – 1:26:06] Adam: Three boxes of wine for Brother Bear.
[1:26:06 – 1:26:12] Adam: Since moving from the Midwest, my wife and I haven’t been able to get to the BWCA as much as we would like.
[1:26:12 – 1:26:26] Adam: This summer, we are making the most of our short trip down states from Alaska with a four-night trip through Entry Point 16 with two first-timers and then a drive over to Kawishui Lodge for a seven-night cabin stay with my wife’s side of the family.
[1:26:27 – 1:26:32] Adam: We don’t have a set route yet for our four-night trip, and any day-tripping advice from Koishui is appreciated.
[1:26:33 – 1:26:40] Adam: Sadly, no beer will be delivered up the Gunblint this summer, but I will raise my can outside the park, of course, and cheers.
[1:26:40 – 1:26:42] Adam: Arrivederci to the east.
[1:26:42 – 1:26:43] Erik: Cheers.
[1:26:43 – 1:26:43] Erik: Merci.
[1:26:44 – 1:26:44] Erik: My good man.
[1:26:45 – 1:26:46] Erik: Sounds like a great combo.
[1:26:47 – 1:26:48] Erik: Wilderness, week in a cabin.
[1:26:50 – 1:26:50] Adam: That’s pretty sweet.
[1:26:51 – 1:26:51] Adam: Yeah.
[1:26:51 – 1:26:52] Adam: That’s pretty sweet.
[1:26:52 – 1:26:52] Adam: Yeah.
[1:26:53 – 1:26:53] Adam: You got four nights.
[1:26:54 – 1:26:55] Adam: You can do a lot now at Kawishui, that’s for sure.
[1:26:56 – 1:26:59] Adam: Coming up after the break, we’re going to dissect Kawishui.
[1:27:00 – 1:27:02] Adam: I got to go take a break, Eric.
[1:27:02 – 1:27:02] Erik: We’re breaking.
[1:27:03 – 1:27:07] Adam: Next up on the show, it’s a message from our friends at Coglins.
[1:27:08 – 1:27:09] Adam: No, it’s not.
[1:27:09 – 1:27:11] Adam: You’ve got to get your fire tubes.
[1:27:11 – 1:27:12] Adam: You’ve got to get your paste.
[1:27:12 – 1:27:13] Adam: You’ve got to get your mud.
[1:27:13 – 1:27:15] Adam: And then put them together.
[1:27:15 – 1:27:17] Adam: Don’t put them together, but you’ve got both of them just in case.
[1:27:18 – 1:27:21] Adam: That’s your message of the day from your good friends at Coglins.
[1:27:22 – 1:27:30] Erik: It’s like that one video where the guy tapes the peanut butter toast to the back of a cat and produces infinite energy.
[1:27:31 – 1:27:33] Erik: Yeah, that’s pretty smart.
[1:27:33 – 1:27:35] Erik: Yeah, you put that paste and mud together.
[1:27:35 – 1:27:37] Erik: You never know what’s going to happen.
[1:27:38 – 1:27:38] Adam: Fusion.
[1:27:42 – 1:27:46] Adam: Thank you for the mud and the paste and your support, Coglins.
[1:27:46 – 1:27:48] Adam: We love everything you’re doing.
[1:27:49 – 1:27:52] Adam: We have an update before we continue the show.
[1:27:52 – 1:28:02] Adam: While phrenology is the study of the shape of the cranium and is a bunch of bunk, we did look it up, and it’s phenology, no R.
[1:28:03 – 1:28:27] Adam: one letter off the study of cyclical and seasonal natural phenomenon that’s that’s right uh ron shara knows the difference or does he probably not at this point yeah we barely did so we wanted that we got the record straight on that one so now we know uh but uh we’re uh we’re on the home stretch as you will we’re uh nearing dessert
[1:28:29 – 1:28:30] Adam Pew Pew Pew: What was dessert again?
[1:28:30 – 1:28:32] Adam: Oh, the Janet Jackson.
[1:28:32 – 1:28:40] Adam: No, it’s the Janet Jackson chiptunes we’re going to for sure get from our good friend and chiptunes expert.
[1:28:41 – 1:28:42] Adam: Chiptunes intern.
[1:28:43 – 1:28:46] Adam: No, executive chiptunes producer.
[1:28:47 – 1:28:50] Erik: Matt, thank you in advance.
[1:28:51 – 1:28:53] Erik: This next comment is from a Ruthenby.
[1:28:53 – 1:28:55] Adam: Friend of the show.
[1:28:55 – 1:28:56] Erik: Friend of the show.
[1:28:56 – 1:29:01] Erik: Late June trip to Liz slash Swamp with my wife and kids.
[1:29:01 – 1:29:04] Erik: Plan to complete a loop through Gaskin and Winchell on a five-day trip.
[1:29:05 – 1:29:10] Erik: Following it up with a three-night stay at a Clearwater Cabin.
[1:29:11 – 1:29:13] Erik: Which one?
[1:29:14 – 1:29:14] Erik: They’re all nice.
[1:29:15 – 1:29:16] Erik: They’re all nice in their own way.
[1:29:16 – 1:29:17] Erik: And day trips in the area.
[1:29:18 – 1:29:22] Erik: Our only expectation is to find a campsite and relax away from our cell phones.
[1:29:23 – 1:29:25] Erik: The kids are excited to see Axel again.
[1:29:25 – 1:29:26] Erik: Oh, Axel.
[1:29:26 – 1:29:27] Erik: That little scamp.
[1:29:27 – 1:29:28] Erik: I miss him.
[1:29:28 – 1:29:28] Adam: Where is that scamp?
[1:29:29 – 1:29:30] Erik: He’s up at Clearwater right now.
[1:29:31 – 1:29:31] Adam: He’s not running around.
[1:29:31 – 1:29:33] Adam: He’s not frolicking around here, that’s for sure.
[1:29:34 – 1:29:37] Erik: I should send a message to the geologist’s wife right now.
[1:29:37 – 1:29:39] Erik: Shout out to Axel.
[1:29:39 – 1:29:40] Erik: Can I get an Axel vid?
[1:29:40 – 1:29:42] Adam: Yeah, you got to get those pet vids when you’re away from home.
[1:29:43 – 1:29:44] Erik: I haven’t seen him in a day.
[1:29:44 – 1:29:45] Adam: How’s that little buddy?
[1:29:46 – 1:29:48] Erik: And relax on the clear water porch with fresh pie.
[1:29:49 – 1:29:54] Erik: Beer requests from the Carolinas will be taken prior to our departure.
[1:29:57 – 1:29:59] Erik: Anything cold and wet, preferably an IPA.
[1:30:00 – 1:30:01] Erik: That’s about all the requests that I can make.
[1:30:04 – 1:30:06] Adam: Anything you can think of down there?
[1:30:06 – 1:30:08] Adam: I need something with a… Carolinas?
[1:30:08 – 1:30:09] Adam: Myrtle Beach.
[1:30:09 – 1:30:11] Erik: What’s the… Any Kitty Hawk IPAs?
[1:30:12 – 1:30:13] Erik: Kitty Hawk?
[1:30:13 – 1:30:15] Erik: I’m sure there’s got to be a Kitty Hawk beer.
[1:30:16 – 1:30:19] Adam: Any Appalachian Trail-themed beers?
[1:30:19 – 1:30:20] Adam: I don’t know.
[1:30:20 – 1:30:20] Adam: There’s got to be.
[1:30:21 – 1:30:23] Adam: I love the Appalachian Trail.
[1:30:23 – 1:30:24] Erik: What’s the dogfish head?
[1:30:24 – 1:30:26] Erik: That’s Maryland, though, isn’t it?
[1:30:26 – 1:30:27] Erik: Rehoboth Beach?
[1:30:27 – 1:30:28] Adam: Delaware, maybe.
[1:30:29 – 1:30:30] Erik: Rehoboth?
[1:30:30 – 1:30:31] Adam: Rehoboth.
[1:30:31 – 1:30:32] Erik: Remember that trip we took?
[1:30:32 – 1:30:34] Adam: Yeah, I remember Rehoboth Beach.
[1:30:34 – 1:30:37] Erik: We stayed in a hotel because the campground that we thought was…
[1:30:37 – 1:30:39] Adam: It was under a bridge that was under construction.
[1:30:39 – 1:30:41] Adam: And had like the lights.
[1:30:41 – 1:30:44] Adam: Several cranes set up in the campground.
[1:30:45 – 1:30:45] Adam: No good.
[1:30:45 – 1:30:49] Adam: Here’s some pro tips from a couple of… We’re not experts.
[1:30:49 – 1:30:50] Adam: We are enthusiasts.
[1:30:50 – 1:30:53] Adam: If you’re ever pulling into a campground and there’s multiple gigantic cranes…
[1:30:54 – 1:30:58] Adam: and floodlights set up, move on down the dusty trail, as they say.
[1:30:59 – 1:31:10] Erik: Not just floodlights, like the lights that they lit up like ground zero at on 9-11 to clean it up, like just massive beaming white lights down onto a campground that there was nobody else camped at.
[1:31:10 – 1:31:13] Adam: I’m pretty sure those lights will change your phrenology.
[1:31:14 – 1:31:14] Adam: Phrenology.
[1:31:15 – 1:31:15] Adam: Yes.
[1:31:15 – 1:31:15] Adam: And phenology.
[1:31:15 – 1:31:17] Erik: Absolutely too powerful.
[1:31:17 – 1:31:18] Erik: Turtles are late this year.
[1:31:19 – 1:31:19] Erik: Why?
[1:31:20 – 1:31:20] Erik: I wonder why.
[1:31:20 – 1:31:24] Erik: The whole area is bathed in a ultra white UV light.
[1:31:25 – 1:31:26] Adam: Yeah, I don’t know.
[1:31:26 – 1:31:28] Adam: It’s definitely something for Myrtle Beach then.
[1:31:28 – 1:31:30] Adam: They don’t have any cranes going on down there.
[1:31:30 – 1:31:32] Adam: It’s a nice, peaceful beach community.
[1:31:33 – 1:31:35] Adam: Got a nice, quiet beach community here.
[1:31:35 – 1:31:37] Adam: You’re kind of mucking it up.
[1:31:37 – 1:31:38] Adam: These crazy requests.
[1:31:38 – 1:31:41] Erik: We just puked a bunch of ideas out at you, Ruth and B.
[1:31:41 – 1:31:42] Adam: Take that as you will.
[1:31:42 – 1:31:44] Adam: We know you’ll make the right call.
[1:31:44 – 1:31:44] Adam: Yeah.
[1:31:45 – 1:31:47] Adam: As a friend of the show, you always will.
[1:31:50 – 1:31:56] Adam: Next up on the show, paddling partner, the doozy, Seven Trips.
[1:31:57 – 1:31:59] Erik: Wow, that’s tied for the record, I think.
[1:32:00 – 1:32:02] Adam: I’m definitely jealous.
[1:32:04 – 1:32:06] Adam: I have seven trips more or less in the works.
[1:32:07 – 1:32:09] Adam: It is going to be a busy summer for me.
[1:32:10 – 1:32:14] Adam: One, I have one or two solo trips planned for the end of May and beginning of June.
[1:32:15 – 1:32:21] Adam: It was going to be one really long solo trip, but I ended up having a family function in the middle that I need to be home for.
[1:32:21 – 1:32:26] Adam: So for now I am planning on making it two shorter trips instead of one long trip.
[1:32:27 – 1:32:28] Adam: No entry point yet.
[1:32:29 – 1:32:32] Adam: I am flexible, so I might just see what is available.
[1:32:34 – 1:32:36] Adam: Have you heard of the Magnetic Lake entry point?
[1:32:37 – 1:32:38] Adam: Solo Granite River, if you will.
[1:32:40 – 1:32:41] Adam: That would be my advice.
[1:32:41 – 1:32:42] Adam: I bet that’s available.
[1:32:42 – 1:32:43] Erik: Damn that family function.
[1:32:46 – 1:32:46] Erik: The U.S.
[1:32:47 – 1:32:47] Erik: Girls song?
[1:32:48 – 1:32:49] Erik: Damn that fam.
[1:32:49 – 1:32:51] Adam: Geez, I haven’t listened to U.S.
[1:32:51 – 1:32:52] Adam: Girls in forever.
[1:32:52 – 1:32:55] Erik: Yeah, should bust out that OG U.S.
[1:32:55 – 1:32:55] Erik: Girls album.
[1:32:55 – 1:32:58] Adam: That’s what I’m going to listen to on the drive home after this for sure.
[1:32:59 – 1:32:59] Adam: Write that down.
[1:33:00 – 1:33:05] Adam: Two, mid-June, are we going to just take a break in the middle of the show and listen to some U.S. girls now?
[1:33:05 – 1:33:06] Adam: Yeah.
[1:33:06 – 1:33:08] Adam: And just break down a couple songs.
[1:33:08 – 1:33:09] Erik: We can pull it up here in a second.
[1:33:09 – 1:33:10] Adam: Okay, after this.
[1:33:11 – 1:33:15] Adam: Two, mid-June, taking my kids to Homer Lake for a short trip.
[1:33:16 – 1:33:17] Erik: That’s a good short trip lake.
[1:33:18 – 1:33:18] Adam: Vern?
[1:33:19 – 1:33:20] Erik: Vern.
[1:33:21 – 1:33:22] Erik: Run the river.
[1:33:23 – 1:33:23] Erik: Get down to pipe.
[1:33:24 – 1:33:24] Adam: Three.
[1:33:24 – 1:33:25] Adam: Tonight’s pipe night.
[1:33:25 – 1:33:26] Adam: Oh, yeah.
[1:33:27 – 1:33:35] Adam: Three, end of June, not finalized yet, but hopefully taking a couple’s trip, my wife and I and another couple, to East Bearskin.
[1:33:36 – 1:33:37] Adam: Eric’s pumped.
[1:33:37 – 1:33:42] Adam: Four, mid-July, taking the scout troop to East Bearskin.
[1:33:42 – 1:33:44] Adam: It will be the first BWCA trip for many of them.
[1:33:44 – 1:33:45] Adam: Oh, yeah.
[1:33:46 – 1:33:46] Adam: End of July.
[1:33:47 – 1:33:48] Adam: I’m sorry.
[1:33:48 – 1:33:49] Adam: I stopped using the numbers.
[1:33:49 – 1:33:50] Adam: This is five.
[1:33:50 – 1:33:56] Adam: End of July, taking my two sons and a friend and his sons to South Kawishoway.
[1:33:57 – 1:34:21] Adam: six labor day weekend big family trip to moose river south taking my wife and sons my brother-in-law south and his sons yeah the crazy moose river south yeah is that what i’m thinking of yes that thing that’s that’s some wild stuff i need to know more it’ll be my dad’s first trip in seven years my dad tripped for 40 plus years with his brother and introduced me to canoe camping when i was 12.
[1:34:21 – 1:34:24] Adam: Because of health concerns, he has not been able to go the past few years.
[1:34:25 – 1:34:30] Adam: It has been my oldest son’s fervent wish to take a trip with Papa, and now the wish will be granted.
[1:34:31 – 1:34:31] Erik: That’s awesome.
[1:34:31 – 1:34:32] Adam: That’s really awesome.
[1:34:34 – 1:34:36] Adam: I think that might be my favorite trip I heard of in both of the episodes.
[1:34:37 – 1:34:40] Adam: There’s been some really good ones, and all the family-based ones.
[1:34:40 – 1:34:42] Adam: I’m super intrigued by that South Moose River stuff.
[1:34:43 – 1:34:47] Erik: I spend every day of my life, essentially, with my family at Clearwater.
[1:34:47 – 1:34:49] Erik: And so it’s different for me.
[1:34:49 – 1:34:54] Erik: I say, I couldn’t imagine going on a trip with my family, but I know most people aren’t like that.
[1:34:54 – 1:34:55] Adam: We should do a trip with Craig.
[1:34:57 – 1:34:57] Adam: Get Craig out.
[1:34:58 – 1:34:59] Erik: I mean, I used to do trips with him.
[1:35:00 – 1:35:00] Erik: He’d go.
[1:35:01 – 1:35:01] Erik: I think he would.
[1:35:02 – 1:35:05] Adam: Maybe he wants to come with Timber Freer with us.
[1:35:05 – 1:35:07] Adam: Does he have a pair of jean shorts, though?
[1:35:08 – 1:35:08] Adam: We could make him some.
[1:35:08 – 1:35:10] Erik: We could make him some Dukes.
[1:35:10 – 1:35:11] Erik: He’s definitely got some Zubas.
[1:35:11 – 1:35:13] Adam: He’s got some good legs.
[1:35:14 – 1:35:15] Adam: He’s got some good looking legs.
[1:35:16 – 1:35:16] Erik: Zubas?
[1:35:17 – 1:35:17] Erik: Oh, yeah.
[1:35:18 – 1:35:18] Adam: All right.
[1:35:18 – 1:35:20] Adam: Well, never mind on the shorts then.
[1:35:20 – 1:35:21] Adam: Zubas shorts.
[1:35:22 – 1:35:22] Adam: Dang.
[1:35:23 – 1:35:25] Adam: South Moose River with Papa.
[1:35:25 – 1:35:26] Erik: It’s a big trip.
[1:35:26 – 1:35:27] Erik: That sounds awesome.
[1:35:27 – 1:35:30] Adam: I really want to know what’s going on with that South Moose River.
[1:35:30 – 1:35:34] Adam: That might be moving up the list, as they say.
[1:35:34 – 1:35:39] Erik: We should just go in on some Ely slash Echo Trail property.
[1:35:39 – 1:35:40] Erik: There we go.
[1:35:40 – 1:35:41] Erik: We don’t have to worry about like.
[1:35:43 – 1:36:11] Adam: driving over there and just like having to put in right away and just have a little tiny base camp there we go last but not least number seven i promised my youngest son that i would take a trip with just him so i have to fit that in somewhere he wants a short trip so we’re going to do larch creek nice yes not sure when yet but i promised so i have to squeeze that you’ll make it happen just be careful for the the fire mud in the creek that’s a little capsize a canoe
[1:36:12 – 1:36:15] Erik: Yeah, it’ll capsize the canoe and could dump a youth.
[1:36:15 – 1:36:17] Adam: You don’t want the youth in the creek.
[1:36:17 – 1:36:17] Adam: No.
[1:36:17 – 1:36:23] Adam: Those beavers down there are a little nuts, but they’re friendly, ultimately.
[1:36:24 – 1:36:25] Adam: That’s a lot of trips.
[1:36:25 – 1:36:26] Adam: Yeah, I don’t know.
[1:36:26 – 1:36:27] Adam: Paddling partner.
[1:36:27 – 1:36:31] Adam: You got room for one more?
[1:36:33 – 1:36:37] Adam: Looking at the Big Lebowski’s trophy case over here.
[1:36:38 – 1:36:38] Adam: Time of the year.
[1:36:39 – 1:36:40] Adam: Times man of the year.
[1:36:41 – 1:36:41] Adam: Me.
[1:36:41 – 1:36:42] Adam: I’m doing seven trips.
[1:36:42 – 1:36:45] Adam: One with the youngest and one with Papa.
[1:36:45 – 1:36:55] Erik: The email that I got did also suggest that you were given a challenge to produce an accurate script.
[1:36:55 – 1:36:57] Erik: No, as many quotes in a minute as possible.
[1:36:59 – 1:37:03] Erik: And it’s also Damn That Valley, Not Family by U.S.
[1:37:03 – 1:37:03] Erik: Girls.
[1:37:04 – 1:37:05] Adam: Yeah, there we go.
[1:37:08 – 1:37:09] Adam: Which album is this album?
[1:37:09 – 1:37:10] Adam: Half Free.
[1:37:10 – 1:37:12] Erik: Oh, Half Free is the best for sure.
[1:37:12 – 1:37:12] Erik: What year?
[1:37:12 – 1:37:13] Erik: 2015.
[1:37:14 – 1:37:16] Adam: 2015 for Half Free?
[1:37:16 – 1:37:16] Adam: Yep.
[1:37:17 – 1:37:17] Adam: That’s sick.
[1:37:23 – 1:37:25] Adam: I like a poem Unlimited too.
[1:37:25 – 1:37:25] Adam: Yeah.
[1:37:25 – 1:37:33] Erik: I was a little disappointed in the longevity of the re-listenability of Heavy Light, her album that came out last year.
[1:37:34 – 1:37:39] Erik: I love Four American Dollars, but not much else really did it for me on that album.
[1:37:47 – 1:37:49] Adam: This is the kind of music you get to listen to when you’re doing seven trips.
[1:37:58 – 1:38:01] Erik: No, he’s a vampire.
[1:38:06 – 1:38:06] Erik: All right.
[1:38:06 – 1:38:08] Erik: Moving on.
[1:38:08 – 1:38:09] Adam: I like this new feature.
[1:38:09 – 1:38:12] Adam: Any song that comes to mind, we just play it.
[1:38:12 – 1:38:13] Adam: Musical interludes.
[1:38:14 – 1:38:15] Adam: What are you going to do, Spotify?
[1:38:15 – 1:38:16] Adam: What are you going to do?
[1:38:16 – 1:38:17] Adam: I’m going to actually shut you down.
[1:38:17 – 1:38:18] Adam: We’re talking over it.
[1:38:18 – 1:38:19] Adam: We’re making it our own.
[1:38:20 – 1:38:21] Adam: Our attorney is really mad.
[1:38:21 – 1:38:22] Adam: Oh, yeah.
[1:38:22 – 1:38:24] Adam: He’s working overtime for us this week.
[1:38:25 – 1:38:27] Erik: He’s currently writing up cease and desist letters.
[1:38:28 – 1:38:31] Adam: Thank you to our friends on Patreon for our legal defense fund.
[1:38:31 – 1:38:32] Adam: Yes.
[1:38:32 – 1:38:34] Adam: That’s what we use the Patreon fees for.
[1:38:34 – 1:38:38] Adam: Little do you know, we’re fighting multiple lawsuits in court right now.
[1:38:39 – 1:38:39] Adam: All for you.
[1:38:40 – 1:38:40] Adam: Yep.
[1:38:40 – 1:38:41] Erik: Three Dog Nights coming at us.
[1:38:42 – 1:38:43] Adam: You do not.
[1:38:43 – 1:38:45] Adam: We said wine is the loneliest number, not one.
[1:38:45 – 1:38:48] Erik: You do not want to mess with Three Dog Night.
[1:38:48 – 1:38:49] Adam: Yeah, they’re heavy hitters.
[1:38:49 – 1:38:50] Erik: Sade was nice.
[1:38:50 – 1:38:51] Erik: She didn’t mind.
[1:38:51 – 1:38:52] Adam: Yeah, she was cool.
[1:38:52 – 1:38:53] Erik: No, but Three Dog Night.
[1:38:53 – 1:38:54] Erik: We should have known better.
[1:38:55 – 1:38:55] Erik: Yeah.
[1:38:56 – 1:38:57] Erik: Muzo.
[1:38:59 – 1:39:00] Erik: I believe, first time.
[1:39:00 – 1:39:03] Adam: Oh, yeah.
[1:39:03 – 1:39:04] Adam: Definitely.
[1:39:04 – 1:39:05] Adam: Welcome to the show.
[1:39:05 – 1:39:07] Erik: Welcome to Tumble Home.
[1:39:08 – 1:39:11] Erik: Two trips for me and my wife locked in so far.
[1:39:12 – 1:39:20] Erik: First, to the soft underbelly of the BWCA via Sawbill for six days in late June.
[1:39:22 – 1:39:25] Erik: In mid-September, we’re doing a five-day trip through South Kawishui.
[1:39:26 – 1:39:26] Erik: I’m pumped.
[1:39:27 – 1:39:28] Erik: I really miss the park.
[1:39:29 – 1:39:29] Erik: Yeah.
[1:39:30 – 1:39:36] Adam: I love that the soft underbelly is becoming… A lot of people want to tickle, want a little belly rub.
[1:39:37 – 1:39:37] Erik: Yeah.
[1:39:38 – 1:39:42] Erik: My goal this year is to plan less and just do what feels right during the trip.
[1:39:42 – 1:39:48] Erik: If the weather is ideal and my shoulders feel strong, maybe we’ll do a 10-portage day.
[1:39:49 – 1:39:53] Erik: Or maybe take a layover day because the campsite is just too luxurious to leave.
[1:39:53 – 1:39:54] Erik: And the fish are biting.
[1:39:55 – 1:39:57] Erik: I’m aiming to just take whatever each day gives me.
[1:39:58 – 1:39:59] Erik: Thanks, gentlemen.
[1:39:59 – 1:40:02] Erik: Love the show and happy paddling in 2021.
[1:40:02 – 1:40:04] Erik: Happy paddling to you as well.
[1:40:04 – 1:40:09] Adam: You got to trust your intuition of your ethereal soul on the astral plane.
[1:40:10 – 1:40:11] Adam: Am I right?
[1:40:11 – 1:40:14] Erik: Aiming to just take whatever each day gives me.
[1:40:15 – 1:40:18] Erik: That’s just a generally good outlook on life, I’d say.
[1:40:21 – 1:40:23] Erik: Iowa fishing guy.
[1:40:29 – 1:40:30] Erik: I love that.
[1:40:30 – 1:40:31] Erik: Yeah, that’s right.
[1:40:31 – 1:40:32] Erik: That’s very nice.
[1:40:32 – 1:40:33] Erik: That’s a little crack back.
[1:40:33 – 1:40:35] Erik: Really working on your drops.
[1:40:36 – 1:40:38] Erik: Two trips for me this year, both from the Ely side.
[1:40:38 – 1:40:39] Erik: Boo!
[1:40:39 – 1:40:39] Erik: No.
[1:40:40 – 1:40:46] Erik: Trip one, June 15th, Mudrow to Crooked with a college buddy to slam walleye for five nights.
[1:40:46 – 1:40:48] Erik: You’ll slam them, that’s for sure.
[1:40:48 – 1:40:54] Erik: Trip two, July 8th, Little Indian Sioux North to Shell, Heritage, Lynx,
[1:40:57 – 1:40:57] Adam Pew Pew Pew: No, no.
[1:40:58 – 1:40:58] Adam Pew Pew Pew: Eric, Eric.
[1:40:58 – 1:40:59] Erik: That’s it.
[1:40:59 – 1:41:00] Erik: That’s it.
[1:41:00 – 1:41:00] Erik: That’s it.
[1:41:00 – 1:41:03] Erik: It’s that area with my wife for three nights of relaxation.
[1:41:04 – 1:41:12] Erik: Took her up there for the first time last year, two-night stay on Crocodile, outfitted through Clearwater, and she loved it.
[1:41:12 – 1:41:13] Erik: Darn tootin’.
[1:41:13 – 1:41:14] Erik: That’s good to hear.
[1:41:15 – 1:41:17] Erik: Still no gay bionic quit.
[1:41:17 – 1:41:17] Erik: We’re getting down there.
[1:41:17 – 1:41:19] Erik: I don’t think I’m going to get my under.
[1:41:20 – 1:41:23] Adam: Is a mention of how somebody hasn’t been to gay bionic quit count?
[1:41:23 – 1:41:24] Adam: I don’t think so.
[1:41:24 – 1:41:26] Adam: Well, if it’s in their plans, it definitely does.
[1:41:26 – 1:41:27] Adam: There you go.
[1:41:27 – 1:41:28] Adam: We’ve got a couple more.
[1:41:28 – 1:41:29] Erik: I’m going to read a short one here.
[1:41:29 – 1:41:33] Adam: We’re only still at one gay bionic quit for this episode.
[1:41:33 – 1:41:35] Adam: It’s not looking good for the bet.
[1:41:35 – 1:41:36] Erik: It’s not?
[1:41:36 – 1:41:38] Erik: Well, I mean, it’s looking good for me.
[1:41:38 – 1:41:40] Erik: We got frayed knot.
[1:41:40 – 1:41:43] Erik: What’s the temp threshold for wet footing?
[1:41:44 – 1:41:46] Adam: See, we were talking about this on the last episode.
[1:41:47 – 1:41:47] Adam: It’s liquid.
[1:41:47 – 1:41:48] Adam: One foot on, one foot off.
[1:41:48 – 1:41:49] Adam: Oh, yeah.
[1:41:49 – 1:41:50] Adam: I mean, cheap dancers in there.
[1:41:50 – 1:41:52] Adam: Eric’s reptilian, you know, so.
[1:41:53 – 1:41:55] Erik: Cheap dancer, of course, with the smart-ass answer.
[1:41:56 – 1:42:01] Erik: It’s hard to say for sure, but I would say it needs to be above 32 degrees in order to get your feet wet.
[1:42:03 – 1:42:20] Erik: truer words were ne’er spoke I’ll franzia both those comments throw a franzia down hard I mean either comments make sense but I think the temp threshold is really just up to you whatever you can handle
[1:42:21 – 1:42:21] Adam: I would say 80.
[1:42:22 – 1:42:28] Erik: You want to get those feet nice and toasty, Eric.
[1:42:28 – 1:42:29] Erik: I would never.
[1:42:29 – 1:42:30] Erik: I would never.
[1:42:30 – 1:42:31] Adam: Hot tubbing.
[1:42:31 – 1:42:37] Erik: I would actually be more inclined to put a boot on in 80 degree water than 35 degree.
[1:42:37 – 1:42:42] Adam: You don’t know what kind of piranhas and mollusks are going to be in there.
[1:42:42 – 1:42:44] Adam: Dirty toenail parasite.
[1:42:44 – 1:42:45] Adam: Mud snails.
[1:42:45 – 1:42:46] Adam: Yeah.
[1:42:48 – 1:42:49] Adam: You’re a little bit sauna.
[1:42:50 – 1:42:51] Adam: I’m a little more hot tub.
[1:42:51 – 1:42:53] Erik: You’re a little bit sauna.
[1:42:53 – 1:42:56] Adam: I’m a little bit hot tub.
[1:42:57 – 1:43:00] Adam: Going down catfishing on the river tonight.
[1:43:02 – 1:43:02] Adam: That was pretty good.
[1:43:03 – 1:43:03] Erik: Not bad.
[1:43:03 – 1:43:05] Erik: Sometimes we don’t have to pull up music.
[1:43:05 – 1:43:06] Adam: We just make our own.
[1:43:06 – 1:43:07] Adam: We’re just nailing it.
[1:43:07 – 1:43:09] Adam: Next up on the show, C531.
[1:43:09 – 1:43:10] Adam: Welcome to the show.
[1:43:10 – 1:43:12] Adam: Three trips planned this year.
[1:43:12 – 1:43:13] Adam: First one is end of May.
[1:43:13 – 1:43:16] Adam: Going in with a buddy on Bower Trout for three days.
[1:43:16 – 1:43:17] Adam: Going down catfishing.
[1:43:17 – 1:43:18] Adam: I’m sorry.
[1:43:18 – 1:43:19] Adam: I’m editorializing this.
[1:43:20 – 1:43:23] Adam: was going out to do a big loop with… Jesus.
[1:43:23 – 1:43:26] Adam: We’re going to reset this, Eric.
[1:43:26 – 1:43:28] Erik: Let me just reset it with this.
[1:43:29 – 1:43:30] Erik: Bow, bow.
[1:43:31 – 1:43:32] Adam: Three, two, one.
[1:43:34 – 1:43:35] Adam: Three trips planned for this year.
[1:43:35 – 1:43:39] Adam: First one is end of May, going in with a buddy on Bower Trout for three days.
[1:43:39 – 1:43:48] Adam: I was going to do a big loop up through Winchell and out Ram, but he’s had a health thing come up, so we’re taking it easy and just going to base camp and focus on fishing.
[1:43:49 – 1:43:54] Adam: Second trip is in August with our wives, going up on Brule, and we’ll just base camp and do day trips.
[1:43:59 – 1:44:05] Adam: Third trip is with a group of guys in September doing the border lakes in the Vento, putting in on Daniels.
[1:44:06 – 1:44:08] Adam: I’m excited about a lot of the new gear this year.
[1:44:08 – 1:44:10] Adam: All right, we’re getting some gear talk.
[1:44:10 – 1:44:16] Adam: Might have gone a little crazy, but I used up all my birthday credit card rewards and dipped into some overtime pay to get stuff.
[1:44:18 – 1:44:20] Adam: You got to get that good stuff.
[1:44:20 – 1:44:29] Adam: New CCS Pioneer Pack, underquilt for my hammock, bending branches paddle, and I was gifted a Grand Forks axe.
[1:44:30 – 1:44:31] Adam: Nailed it by my friend.
[1:44:31 – 1:44:32] Adam: Still can’t believe it.
[1:44:33 – 1:44:33] Adam: Way too kind.
[1:44:34 – 1:44:40] Adam: I used up all my Cabela’s credit card points on a Garmin Stryker, so I don’t have any excuses if I can’t get us on the fish.
[1:44:40 – 1:44:41] Adam: Super hyped for this year.
[1:44:42 – 1:44:45] Adam: I did three trips last year, and I felt like I had to keep up that pace again.
[1:44:46 – 1:44:47] Adam: You’re doing it.
[1:44:48 – 1:44:49] Adam: You get an extra box of wine up, folks.
[1:44:50 – 1:44:52] Erik: Once you pop, you just can’t stop.
[1:44:52 – 1:44:55] Adam: The gear talk was franzied enough, but the three trips.
[1:44:56 – 1:44:57] Adam: Tres franzios.
[1:44:59 – 1:45:00] Adam: And the Grand Brooks.
[1:45:02 – 1:45:03] Erik: Grand Forge Brooks.
[1:45:03 – 1:45:04] Adam: That just rolls off the tongue.
[1:45:05 – 1:45:07] Erik: Grand Forge Brooks, yeah.
[1:45:07 – 1:45:14] Erik: Yeah, the base camping trip that you’ve got where you were thinking about maybe doing out to Winchell out on Ram, if you can, get out to Swan.
[1:45:15 – 1:45:17] Erik: Swan is a base camping lake.
[1:45:17 – 1:45:18] Erik: Powertrout is not.
[1:45:19 – 1:45:22] Adam: True, but that’s that river section out of Marshall.
[1:45:22 – 1:45:23] Adam: It could be rough.
[1:45:23 – 1:45:25] Erik: But if they’re going in in May…
[1:45:26 – 1:45:26] Adam: Should be good.
[1:45:27 – 1:45:27] Adam: By all accounts.
[1:45:28 – 1:45:28] Adam: Should be fine.
[1:45:28 – 1:45:36] Erik: We are lower than we should be, but the water levels are still sufficient for most activities as of right now.
[1:45:38 – 1:45:41] Erik: Nash Kato.
[1:45:41 – 1:45:42] Erik: Two trips for me this year.
[1:45:43 – 1:45:45] Erik: Finally hitting the Vento unit.
[1:45:45 – 1:45:46] Erik: Congrats.
[1:45:46 – 1:45:47] Erik: Trip one.
[1:45:47 – 1:45:48] Erik: Day trips only.
[1:45:48 – 1:45:50] Erik: We have a week in a clear water cabin.
[1:45:51 – 1:45:52] Erik: Ah, with extended family.
[1:45:53 – 1:45:54] Adam: They got nice floors in those cabins.
[1:45:54 – 1:45:58] Erik: I am doing currently a bit of work on some floors.
[1:46:01 – 1:46:13] Erik: Hope to hit Johnson Falls, Rose Falls, trail run portions of the border route trail, catch our first lake trout, and restock the beer fridge and outfitting with some of St. Louis’s.
[1:46:13 – 1:46:15] Erik: I’m assuming STL.
[1:46:15 – 1:46:15] Erik: That’s St. Louis, right?
[1:46:18 – 1:46:18] Erik: Cahokia.
[1:46:19 – 1:46:21] Erik: Some of St. Louis’ finest.
[1:46:22 – 1:46:27] Erik: Trip two, five-day Granite River father-son trip on July 1st.
[1:46:28 – 1:46:29] Erik: Yes, that sounds like fun.
[1:46:29 – 1:46:35] Erik: Super stoked for the adventure, fish, and explore with just my 12-year-old.
[1:46:36 – 1:46:39] Erik: We usually do things as a full family, so this will be special.
[1:46:39 – 1:46:43] Erik: We’re geeking out on meal plans, Coghlan products, and podcast memes.
[1:46:44 – 1:46:51] Erik: As much as we’re excited for the wilderness, the 12-hour drive from here means that part of the adventure is the road trip that goes with it.
[1:46:52 – 1:46:56] Erik: Getting a motor tow back from Sag Falls, another first.
[1:46:57 – 1:46:58] Erik: Yeah, there’s something about the tow that, like,
[1:47:01 – 1:47:03] Erik: Say what you will about toes.
[1:47:03 – 1:47:10] Erik: Could have a full episode on like toes, where you can get them, what it means for a trip.
[1:47:10 – 1:47:12] Erik: Is it like a lazy thing?
[1:47:12 – 1:47:16] Erik: Like I’m all for toes, I think in the right circumstances.
[1:47:17 – 1:47:17] Erik: I’m not opposed to them.
[1:47:17 – 1:47:18] Adam: I also have four toes.
[1:47:19 – 1:47:20] Erik: But it totally…
[1:47:20 – 1:47:22] Erik: I’m in the four-toe club.
[1:47:22 – 1:47:25] Adam: Yeah, let’s change the branding on this thing.
[1:47:25 – 1:47:26] Adam: It’s not the dead-toe club.
[1:47:26 – 1:47:27] Adam: It’s the four-toe club.
[1:47:27 – 1:47:28] Adam: The four-toe club.
[1:47:29 – 1:47:30] Adam: But it does create a…
[1:47:30 – 1:47:31] Adam: I’m four-toes.
[1:47:32 – 1:47:38] Erik: There’s something about it that, like, especially for what it sounds like, a first-time trip for a 12-year-old,
[1:47:39 – 1:47:45] Erik: Like, that whole trip is going to be super memorable, and I guarantee that toe is going to be, like, a big part of the memory.
[1:47:45 – 1:47:46] Adam: It feels elite.
[1:47:46 – 1:47:46] Erik: Yeah.
[1:47:47 – 1:47:47] Adam: Being on a toe.
[1:47:47 – 1:47:53] Erik: Getting that toe, like, especially at the end of a trip, just feels like, I don’t know, something special about it.
[1:47:53 – 1:47:55] Adam: Yeah, you earn it at the end of the trip, for sure.
[1:47:55 – 1:47:58] Adam: But you do have the little bit of, like, got to be there in time for it.
[1:47:59 – 1:47:59] Adam: Yeah.
[1:47:59 – 1:48:02] Adam: Which usually, almost ever, it’s almost never an issue, but.
[1:48:03 – 1:48:03] Adam: Yeah.
[1:48:03 – 1:48:07] Adam: That’s the only thing I don’t like about the toe at the end, is, like, you got to be there.
[1:48:07 – 1:48:08] Erik: The timing.
[1:48:08 – 1:48:08] Erik: Yeah.
[1:48:08 – 1:48:08] Erik: Yeah.
[1:48:08 – 1:48:09] Adam: Make sure you’re there.
[1:48:09 – 1:48:10] Adam: Right.
[1:48:10 – 1:48:10] Adam: Yeah.
[1:48:10 – 1:48:13] Adam: It does feel elite, like getting like motored out.
[1:48:14 – 1:48:18] Erik: Well, Nash Cato, looking forward to having you at Clearwater.
[1:48:18 – 1:48:34] Erik: We will point you in the right direction for a lot of the parts of the Gunflint Trail that you were looking to enjoy, including a couple of falls, some border route trail activities, and I’d even be happy to talk about that Granite River trip with you as well.
[1:48:35 – 1:48:36] Erik: That’s a great run.
[1:48:37 – 1:48:38] Erik: Last comment…
[1:48:40 – 1:48:42] Erik: I’m just going to go ahead and read it here.
[1:48:43 – 1:48:44] Erik: This is from Ron Shara.
[1:48:44 – 1:48:45] Erik: Fact facts.
[1:48:47 – 1:48:49] Adam: Ron Shara’s on the subreddit now.
[1:48:50 – 1:48:50] Erik: Ron Shara fact facts.
[1:48:51 – 1:48:55] Erik: Hey, are there bear barrels still required in the Seagull Lake area?
[1:48:55 – 1:48:59] Erik: They were required at the end of the season last year, but I haven’t seen anything for this year.
[1:48:59 – 1:49:06] Erik: As far as I know, no, they’re not currently required, but I have doubled down on…
[1:49:08 – 1:49:11] Erik: bear barrels and bear barrel harnesses slash packs.
[1:49:12 – 1:49:12] Erik: Yeah.
[1:49:12 – 1:49:18] Erik: Because of the freakish increase in calls that I’m getting on.
[1:49:19 – 1:49:20] Erik: Hey, you get some bear barrels?
[1:49:20 – 1:49:23] Adam: I need to get one from, I need to write one from you in August for sure.
[1:49:23 – 1:49:26] Adam: Like I’ve got like available in August still.
[1:49:27 – 1:49:28] Erik: Well, I’ve got, I have 10.
[1:49:28 – 1:49:28] Erik: Yeah.
[1:49:28 – 1:49:30] Adam: Well, I need pencil me in for one.
[1:49:30 – 1:49:36] Erik: And I’m like, I might 10 of the 60 liter ones and six of the smaller ones.
[1:49:37 – 1:49:38] Adam: Is 60 the biggest they go?
[1:49:38 – 1:49:38] UNKNOWN: Yeah.
[1:49:40 – 1:49:41] Erik: I don’t know if you’d want to go much bigger.
[1:49:42 – 1:49:42] Adam: I do.
[1:49:43 – 1:49:45] Erik: You could get one of those full 50-gallon.
[1:49:45 – 1:49:47] Adam: I’m doing a seagull only.
[1:49:47 – 1:49:48] Adam: I need a 100-liter.
[1:49:49 – 1:49:50] Adam: 100-liter.
[1:49:50 – 1:49:50] Adam: 100.
[1:49:51 – 1:49:53] Adam: It comes with its own raft.
[1:49:54 – 1:49:57] Erik: Just get one of those massive Yeti coolers and a couple of ratchet straps.
[1:49:57 – 1:50:00] Adam: Yeah, just drag it behind the boat.
[1:50:00 – 1:50:00] Adam: Yeah.
[1:50:00 – 1:50:01] Adam: It’s fine.
[1:50:01 – 1:50:01] Adam: Yeah.
[1:50:02 – 1:50:17] Erik: So, no, not as far as I know, there are no current bear restrictions, but everybody that I’m talking to, I’m essentially saying the days of hanging food are kind of equivalent to the days of aluminum canoes.
[1:50:18 – 1:50:19] Erik: They’re numbered.
[1:50:19 – 1:50:21] Adam: Days of sniffing the dirt are over.
[1:50:21 – 1:50:22] Erik: Yeah.
[1:50:23 – 1:50:23] Erik: Oh, man.
[1:50:24 – 1:50:36] Erik: For whatever reason, I have been watching a lot of home-made tornado videos slash storm chaser videos.
[1:50:36 – 1:50:37] Adam: Yeah.
[1:50:38 – 1:50:39] Adam: Drones, man.
[1:50:39 – 1:50:40] Erik: Tornadoes are crazy.
[1:50:41 – 1:50:43] Erik: Tornadoes are crazy.
[1:50:43 – 1:50:51] Erik: There’s a couple of videos out there that I’ve seen like 10 times because I just like, I cannot believe that the person did not stop filming.
[1:50:51 – 1:50:52] Adam: You got to send me those links.
[1:50:52 – 1:50:56] Erik: Well, we’ll watch one as soon as we stop recording.
[1:50:56 – 1:50:58] Adam: All right, this is the end of the episode.
[1:50:58 – 1:50:59] Adam: We got to watch some Twister videos.
[1:51:00 – 1:51:00] Adam: Yeah.
[1:51:00 – 1:51:02] Adam: Anybody else in the subreddit?
[1:51:03 – 1:51:03] Adam: Any late arrivals?
[1:51:05 – 1:51:05] Adam: Closing her out.
[1:51:06 – 1:51:12] Erik: No, the one that came in there was just, yeah, this one day.
[1:51:12 – 1:51:15] Erik: I think there’s been a couple of just one-day-agos.
[1:51:15 – 1:51:21] Adam: Tell you what, though, that was a solid one mention of Gibby on a quick in the second half.
[1:51:22 – 1:51:24] Adam: So you won the over-under bet there on that one.
[1:51:24 – 1:51:25] Adam: Yeah.
[1:51:25 – 1:51:26] Adam: No problemo.
[1:51:27 – 1:51:27] Adam: That’s all right.
[1:51:27 – 1:51:31] Adam: There’s a couple of close ones where I thought maybe, just maybe, they’re going to Lynx.
[1:51:33 – 1:51:39] Adam: But no, that’s how I figured it would go.
[1:51:39 – 1:51:40] Adam: One, two, or three.
[1:51:41 – 1:51:41] Adam: Most he could get.
[1:51:41 – 1:51:43] Adam: Oh, he’s pulling up videos already.
[1:51:43 – 1:51:44] Adam: He’s got Twister videos.
[1:51:44 – 1:51:45] Erik: I got it coming up.
[1:51:45 – 1:51:50] Erik: If you’re wondering what we’re going to watch as soon as we stop the podcast here.
[1:51:51 – 1:51:59] Erik: Uh, just search the, uh, uh, Clarence Clem Schultz tornado video.
[1:51:59 – 1:52:02] Erik: It’s one of the scariest videos I’ve ever seen.
[1:52:03 – 1:52:04] Adam: All right.
[1:52:04 – 1:52:09] Adam: Well, we’re going to hit the chip tunes, uh, Janet Jackson, the velvet rope.
[1:52:09 – 1:52:16] Adam: I mean, uh, the, the songwriting, the, the performance, the, uh,
[1:52:17 – 1:52:20] Adam: the appreciation of multiple genres of music.
[1:52:20 – 1:52:27] Adam: It is a true classic of American music, and I highly recommend you check it out.
[1:52:27 – 1:52:30] Adam: Thank you for being here on Tumble Home.
[1:52:30 – 1:52:39] Adam: Good luck to all of your trips, and I look forward to seeing some pictures and hearing some more stories from how these all went at the end of the season.
[1:52:41 – 1:52:42] Adam: We’ll meet back again then.
[1:52:43 – 1:52:44] Adam: But thank you for…
[1:52:44 – 1:52:50] Adam: Taking the time to write your correspondence to us and share your stories.
[1:52:51 – 1:52:54] Adam: And that’s what makes the whole show go around.
[1:52:54 – 1:52:54] Erik: Yeah.
[1:52:54 – 1:52:58] Erik: We’re looking forward to the obvious fall follow up to these.
[1:52:58 – 1:52:59] Erik: But in the meantime.
[1:52:59 – 1:52:59] Erik: Yeah.
[1:53:00 – 1:53:22] Erik: share your we’ve had just in the last two weeks we’ve had some pictures and videos of people who have been on the water um that’s i mean i think that’s what keeps a lot of people going over the course of the year is seeing the you know living vicariously through other people’s trips so yeah share any photos or videos that you have of your trips or even just a doesn’t have to be a full-blown like
[1:53:23 – 1:53:51] Erik: trip report or anything but just any little details but we’ll definitely follow up this fall and yeah we will we’ll let you know how our trip goes here in a little under a month very exciting times we’ve gotten through the dark winter and uh it’s time to get back out there blow off the dust get those paddling muscles in shape and uh yeah time for time for some paddling
[1:53:53 – 1:53:54] Adam: All right.
[1:53:54 – 1:53:55] Adam: Until next week on the show.
[1:53:56 – 1:54:00] Adam: Remember, folks, life is precious and every day is a miracle.
[1:54:00 – 1:54:03] Adam: And if a twister is coming your way, seek shelter.
[1:54:03 – 1:54:07] Erik: Especially if it looks like it’s just coming straight at you and not moving.
[1:54:07 – 1:54:08] Erik: That’s always a bad sign.
[1:54:10 – 1:54:11] Adam: That’s no good.
[1:54:11 – 1:54:14] Erik: It’s not worth the YouTube hits on the video.
[1:54:14 – 1:54:15] Erik: Take shelter.
[1:54:15 – 1:54:16] Erik: And get your vaccination.
[1:54:17 – 1:54:18] Adam: Yeah, come on.
[1:54:18 – 1:54:19] Adam: Good night.
[1:54:23 – 1:54:26] Adam: Together Again is an undisputed masterpiece.
[1:54:27 – 1:54:30] Adam: It is hard to choose a favorite among so many amazing tracks.
[1:54:31 – 1:54:38] Adam: Its universal message crosses all boundaries, instills one with the hope that it is not too late to better ourselves.
[1:56:48 – 1:56:53] Adam: One could also argue, Eric, that 1997’s Velvet Rope was the pinnacle of Janet Jackson’s career.
[1:56:53 – 1:56:58] Adam: The genre-bending album is one of the defining LPs of the 1990s, wouldn’t you agree?
[1:56:59 – 1:57:01] Erik: Yeah, I guess I would, Patrick Bateman.
[1:57:01 – 1:57:03] Adam: Both commercially and artistically.
