[0:00:01 – 0:00:10] ErikTSN: Bald Eagle Lake is located within the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness within the Superior National Forest and is a non-motorized lake.
[0:00:11 – 0:00:13] ErikTSN: It is approximately 15 miles southeast of Ely.
[0:00:14 – 0:00:21] ErikTSN: It is a 1,243-acre lake with a maximum depth of 36 feet of bog-stained water.
[0:00:22 – 0:00:29] ErikTSN: There are four accesses, two portages, one water route, and a combination of both depending on water levels.
[0:00:30 – 0:00:37] ErikTSN: The access to Gabbro Lake on the northeast corner can be navigated going downstream if water levels are high enough.
[0:00:38 – 0:00:42] ErikTSN: Otherwise, a small portage avoids the shallow rapids.
[0:00:42 – 0:00:52] ErikTSN: A 186-rod portage off the northernmost bay connects to Turtle Lake, and a 190-rod portage on the east shore connects to a small stream that leads to Gull Lake.
[0:00:53 – 0:00:59] ErikTSN: The water connection to the south side of Bald Eagle connects to both the Isabella and Snake Rivers.
[0:01:00 – 0:01:11] ErikTSN: BWCA permits are required to visit Bald Eagle through an official entry point, and there are 12 U.S. Forest Service-maintained campsites on this lake.

[0:31:24 – 0:31:28] Adam: When visiting 10 years later, I realized that the campsite itself was nothing special.
[0:31:29 – 0:31:30] Adam: It was who I was with.
[0:31:31 – 0:31:35] Adam: I adjusted my rating from 4 stars to 3 stars, though it could be 2.
[0:31:36 – 0:31:39] Adam: The most dominant feature of this site is the sand beach.
[0:31:39 – 0:31:43] Adam: When we visited it, it was high water, and there was still a lot of beach to play on.
[0:31:44 – 0:31:46] Adam: In low water, there would be even more sand in front of the site.
[0:31:47 – 0:31:52] Adam: The site is secluded and doesn’t see nearly as much traffic as the other campsites on the lake.
[0:31:53 – 0:31:58] Adam: The kitchen and tent pad area are completely surrounded by trees and are very well protected.
[0:31:59 – 0:32:02] Adam: However, this also means there isn’t much of a view from the kitchen.
[0:32:02 – 0:32:04] Adam: There are lots of places to put tents in the clearing.
[0:32:05 – 0:32:07] Adam: The number you can fit depends on the size of the tents.

[0:32:09 – 0:32:16] Adam: The bay the site sits in is shallow, but there’s good fishing around to the small island to the east.
